[Q] Problem flashing Myn's themed launcherpro! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried everything. I had it earlier, switched ROMs, decided to come back to Myn's and now I can't get the themed launcher. What do I do?

First off, the answer is in Myn's thread, as there were a lot of initial problems. Second of all, know that that version is not the newest version of LauncherPro, and that you can actually theme the app any way you want regardless.
To flash the zip, first re-download to make sure you didn't get a corrupted file, then move it to your sd card. Then wipe cache/dalvik-cache in recovery, and lastly flash the zip.

Stock 3.30.651.3 Rooted ROM, Where?

Hey all, so here's my situation. I've been flashing Myn's ROMS for the past month. Recently I noticed my phone going into random rebootes, especially when I start browsing the net or market. I noticed that I was running low on space on my SD card so I started removing some stuff I didn't need anymore. However, in the process I accidentally deleted the folder that contained my NAND backup when I first rooted my phone. Now, every time that I boot into recovery RA, and do a full wipe/factory reset, it only deletes my data and keeps me on Myn's latest ROM. I'm trying to go back to STOCK root 3.30.651.3 so I can start over. Can someone point me to a stock ROM that I can download and flash? What are my best options here? Thanks in advance!!

You can easily search through the Dev thread...... here is one you can flash. HTH.
I use Steelh's rom when I switch to a stock rom., it is deodexed and has a couple extras, other than its stock give it a shot.

Thank you for the replies. I assume I can flash these just like any other ROM? Also, once I go to one of the stock roms, I'm going to do a full wipe and flash Myns ROM. Should I download the deodexed version or does it matter? Thanks, and sorry for noob questions.

[Q] Having major problems on Sense roms, help!

I haven't found any solution with this. About 3 or 4 weeks ago my Evo went crazy so I rebooted and was missing many apps. I did a nand to another sense rom and every time I tried to install an app (either download or from sd card) it would reboot. The odd thing is, it only does it with sense roms. I can use CM 6 or 7 fine and install whatever I want. I was originally one Myn's rls5, I also tried the Fresh roms. I have non clue what's causing this, tried googling and all said clear the market cache or try an older market, which I've done both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
tricky one. have you tried flashing a stock sense rom, and seeing how things work for you there?
Don't use a backup. Flash a sense ROM and install everything manually.

I haven't tried a stock rom yet, once I get things back up I'll find one and try it.

I can't install anything. period. as soon as I try to install any apk from my sd card or anything from the market that doesn't come installed in the rom, as soon as it "finishes" the installation part it will reboot, but not a full reboot, it will go out to the boot screen (but not all the way to the htc screen).
Since going from AOSP to Sense what was your procedure for flashing? Just want to make sure your starting with a clean slate.
- What steps to you take?
- Full wipe? Data, cache, sd-ext?
- SD format?
The more info you can give the better and maybe we can help you track it down.
Ive done the standard full wipe, data, cache, dalvik. I do that everytime between roms. Not sure what the ext does and in haven't formatted my sd card since then

Update - I flashed the stock rooted 3.70 and was able to install. This was after formatting my sd card. Then tried to flash Myn's rls5 again and had the same problems as before. Only difference is with the 3.70 I forgot the flash the radios, but still had a fine signal. I flashed the radio updates with Myn's. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
At this point all I can think of doing is unrooting your device and getting it completely back to stock, then try re-rooting and make a nandroid of your rooted, stock sense rom.
Maybe you can root through a different methods than what you did originally.
After that, try another sense rom, make sure the md5 checks out too.

What recovery are you using and what version? I thought there were known issues with ClockWork 3.x.x.x version of recovery not wiping cache correctly? If you are using ClockWork you might want to try switching to Amon_RA 2.2.1. to see what happens. There is also a zip floating around (which I have attached) that can be used to wipe everything, you may want to give that a shot then reinstall the ROM. I have not used this zip, so use it at your own risk as I cannot guarantee the results. I have read about others using this and it working just fine.

[Q] Having problem changing ROMS...NEED HELP!!!

Heres my situation...Im currently running MIUI 1.3.4 ROM. I finally decided to try out another rom so I choose Warm Two Point Two RLS 5. So I downloaded that as well as radio/wimax update zip that was said on thread to flash w/ rom.Heres EXACTLY wat I did: (1st) Did a Nandoid backup (2nd)did a full wipe...data/factory reset...cache...then dalvik (3rd) flashed Warm 2pt2 ROM (4th) in same recovery session wiped cache...then dalvik and flashed radio/wimax update(was told to wait for for radios to flash..would see little green arrow/phone icon which I did (5th) then I rebooted. So my problem is after doing all that it rebooted back to my MIUI rom and NO new rom was installed! Dont get what I did wrong! I hav not had problems flashing different kernels on the MIUI rom but struck out on starting with fresh install to change roms. So can anybody give me advice on this matter?
are you using clockwork? try RA.
Try it again. Or maybe try flashing the radios first, then the rom.
Flash calkulin's format all, then flash the radios, then myn's rom, then reboot. Nothing else, and do it all within one recovery session.
The format all will wipe all the things you did, plus system and one other. It's usually just a good idea to do whenever you switch actual rom's.

yes I used unrevoked 3 to root my phone so im runnin clockwork. So if I wanted to change recovery...how wud I go about doin that?
It was said on the install instructions in the thread I got the warm's two point two rom from to flash rom first then radio/wimax update. Does it really matter or will I mess up my phone if I do it the other way?

try clockwork again, except in your step (2) when you get to wipe dalvik hit yes, let it load, then hit restore boot at top....let it load, then when it returns to main, hit chose zip and flash...
..or in clockwork scroll down to alternate recovery...hit it should change to RA. MAY need to be the paid version i forget.
you could also do the other suggestions.
Edit...as for the updates it won't matter if the radios and ROM are up to date.
Well thts wat I mean as far as I kno Im not a sense rom if im runnin MIUI which is a AOSP rom. Thats why Im askin if flashing the radio/wimax update before the the Warm's rom wud do anything to my phone? I already hav the Calkulin's format all zip on my sd card so I will try tht but before I do I just need to kno if its ok to flash update before rom.
You are fine to flash the radio/wimax before flashing the rom.
Well I finally got the warms rom to flash. It ended up being a corrupted zip file on my sd card. So I deleted it and downloaded it again on my sd card then flashed...so everything is workin now....YEH!!!! Thanks everyone for the advice...much appreciated!
Glad you got it working...and that's the end of that chapter.

How do I upgrade rom (to cyanogen 7) after previously rooting with AutoRoot v2.4

Hello,
I think the subject says it all. I currently have android 2.2 (can't even remember what ROM I flashed) after rooting using Autoroot 2.4. Now I'd like to update my ROM to cyanogen 7. How do I go about doing this?
It appears that if I go to power down and choose reset -> recovery that Android System Recovery loads w/ Build "RA-supersonic-v2.3 - HAUS MOD rev.A" -- I presume that this is the key to flashing cyanogen 7?
What I think I do is:
Put cyanogen 7 image (zip file) in root folder of SD card
Boot into recovery mode
Make backup (NANdroid)
Select Wipe, then Wipe data/factory reset
Select Flash zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Reboot
and I'm done???
But I would appreciate some more or less brick proof direction.
Thanks!
Personally, I would suggest Deck's or SalvageMod instead of CM7. Both are optimized and fly!
Well you would need whichever CM7 you want to flash (stable, nightly, etc). Also, you will need GAPPS. Probably want a custom kernel too, I suggest Tiamat 4.1.0 SBC.
Download and put on SD card. Boot into recovery.
Wipe cache and dalvik. Then nandroid, select everything you want. I typically keep on backup on my card.
Wipe everything except for SD card twice. Navigate to Flash Zips. Flash the ROM, then GAPPS, then mount data in "Mounts" then flash Tiamat kernel. Reboot. Let it sit, then reboot. Then do the setup

Thanks for the help. I installed cyanogenmod 7 and it seems to be working. I'm now restoring my backups. I don't really like the default skin and much preferred my old rom. I wonder if just changing the theme will help (I think I like the more factory setup... is that called sense?)
What is the advantage of installing tiamat kernel?
Thanks for the help!
The default skin is just a default. Take a look at my setup, picture in my signature). It doesn't look anything like the default setup for Cyanogen.

Tiamat kernel has different governors, has HAVS, and SBC. There is a sticky at the top of Q&A discussing kernels, it is really helpful.
Are you talking about the theme or launcher? You can always install another launcher from the Market. I have grown fond of Launcher 7. Themes, there are many options. Check Evo Themes and Apps section. You can also download themes to use in Theme Manager from the Market too.
OR, have you heard of UOT Kitchen? Google it, watch a tutorial. You can make your own flashable theme!
And yes, HTC's software is Sense. I suggest MikG, it has 4G and everything, much more functionality than stock software. It is Sense to

Thanks for all the info!
I'm trying to install the theme "HTC.Elegance-CM7-Theme v4.5.1"
To do so I've gone into the recovery menu
then I wipe cache and dalvik cache
then I load the HTC elegance theme zip file like I did to flash the cm7 mod and
reboot
however, it keeps booting into the default theme. What could I be doing wrong here?
Also, is there a graphical app that will allow quickly changing themes w/o multiple reboots?
Thanks!
CM7 seems quite slow. I may bail on this one and try something else. My last rom was sprintlovers and believe it or not I liked it a lot. Would MikG provide a similar experience or is something else similar recommended?
Thanks!

I guess you'd get a similar experience, its sense based, with all his extras. So if you lik sense, go ahead and try it.
Thanks again for all the tips. I ended up restoring my phone w/ NAND and then installing latest sprintlovers to get me up to 2.3. That's all I really need at this point, hopefully it does everything I need it to do.

Flashing the theme just loads it into your phone. Once you've flashed it you need to go into your app drawer and select the app called "Theme Chooser." When that opens you can scroll through the various themes loaded onto your phone. Select the one you just flash and hit "Apply." Bam! You're all themed up!

Need some help asap

ok well i just downloaded and flashed the chopsuey kernel and now when im rebooting, my phone only sits at the htc evo 4g screen.. someone PLEASE HELP.. i think my phone just got bricked
No problems mate, just pull your battery, replace it,when turning on hold your volume button down, when you entered the bootloader, scroll to recovery and wipe your phone then find restore/nandroid then restore your phone to your latest backup, hopefully you did back up,if not reinstall the rom again after you wipe everything, then next time set your CPU to a lower setting, then move up gradually.I hope this helped.
blah.. so new to this i didnt know i could backup through recovery.. thought it meant like my apps and what not =/ guess i have to wipe
I set my phone to high the first time and it did the same thing and of course i freaked, lol. After bricking your phone a few hundred times, you remember to do a backup regularly.
what rom are you using? Hopefully not a AOSP cause Chop Suey is a sense kernel.
well my set cpu wasnt working because i was using stock kernel.. all i did was flash the chopsuey rom and then i just hit reboot and i was stuck at the htc evo 4g white screen.. what did i do wrong?
i am using team nocturnals sense 3.0 themed rom. more specifically, shooterRLS_3.1

i just retryed and now its actually starting up so blah.. is it actually not compatable or not?
If its running ok,use it.
oh ok.. i dont want to screw up my phone.. so blah.. thanks for the help.. almost had a heart attack
Did you wipe cache and Dalvik before you flashed the ROM? If that ever happens again, wipe those then try to boot again. If it still doesn't boot, wipe everything and reflash your ROM, err, start over, but since it was just a Kernel, that would probably wiork
Whenever you flash a new rom, wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik, system, boot, .android_secure, sd-ext). Whenever you flash anything that isn't a rom - kernels, themes, mods, boot animations, etc - or flash an update to your existing rom then wipe cache and dalvik only.
Always make a nandroid backup when you flash a new rom. I don't nandroid for everything I flash, but if you're flashing a new kernel and it has been a while since you did a backup then go ahead and do another one. You can always delete nandroid backups to save space, but keep at least one on your SD card. Also nandroid before modifying system files, like removing system apps.
Always read about what you're doing before you do it.
I know you solved your problem, just pointing some stuff out that you may have missed along the way. Good luck & happy flashing!

True that. I keep 5 Nandroids on my phone at all times: Original Stock/Rooted. Stock/Rooted with updated apps +TB & GPS Status, Last good setup, Current ROM before I added all my apps, etc. and Current ROM after a fresh flash.

Jeeze, I feel like I take so many shortcuts...I only keep a backup of my CM7 latest, and currently ICS, incase I had to switch for whatever reason.
I keep all my apps up to date in tb so that alleviates that issue.
Well, it's not about apps. I like to have the barebones, stock/rooted all the time. The updated stock is for when I need to run the Sense Fix for GPS, or just updating profile/PRL.
The last Good Setup is obvious, as is the current good setup.
The bare bones Nandroid for my current ROM is in-case I screw up, I can go back to that and start over

Well that makes sense. If I mess up, I just go back to the last backup. xp Though neither practice is bad.
