Hey All,
I saw a guide on here that was used to change the minimum connection settings for the 4G. It was supposed to give you a better signal.
I searched and couldn't find it anywhere, can someone point to it.
Also have any of you used this and did it help? FYI I am on the absolute 4G border and can get 1 bar in half my house and none in the other half. I am hoping to help it out a little.
Thanks all,
Force
It's in the general section

It did help just a little. It basically gave me 4G in some spots where I wasn't getting it before. No real speed increase though, for me anyways.
You guys are awesome, thanks, I am just looking to get it in the other half of the house, so this should be perfect. Thanks again

I've noticed when I'm at work, where I get little to no service, when I pull up a web page, or anything else that pushes for data, I get a slight to moderate boost in signal while said tasks are being executed. My problem is that I also get very little service inside my house, but I always have it on the charger close to a window - which does help some. Now from what I've read and understand the battery can actually be pushed to increase signal up to a significant amount, as I've noticed at work, and even while using GPS in what are usually dead zones for me. Now I'm not too keen on how it all works, so I figured I would ask anyways... So finally here's my question - Since I always have my phone on the charger at home, I'm not worried about draining the battery. So shouldn't there be a way for an app to push the battery constantly to boost the signal while the phone is charging? Sorry if this is a clearly dumb idea, I'm sure there's a reason it won't work, but I thought I would throw it out there.
No idea what the duck u r thinking

Just an idea based on observations I've made over the years. Figured I'd get a more elaborate response than that. Like I said, I don't know much about how the antenna works, but I was hoping to find a reason why this wouldn't work.
Technically it's not possible.
Let's keep in mind that FCC has regulations on the maximum output power for each class of devices such as a cellular phone.
Also sometimes a voice communication signal (1xRTT) is not always same level as data signal (EvDO) at the same physical location due to many factors. Also we are not sure when the signal indicator bars are displayed, which signal it's displaying at which moment. That could explain the boost you saw on your phone.
Just keep in mind, a software is not able to modify a phone's signal.
Much better, that makes sense. Thanks man!
Have you tried a signal booster antenna sticker?

You can get them on ebay for about $3 for 6 pack. Many people have mixed feelings about these. As for me, I have one in my Evo. I just noticed a gain of one bar only. Still, one bar is better than none.

There is a reason people have mixed results. It's the placebo effect. There is no reason that covering your phone in metal would help.
Theres a thread on here somewhere about the air rave(sp?), I think it was in general. Guys with bad service at home were calling sprint, and getting one for free. It uses wifi to boost your cell signal.
I remember seeing a thread to tweak the 4G settings to lower the minimum signal strength the phone will connect to. I thought it was in the Android development forum, but I haven't had much luck finding it. If someone could provide a link, I'd appreciate it.

add it to your thread subscriptions
also, don't forget that changing these settings can vastly affect your battery life

Thanks. Added it to my subscriptions. I sit in a cube, with a charger at my desk. No worries . I have low signal strength with 4G (only the 4G icon is lit, none of the arcs), and I can get it sometimes, and other times, it just cuts out. I'd like it to cut out less.
Hey guys, First time poster but not exactly new here. I finally got around to Rooting my phone and replacing the ROM with CM7. I'm in love with CM7 and I haven't had any problems with it except for the Reception. The 3G and 4G seem to be duking it out for control over my phone and its killing my battery, at least think that's whats killing my battery. I tried to adjust the APN settings but it slightly worked the signal still alternating between 4g,3g, and Edge. Sometimes it seems that the 4G only kicks in when needed, but that was not the case because i was trying to browse the internet and it kept jumping around again and stopped on edge Im hardly getting any 4G . The Wifi is working fine though. Anyone else having this problem. Im sorry if im reposting anything >.> but i really have been looking for help for the past 2 days and have found nothing if there is a fix or patch can you point me in the right direction?
try flashing a new radio?
+1 for new radio. Over the past week I have been exploring different radio. I started with 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26 which came with my phone, jumped to 12.52.60.25_26.08.04.30 which most people find to be best for them but this was worse for me (speed was significantly worse, signal slightly better), and finally tried the newest one, 12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03. For me the newest one is by far the best in terms of speed and signal. But of course which is best for you depends on your location and what not. Thanks hopefully this will solve my issue if i can figure it out.
I cannot find this guide, I have looked EVERYWHERE through the Evo forums. I had it pulled up about 2 weeks ago and was looking at it. it was a thread explaining how you go into hiddenmenu (##3282#), enter your msl, and change a bunch of 4g settings to get better 4g (quicker connections, less drops, more speed) and I cannot for the life of me find this thread. Anyone know where it's at? I didn't try it cause I was on cm7 at the time. huge thanks!

All good dude...at least it's not like your asking how to root and claim that it's no where to be found lol
I am on the fringe of 4G here... I can not get 4G at home but I can if I go outside on my deck. One of these days I am going to try this out to see how well it works.
oh my god no haha, I'm not that much of a noob. Just a little bit.
4g coverage in Boise is pretty good, it fluctuates like crazy though. Now, I can connect within 3 seconds or less, so it's much less frustrating.
Aug 1st Time Warner cable was installed next door, my 4G blew and I got a new phone. Now my speed is only about 1Mb and looks as if the phone is not stable or the speed tests are having a difficult time getting data. I took my phone down the street a less than a block where I could achieve 6 to 10Mb possibly even more.
I think it is TWC but it could be an Edison smart meter or other.
Is there a noise app that could help me pinpoint the noise source?
Should I call Sprint?
Any good ideas on how to handle this issue?
Thanks
That's something I would like to know as well, I have a train yard next to my house and can't get 4g anywhere near it but it works a few blocks away.

I can say that there are 10 warehouse/offices which all have smart meters in the rear. To the best of my knowledge these meters are transmitting a whopping 5W @ 900MHZ 24x7
Is 13MB a realistic number or is noise making 4G look hotter than it really is? Any othe experiences or ideas.

This is getting really weird. On the roof I I get 1O-13Mb with speedtest.net. As soon as I start tethering to a laptop I only get a really crappy/unstable 1MB (starts high but does not hold) and get an abnormally high upload of 1.5+MB via DSLR flash speed test.
If I tether from inside on the front of the building near the roof I get 2.5-3Mb. This number is pretty consistent with the speedtest.net results on the phone.

Do these meters mess up 4G a tether ing computer or? Is 13MB a realistic number or is noise making 4G look hotter than it really is? Any othe experiences or ideas. I have been trying to keep with usb tether in an attempt to lower noise.

I remember reading just a few days ago that someone was having a similar issue when they started to tether. They fixed the speed issue buy setting up a proxy on the PC and they got their full 4G speeds while tethering. It was 4G over WIFI when they had the issue but maybe the same steps will help you out as well.

Also, I use to work for TWCable. If the tech did a crappy job of the install and did not put fittings on the cables properly and used wrong equipment those cable lines can leak quite a bit of signal. They have techs that drive around once a month with a special detector and GPS to pick up where they have leaks in the aera and then report them to their supervisors, then they end up heading out to fix them if they are bad enough. That stuff can interfere with the bands that emergency vehicles/planes/phones use and they have to legally keep that stuff under control. So you could call TWCable and let them know they need to come out and check for signal leaks.
Video is a nosy ***** but I can not be 100% sure if it is the video, smart meter or other. I can say that I started having proplems on Aug 1 the day that TWC was installed next door. The thing about TWC is it is somewhat shielded even when leaking and a smart meter is not. I am tempted to put a 75 ohm terminator on the cable to see if that helps.
I have been tethering for over a year w/o problems w/o proxy. I could be wrong, but feel that the proxy simply helps hold an internet connection when you have a weak single and changing IP addresses. I thought I solved any need for that by placing my phone way above the building. That is also a really old thread with people on sense roms and CM7 is typically quite solid.
Thanks for the good information. Do we know what frequency TWC operates on?

Its alot. every channel is a 6MHz increase. So say channel 32 is 20MHz then channel 33 is at 26MHz. Its been a few years since I worked for them. I dont really remember what frequency they run on. I know some are in the 10's other in the 100's. I just tried Googling it, but couldn't find a current list.
Honestly I would just give them a call and let them know ever since they came out that you have been having issues. They'll send a tech out to take a look.
