[Q] how to delete nandroid backups

how do I delete nandroid backups for an evo 4g?

I delete mine by using a file manager then go to the nandroid folder and delete the old nandroids also I backup ALL my nandroids on my pc then delete them

Go into nandroid folder then into the next folder H something, in that folder will be all your nands named by date. Just delete which ever ones you don't need either via some root explorer app or Pc usb.

Go to the sd card > open nandroid folder > open HT... > select the backup and delete it.

I have just recently rooted my intl' S3. I also did a nandroid backup to the phone twice and its taking up quite a bit of space. I have tried to locate the nandroid folder from what you posted and cannot find the nandroid folder. I am using astro folder right now but maybe switching to my file app later if this does not work. thanks in advance!

The folder should be named whatever recovery you are using. If you're using ClockworkMod, it may say 'clockworkmod' or 'cwm'. If you're using TWRP recovery, it should say 'twrp'. The backup files will be in that folder.

Fln is correct, in that it'll be named whatever recovery you're using. Probably cwm, listed under clockworkmod, unless you explicitly changed to twrp. Just make sure you look on the device sdcard for the backups.

I have looked into these folders and found nothing. I have used File manager and Astro File with no luck finding this folder. I went back into the Samsung tool kit to see if it will allow me to delete those files on the phone put no luck there either. thanks again for your assistance.

thanks but I still cannot find the back up. I have used the samsung tool kit to create the nandroid back ups but now I dont know how to find it to delete. in the toolkit it does not provide an option to delete back ups from the phone unless I maybe misunderstanding the option available. i have installed rom manager and there i can create nandroid backups by going into the recovery page. I cannot flash roms because of the space limitations. I want to delete these back ups on the phone and just leave it on the computer so that i can start flashing roms thru rom manager.
I do not have an external SD card because its still in the mail. Thanks for all your help!

I just went into the CWM recovery mode and located the 2 nandroid backups I created but still could not delete any of them. All my file explorers does not have any nandroid folders and the CWM folder is still empty. Am I missing a particular setting that is not allowing me to see the backups?

What file explorer are you using? I prefer es file explorer [free], make sure you set the root settings to r/w, for giggles. It should be listed as internal sd card or sdcard01, probably the prior; I forget what its called on tw. Just verify for clockworkmod folder, and should list your device id, and the backups inside.

You are the MAN teh roxxorz, adjusted the root settings for es file explorer and was able to free up 4gb of space (nandroid BU) Thank you so much! Now I do not have to unroot, do a factory wipe just to delete excess backups!!

[Q] HELP! Need to restore a backup

so i backed up all my stuff on clockwork, (created a boot.img, cache.ext4. data.ext4, nandroid.md5, recovery.img, and system.ext4 files)
transferred it to my computer.
I got a new nexus..and want to install all these files, but i have no idea, Clockwork does not notice them in restore or anything.
how can i use this backup i created from clockwork?

anyone? noone?

Did you put the back up to the correct folder in your new phone? The files you mentioned should be in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/anything/.

Not sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/anything, its sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. Your nandroid folder should be copied to the backup folder. If it's not showing up it could be possible that you have just failed to actually transfer it to your phone

I mean something like /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-01-09.01.02.03.04/data.ext4.tar

[Q] Renaming nandroid backups

With trying new roms, daily now it seems, is it possible to rename nandroid backups to something that makes more sense then just a date/time stamp like the name of rom/kernel?

Usually it doesn't matter as long as there's no special characters but I've tried it before and always get an md5 sum mismatch I just write down the date and the name of the rom

You need to use ROM Manager for this, then it will work with or without ROM Manager in CWM 5.0.2.7.

I usually put the backups in folders with meaningful names. I have to move them back to the proper location before restoring.
Never tried rom manager to do this though.

I was able to rename my backups with es file explorer just renamed it something like CM7_33 and it restored just fine

Sometimes that will work for me also... most of the time I will get an md5 sum error when I rename them though... like biggoron said the easiest way is to write them down somewhere... or as (insert name here) said you can put them in a seperate folder with the name and then move them back before restoring them....

I had the md5 mismatch too. It seems you can rename as long as you don't put any spaces. I have been renaming mine CM7N##beforeCM9blahblah and it still works. If I put spaces in, then md5 mismatch

Thanks, I renamed some of them using ROM manager and the one I tried worked.

I tried twice to do it manually, no spaces and always got the md5 error. My backups are too important so I only use ROM manager as it makes sure the MD5 is correct.

Yup, this is the main reason I use rom manager, to name my backups to keep track of them easier. The nightlies for cm7 in rom manager don't hurt either..

I was actually trying to restore a backup which had an altered name and the recovery kept prompting error.
I had to rename the prefix back to BCDEARS in order for it to restore.
I think the prefix is important because it's a code to the kind of content that was actually backed up.

New CWM Backup Question

With the new backup format of blop files with 6.0.1.2, I'm wondering if the folder name under backup needs to be the same as it was generated?
The timestamp is wrong and new of mine where 1970 and i renamed them but they refused to restore sating MD5 checksum error.
Can the folders within the /clockworkmod/backup folder be renamed? Not changing anything else just correcting the date so i can see what date i made the backups.

I know older versions of CWM would give a md5 error if there are spaces in the backup names. Do you have spaces?

[Q] Clockworkmod backup wont delete

Hello,
I wanted to change my kernel today, back to stock, so I tried to recover a previous backup I had from clockworkmod. But when I tried to recover it said "Md5 mismatch". So I went to Youtube to figure out why this was, I followed the instructions but there is no file path for my backups. I tried all of the different file paths "/data" that was empty, "/mnt/shell/" and that was empty as well, as well as a few other file paths. I eventually gave up looking for the backup and decided to erase the backup I made. But when I tried to delete it it said "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." I tried renaming it something else but it still says the same thing. Anyone know what I can do here, I just want this file off of my phone. Any help would be much appreciated!
Extra info. When I made the backup I decided to rename it as "5-14(Before custom kernel) but when I got the prompt to change name, I tried changing it to a valid name. Now the name is stuck?

I renamed the folder on my PC and it worked fine. But nothing changed. I looked in ES file explorer and folder name is still "download" and wont change

May be some problem with rom manager.Try renaming using "root explorer". If you want to get your stock kernal you can flash it using kernal flasher.

rename the folder that contains all backuped files (without space). put that folder in another folder named "backup". put backup folder in another folder named "clockworkmod". put clockworkmod folder in data/media using any root explorer (enable mount option in setting). try to restore

I used the root browser included in rom toolbox and that seemed to work. Thank you for your replies! I truly appreciate it

Hi,
Yesterday i made a backup using ROM manager v5.5.3.7 (free)
For some reason i made a second backup by accident, and something went wrong.(probably lack of disk space)
I now have 2 backups, i would like to delete one. (since i'm running short on disk space)
Tried too delete it but i got the "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." error.
I tried everything provided in this thread without any succes. (sorry for replying on this kinda old thread)
Anyone has an idea how to help me out?
Running CM11 (nightly) with stock kernel CM.

Nevermind, went into recovery and deleted the corrupted one!
