I'm on damagecontrol 3.2.3 with the latest radios, I have the latest version of wireless tether installed. When I tap on the symbol to start tethering, my laptop will not see the network at all. It only seems to be able to see it when I tap it again to stop tethering, then it'll pop-up on my computer, but won't connect because tethering is stopping.
I've tried turning WiFi encryption on or off, access control on or off, nothing seems to make a difference. I've tried manually turning wifi on before starting the tethering program, nothing seems to help.
Any ideas?
Computer is running Win7 pro.
I'm just going to throw this out there, but did you try to refresh your available connections?
If not, uninstall and instal the pre3 from here:

Install the pre3? or pre4 since it's newer?
I had issues with wireless tether with 3.2.3 but once I upgraded to Cyan 6, it works great.

Sorry, I hadn't seen the new version. I don't see an issue using pre4...I'm going to instal it on mine now. When I was running DC 3.2.3, I was using the pre2 so I know that should work.
Also, if you are using a program like autostarts, ensure you don't have any rules keeping wifi tether from working properly.
Pre 5 is working fine for me on fresh 1.whatever it is

I was running DC 3.2.3 until last week. I was also having issues with wifi tether and removing and re-installing the app solved my issues.
The 3G (no 4G in NYC..yet) speeds are a WHOLLEEEEE different story though....
Hello everyone, I cannot connect to my tether or mobile hotspot, The device or laptop picks up the tether and connects but no internet. On my evo it will show usage being active but On the device or laptop it keeps saying limited connectivity. Has anyone had this problem? How did you solve it?
I have the same problem too on miui rom
I've never used hot spot, but in WiFi tether, check and see if access control is on or off. It you have it on and want it on, then make sure you give permission to the device accessing it.
If not try rebooting the phone. If that fails, clear the data from the WiFi tether app so it loads the binary files again the next time you open the app.
One of these always works for me.

Are you using the app or the built in hotspot?
When I open Tether, Hotspot comes on, on its own or at least the hotspot app opens up (but doesn't start up).

Ok, when you flashed Myn's rom, did you keep the stock kernel or did you flash another kernel after the rom? I think it comes with the stock HTC kernel which won't allow the wireless tether to work.
Hi I just flashed CM7 stable to my phone and I just reinstalled Wireless Tether for Root Users but for some reason it doesn't work. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
Is not going to work; it'll only work on sense roms. Also, you need tor eboot your phone so that your wifi will work.
use barnacle wifi tether its usually works with asop roms, wireless tether only works on sense
I'm not sure why, but wireless tether works perfectly fine for me on CM7, and other aosp roms. I'm.currently on salvage mod, and wireless tether for root users works perfectly. A month ago or so, it didn't work for me on any gingerbread rom, as it just have errors. Then a couple weeks ago it started working for me. Idunno, but I'm happy with it. I thought the app devs updated the app to work with gingerbread.
Edit: if you restored an old backup of wireless tether, try downloading it from the market. Market version works, my old backups don't.

When you get to a pc, do you think you can pull it from your app and send me the apk, because I've tried all versions and it starts with errors for me. It'd be much appreciated.

Yea, definitely man. Its weird that it doesn't work for you? Ill get it for you in a minute.

EDIT: Here ya go man. And a few screen shots to show it working on my Salvage Mod Setup. Like I said, a month or so ago, I used to always get "wireless tethering started, but with errors" or something to that nature, as you mentioned. Then I took like a month off of AOSP and ran VaelPak. Then I came back to try CM7, and to my surprise Wireless tether worked fine. And it also has for me on SalvageMod, Evervolv, and Savaged Zen. As I said, I had assumed that at first the app wasn't compatible with gingerbread just yet, and that the devs of the app had fixed it during my time on VaelPak. Strange.

Thanks, and appreciate it. Gona test it right now.
Why not just use the built-in tethering that comes with CyanogenMod? You can find it under Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Tethering & portable hotspot ? It's based on the AOSP tethering that Google built.

Because you can't tether 4G with the native built in tethering. That's the only reason. I need my 4G tethering, which the wireless tether app provides.

No go. Took a 5 minute shower, and still on "please wait while starting tether."
Though you running salvage mod and me CM7 [basically the same] but the only difference is our kernels; you on savaged zen and me on Tiamat. I'm starting to think the Tiamat may not be "net filer" compatible, which is why its not working. Just a speculation.

Hmm. That's odd man. I was using the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel the other day for a few minutes, but I couldn't stop the reboots long enough to even see if tethering worked at first. My phone hates undervolting. Then I tried ViperBoy's overvolting script, and that stopped the reboots. Once i was able to check tethering, it worked fine on Tiamat too.
I wonder if it has anything to do with busybox, or what SU binaries are being used or something. I don't get it. Am I just lucky to have wireless tether working on Gingerbread? In my super user app, it shows Su binary V2.3.1-ef. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything, lol, but who knows. I know when you start wireless thether the first time, super user pops up and says 'binaries installed' or something like that, so maybe if they're not right it's causing problems. Just thinking out loud here.

I guess so dude. The only thing I can recall doing differently, was using a modified version of wireless tether, for vaelpaks rom, right before I switched to cm7, and then it worked. And it has since then, on any rom, froyo, gingerbread, aosp, sense, it just works for me. I'm baffled. I want it to work for others too, haha. What the hell is different with my Evo??

Try this version. It's modified by vaelpak. Right after I used this version of WT when I was on vaelpak, I switched over to CM7, and tethering worked. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it worked right after I used this version.
On my SD card, I have two 'android tether' related folders. One of them is 'android.tether', and it contains a file called fw_bcm4329.bin. The other is 'androidtether', and it also contains the same fw_bcm4329.bin. I'm not sure why I have two folders, both containing the same binary file, but I'm leaving them both there lol.
Also, I just uninstalled the version that I had been using, which I got from the market. I installed this vaelpak version of wireless tether, and again, it continues to work fine for me. This was on salvage mod. I just restored a CM7 backup that I had, and wireless tether continues to work perfectly for me??!!

If you can fix the browser lag what we were getting that would be great.
Thanks for digging that up for me. Don't think I'm gonna try it though, don't want to deal with the browser lag. Wireless Tether (the app) works for me, it just keeps broadcasting an SSID even after I stop tethering. Gotta reboot to stop it. I'll put up with that for now until a better solution comes out.

Which Wifi tether app are you using? I have several good ones. You are rooted stock right?.... goes to read back posts...full stock or rooted MetalHead? If you are rooted stock I have Wifi Tether 3.1 beta 6, beta 99, and beta 100. When the network is saturated, sometimes it works better than my paid for 4g Hotspot

I'm rooted stock w/cwm. I'm using wireless tether 3.1 beta 6. I've tried a couple other ones and even tried barnacle, all with the same results. They all work, but they all keep broadcasting an SSID (no data though) until reboot.
Do you know of any settings to have wifi tethering work without the hotspot plan?
With my old HTC sensation I just had to create a new apn with (epc.tmobile.com) to make it work, but with the GIII this is a no go....

several us (at least on verizon) seem to be able to do it just with toggles. Those with other carriers let us know if it works for you...
Thanks for the info,
I have tried the widgets option but still no go.
Still getting the T-Mobile Hotspot signup page...
anyone able to get this working?
I've also noticed this to be annoying. My HTC Sensation would tether no problem on the same data package. Now T-Mobile has it locked down somehow. Hmm.

Do this, go to Google Play and download (WiFi Tether For Root Users) open the app go to settings, 1) Change device-Profile to Generic ICS. 2) Change Setup-Method to Netd (master). Now go back and click on the big WiFi icon to start tethering, soon as the system finds the device pull down the notification and authorize it, make sure the Access-Control is enabled., your're all set, good luck.

I guess this will encourage him to ROOT, one of the perks you get being rooted.
T mobile can be a real pain in the ass with blocking tethering. I don't believe the app matters best way I know to get around it is to change the user agent on the computer and do not use internet explorer. I believe chrome and firefox have plugins for that.
I tried FoxFi on a non-rooted stock t999, doesn't work. Sends out the wifi signal, but the computer never actually connects to it. Keeps giving me some kind of error when trying to connect to wifi.
Using the built in tether wifi option, I can connect to the wifi being supplied by the sgs3, but any web activity takes me to the t-mobile hotspot sign up page.
OP use firefox, not chrome to tether. seriously.
and you can try downloading the 'tether' app from the clockworkmod website. google it.
I tether my nexus 7 from my sgs3 with foxfi and its really simple. Just make sure u install pdanet on the device u want to tether. I'm doing a tether with Bluetooth.

Very interesting, i use wifi tether for root users and after using for awhile i get a push message saying i need to stop tethering or it will be blocked, and then i recieve another saying it has been blocked, its a push message so im wondering if t-mobile has a app hidden inside the touchwiz rom to make sure it cant tether... sigh
Hi!
I just installed Foxfi app. on my phone. I noticed there is also an app. called "Foxfi AddOn" and according to the description it provides some optional features to the Foxfi application.
Has anyone installed this app? The reason I am asking this question is because I noticed that by agreeing to install this app., personal information is accessed ("general info about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private info").
The above quote I got when I press to "install" the app., so I would appreciate any feedback/advice on installing this app. Thanks!
