How to get 'me' square back - Windows Phone 7 General

I accidentally deleted the 'me' square from the home screen and can't find it anywhere to get it back. I've looked in people, accounts etc but can't seem to get it. Anyone out there with a solution, thanks for responses in advance.

I had the same problem a few months ago. It's really sort of hidden. Go to the people hub. From there you can pin the me tile back to your homescreen by simply tapping and holding your profile which is displayed on the very top.

Thanks for that, they could've made it more accessible Thanks again.

wow, that is a hidden little thing. like the press and hold on "people" to get to the sim contacts copy function, and the press and hold on the "pictures" title to change the background image... cool when you find them, totally lost if you don't know they are there.

There are more hiddent tap-and-hold item that people don't know about. I think MS should implement a short 'glowing' for items are are tap-and-hold enabled. Like how collectibles in video games that glow and flashes

Is there a way to arrange start menu?

Mine seems totally random. It's not sorted by anything.
Not to sound like a jerk but do a search. This was posted recently and discussed before. I don't remember the reg path off the top of my head.

Thanks! but that one seems for arranging Settings?

I second smarttoolkit ( www.e-natives.com) . I wish M$ would pay him to license his start menu for when WM7 comes out. Instead of that crappy Grid or List View start menu
for sure. it's a great program/app. i've never had any issues w/ slowness because of it either. plus, the app closer is key to have that handy.

Never heard of the app closer key. Can you elaborate? If you're talking about the right soft-key to close applications for the smarttoolkit app then i understand what you're talking about. But if you're referring to a different program, please share.
And BTW, to the original thread creator, The smarttooklit organizes the start menu in alphabetical order with anything in folder form to come up first. But you can also pin favorite programs to the quick launch section of the start menu which are the first 6 programs that pull up on the left-hand side. You just have to navigate through your start menu, press the right soft key select " pin to quick launch" and select which launcher number you want to assign the program to.
on the right side, i have a task button, if you click it, open programs appear & you can close them.

Changing Bluetooth keyboard keys

Hello all. I recently got the Bluetooth Motorola Keyboard and I was wondering if anyone would be able to explain how to change any of the hardware keys on the keyboard to open an application. Thanks in advance.
any ideas?/shameless bump
At this time there is no way to change any of the keys. There are people working on this at this time but so far nothing has come out of it. I have the same keyboard but haven't found any need to change anything. What are you trying to do?
I like the keyboard I just wish the messaging button was mapped and be able open the process list (last 5 apps running)
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I hope somebody figures something out with this. (I was just Google searching for something on this, found nothing and figured we'd have something here on the subject.) The messaging button for example, does nothing. If it atleast opened Google Talk that would make things easier. Would make my usual Talk/Browser/Gmail switching much easier when using the keyboard.
And being able to change the contacts key to something else wouldn't be awful either. I don't think I've ever used contacts on my Xoom besides looking at it once and noting a pretty interface. So many other apps would be more useful.
I may be able to help with this. Can someone zip and post up your "/system/usr/keylayout" and "/system/usr/keychars" directories and post them up?
You should not have a /data/usr/keychars and /data/usr/keylayout directories, but give me a copy of those as well if they exist!
Still need those files if you will please good sirs.
I have no idea how to find the files you need. I plugged in my Xoom but I could never get into the system files. I R DUM
here they are
I came across this in the AOSP dev site http://source.android.com/porting/keymaps_keyboard_input.html#androidKeymapKeyLayoutMapTitle
I checked out my system/usr/keylayout/ folder and it shows 3 vendor layout files. i'm guessing those are the moto keyboard.
It looks like it can be done. Although the your xoom would have to be rooted to push a modded file.
looks like someone fixed this!

What about generic bluetooth keyboards? I've seen that many for example use Apple keyboards. I was thinking about getting a generic bt keyboard from eBay and remap the keys. Is there any chance that can be done?

No they didn't fix it. All they did was show how to change what was in the config files for the keyboards and add a WAKE function to an existing button function in order to wake the tablet with the keyboard.
What it looks like is being asked here is how to remap the default application buttons on the motorola keyboard (ie,.. messaging, browser, music, etc). The messaging button does nothing on the Xoom since it can't send text messages and the button was really meant to perform this function on the Atrix. There has also been questions as to how you could remap the browser button to another browser since setting the default browser to something other than the chrome one does nothing.
I've looked over that entire file and not once in there did it show a mapping for those keys to their respective functions. The function buttons have settings there, but I don't know if changing those would have any affect.
Anyone???
in case anyone didn't know, you can press the "search" key + a letter to open up applications. For example, "search" + T opens up Google Talk.

A bit late to reply, but maybe this can help you.
As 'gadgetluva' already mentioned, you can use the "search" key + a letter to launch some applications.
Previous versions of android allowed you to change the assignment of these in the settings. But somehow that option is gone in Honeycomb. The code to do it is still in there, but I didn't find any UI entry to it in the settings.
But, there is a dirty work around if you really want to change them. The application Task Switcher (there are multiple ones, I'm talking about the one from Jason Parekh) can be downloaded for free from the market. It's a nice and useful application, but you can also use it to open the hidden "Quick Launch" settings dialog. You do that by going to the settings of Task Switcher and choose Shortcut. That will open the "Quick Launch" settings dialog. In there you can (re-)assign the "search" key shortcuts at will.
It's a bit involved, but you only have to do this once ...
PS: Once you have Task Switcher installed, you can as well bind it to a key your not using with the free application exsbar. That way you also have a quick shortcut to switch between the running applications. A little bit like the Alt-Tab in windows.

[Q] How do you format a SMS?

Guys
Quite daft question really, but I do not see a way for me to enter a carriage return (enter character) in order to format a SMS message? All the message text goes on the same line.
Have we all stopped using SMS to send messages?? Anyone?

Kik FTW.
But yeah, it seems as though there's no option to substitute the smiley key for the return key on the default keyboard... one hideous workaround would be to compose in Gmail, then copy and paste into Messaging.
You could install another keyboard...but that's sort of ridiculous.
If you push the space bar enough times and then type something it will start on the next line

Good that you confirmed that.. I was going mad trying to search for a way to format a simple message. The OS is two steps forward and one step backwards in some areas really...
Yep, another keyboard stands as a possible solution, but I wonder why Google missed such an obvious option..
Thanks!

It also wastes that many of your 140 characters, and will not necessarily wrap to the same location on the receiving device. Not a realistic solution in this case. It's similar to people centering text in documents by adding spaces to the front of the text instead of just hitting "Align Center".

Yeah, it is unusual. It would be an incredibly simple fix if I had the messaging app source code, though. I imagine the text field is just set to a certain type of input, much like the 10-digit keyboard that comes up in certain contextual fields. Is the messaging app part of AOSP? I think it is. I should play around with that... *makes a mental note*
I would have imagined that the carriage return would appear as an option directly or in one of the contextual options. Looking at some of the characters included, I find it hillarious that they have included characters like copyright, pi, carat, etc....Who uses these in SMS's? scientists?
I know its old, but...
... 've been wondering how to put LF in SMS messages.
See the attached LatinIME, it has two smilies changed and an Enter button on the dot extra characters button.

[Q] Help - cannot move app icons or create folders on Home Screen.

Help - cannot move app icons or create folders on Home Screen.
I have had my Tab S 10.5 for 2 weeks now and realised that I cannot seem to move icons on the home screen or create folders on the home screen. When I hold-drag an icon on the home screen it says 'Tap Edit to rearrange widgets, shortcuts, or create folders' but I cannot find where the menu is for Edit etc. When I hold-drag on an empty part of the home screen I get the home screen highlighted with Wallpapers and Widgests at the bottom.
I can create folders in the app list and move to the home screen but get the same message when I hold-drag an icon to move into the folder.
Please can someone help me with this?
Thanks.

Yes I will be returning it this week to the JB Hifi I purchased it from. I will make sure I test for this issue before installing any updates.
Issue Resolved!
I have just found out how to create folders for the Home Screen and rearrange app icons on the Home Screen.
I was searching videos on YouTube and came across video tutorials for the S5 which helped me, to create folders you go to the apps screen then hold down an icon and drag it to the top left where 'create folder' should be and let go, then a folder will appear which you can name and after you save it the folder appears on the Home Screen, before you save you can also press on a + symbolto add more apps to the new folder.
To rearrange icons I don't know how I missed this, press the Home button to make sure you are on the Home Screen, then down the bottom right corner next to the Apps icon there is a pencil icon for Edit Page from here you can move app icons around and into existing folders.
I contacted Samsung live chat twice about this issue and they did not know how to resolve it and I was about to take my Tabs S back for a replacement!
Thanks for the replies to my post it is appreciated.

Impossible to copy past several words or lines in google chrome ?

Hello.
I dont know if it is an android issue or a google chrome issue. Then i don't know if i am in the right place.
When i read something on chrome mobile on my Samsung galaxy note.
And i want to make a copy of several lines or several words, i put my finger on a word. It highlights one word and the copy past floating menu appears. Then i want to make the highlight zone bigger. When i start to do that with my finger, the floating menu disappear and never come back.
And then i cannot copy anything.
You can see on these videos :
https://youtu.be/xJbruDeG4T8
https://youtu.be/lC_NsRNUCzE
https://youtu.be/CTtBB0yLVFM
Then how can i copy past several lines of words on google chrome on my galaxy note 10 ?
Thank you
The copy and paste worked ok for me I just tried it. I long pressed on the beginning and slid my finger across and down everything I wanted to copy.
I don't know why
In somes sites like xda it when ok

Yes i know exactly what you're talking about. That has happened to me plenty. I'm not sure if it's a bug with google or Samsung. How I'm able to work around it sometime, when the bug occurs, I would tap and hold while dragging slightly left or right, then release. This usually causes the floating menu to reappear. Hope that helps.
Hello and thank you for your answer.
I tried what you said with no success.
For example i don't have this issue on xda..
I do not have this problem either, probably a spammy bug, all his new releases have so many problems!
I do have a copy paste problem that is for sure a spammy issue though, because I can't get a new flat screen note 10 anymore because spammy must have his broken screens for job security lol, so with the "fake" tempered plastic curved screen protectors out now, they have a chemical coating that makes them super slippery and so when you try ti copy and paste it's way more difficult to do because you have to be a robot to keep your finger still as a stone now, all because of crazy spammy!!
I've gotten around this problem by using the FooView app. It's a floating button app that allows you to highlight pretty much anything on your screen, then let's you crop, search, edit, save, and select images, text and text in images. It's really customizable, and I use it everyday.
I'm not able to post links, just search FooView in the Google play store and you'll find it.
Cut and Paste on a Note is best done using your S-pen, not your finger... Tap, hold & drag, or use Smart Select.
