[Q] HTC Evo - can't download MMS - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know where the APN file is located? I mean the exact folder structure?
I have looked for it and can not find it. I am looking for it because I can not receive MMS or send MMS - it just acts like it is sending forever or downloading forever.
I have looked EVERYWHERE on these forums for the answer and I must be an idiot - because I can't find any info to help.
Here is what I am currently running....
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.17-gee557fdhtc-kernelatand18-2 #15
Build Number: Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1 by flipz
Software Number: 3.70.651.1
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.40_003
PRL Version: 60677
I really like the phone is working with this ROM - and I really don't want to reset it back to the factory settings....
Any info will be greatly appreciated!

try the free program "APN backup and restore"
You can dump your APNs to an xml file, check them out and modify them if necessary, and then reload them back into the phone easily

theres probly something wrong with the rom..or kernel havin the same issue with mikgin but hes fixin it also your pri maybe update it to at least 1.77? thoughts..never used fresh havent seen to many ppl that like it

HTC Evo 4G only receives MMS messages after i first restart it. So every time i get a new MMS i have to restart the phone. I just rooted it and flashed the Energy room. any suggestions, thanks

Well, what ROM are you running and what msg app? Have you taken the simple way out and tried using GO SMS? I'm not a big fan of this app but mostly if the ROMs local msg isn't receiving MMS, this will...

I used GO SMS but its the ROM itself. I checked another website and alot of people were complaining about it. Its the Energy ROM

Ahhh....OK OK....unfortunately I can confirm that I ran Energy as well about a month ago and I too had mms issues then. But that is not a reflection on the current version. Have you tried pulling a msg.apk out of another sense based rom? Try pulling it from Nitrous, I know that mms works on that.

Can't send or receive MMS on Sprint! Help!
I need some help here folks. So I had a lapse in thinking one day and "nearly" acceptance an OTA. I accidently clicked accept and immediately stopped it (shut off my phone etc). Well apparently it downloaded far enough to where the next time I reset my phone it installed it automatically. It didn't even tell me it was installing it just told me my phone had been updated. Now I need help. First here is the info on my phone...
Sprint Evo 4G running Ginger Bread (2.3.5), Kernel - 2.6.35.10-g4b48446. My phone is rooted, but I still have the stock ROM.
So my phone updated the software to the newest version 4.67.651.3. I know at the beginning of this thread there is an alert message about not downloading it (as with any OTA's on a rooted phone), but it did and now I'm here.
So my problem is that now I cannot send or receive MMS. It sits there acting like it's trying to send without ever sending it. Is it possible to revert back to an older software version (assuming this is what broke the MMS in the first place)? Help from any of you would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have the same problem running miui

Cyanogen - 3G Internet Down?

Hi guys.
I had my first Evo stolen a few days ago and just got the replacement yesterday. I was able to root using Simpleroot, and setup recovery. In order to get the phone operational on Sprint, I had to type in ##494711# and enter my phone number and change another setting in that same menu. The internet (3g) works on a "stock" rom I downloaded, however it does not work on Cyanogen 7/22 build.
Wifi and everything else runs perfect, no problems besides this. Anyone know a way to fix this? I tried to search the thread but couldn't find anything.
Try re flashing the ROM i got the same rom and my 3G works perfect make sure you flash the new radio and not just the rom you need the rom plus frf91
2.05.00.06.10 is the radio you need. Your software should be 1.47.651.1 also.

[Q] HELP !!!~Mobile Network "Turning On"~

I would firstly like to thank everyone here at these Forums ever since my first HTC Touch that I flashed over to MetroPCS several years back these forums have proven of great help... I am once again stumped and need some help.
I have an EVO with Froyo 2.2 , Fresh Evo 3.3.0.1 Rom & Radio Baseband 2.15.00.09.01 and PRI 1.77 I rooted and flashed it over to MetroPCS everything works, talk, text even wifi .... The only problem is the mobile network does not turn on it says - Mobile Network "Turning On" and appears grayed out. I have double checked all my settings both in CDMA Workshop and QPST, and haved tried every trick I have seen in every forum.. I already called MetroPCS and made sure its not a issue with my data plan or my account.... Can somebody please help me fix this issue I don't know what else to do... ???
did you ever find a fix for this? because I'm having the same problem now. I haven't made any changes to the phone since the last time it was working, which was earlier today. Now it says 'turning on' under mobile network and it's grayed out. already tried rebooting the phone - didn't help.
Running the latest rom from htc, rooted using unrevoked - i did that a few days ago.
No data/network connection here and the Sprint site is down too. WTF?

ah ok - i didn't check the sprint site. Sounds like there was nothing wrong with my phone then, must have been something with sprints network.
My 3g connection was backup this morning, again without me making any changes on the phone. So i guess it was some temporary glitch with sprint.
Mobile Internet stuck on "Turning on" on my Evo
Even I have same issue after undating my rooted EVO (with unrevoked) stock rom (OTA 4.0) with 2.15.00.09.01 Base BAND to 3.70.651.1 (OTA 7-ROOTED) with 2.15.00.11.19 Base Band. After this the phone was running OK for 3-4 days but then suddenly the Mobile Network "Turning On" issue cropped up . Then I installed EViO 2.0 series latest rom and for 2 days the problem disappeared. However, it again appeared making me flash MikFroYo 4.5 rom. But to no avail. The Mobile Network is not connecting at all. It is just showing "Turning On" when enabled eiher throught settings tab or from power button. But it can only be closed by power button. The details of my software is as below:
Android Version : 2.2
Base Band Version : 2.15.00.11.19
kernel version : 2.6.32.17-gee557fd [email protected] #15
build number : MikFroYo v4.5
Software number : 3.70.651.1
Browser version : webkit 3.1
PRI version : 1.90_003
Prl Version : 00001
Hardware version : 0004
Hboot - 0.97.0000
Please tell me how to make mobile network (internet) operational again as Iam in India with a measly 1x speed and I would like to use it.
Gentlemen kindly help
Regards,
Nitin
I have since figured it out it was related to some QPST settings that had red lines in it and even though i clicked in the text box and it appeared to be taking all the settings i was programming it required for me to click some other button the ctrl i believe in order to get rid of the line and be able to program the settings in correctly. I have since gotten my phone to work perfectly. In my experience any issue you have after putting a new ROM is just because it wasn't properly wiped search these forums their is an all in one wipe or manually use the recovery to wipe everything before putting a new ROM on. Also if any pay attention to the recommended baseband, radio and or kernel for each ROM. Also read each ROM details as some have specific purposes like MetroDroid ROM. I am currently using Myn's Warm Z Two Point Two ROM on my EVO on METRO PCS and it runs better & faster than any other ROM I have flashed so far not to mention the interface is sleek and clean.
Well at least we were able to come out in the green and learned a lesson along the way.

[Q] Profile and PRL update problems!

When I try to update my profile or PRL I continually get an error message : Profile update could not be completed. Please try again later. If the problem persists , you may need to contact Customer service. Error code:1012.
I am running OmegaEVO v.1.1 with stock HTC kernel the rom comes with. Any ideas???
I've got the same problem! And also no answer...
edit#2: I actually have the current prl 60671
Which do you have?
Same problem. It happened after I restored a nandroid backup onto a replacement phone. hard resetting fixes the problem but I refuse to reinstall and reconfigure all of my apps just to get this working.
There has to be a file somewhere that we can delete to get this working again.
Mine is 60671 too, but when I used to hit update for either prl or profile it would at least tell me it was up to date or something. Now I just get the error.
If your **** is rooted, you dont ever update the prl.. its bad news
The Sprint lovers Rom thread has a link to the updated wimax and prl's

@thlinx Are you sure you are not getting the PRL confused with something else?

I''m having the same problem...I have the latest PRl though...but when I try to update my profile, it just stays stuck on "The network is preparing your services..." and doesn't do anything from that point on.
Same here. Restoring did nothing.

i'm on the same boat as you. anybody knows how to fix this?
hoping for a fix. i have the exact same error number. =//
its a recent problem.
I am getting the same problem. I am fully rooted running CM6.1 so I flashed one of the Stock rooted Froyo ROMs. PRL updated no problem to 60671. When I tried to update my PRI to 1.40 I have continually gotten this error and I have no data connection. I am going to try flashing the Sprint Lovers package and see what happens.
*** UPDATE ***
Hallelujah! I flashed the Sprint Lovers complete package and it looks like I'm back in business. PRI is 1.77_003 PRL is 60671. I have a network connection again and it looks like everything is working.
Now to get CM6.1 back and life will be good.
Flashed with new mikfroyo rom & kernel it comes with, still get same error when I hit the update buttons for prl and profile. Also tried the wimax etc update from Sprint lovers, but no fix.
same here with the newest steelH rom. i nadroided back to stock and it worked? any idea what the issue is and how to fix this? i also did a data profile restore to no avail.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I actually unrooted my EVO and I still get the error. After 8 different calls to Sprint they still can't get my 3G data working or my phone to complete a profile update or handsfree activation.

Evo flashed gone wrong.

hey everyone i'm new to android and the htc evo. heres my story i got it flashed to metro (talk and text only.) then attempted to get it flashed for mms/internet. i have brought it to like 9 different dealers who flash phones and they say its impossible for my phone to be flashed with a new rom because of some kind of error. now i just noticed they down graded my phone to 2.1 from 2.2 and nothing works no wifi not camera just talk and text and the 3g icon is showing and never did before. i'm really confused have no idea whats going on and i really need help.
also i factory reset my phone and now my ninja root icon is missing.
other info:
firmware: 2.1-update1
baseband: 1.36.00.04.02
anything else you need just ask.
at this point i just want to be back on 2.2 with talk and text and wifi and my camera working...

[Q] Desire HD BIG problems since update

Anyone help me with some ideas on this?
Last week I received the OTA update to 2.3.3 via Virgin and have had nothing but problems since. Firstly I started experiencing problems with WiFi dropping out more often than it did on 2.2. After it drops out if I go to settings and refresh the network list I can see my AP and reconnect immediately, but shortly after it will drop out again. Then the mobile internet stopped working intermittently. When I try to view a page I get a "forbidden" message, but on WiFi I have no problem accessing pages. Then last night (a week after the update) the biggest problem developed. I am unable to send text messages. I can select a recipient, enter the message text but pressing the send button does nothing. I don't even get a failure message, it just stays on the same screen and no matter how many times I press send nothing happens. If I then leave the message app it saves the message as a draft as it was never sent. Receiving messages works ok, but I cannot reply. What do I need to do to go back to 2.2? I'm at my wits end with it and the battery life has also suffered dramatically since the update. Thanks - Matt.
Hi,
I'd frist try to reset the settings to factory defaults. If that doesn't seem to work for you, I'd say it's a matter of warranty - so go to the store and have the phone changed.
Alternatively, you could try to root the phone (VOIDS WARRANTY!) and install a custom kernel (supplied with the plethora of custom ROMS on this forum) - together with the ROM and see how that goes.
Know anyone else with the same phone, same update, same carrier?
Definetily go ROOT....trust me ...once you root ,....you nver go back
yes
rooting may void guaranty.... but you can revert it to original state....i did it when i had to send it to service
I recommend with all y hear ANDROID REVOLUTION by mike1986, IMHO the best CUSTOM rom AND FAR MUCH BETTER THAN ORIGINAL GINFERBREAD ;D

I think he can't. If he has installed the update last week, it is possible, that he has at least build number 2.37 or newer.
Sorry, didn't notice these replies never got a notification email.
Version I'm on now is 2.3.3. Text sending issue now seems to have gone away (for now). Thought about rooting before but not very knowledgable and it's a bit daunting!

Not necessary - I've also updated to 2.3.3 (FOTA direct from HTC - unbranded phone) & I have build 2.36

Basically - even though you have Android 2.3.3 - there are different 'build numbers'
Currently, those with build 2.36 should be able to downgrade > root > upgrade.
Those with build 2.37 currently cannot downgrade
If you're not sure what build number you are - press:-
menu > settings > About Phone > Software information
Build number is 2.36.351.16 so that means I'm good to go?
Yes, you can root this version of 2.3.3 (if you want to use custom roms).
