I don't know what would cause it to do only that. And I know how you feel, my mom's phone messed up back in 2005 when I had my extensive brain surgery, and all the pics were trapped in that phone, and till this day they still are and can't be taken off the memory and won't turn on.
So I know your fury, but I hope it was a one time thing...

So these files can't even be seen when you have your sd card mounted as a disk drive? You go to your DCIM folder, and your pics aren't in there? I have seen people report of there being a ".nomedia" file being put in certain folders, by certain apps. When there is a .nomedia file in a folder, the gallery won't scan that folder for pics, and they won't be visible in your gallery. Are you sure that something like this didnt happen? I've seen that certain music players can put these .nomedia files in certain folders. For what reason, I'm not sure.
Or is it far worse than that, and all of your folders are actually 100% missing from the card all together?
Yeah they str8 up deleted from my card.. i thankfully use mylookout and miq to backup my pics. I found a lot but my sons r missing from that week kinda ****ty.. and

Well that's odd, and I have no idea what would cause that? I usually copy the contents of my sd card to my computer every couple of weeks, and then just delete the prior one. Just in case I were to ever lose my phone, or if the card went south, like yours did. So I always have a relatively up to date copy of my sd card on my pc.
And you're talking about your signature? How it's showing that you have a Desire HD? That's funny, are you on a port at the moment?

i think i asked in another thread about edify.. i been making flashable fonts for myself after reading a how to.. would that cause my card to crap out.. could i not be doing edify correctly?
Well if the edify script wasn't correct, I don't think it would have flashed, but I could be wrong.

Amazing there is no way to fully back up your phone... my palms were amazing.... hard reset a million times and push one button and its all back... Sprite was awesome

Ok cool I found them, but when I open the gallery app it says no photos or videos found. And the same thing is going on with my music. How can I fix this, I found everything on my sdcard, so how do I get the players to find them??
Unless there is a . In front of your folder it should pick them up automatically try taking your sdcard put it back on see what happens

I ask cuz i had trouble with 3d gallery trying to find pics that were in subfolders. I think i was using myns rom.
Im not exactly sure how to make the gallery find them especialy if their not already there, but unmounting then mounting the sdcard or using switch pros feature to reload media would be my only suggestion.
I fixed my problem, i put all my important files on the computer including my pics. Then i formatted my sdcard then i put all of my pics in the DCIM folder under the camera file and walla i fixed the problem.

The album should find them automatically. I took out my SIM card and put it into a friends Evo and my music and photos were automatically compiled. Is your SD card still mounted? Because if so, your SD card won't work till you unmount it from your PC.

Thanks so much. Saved my bacon
Hi Folks, sorry to post this here but I am concerned this could be an imminent something. When the phone was hooked up to my computer tonight I noticed some duplicate folders on my SD card - 2 "Music" folders, "Android" and maybe 1-3 more. I disconnected the USB and yeah, I see it on phone file explorers too! But this can't really be possible because if I had 2 Music folders which are 12 GB each I'd be out of space, right (it's a 16 GB card)? So what's going on?
Have u opened the folder and seen what's inside of them and how big the files r (if the exist)?
Sometimes I would notice some doubles in my music but the second file would b 0 bytes and I just dlete them

Did you use your SD card in any other phone, update your phone or flash a different ROM? It could be for any of them or apps you've installed. I don't think its a huge deal though.

The folders appear identical, right down to size, number of files, etc. And no, haven't done anything unusual or made any big changes.

Best thing to do is to backup your card onto a computer. Make those 4 folders and backup those files, check your pix and music on a computer to make sure they copied OK. Then reformat the card and restore so that it only shows 1 of each folder again. Sounds like the directory has become corrupted.
If that doesn't work then try using a different card

i have the same problem....when i connect my S2(jellyKingRom) to pc, i see all folders double...today im gonna change sd card and im hoping thats gonna solve the problem coz its pain in the eyes

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been looking for the solution everywhere and you solved my problem so I had to let you know. My external Micro SD card would show 4 copies of every file and I couldn't work with them. After applying your solution I'm back to one copy of each folder when I connect to my PC and I can work with them again. Thank you again!
I'm gonna try this. Been driving me nuts looking for an answer so I've just been dealing with it. Was going to copy 100g of audio to the computer to format the card eventually. I'll let you know how it goes.

Looking for some help here. Long time viewer/poster, first time I've had a problem. Perhaps I can find help.
After a music transfer last night, my phone is no longer recognizing the files in my SD card's Music folder. The files can still be located and played through ES File Explorer and other file manager apps, but all my music players (Play Music, Winamp, stock HTC player) do not show them.
Upon searching the forums and the Internet, I have noticed this problem exists across multiple devices, and the solutions are easy to do and seem to work...for everyone except me. Clearing app data/cache, uninstalling/reinstalling, using SDrescan, searching for .nomedia files (none found anywhere), unmounting/remounting, wiping and reflashing my current ROM (DigitalKarma V8)...nothing works, and I am running out of patience. I am close to completely resetting the phone and reformatting the SD card (after backing up, of course...I'm not THAT stupid )
It's likely I may be doing something wrong, but to be safe, I want to see if there is anything I am either missing or overlooking in order to fix this common yet annoying problem. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah the best step if you've tried everything would just be to reformat your sdcard because it sounds like something broke on that
OH. 1 thing before you do that, make sure that the permissions for your music is set to readable by everyone, hopefully that fixes it

Wait, hold the phone. Using File Manager to search my SD card, I find a whole s***load of .nomedia files. ES File Explorer couldn't find them...guess I found a new file manager lol
Now to delete all those files and try this thing again...wish me luck.
Fixed! Looks like I did miss/overlook something, and deleting those .nomedia files took care of everything. Now that I have my music back (and a new file manager...well, not really new, I've used it occasionally in the past), I can get back to enjoying the piece of classic awesome we call the EVO 4G. Consider this case closed.
Put "[SOLVED]" in the thread title please

That's exactly what you do is delete all those .NO MEDIA files. Also, there's an app called Rescan Media that will work
Please check out the image below. It doesn't matter what I do..delete, reformat these odd ball folders and files...sometimes over 500 of them, always come back! Believe me. Any help at all short of drop testing the phone would be greatly appreciated! Thanks heaps for the read.

What is the icon in the notification bar with the mu symbol? The mu seems to be part of the equation.

Yeah, couq76 is right, the first icon on the top left is the culprit. Find that app and delete it.
BTW, how come you have 3 gps signal icons?

looks like utorrent for android, not sure why it would be generating all those files. and those 3 icons are malwarebytes icons. i didnt know malwarebytes has an android version im going to go download it now!

if it is uTorrent, they're probably temp files that haven't been downloaded yet. If you watch how torrents download on a PC you'll see there are usually temp files that have to be "filled in" with the file data
if there are no active torrents then those files are probably just leftovers from abandoned downloads.

Right on all counts guys. And pretty fair eye balling as far away as you are. Yes my first thought was that uTorrent Beta was dropping some bugs, so naturally I uninstalled it and cleaned up what I could find within the system. Then I deleted the weird (looked like uTorrent folders and files. Cleaned up again but the suckers came back like bad pennies but this time they seemed to grow logarithmically. The seemed to be attracted to a folder that I had named "Programs" as I was going to stash uninstalled programs inside (go figure) as that was the first folder to be come affected again. So I got out the RAID, bombed them again; all 458 of them now; then formatted using the note 2 stock program and wonder of wonders they came back again. IOkay I'm thinking I'll fix all you guys. I pulled the external SD Card, slipped it into the (make it the right size thingy) to fit in the media slot of my laptops and long formatted the 32GB there. Guess what, no luck the [email protected]@rds were back the next day. My last thought is to boot up with Hiren's Boot DVD and do a 010101010101 back to brand new were it a real hard drive "destructive low level format but with my luck so far, I'll either ruin the SD Card or the damn bugs will return. I'm flat out of ideas, What do you guys all think? he said "still befuddled"!
BTW, I am as well clueless as to why Malware Bytes shows up three times in notification but it did catch a bug first time out. Or maybe it just wanted to look good..who knows at this point (laffin) I just uninstalled and reinstalled it now only one icon show up. So, I am Waaay open for suggestions. Thanks for your time and thoughts guys. Much appreciated.
PS. Just as a sidebar: It always upset me when I'd install one of these Android type programs. The nearly brag about stealing your undoes and shoes. Now I ask ya, why would something like AndroZip need to access my phone? Irked me a bit so I got to searching and by god there are APKs that are supposed to be able to turn x-ray vision off. Hoping this is not a waste of your time....The one I like best so far is App Ops, the next in the "try it out line" is Advanced Permissions Manager. Both rate well and have the right look and so far have not crippled a program. Amazing. Looking forward with baited breath for your sage like observations and advice....and that of any other or you smart guys. Thanks again.

Im no dev, but in your recovery menu try wipe cache, data, and factory reset. if that dont work try a fresh install of your rom with out the sdcard. if it seems to work try using the sd card again. At least that will give you a clue to where the files are coming from

Hi,
Great minds do think alike. I did as you suggested a week or so back excepts I did it harder. Although I left the Extended Memory Card in, I accidentally wiped the whole phone and formatted everything using TWRP. Still the buggers returned! However
Since formatting again killing them all 2 days ago using using the android 4.3 internal app formatting app the backwards u's have yet to come back! I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for coming by to see me.

Your very welcome, that is why we are all here . definitely keep us all posted. Who knows maybe the next guy will catch this new disease you speak of and come across this and it may either help him, or he can help us figure out the source. Meanwhile I suggest that you get some condoms for your phone ;P
