Facebook Force close - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I have a Sprint HTC Evo
ANDROID Version: 2.3.3
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.38.3- Savaged-Zen 2.0.0- cfs-havs-Gb
MOD VERSION: CYANOGEN MOD 7 # 39
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN your Facebook suddenly force to closes ?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

Its means there was a failure in the app (any app, in this case: Facebook) & to avoid problems/lock ups, its set to force close the application.
Facebook has just recently updated the app so hopefully it is fixed now.

If it keeps happening try uninstalling and reinstalling or dl ROM Manager (if you don't already have it), open it and click fix permissions.
edit: welcome to XDA

The app has always been plagued with problems. Zuckerberg really needs to shell out some cash to get a quality app going, seeing as Android is becoming the most used mobile OS. Though after all the spats they've had with Google, I'm sure it's not a priority for them.
EDIT: Seems to be working fine for me on CM7 Final, though if I go to the main menu and hit "Profile" I get a force-close.

Yeah, I feel like every other update borks it. It was working fine for me on n41 though, maybe try updating to 41?

[Q] Facebook wont install

Like title says, facebook as an update from market would not install. I removed existing fb and install clean, no dice. A copy of the olderversion also would not install. SOmething about not signed came up. Any ideas?
Love the Overclocked "nonsense" CM7
I wiped dalvik fixed permissions now all is good.... except. Now it just force closes as soon as i try to open it

The latest facebook version doesn't work for me either. I have learned to back-up my facebook app before updating it.
I tried the backup and wouldn't install. I'm running the newest one finally. After a bunch of cache wipes and fix permissions I got it working. Even the backup did not want to cooperate.

Yep the latest FB update has issues. It installed fine for me on my G2 with CM7 nightly 41, but it force closes when tapping Profile, Friends, or Messages from the main screen. I didn't back up the previous version so I'm stuck with it until they release an update. Unless someone is so kind as to post an apk of the previous version.
It runs fine on my GF's Fascinate (running 2.1) though.
I've always found that the quality of the Android FB app mirrors the relationship between FB and Google.

It's not a ROM issue, it's an app issue. Every major update FB does breaks all sorts of **** (so much for internal testing); I always read user comments first before updating their app and wait until they clear up the issues.

If you've got 1.5.2 backed up by Titanium Backup then go back to that and it works fine until Facebook fix it.

Having the same issues running CM 6.1. Every time I have updated, I always end up removing updates and going back to Version 1.4.1. It has been the least buggy version for me...
Lol, damn, i wish I would have read the reviews!
Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks
Does facebook release a beta before sending out updates?

the Market actually has an option to remove the most recent update, so you can just run that

Can anyone please upload the 1.5.2 version? My TB already backed up the 1.5.3 and I only see "uninstall" on the market, no 'uninstall updates' option.
Swtiched to Seesmic
I also couldn't go back, and got tired (very quickly) so I am now trying Seesmic for facebook config only. It seems to work okay if you get tried of waiting.

[Q] Facebook app crashing in CM7

Rooted Incredible running CMW 3.0.0.8 and CM7 rom and I am having a problem with the facebook app.
This is after a factory reset & clearing of the caches and installed this app from the market...didn't restore it.
Opening up facebook works fine & navigation is good. I've tested everything else, but when i try to go to messages, the app crashes. I get the message "Sorry! The application Facebook (process com.facebook.katana) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." & gives me the option to Force Close or Report.
Any advice would be helpful.
Might be just an issue with the app as mine has started doing something similar after I got the latest version.

I used Titanium to roll back to 1.5.1, latest 1.5.3.
I'm using CM7 Final. It appears to be an issue with the new update.
Same issue and I believe the new FB update is causing it, I dont recall the error before.
The question I have now is where can I download 1.5.1 and use that until FB fixes the issue? Thanks for all the info. Makes me feel better its not something I borked. Man do I love cm7

Well the feedback in the market tells me that everybody is having FC problems with it since the new update, not just us dinc/CM7 users.

The best part? Facebook hasn't even addressed the issue publicly. The SECOND best part is Facebook hired Erick Tseng, a lead Android exec, to work on their mobile front. Fist full of phail.

Thanks wolf ...it works like charm
Using Skyraider 3.5. The Facebook v1.5.3 works perfectly.
I was having issues with the latest update of the Facebook app. The worst part was that it seemed to bring down a bunch of other services with it, like Google Maps, Skyfire, Beautiful Widgets, and sometimes even LuancherPro.
I uninstalled the app and now FB through a Skyfire bookmark. No issues.

AdFree too old

Hello,
I have AdFree installed on my EVO 4G. When I run it get error message:
"Out of Date
This copy of AdFree is too old,
please update to a newer version."
I tried this:
1- wiped data with titanium, uninstalled, rebooted, installed from Market again, ... not working, same error
2- uninstalled, went recovery (ra 2.3), wiped cache & dalvik, installed from market, same error.
I found this issue in other forums but not for EVO 4G.
Update:
I sent an email to AdFree developers 5 min ago (06-27-11, 11:28am).
Update:
AddFree developers released an update solving problem today.
This is in the wrong section, but ad free still works for me.

This worked for me for right now. Install it from the market but don't open it. Go to your phone settings and set your date back one year to 2010. Go and open adfree and let it do its thing. After its done go back and set your current date and it will start blocking ads. Hit my thanks if this helps.

Yes, this worked to get latest host list, but if you open AdFree having date settings to automatic then you get the too old error, so it is something to fix by AdFree developers.

Yes, google + definitely doesn't get along with the Note 8 on 4.2.2. You could always try wiping dalvik cache and cache in recovery and see if that helps. If its a specific app, go into app manager and clear its data and cache and that may help as well.
so far everything is working I had to reinstall a few apps but besides that its fine lets see what happens

Same issue here. I reinstalled skype. It seems solid for the time being. Has anybody tried cyanogen? Did it fix the problem?
