Hi guys,
I`ve been using an HTC Desire the last couple of weeks and to avoid overloading my dataplan when I am at home I use my WiFi. It worke just fine `till today , when the phone connects as always but it cannot load any Internet pages or open any apps that use the Internet. If I switch to 3G it works just fine, when I go back to Wifi it stops working again.
The phone shows up on the DHCP Lease List in the Router Admin page. I can ping with no loss of data. I`m clueless to what might have happened.
Please help.
Thank you
Try changing channels on your router.

it worked just fine. THANKS A LOT. although i don`t really get why it worked till today. thanks again.
Not a problem. Just remember to help others when you can.
I'm having the same issue, WiFi connects fine but there's no data. Tried it all, different radios, changing WiFi channels on my router, different ROMs, etc. but nothing worked. Meanwhile an old Nokia E71 works like a charm with the same router... what can this be?
In your Wifi Advanced settings, you can select number of channels in Regulatory Domain. Also, check your WiFi sleep policy, and set it to Never.
Might help

Only other suggestion I can think is to change your RIL.
There is a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902752
Do you have good 3G, calls signal etc?
I use the latest (17) radio any the Nexus (1001G) RIL and have no issues.

It was already set to 'Never' but I fail to see the Regulatory Domain opition?!

Tried different RILs...
This is the thing, just went to my office and it works fine with a router over there. It fails to work at home, where it DID work in the past as well. All other devices I have are working fine with my home router except for Desire... Any ideas?
CM7, RC3 Rom has this option.
Can't think of any other issue with a home Wifi setup.
I dunno if my problem is wifi related, but when using K-9 Mail, Yahoo and Gmail always returns unsent, with the "Message not sent, connection reset by peer" error always appearing. It wasn't like this before, and my wifi works okay with my laptop. Market on my phone works flawlessly too. Anyone got an idea of what might've gone wrong?

Tricky....
Logic - on the day the problem occurred, something changed on a) your router, b) your hanset. Did you do any updates, flashing etc. or were there any updates to your router ISP? New tariff or anything, maximum number of connections?

I did flash LeeDroid 3.03, coming from 3.02... then rolled back to 'fix' the issue but it persisted. I tried then flashing _most_ available radios, RILs and ROMs so I think it's router related. Now, why would this be the case if all other devices connect just fine to the same router? Does Desire have some issues with 802.11N routers?

Hi, I am using Calkulin's 2 v1.6 ROM, with FE22 modem.
I noticed that WiFi on the phone keeps crashing, when I am trying to access internet via WiFi extender. When I am connecting via router no problems at all.
My friends also have E4GT, with stock EL29 firmware and modem, and they don't have any issues connecting over WiFi extender.
I tried other devices (iPhone 4S, iPod, laptops, netbook, etc.) those have no issues over WiFi extender either.
I tried just flashing the modem to EL29, FF02, FF18 and the results are the same as with FE22 (WiFi crashes and restarts on the phone).
Any remedy or anyone else having similar issues?
WiFi extender?? Are you talking about a repeater or an app?
I saw an app on the market claiming to 'extend' the wifi range of your phone. Obviously a bunch of bs. Hopefully that's not what you're talking about.

I have been on any number of roms/modems... In addition to my main one I have 3 routers flashed over to dd-wrt and used as repeaters throughout the house (yes, my wifi signal strength is EXCELLENT, EVERYWHERE!). I have never had any wifi connectivity problems nor have i seen this issue elsewhere on the forum before. Is it possible that a simple mistake is causing it, like a mistyped password saved as default?

What kind of wi-fi extender are you using? And is it possible that it's the wi-fi configuration that is causing the problem?
Reason for asking is I have seen odd behavior with my work network on occasion, but the configuration is correct.

I have the Diamond Multimedia WR300N WiFi Extender. The network is configured with WPA2 AES encryption (I tried using WPA & WEP as well).
Seems that only my E4GT has issues, like I said. My friends' pair of E4GTs with stock ROMs (EL29 and modem is also EL29) don't have any issues using my extender.

No mistakes for sure, as I get the IP address on the smartphone, get max strength indicator on the phone. Tried WiFi Analyzer, it shows connected, and no problems (verified MAC address of the extender).
Again, the only time I am having the problems are when connected to the WiFi extender.
Could it be that the hardware for the phone's WiFi is older than my friends'? I got the phone back in November, through Walmart's subsidiary (they had a much cheaper price). Could it be that the phone itself is of "early" releases, and may have earlier hardware that Samsung switched away from later on?
Basically, I am trying to figure out if it's a hardware issue, and if it is, I can try to get it fixed/exchanged via Samsung's 1-year warranty or through Sprint.

The driver changed with ICS so it could be a driver issue. It was a pain for me at work because I had to retweak my custom settings to get it to work again.
Here's a good test to verify: If your friends get the OTA and still can get on it's likely your phone. The only other thing you could try is the country code tweak in my wpa_supplicant.conf guide, which does seem to help sometimes.

Thanks for pointing it out. Just tried updating the wpa_supplicant.conf with ap_scan=2 and country=US. Saved it, tried to turn on WiFi radio, it wouldn't turn on. Tried restarting the phone, trying to enable WiFi radio, it won't come on. Finally deleted the file, was able to turn on the radio and OS basically rebuilt it, but of course without country code.
So, for this phone still no internet access via WiFi extender, but works like a charm with the router.

For your case you may just want to try adding the country and not the ap_scan=2.
I need that for the old RADIUS configurations at work and is known to be twitchy at times.

Yeah, I tried just country as well, and the WiFi radio wouldn't come on with it in the conf file.

Hmm. That in itself shouldn't cause the wifi to fail on startup...
Can you please copy and paste your wpa_supplicant.conf information when you have time?
(Please remove any specific SSID, IDs and passwords though)
If you would feel more comfortable doing this by PM that's OK too.
Just have an odd feeling that there is something else at play here.

Basically this its' content...
Code:

Ok, I went back to GB EL29 stock rooted, reflashed modem to EL29, same problem - no internet connectivity via WiFi extender.
Flashed FF18 Sfhub's OTA rooted (with FF18 modem), installed Agat's emmc recompiled kernel. Still no internet connectivity via WiFi extender.
Anything else that I can do/try, or should I just get on Sprint's/Samsung's case and try to get it replaced by either Sprint (although I don't have insurance plan) or go through Samsung's warranty (had the device for about 7 months)?
Thanks!

No MAC filtering. Tried with Static IP and DHCP...
WiFi works when connected to router, when I move to the WiFi extender, it hops on to WiFi extender, full bars, WiFi analyzer confirms the signal strength. IP address and the rest of the network settings are correct. but no internet connectivity on the phone.

Does the extender have a separate IP address or could it somehow be still trying to reach the router directly? You could try some ping tests to see how far that gets you, but if the repeater doesn't have a separate IP to route through I'm not sure it will get you anywhere.

The WiFi extender basically is an access point to the router. Its' DHCP is off, but the phone gets IP address from the router.
Again my friends' E4GTs don't have any issues getting to the internet via my extender.

Well if you're able to connect and obtain an IP address then I can't think of any reason why the traffic would not go through instead of a potential routing issue - at a hardware level it is communicating. Higher up in the process I could see a potential issue with routing if it is trying to route directly to the router and not through the extender.
I would try this test if you're wiling - enable DHCP on the extender, treat the extender as a subnet. This should require the repeater to get its IP address where you may be able to do a ping test and see where the traffic is being stalled. You could also try changing the SSID when contacting via the extender if it would allow. Honestly, any way for it to know more clearly which is which may help resolve your problem.

Thank you for providing assistance with this issue. I did the setup as you mentioned to no avail. Everything works fine as long as it's not in the repeater mode. Can't do a repeater configuration with a different SSID, though.
Also, tried turning the router off, and hooking up the extender via LAN cable to the cable modem, and configuring the WiFi extender as a "WiFi router". Everything was working again.
I came to the conclusion, that it's either the driver or the hardware, although the driver alone shouldn't be an issue, as I mentioned, we tested it with 2 other E4GTs on the same firmware & modem versions, and they didn't encounter any issues.
I went to Sprint store, paid $35 and should be getting a replacement phone under warranty shortly.
Will let you know how I make out.
Again thank you for all of your help!
All of a sudden I cannot connect to my home network. I am running Aeroevan's CM10. We just moved, but I kept the same internet provider and all the same settings on my router. My other devices can connect fine, but my phone will say "connecting..." then nothing happens. If I click connect again nothing happens. I was connected fine before this. I even loaded a backup of a previous working ROM in case it was CM10's fault, and it did the exact same thing. If it is the router's fault then I don't know what setting to change because it worked before, and it could be the phone because my computers can connect. Any ideas?

I had a wifi issue before, similar problems although not exact. Changing the "channel" on the router seemed to fix it. I'd give that a shot, then reboot the router.
OK, I played around with the settings. I had the router set to N only, and when I switched it to G and N the phone connected at 54 mps. I thought the incredible 2 had a N radio in it. Was I mistaken or is something wrong here? This wasn't a problem just a couple days ago.
I dont have an N Router...but IIRC the Inc 2 wifi radio doesnt play well with dual band.
Try playing around with those settings.

Mine works fine with N, but I don't believe it works on the 5ghz band.
I am unable to connect to my WIFI at home, I have tried everything I can think of, which is quite a bit. All I get is obtaining IP loop and then says poor signal and quits trying, (I have tried sitting right next to the router) My router shows that DHCP has handed the phone an IP, but the phone does not seem to take.
Tried adding a network manually
Tried advanced settings, and giving a static IP address, I can get it to show its connected but can not get any internet, data etc.
Tried the *#0011#
Tried a master reset, and tried to connect to wifi before installing anything.
I am at a loss, would not be a big deal but the 4G at home is sketchy, cuts in and out a bunch, plus for what I paid for the phone the wifi should at least work.
Tmobile tech support is not much help, neither is Samsungs.
Any help is appreciated!

Does your phone's wifi work on other networks? (Coffee shop, neighbor's, etc..)
What type of authentication is your router using? Try disabling authentication and see if it works.
What model is your router? Does it have up to date firmware?

Yes it connects to my work wifi.
WPA/WPA2
Its a Belkin router, not sure of the model off the top of my head, I know its somewhat newer cause it has the N protocol.
I would really suspect the router if I did not have other devices that work fine on the network, 2 kindle fires, 3 laptops, 1 S,Captive, Wii, and Xbox, and my Vibrant worked fine till I got this phone. Not everything is on at the same time, but I am sure that would not matter cause I have never had an issue when it all was connected at the same time.
Have you flashed a kernel lately? I have issues connecting to my router flashing some kernels. Just a thought.

I have the same issue, but my Wifi wont connect to any network and actually show throughput if I set the wifi power **** to off with the *#0011# menu.
I was stuck on stock roms because akop based (cmx) dont have that service menu.
I recently flashed to Uvalh2 stock rooted and the wifi works as it should for the 1st time ever. I flashed back to ulvem and it needs the 0011 **** again...
my home router is also a belkin with b/g/n, but my wifi never worked anywhere without the menu trick;
ANY help to troubleshoot if this is radio/kernel/rom based or what setting the menu changes so we can possibly set it manually in terminal..
thanks for this thread
Best I can think of real quick is to try different kernels and modems. (Check out the Modem Flasher in dev, makes it really easy)

Just hate the fact I have to try other kernels and modems after paying an arm and a leg for this phone, should not have to.
And seeing I have never done that before it makes me heisatate even more, I am sure I can do it, just that whole what it.
I just dont get why if I give the phone a static IP then it will connect, but can not move data, I went to the *#0011# and was able to ping the router and laptop on the network etc. I am at a loss

My Nexus 5x seems to be having problems with the WiFi. I have Android 6.0.1 MMB29V, and everything was working fine until I couldn't connect to my network. How can I check if it's the antenna what is broken? I have no idea what can be happening...

I used to be able to connect to three network I use, but now I can't even see the network. I don't think it's because of the router, cause with the PC I can see a lot of networks, none in my Nexus.
I may try to unlock bootloader and update to MHC19J and see if the problem is solved

So I bought a Nexus 5X 2 days ago. When I first started the phone it was running Android 6.0.0 and it didn't have issues. But a update for 6.0.1 showed up and I downloaded it. And then the issues came. It cannot find any wifi network... The problem isn't from my network, because every other device finds my home network and all the neighbors network, but the 5X doesn't find any... I tried factory reset, network reset, cache reset, nothing helped. I even tried Android N beta and for a moment it fixed the issue, but this morning the wifi problem occurred again. I sign out from the N beta and through Mobile network it managed to download the last stable version(that's what google is calling it) - 6.0.1 and the problem was still there.. after some restarts of the phone and some factory resets, i thought the problem was gone, because it managed to find every wifi network in the area, but after i used the phone for 25-30 minutes, the wifi problem occurred again and ever since... So, is this a common issue with the phone, or the android 6.0.1, or is my phone a defected one? Should I go to the store and ask for a replacement? Or will the next phone do the same thing ?

I sign out from the N beta and through Mobile network it managed to download the last stable version(that's what google is calling it) - 6.0.1 and the problem was still there.. after some restarts of the phone and some factory resets, i thought the problem was gone, because it managed to find every wifi network in the area, but after i used the phone for 25-30 minutes, the wifi problem occurred again and ever since... So, is this a common issue with the phone, or the android 6.0.1, or is my phone a defected one? Should I go to the store and ask for a replacement? Or will the next phone do the same thing ?

Hi something similar happened to my 5X (6.0.1). It was able to find wifi network but I was not able to use internet even-though internet was working for other devices. I have restarted phone but my phone stuck in to WIFI Obtaining IP address...
I have restarted my router and problem resolved. Happened two times. Might be some bug in software.
I'm currently facing this very same issue, no WIFI networks are showing up. I've already flashed latest N preview with same results, funny thing is that this morning was working just fine. But I had to reboot the phone and now it won't detect any WIFI Network at all.
I'm starting to think I have a failed unit, but since I'm outside the "US" I can't send it back for warranty repair. So I'll just keep it and keep restarting until it's fixed again. This is really frustrating, never happened to me with any device I owned before.

Is it every wifi or just your wifi?
If it is just your wifi, try factory resetting your router after recording the settings, or try removing some entries that my be using NVRAM.
I've seen cases where the router runs out of NVRAM to record the DHCP entries and that causes connection issues. It doesn't show up for other devicdes because their entries are already stored in NVRAM. It is just the incremental new device you add that triggers the problem, so you naturally think the problem is with the new device since all your other devices work with the router.
my solution for wifi not found/working
i´ve upgraded from the nexus 5 to 5x.
i had a really weird issue with my wifi.
only found my wifi when i was not in airplanemode. so i read 1000 of articles about the wifi of the n5x.
just the standard blabla. so i did my own research
while my n5 and my n7 + 2 laptops had never issues my new 5x didnt find my wifi. i really thought it was an hw-issue. but it wasnt.
i am using a fritzbox router. newest update, made a reboot, rebooted phone. nothing happened.
then i checked my wifi channels, set it to manually and instantly found my wifi. i really never expected that the channel got such a big influence. may be the latest update brought a bug for the wifi channels or the hw is just not capable of some channels, dunno. but this is what helped me and it was nowhere mentioned in any forum.
tl;dr
try to change your wifi channel of the router.
edit: btw i found the 5ghz while the 2,4ghz wifi didnt work. but i wanted the 2,4ghz wifi to work because of the short range of my 5ghz wifi.
atm i am on channel 8 and i got no problems with the 2,4ghz wifi network

I don't know about Europe, but usually in the US we only use channels 1,6,11 to prevent overlap.
This is because there is overlap in the channels so you can't really use the in between channels due to too much interference. If you are the only wifi transmission in your area it is fine to use any channel, but if there are others and they are using standard channels for no overlap/interference and you are using in-between channels, your signals are probably going to interfere with each other.
When everyone is using the set channels, then they can negotiate properly and everything works better. With overlapping frequency bands, the negotiation doesn't work well because your signal sometimes looks like noise to the other device.

Hi, thanks for your help but unfortunately it's every wifi... it just hangs on "Searching for Wi-Fi Network..." and stays there...
I already talked with LG and they asked me to send the unit for repair, but I'm no in the US anymore (I was for a short time of period and that's when I bought this phone). So that would not be an option, right now I'm only using 4G and trying to measure it, lol
Just another question, do you guys think I could use a WIFI external dongle through USB OTG? Could that be possible on the Nexus 5X?
Thanks for your help! :good::good:

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but the problem I'm facing it's with every wifi network around, not only mine.
I guess unit is defective, but could a simple reboot trigger this kind of behavior? This is strange, never happened on any device I've owned before. :crying:
