Vodafone Australia warranty repair - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am currently having problems with my desire hd and will like to put my hand set back to normal for warranty purposes..
i have followed the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920876
however i cant seem to check if my radio s-off and also super cid..
i have tried using the radio tool but it says probably connection, i think this is due to not having superpermission? how do i get it back after i put the stock rom?
as my volume rocker button is broken, i can go into bootloader and check if the settings are correct..
is there a way to check? if not will i be ok to obtain warranty?
as i have successful put back the stock rom and also radio
thank you in advance

RUU 1.15 wont flash - waits for bootloader

Hi
I've downloaded an HTC Europe 1.15 RRU that I used before and worked.
Now, however, it wont flash. I just get to the "waiting for bootloader" and then a "connection error". I tried rebooting into bootloader but then the RRU just counts upto 100 and then tells me there is a connection error.
The difference between now and last time is that I've updated my bootloader to Alpha-Rev bootloader and Clockwork Mod Recovery is installed. The phone is rooted and S-OFF as well.
I'm trying to restore the phone to factory condition in preparation for a return to HTC for repair.
I guess I need to resintall some bootloader and recovery mod?? or is that in the RUU?
Any ideas/advice?
Android version 2.2
Baseband 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c
Build 2.29.405.2 CL263770 release-keys
Software: DJ Droid v1.8 (but also tried latest MoDaco, Pinky, CM6 and LeeDroid)
Browser: WebKit 3.1
HBOOT 0.93.0001
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
Clockwork Recovery v2.5.0.7
Why do you want to put the FIRST ever RUU back onto your device? Just download the latest RUU (2.29.405.2) by clicking on my signature. This is assuming your phone in unbranded from the start, if not you'll need to get the RUU for your operator
Er, because I said ...
"I'm trying to restore the phone to factory condition in preparation for a return to HTC for repair"
Factory condition means ANY ROM that was meant for the unit - you don't need to go back to the first!!! So long as you're on an x.xx.405.x ROM you'll be fine!!! LMAO!!!
If you just flash the 2.29.405.2 RUU then you're back to stock so the factory will accept it
bloody hell.
saved me a ****ty weekend there pal.
nice1
cheers
will do this tonight and report back.
My HBOOT is 0.93.001 (flashed using alpha-rev clockword mod install utility). Some older RUUs refuse to load (waiting for bootloader and a reboot to bootloader whilst the RRU is still running - doesnt fix the problem). Appears to be waiting for a special signature from the bootloader. Is your link (RRU) likely to work do youo know ??
If you're currently S-OFF, which I assume you are, then get this file instead:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
It's the same RUU but in ZIP form. Once downloaded remove everything from the name except PB99IMG (so the file is effectively called PB99IMG.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card. Then boot into HBOOT and it will read the ZIP and ask you to continue. Say yes and once done reboot and you'll be back to stock. Then just remove the ZIP from the SD card and away you go!
Word of advice: I was S-OFF and using the N1Table and the first time I ran this it failed on the System partition and got stuck on the white HTC screen. I left it an hour, ran the PB99IMG again and it completed so if you are on anything other than the stock table I'd go back to that first using the file from AlphaRev before running the ZIP
Either way you should be fine
Yeah S-OFF.
I'm okay with the PB99 - used that when creating gold card and downgrading.
The N1Table stuf is new to me. I'll google that now.
Thanks for the tip and link.
Cheers pal.
**EDIT:
Okay, so N1table is the partition table for sram/nvram chips.
I have not knowingly modified these, but in any event will grab
the stock HTC table just in case. I can only assume the hangup
is generated because the partition table is hardcoded in the RRU
rather than being read in by the RRU - or something like that.
Anyway, thanks once again pal.
[Q] The phone was purchased on the UK Orange network although no branding on the phone (orange square logo and orange applications). The phone was locked to the Orange network and the settings SLIGHTLY different than the unbranded phone my bro has. Will I need to get hold of the Orange RRU before sending to HTC for repair (as in will the IMEI number be registered to Orange or something)?
If it had the Orange ROM on it then you will need that before sending it back...now, an Orange RUU has never surfaced BUT I might know someone getting one today so if I hear anything I'll post back on here.
If you needed a gold card to flash the stock RUU then you will need the Orange RUU
With regards to S-OFF, unless you downloaded and flashed a new table you will still be on the stock Desire one
I used alpha-rev' s-off utility (cant recall the link and didnt save it) but unsure whether the table has been modified. I'll just download the HTC one. Simples.
DAMM. I thought I may need the Orange RUU. Yes, the stock RRU wouldnt install I recall; required a gold card and a bootloader downgrade as I remember. ****!
I've been searching for Orange RUU for months to no avail.
As I said, hold out a day or so as I think someone might be getting it from Orange
Leave it with me...
Acknowledged
My gracious thanks in advance.
Good luck!
Eddy if you get a stock Orange RUU you will be god . Hope you get it.

It won't be me but apparently someone is getting an Orange techie to debrand his phone and he's getting the RUU in case he needs to go back to stock...as soon as I hear something I'll update

Hang on; dya mean its possible to create an RUU or backup of a branded Orange phone - as indeed I had before I rooted et.al. ? Oh no, could I have created one - surely not ?

Nice1 Eddy. The ZIP did the trick. The RRU method didnt work but I expected that as it was looking for an original HBOOT signature.
So, back to HTC stock. Not sure whether they would accept it for repair though given that it was sold as a branded Orange handset. Can they check?
Well, I will give this a go. The reason for the repair is that I've installed god knows how many custom ROMs and:
1. wifi doesnt always work.
2. Data connection errors.
3. Random reboots.
4. 90% reboot when navigating in the car.
5. Failure to answer some incoming calls.
6. Sometimes outgoing calls carry no voice modulation (they cant hear me)
different problems depending on ROMs.
So, lets see how the stock does before I decide to send back/or not.
Thanks again Eddy.
No, the bloke at Orange is going to give the guy getting it debranded the Orange RUU so he can go back to stock if he needs to...
HTC can tell, and my still fix it and put the Orange ROM back on it, but they may also turn around and refuse to fix it due to having a different ROM to the original
You can get to stock Orange with a very complicated method. After debranding you would root the phone. Then apply the backup on my thread. You then remove the superuser.apk with adb. You then flash the two updates orange released this unroots your phone back to stock.

Nice1 Ste, however, mine is SLCD not Amoled. The nandroid is from an Amoled handset. Wont work with mine. Nice idea tho.
Anyone have a nandroid from an Orange set??

[Q] Return to stock

hi guys, can some please help me on this. im a bit stock. i am on tmobile network and have a DHD and i would like to return to stock. i have gone to the HTC Desire HD files but i dont know which one to use for me to return back to stock. can anyone tell me which one it is or post a link for me please as i dont want to flash the wrong one. I really need it as i need to send it back for repair. I really need it asap. Also i have 1 problem, my volume up button is stuck and when i turn my phone on, it vibrates 3 times and the orange light just flashes. is there a way to sort this out?
Since you want to send it to repair, ask them to repair the "stuck" volume button problem.
here is the link to go back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864054
Here is also a little shorter version from jkoljo's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?t=857537):
"To go back to S-ON:
•Flash stock ROM (RUU)
•Temproot using Visionary
•Use my tool, do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID if you had a branded device, see second post)
•Enjoy your factory-state phone"
And here is the RUU for Telus DHD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932771 (Notice that I'm not sure if this is the recommended version for your phone but this is the only one I could find with a quick search)
@hedayat7
Thanks for exactly copying one of my posts but it isn't the Telus RUU that he needs
@Rawdi
Was your phone branded when you got it?

i dont know if it was. how do i know if it was? please help me. i love my DHD too much for it to turn into a coaster. if i send it back to tmobile, even though i have rooted it, does it void the warranty?
What exactly did you do when you flashed a custom rom (assuming you did)?
@Hawks556 , hehe .. very lazy to type new post, found yours and copy paste.
btw, credit to Hawks556 . hehe

nothing, i have the leedroid rom and what i did was a restart as it was playing up a bit. when i did the restart, the 3 vibrates started and the orange light started to flash. i went in to CWM and did a key test and the volume up button did not respond so i take it is stuck. the way that i go into CWM was i plugged in my charger and the CWM comes up. i really dont know what i can do. also i dont want tmobile to know that i rooted my DHD as i heard it voids the warranty. any ideas on what i can do?
I meant how did you flash it? Did you have to use a goldcard etc? Did your phone have any t-mobile logos anywhere (eg bootanimation) when it was running stock rom? If not then you can do this:
- Flash stock ROM (RUU http://xdafil.es/DesireHD/RUU/RUU_A....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe)
- Temproot using Visionary
- Use my tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537), do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID, should be T-MOB005 for t-mobile uk)
Above steps were provided by jkoljo
Also messing with the software shouldn't really void the warranty because the defective volume button is solely a physical fault. There could ofcourse be a dispute of somekind, but in the end they have no right to refuse warranty service.
This could though become o problem if you have any software related warranty issues in the future.

[Q] Reverting for repair

Hey,
I know there's already a thread on this but I wanted to ask which order I need to carry out the process and any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to return my DHD as there are problems with the speaker. I have a new radio, eng-off, s-off and a custom ROM. Which ones do I revert first in order to return to stock without messing up the phone?
Thanks !
You may be able to get away with sending the phone back even if it's not on a stock ROM. I have read other posts on here where people have sent their phones in for repair with custom ROM's and HTC have not been bothered about it, and whenever you send your phone in for any type of repair - they will always wipe the phone and re-install the phone with the latest stock ROM.
From what you have described about the problems you have got with your phone, I imagine the first thing HTC will do before doing any physical repairs on the phone is to re-flash the phone with the latest stock ROM to see if it fixes any of the problems on the phone.
My DHD has been back to HTC twice for the same camera blur problem and I had previously rooted the phone, Radio S-OFF and installed a custom ROM but then I did revert it back to stock with Radio back to S-ON right before I sent it back to HTC for the repair. The first time it went back HTC, all they did was re-flash the phone with the latest stock ROM and sent the phone back to me and hoped that it cured the problem. Within 10 minutes of getting the phone back I knew that the problem was still present and then within a couple of days it was back with HTC again for the same problem and that is when they finally physically repaired the phone.
Edit - from what I have just found out, it doesn't matter which ROM you have installed but the most important thing is to make sure that you revert the phone's Radio back to S-ON before sending it back.
Liam
Thanks, so I just have to get radio S-on back? What about eng-on ? I used the two tools to do it originally, so I'll just have to use them again ?

Yes that's right, just use the tool to revert them back to ON. When I did the process and after I used the tool to revert them back to ON, I just downloaded a stock RUU ROM that you run through Windows and then the program re-flashes your phone back to the stock ROM.
Liam
i would back to stock, just in case... i really don't think htc bothers with it, because it's way more simple to fix the phone than fight against the client.
but, since with the original RUU is very easy to back it to stock, i don't see why you shound't do...
regards!
Ok thanks. I have got radio back to S-ON but I still have eng-off. Will this matter? I can't seem to find out how to revert it back to on.

Did you read the instructions in my tool's thread? It says pretty clearly there that you should run stock RUU
I've been thinking this for a while, since I have an issue with volume rockers (they aren't as outside the chassis as a friend's) from the very first moment I bought.
Does anybody have this issue? or think it's a hardware problem HTC would repair?

When you install an official RUU you revert to original factory state. I believe bootloader,root,ENG/SOFT-OFF etc... dissapears

almost everything desappear by flashing original RUU, except Radio S-OFF, that can be changed by jkoljo's tool.
but, since you lose the root when you flash RUU, you will root your phone again with visionary, after that, use the jkoljo's tool to get s-on, unroot and uninstall visionary. done, just it.

Anyway, thanks for linking post. I'll talk a bit there

returning to stock

Hello All,
my desire hd recently decided to break down (the volume rocker wont work, wifi and bluetooth).. althought its still under warranty and i would like to restore it back to normal before i bring it back to vodafone..
however since the volume rocker wont work, how can i restore back to stock rom? or am i really sc**wed? i believe i am, unless proven wrong?
thank you in advance
You don't really need the volume rocker to get back to stock. Here's some short instructions from this thread. Remember to use a branded RUU if your phone was branded when you got it.

sorry to disturb you again
but to restore the stock rom, i need to get into bootloader,
i cant select stuff from the boot loader as the volume rocker doesnt work?
is there a way i can get around this?
thanks
If I remember correctly there's no need to get to the bootloader. You run the RUU on the computer with the phone connected to HTC Sync.

That is true. Another option is to connect your device to a PC, get my radio s-off tool (for example), go to it's folder in command line and type command "adb.exe reboot bootloader".
If all you want is to get into recovery, you can use Rom Manager to boot you into recovery.

[Q] How to S-ON and unroot the Desire with blank Screen?

Hi guys i took my Desire with me to a Outdoor trip and guess what now my phone doesn't work
I looked around a little bit and found that actually i don't get something on the screen its just blank but touchscreen works i can unlock the phone and the PC sees my cell.
Now I want to send it to warranty service but I don't want to lose my warranty so I want to S-on and unroot my cell.
I think this process would be pretty easy (since rooting and S-off where easy steps ) but now that I don't see anything I need your help guys.
My Desire:
Pvt-3 S-oFF
Clockworkmod Recovery
MIUI XJ
If someone could tell me the steps and the button I must press (like press five times down then enter...)
Guys from Germany how is the HTC service did they check for thins like root to void your warranty or would they replace my phone without asking?
And Guys from Turkey if my phone would be replaced I would get a new IMEI can I change this IMEI with my old registered IMEI or do I have to reregister my phone wich would suck (how I hate Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu)
I had my HTC diamond at the German HTC service due to a broken usb port. Warranty repair was refused because of a modified bootloader. At least I didn't had to pay for the failure analysis, after several mails I had sent them. Usb port was broken because of too high current and not a software mod btw.
Still you can try. Maybe fortune is on you side.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
just do it like it is explained in the guide just do it blind
1.flash downgrader hboot
2.run ruu upgrade
should be really easy
