Okay so I finally installed a new speaker in my evo but they don't sound that loud like the original. Did I do something wrong?

Probably.
Why didnt you just take the phone to a sprint store? Your phone has a 1 year warranty for hardware defects like this.
Depends on where you got your speaker from. Was it O.E.M.? I installed one that I purchased and it sounded like ish, so I bought another. I've since replaced it 2 more times and finally got an O.E.M. one from a member here on xda. There really isn't a "wrong" way to put it in.

There is a wrong way lol when you assume the numbers go right side up you make that mistake. I did that the first time then fixed it. They don't seem as loud but they are clear. I'm still wondering about it though. Bought them from Gc something company. Five of them.

Well yea, there is that way, lol. As long as the contacts are touching you're good. Not hard though. Pretty straight forward.
The music doesn't sound nice like it did in September. Any solutions or do the speakers just suck?

Well its either installed wrong, or the speaker just sucks. The only way to tell is to try a different brand speaker.

Honestly, I wish I could tell you. This last one I put in was a factory speaker straight from another Evo, O.E.M., and it still doesn't sound right. I know its in right, and the same speaker. It does sound better than the bootleg aftermarket one I bought tho.

If you are using a custom kernel try switching back to the stock kernel for awhile and see if it goes away. I've noticed some songs with heavy bass lines will distort when using a kernel with the audio level tweaked.
I almost broke a pair of hundred dollar blue tooth headphones because I thought they were busted only to find out it sounded the same on a pair of regular headphone that I knew were good
If u have insurance on ur phone u can take it to Sprint and they will replace it free. Even if ur rooted. Also if u don't have insurance its 35 bucks
Ignorance is bliss but servitude is its partner
Be careful having your phone around any kind of metal machining/grinding work. The magnet in the speaker will attract any metal dust/particles nearby and the holes in the battery cover and mesh over the speaker opening are too big to stop the smaller stuff. I'm on my third back speaker because of this. Luckily they're easy to change and the place I ordered from sells a minimum quantity of 5 per order.

Pretty sure it was a sarcastic joke. If both your phone and your friends phone sound bad, more than likely it isn't a physical problem with the speaker, and if you aren't running the exact same custom kernel, that probably isn't the issue either.
If they speaker never sounded good to you, it is simply that you are just noticing that the 1/2" cell phone speaker sounds like a dog turd, which is sadly to be expected.
The EVO speaker is one of the best phone speakers I have ever heard, most are smaller and even more tinny sounding.
Went to sprint about my speakers and they are giving Me a new one for free......

haha yea that's about exactly where I'm at
It's not a fun situation... the speaker went in my phone that I had just gotten to replace the previous one when the screen died! I couldn't talk to my gf cause her voice would shriek in my ear in between sounding tinny. It's awesome, I'm on my 3rd Epic, and I have to reset my sensor manually every time i flash with this one... and her original bought the same day as mine works flawlessly :-D. Might want to re-odin to stock before taking it in though... warranty n all.
Randomly my speaker got grainy with low quality sound. My phone has been no where near water and I haven't dropped it. Do you think this is a random hardware issue and if so is it covered by att warranty?

Though it won't be much help as I don't remember the thread that I saw it on, but there were a handful of other people that are describing the same issue.

My speaker doesn't sound amazing either and where there should be bass it sounds droned out or something as if you were playing music louder than the speaker can handle.
Yea same with more crackling on lows

I don't think so unless it came blown out. I don't use my speaker to listen to music ever so unless a ringtone at max volume blew it then that isn't the case. I just don't think the speaker is very good and cannot handle full volume with any song that has any bass.
That happened to me on my Touchpad, when I installed a custom ROM, it "fixed" http itself. Have you tried a reset maybe? Or if you are rooted, flash a new rom?

Do you think it's a rom that's doing it? I mean it didn't sound any louder than normal and then just randomly starting to sound like low quality and the speakers blew. I'll try a new rom or stock soon.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Not sure, but that's what fixed it for me. I was running the stock ROM, so I doubt it was the ROM. Maybe something that needed to be cleared. Just trying to offer a possible fix, can't hurt to try right?

Yes my speaker sounds so bad. I just traded a Nexus 4 for this Note 2 and I like the note 2 more in every way other than the blown speaker. I'd replace it my self if i knew it wouldn't blow again. Let me know if you warranty it.

They showed an iPhone getting dunked in a bucket of water. Interesting idea. Would anybody ever try this on their phone/tablet/keyboard/laptop?
Now that I took a better look, it's a Sprint iPhone. No better iPhone to dunk in water. Just sayin.

That's really neat technology, but I wouldn't do it to the phone I paid $600 for. To be honest, water damage is the least of my concerns. I'm far more likely to drop it on pavement or gravel.

I sure hope you weren't a can of hydrophobic solution!
I remember seeing the first videos for this and thought it seems awesome. Many kinds of possibilities for the stuff. Just wondering how clear of a coating this stuff is, if it'll affect the touch sensitivity much, heat dissipation, and if it'll muffle the speakers and mic.

What about the connectors for battery, sd and sim cards, headphone jack, usb port.....I'm assuming you'd have to scrape the stuff off of where ever there needs to be bare metal for a connection. If anyone does this be extremely careful of the usb/charging port! It can be easily damaged. And this stuff probably won't be easy to get out of a headphone jack if it blocks the connection.
I'm also curious about the effect it has on the sound, but more importantly the mic. Will others be able to hear you as well?
I'm cautiously optimistic with this stuff. It is awesome, but for a smart phone, I don't know. Kinda wonder if they were just using it as an extreme demonstration, like the guy with a screen door in the bottom of the boat. Sure it can be done, but it is never actually recommended you do so.
Not trying to be a downer, just thinking of all the angles to look at before doing a $600 test. Be careful! And good luck! I really do hope it works w/o any issues!
Oh and someone asked about touchscreen sensitivity. They did not apply it to the screen.

Mine is the same. By same, I mean EXACTLY the same, with the exact same holes blocked and unblocked. I'm not concerned though. it still sound fine. Maybe this is normal?

The speaker is only under a part of the cover.
Check the ifixit tear down.
The other "unblocked" holes are the mic {on bottom) and notification led (on top}.

Well this is because it's NOT a defect, it's made that way, speaker is only under the left side of the grill, on right are other components underneath, so it looks blocked, it's not. :fingers-crossed:

For sure. The speakers are only half the length of the grill, if that. Hah nvm pics have been posted
Yeah thanks guys...yeah even on a video review said those holes are just there to make the speaker openings symmetrical looking...

Thanks for this thread. I had visited my local Verizon store this weekend and asked them about the "blocked" speaker holes and of course they had no clue. But their demo looked just like mine, and just like all the pics posted here. This saved me a call to cust service (which probably would have gone nowhere anyways, lol).
