My wife lovingly purchased one of the 32GB Micro SD's from Ebay as a gift for me. It was from an American seller who swore that every card was tested and verified as good. I am on my second card and I suppose Aria's just don't like generic 32GB cards made (ripped off) in China and sold in the states. Almost every file that I copy to the card (through the phone's USB) comes out corrupt....if it copies at all...I will try to listen to an Alkaline Trio song and end up with splices of Avenged Sevenfold in it. I am going to purchase an SD card reader and see if copying files directly to the card (cutting out the phone as the "middle man") will help...but I doubt it will. All I can say is BEWARE!!!
If anyone has any ideas, they will be most appreciated!
Care to link to the specific one you got, or tell us what markings are on the SD card itself?
There are a lot of fake SD cards out there. Even if it has a name brand on it, it could be fake. Usually they are functional but pretty crappy performance-wise. I would probably avoid buying SD cards from anywhere besides reputable retail/online stores.

Return the 32 GB card and purchase a good card from Amazon. I recommend the SanDisk 8 or 16 gb card (class 4 or better).
When you buy from eBay, you're taking a chance. Especially if the product comes from China.
Look on the bright side - your phone is fine - SD cards can be easily replaced...
.
Been there done that. Buy only from a reliable source. I bought the same thing and same place. Good music I see. My old band "already dead" played with avenged back in the day here in socal. Good luck with sd card.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought my card from Buy.com but it was fulfilled by third party. I ran h2testw to verify it was a hacked 2GB card to look like a 32GB card. I contacted buy.com and the direct seller and he paypal refunded me the purchase no questions asked.
h2testw basically writes verifies in 1GB blocks. the hacked card looks like it writes fine, but when you try to access the files you get corrupted data which sounds like what you had.
Buy another sd card

well, i wouldn't go straight out and generalize all chinese made products as crappy and cheap. I mean like, 75+% of everything in your house is probably chinese made.

I was not referring to the country of manufacture.
The product itself was shipped from China and was described as a "rip-off" type of product.
I always suggest buying products from a reputable dealer and manufacturer. You may pay more, but you will most likely have better customer service and a better product.
...
Could you quote the seller's name? Hope you got it fixed by now
I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience. That is usually why I stay away from eBay and China as a lot of their products tend to be poorly constructed and have issues with operation (many are counterfeit).
When buying memory cards and batteries, I tend to side on "Name brand" and purchase from trustworthy sites to ensure my product is not a counterfeit.
Hope you got your problem sorted!

My mistake, Amazon always throws me for a loop with similar deals...but manages to slip full size sdhc cards in there. $149 is the cheapest I have seen for a 32GB MicroSD.
Seems there are not that many out there below $200 from reliable sources. I'd only suggest Ebay if it's someone you've bought from prior and have faith that they're an honest seller.
This looks like a good deal from a reputable company:

Ouch.. I am 95% sure that you just bought a fake. You may want to try to contact San Disk to try to verify authenticity.
Here is a wiki that shows the physical differences between a real card and a fake. If you are able to confirm that the card is fake you may be able to get your $150 back, especially if you paid with a credit card. Although the physical differences are negligible, I have had all three fake Hong Kong sd cards that I bought turn up as duds after 3-6 months of use.
Yeah the fake ones are all over the place due to the hong kong shuffle (where they sell a factory rather than refit it to produce new products). QC goes down but realistically they are the same product. But they do tend to fail and warranties are non-existent, so watch out for that.
But the comment about waiting for a class 6 card... here was my deal. when you read the reviews about the different classes of cards you will find that most of the time the sandisk and really high-end name brand class 2 cards will out perform the cheap class 6 cards. Yeah yeah I know they are given those ratings based on their speeds but in the real world a lot of those class 2 cards will get 8-12mbps speeds in their real world reviews by cnet and others. Just throwing that out there. I myself will stick with class 2 since i couldnt even notice a tiny bit of speed difference in both my hero and evo when switching to class 6 from class 2.

regardless, you should do a check to verify its authenticity. there is a website (in red text and white bg- dunno the name) that you should go see.
DL their software and run it to ensure its not some 8GB hidden with 32GB written on it to cover up.
ummmmm
Ok you can keep spending money on ridiculously overpriced SD cards or you could buy them from Newegg.com I just bought a 32gb Kingston sdhc card Class 6 for 125..... I've bought lots of computer parts from them over the years and they are a great electronic parts site.
I was wondering if anybody had tried one of these in the TP2 yet? Do they work?
they should. its microsdhc. too expensive for me to buy right now but when they come down in price i will be buying one.

I notice that Erwincomp are around the $150 mark, whereas the eBay seller was around $40. Must the eBay ones (there's more than one) be a complete fake??
the british listings wont ship to america but theres alot from china (charinging in aud $) that ship to america. i bought one for about $26 (usd). ill let you know if its the real deal.
yall are very braves souls...im too scared to try a cheap-o card...
well, they are labeled as sandisk cards, which are not cheap-o. they are the inventors of transflash which is the first name of microsd. ebay canceled my purchase saying its probably someone who just wants my money and wont give me the storage card. paypal contacted my bank and told them not to move any money. its no loss i guess but i was looking forward to finally having a 32gb card even though i most likely would have never gotten it. i had skipped buying a 16gb card hoping soon a 32gb card would come out and i waited forever and 8gb isnt doing it. i got the 8gb card free with my touch pro. will i ever have a 32gb card?
I just tried my luck on one of these and it was a mistake:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230496569920
The card looked fine, so I copied about 16Gb of data to it (on a Windows machine). When I put the card into the phone most of the files weren't visible. I then put the card back into the PC and they were invisible there as well.
Looks like these are fakes - oh well, let's see how I get on getting a refund....
i did buy one. ebay had canceled the account and bid but payment still went through. apparently it was shipped but i checked the tracking information and it hasnt moved in quite a while so i might just give up. if it comes in, ill let you know if its legit or not. you might want to try reformatting the card. there was a nice hp tool that does it properly. i reformat all new cards, it saves from having problems in the long run.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool.shtml try that.
eBay seller smithadamsmith has Verizon branded sealed Sandisk 32GB microSDHC's (the only sane way to buy any right now) for $105 shipped 2 day UPS.
Mine works great in my Tilt 2, speed class 2 not as underspec'd as their 16GB cards, but plenty fast enough for 1.87GB Avatar movies and running Android 2.2 off card directly.
yeah its horrible. my pics and vids were saved to storage card. almost every time i tried to save a video or take a pic it would freeze up. it was a no name so i cant speak for the sandisk but im assuming its speed class is just too low
Does anyone know of any good deals for 32Gb cards delivered to the UK? The best I can find is Sandisks on Amazon for £81.
The eBay seller I mentioned above ships internationally.
http://imgur.com/Yoatf&5DBj8 it arrived! and it works. i bought it on ebay, ebay canceled my bid, killed the auction and the seller. but i was charged and it was shipped. 2 and a half weeks later, here it is. it needed a formatting and i tried letting windows do it but i ended up resorting to the hp usb disk wipey tool thingy. but after that it worked perfectly. i was going to just dump my old card on to the new one but i actually went through and deleted old and duplicate cabs, backups, and other crap and got it down from 7.5gb to 2.5gb so i have almost 30gb free.
one thing gives me wonders. the auction and packaging says its a class 2 but the card says class 4. im not really worried though cause it works.

Have you checked that it will take 30Gb of data?
yep. i tried loading a bunch of topgears on it. but i had to stop because it was taking a while and the space never seems to run out. but if i ever have 2 days solid to watch top gear on my phone. ^_^
Filling the card reveals the TRUE capacity of cheap Chinese cards, which too often will register as claimed capacity, UNTIL their actual capacity reached shows deceitful trick with far less available.
I found that I could copy files onto my eBay card without any problems, and the card registered the disk space being used. When I removed the card and re-inserted it most of the files were gone however (although the folders were still there).
I tried reformatting the card but got exactly the same result.
Found this on Ebay, don't know though. It comes out of Shanghai and the price is cheap. I'm more worried about cheap crap wrecking my phone. Anybody try one of these yet?
http://cgi.ebay.com/SanDisk-32GB-mi...gital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item1e5e54d767
it won't wreck your phone, but it will probably die after a few weeks - if that long. If you but it, be prepared to throw away your money at some point and all the data on the card.
SanDisk probably won't warranty it because it is probably counterfeit.
don't think u ever will get it
last 16gb card i bought over ebay was about 7€cheaper then all the rest and i never saw it - got money back by paypal thats why i tried (and he had about 100 positive votings).
this seems to be about 50€ cheaper then a normal 32GB card and he has 0 votings - so he propably tires to get the money and vanish into dust before Paypal can claim the money from him.
would buy something more recent.
I bought a 16gb kingston class 4 on amazon, it was around 45$, and they had a promo that if you signed up for an amazon credit card you get 30$ off your first bill. so bought it and paid it off for 15$.
Honestly, with Froyo coming soon and apps2sd, Id really reccomend investing in a good class 4 or 6. The faster the speed of the card, the faster your phone will be able to pull and push data to it.
Another note, my class 4 can move large files at about 8-9 mb/s, but if there are many small files it will only run about 3 mb/s, so Id really recommend a reputable brand. That is not to say the kingston doesnt work good, just to say one of those cheapo 30$ cards advertising class 6 will probably run much slower and break apart quickly
Good point about the speed issue. Can't wait for Froyo.

Class ratings apply to write speeds not read speeds. Theoretically you can write faster to higher class cards, but this usually applies to direct writes on the device (camcorder recording to card) not USB between phone and PC. The USB copies (PC to phone) may be faster, but you have a additional overhead of the USB bus.
Buy a name brand card. I have an 8Gb Sandisk class 2 and it works great for Camera, camcorder, and anything else i want to do with the phone software. My 1080P camcorder has class 6 cards, but it requires it.
I'd steer clear from buying memory cards/ usb flash drives on eBay. I've seen way too many people get scammed on getting what they thought was a 16gb flash drive and end up with a 128mb stick with 16gb screenprinted on it. These microSD's are no different.

Actually I tested this using the sdhc adapter directly to the SD card slot. so no USB/phone interface interfering here. And again, thats what I was stressing. Buy a name brand card, probably a class 4 or 6 considering the move to froyo.

So you got the same MB/s throughput with the card reader as well as the phone connected to the PC? Still puts the USB bus in the way. EDIT - NM I see what you were measuring.
I wonder what the transfer rate is on the phone - back and forth between internal SD and external SD.
Huh, interesting concept. I dont even know of a way to test that
I bought a 32gig card from China for 18 bucks shipped. 1st time I've been scammed on ebay. It seemed to show up as a 32gig, but the phone wouldn't recognize it and wanted to format it....sure thing I figured. Now it shows as an 8mb card that won't format no matter what I do. I disputed it to paypal after the auction/seller disappeared on ebay, but they want me to send it back to China to refund. I considered this might happen and was willing to risk 20 bucks, but it didn't end up well. The funniest part was that it showed up in Kingston packaging, but the date was 2008. I'm pretty sure 32 gig microSD's didn't even exist in 2008.
Thats terrible!! well good luck getting your money back... Lol so I guess if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Id just stick with trustworthy sellers, brands, and sites, and look for good deals!

I am not sure where you found this - but the official specs call for up to 32GB card:

Many people are using 32GB cards. It is the limit of the SDHC spec, so the 16gb is probably a typo from somewhere.

The only advice you can be given is to purchase from a reliable retailer. Once you get the card, you need to check if it runs as advertised. If it is a class 10, check if it reads and writes at class 10 speeds. If it doesn't, well it is safe to say it is fake.
If the price of the card is more than 15-20% less than the average from the major internet retailers, then I would think twice about it. Also stay away from Off Brands. Stick to SanDisk, Patriot, A Data, etc. Expect to pay anywhere from $60-$100 depending on vendor and class card.
CompUSA has a SanDisk 32GB class 2 for $55. The Patriot 32GB class 10 can be had for $75 ($90 with a $15 rebate)
ONLY buy from authorized retailers, like NewEgg. If you aren't sure if the place you are trying to buy from is authorized, check the manufacturer's site.
NEVER EVER buy memory cards off ebay, even if they claim to be new. It's so easy to take a 2gb card, paint a number 3 on it, and make it look like a 32gb card.
I make sure I stay away from eBay.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah, it's really as simple as buying from a reputable source (not ebay) and following the "if it's too good to be true" principle on price.

i fell for a fake again
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-32GB-Mi...291177?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0d1309e9
the posting looks legit, it even comes with a package, lol
he ships fast, i ordered it friday and it showed up via usps this morning, but i was a fake.
it was a 32GB microsd card for $30
What was fake about it. Was it not really a 32GB card? There are not really any other claims (brand, class, etc) in the posting.
that's obviously a fake. It's not a name brand (and as far as I know, sandisk and kingston are the only two brands with a 32gb card right now). Its in a generic package, and there is no name labels on the card itself.
Again, do NOT buy 32gb cards on ebay, its just not worth it. ONLY buy from authorized retailers.

yes really cheap maybe to cheap but only £20 its got to be worth it to try
That seams too cheap considering memory just isnt sold at that price normally. Just make sure to read the fine print.
This is noted specifically for that sd card. (the other £65 128gb sd card they have for sale doesnt have this warning)
"When these brand new micro SD cards have been fully tested they vary in storage capacity, all cards range from 8GB to 128GB in capacity.. Please note that whilst these cards are brand new and have been shipped to us straight from the factory however they are sold as upgraded cards and therefore the capacity and speed may vary for each card"
Do some searching on the internet. The cards on ebay are cheap because they're fake. When you put them in your computer, they say they have the advertised capacity but they don't.
Also, they are very slow. If you want to be able to use it with the camera, you'll need something that's faster.
if you look at the feedback of those 128Gb cards you will see plenty of negative comments, saying things like constant data loss as cards need to be formatted all the time, not correct size, etc etc. i was looking at them but am sticking with my 32Gb one for now, as there are so many fakes doing the rounds that i would be wary spending 70 quid on one, let along 20 quid....remember.....if it looks too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true
ok well I just ordered a legit 128gb card for £66... will be ordering the phone tomorrow.... I CANT WAIT!!!
I always avoid cheap sd cards as in the past ive had nothing but bad look with them, either cheap knock offs that don't work or just really slow and die within 2 months! I would definitely avoid this seller:good:
