I tried using this library update (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935017) by -={antibyte}=- to obtain 720p fullscreen recording on my Moto Defy. Result: Camcorder crashes on startup. Quick switch to CIF mode (had to do this from the Camera app) and it records but switch back to VGA and it crashes.
Stupid me forgot to backup before I did this so I need the default media_profiles.xml found in /system/etc and the default libraries found in /system/lib.
Yes, I am a noob. I switched from iOS to Android just last month.

Actually that topic talks about 720p playback and fullscreen 848x480 recording (so not 720p recording), question:
did you just copy and cut the libs?
or did you flash the .zip from here?
If the .zip was flashed then you actually have a modified blurcamera.apk in your /system/app folder. Replacing blurcamera.apk with the original one should be enough to fix the problem.
If you're on froyo 2.2.1 you can take this one.

I have this problem as well. Have been searching around for an hour for this fix but have not found one yet. I didn't backup either. I want to avoid doing a full restore if possible.
Anyone out there?
Bump! I need a fix. Even standard VGA would be fine. Anyone have a .zip to update via recovery??? I would like to have my camcorder back :-(
I have the same problem.
When I select VGA recording Camcorder crashes at beginning,
only works with CIF.

Thats because of the build.prop. What you can do is extract your original ROM nandroid (should be able to find it somewere on the forum) and then take the files out of there.
Thank you for the suggestion.
Now I flashed the phone with RSD Lite and everything is back to normal.
this is becasue the internal camera app doesnt support the high res modes, so just dl a replacement app that does. the updated 720p also seems to break vga mode, I assume somethign to do with the compression mode used? I had exactly the same problem on mine, I never really used the camcorder app anyway so i just didnt bother with the 720p files when i reflashed it recently.
but yeah, download another camcorder app and all is well!

Is it possible to have the MIUI camera app in the CM7 nightlies ? It is way better than the stock crappy android camera. Thanks in advance.
MIUI is based on cm7. So it should be. Extract the camera.apk from miui-rom.zip in /system/app and install it.
I tried it but it cannot be installed this way. Any other options ? I also tried manually pasting tha apk in the system/app, setting the permisions and rebooting, but even though it appears in the drawer, it gives FC.

Why can't you install it?
It does not work that way. Missing some framework files from the MIUI Rom.
But Honestly - where did you see that MIUI camera is better?
I'm using MIUI Rom, with Android Camera, because the video recording on the MIUI camera is piss-poor quality. Photos are almost the same. no big differrence.
Anyways, the latest working I found is v17 from 1.4.22:
Miui Camera
Hey, after flashing few ROM I saw that not all of them have the CM camera app (with the advanced settings, specially the Power shutter feature).
I tried adding it manually to AOSPA (removed old GoogleGallery.apk and moved Gallery2.apk to system/app),
but I didn't worked out (Gallery worked, Camera FC).
Is there a solution for this?
Update - on vanilla rootbox it worked. Maybe I did something wrong on PA..
(or it just not supported on PA?)
SOLVED!
SlimRom's Gallery2.apk is working!!!!

Thanks sarkar1990!
There is a flashable zip somewhere on xda I will post a link if I can find it again
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
And it works on every ROM?
Umm.. Anyone know what files are related to the camera app?
Maybe I'll replace them with the files from CM.
...?
No one knows?
Should I ask on another forum?
I want to have the same camera
I'm also using Vanilla Rootbox (4.0) and I still have the stock camera with stock options - has anybody an idea on how to fix this?
On rootbox I think you can just download the gallery2.apk (download CM and only unzip this app, system>app).
Then remove (or move) old gallery (GoogleGallery.apk).
Move gallery2.apk, change permissions (like other system apps) and restart.
If you can't move it, you need to mount you system partition (r/w), search Google (it's simple).
What I think problem with aospa is that it's missing libraries because it's mostly stock.

It works perfectly - thanks a lot. In case anybody out there is as new to it as I am: Use ES Explorer and use it's Root Explorer - it's as simple as this
That's exactly what I used to install CMFileManager
Solved!
------------------
Well, it didn't really solved.
When I click on the power button the device lock, not taking a picture.
I guess there is still something missing.
I'm having a real terrible go at this. I somehow removed the original google gallery apk through ES File Explorer and Installed Gallery2.apk but it crashes every time I try to open it.
I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus running CM10.1 RC3. I know I must be missing a step or something. Help please.
As I said in another thread, I don't know how to solve it. After updating aospa slimroms camera crashes too.

i have downloaded the version on google play with this website

Yes it works but no button to flash on / off. Some crash with some mode.
the app works well but can you update the base?
here's the latest version

thanks mate
btw video recording doesn't work
...I think I was able to get at least manual mode working by looking at the files the app checks for. The app wants a file to exist that defines specific "ASUS" compatibility, otherwise it goes to a base level of compatibility (without manual mode). Here's how to get it:
0) Download and install the latest ASUS Camera app
1) Download a stock ROM/something based off stock
2) Extract it, and copy out "/system/framework/bspcapability.jar" (this is the file the camera app tries to open on the Zenfone)
3) Copy that file, with the same name, to the same location on your phone running CM12.1
4) For good measure, clear the ASUS Camera app's data
5) Once it re-opens, it should show manual mode. Manual shutter and focus at least work for me on the latest CM12.1, although long-term stability isn't tested.
It's a janky approach, liable to break, but since the camera blobs have the special software support and the AOSP camera_capability.xml files in the project declare support for asus_pro_mode (or something), it's easy to see why it works. Good luck!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-8H1-3K_MSmanFTWTQ3VTg0Ylk/view?usp=sharing the bspcapability.jar from WW .97.
Thanks mate, stock camera is now fully functional.
Great! Manual Mode is working perfectly! But... GIF doesnt. Maybe some libs are needed.
I've started this thread because this one isn't updated by OP quite long time.
What's this?
Two most useful moto apps which you can install just like normal apps. No root or recovery required. I personally have tested apps on euphoria rom, everything works perfect.
update: unfortunately you can't install gallery on stock rom without root. For doing that you have to delete the original gallery first.
What's the difference between this apps and the original ones?
I've modded them a bit. See the list of features bellow. Besides that package names are different (com.nomotorola.camera and com.nomotorola.MotGallery2).
List of features:
Camera:
Advanced settings (little ladybug icon in the right bottom corner appears when you swipe out the settings wheel).
You can read more about some features here
QR, barcode and business cards recognition. "Just place the camera over the item and the scan will begin". As default it was only enabled for Moto X (2nd Gen.), Moto X Pro, DROID Turbo, and Moto Maxx/Turbo devices.
Galery:
Highlight Reel - "a collection of your photos and videos set to music, and easily share it with friends and family."
As default it was only enabled on Moto X Style/Play, Moto X (1st. and 2nd Gen.), DROID Turbo, Moto Maxx/Turbo and Moto X Pro devices.
Face Recognition - "Tag people appearing in photos and videos, and organize them automatically."
As default it was only enabled on Moto X Style/Play devices.
FAQ
What if I want to use this new features but I'm on stock rom and already have preinstalled this apps?
You can root your device and install Moto CheckBox module
How to enable slow-mo capturing on non-stock roms?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/themes-apps/moto-camera-slowmo-t3231608
That's only for moto G. Ask the OP from the thread I gave the link above to edit media_profiles.xml for your phone if you're unable to capture slowmo.
Why have you ported moto G camera and gallery apps instead of porting them from Moto X?
The apps are the same for Moto E/X/G/Pure/Style/Droid etc. So no matter from which device I port. They are all the same.
The camera settings don't respond when I try to press on it
Bring back dpi to default value.

Changelog:
17.01.16
New version of the camera. I can't test it so I can't tell what's new. Please report if you find something new or interesting.
Some people report that focusing has been improved
And seems like support for KK was dropped
14.11.15
New version of the camera.
New thing I noticed is in the developer settings you can enable "Show ISO in wheel". I think that will be useful for some people
06.10.15
Fixed gallery FC on Highlight Reel action. But now if you are on stock motorola rom you can't install gallery without root. To install modified gallery you should uninstall the original one at first (from system/app (or priv-app) and data/app) only then you'll be able to install the modified apk.
For non stock users nothing changes. You still able to install apk just like normal app.
04.10.15
Fixed issue when gallery can not be installed on stock roms
04.10.15
Fixed gallery crash. Re download the apk.
03.10.15
Initial release.
OP on the original camera app thread kind of disappeared from the forums, I'll add a link to this on the 2nd post there with the camera settings explanation so there is some continuity between that thread and this one.
Thanks a lot for your hard work on this!

Hi S0bes any way for fix FC in the stock Gallery, thanks
Camera works fine on SlimLP 0.8. One issue with camcoder- SloMo recording doesn't start, says it can't start recording because mic is in use by another application (on the other hand it doesn't FC)

If you don't have root enabled, you can disable the original apps so that they will not appear in your app menus etc.
By the way, congrats and many thanks to the original developer, and to S0bes as well for continuing this project!
I'm rooted. Just wondering if there may be some problems when uninstalling those stock apps
Seems like this gallery is unable to delete files. After erasing they disappear from gallery but remains on device (I can see them in file explorer), so after restart they are present again. Anyone else facing this issue?
tested in XT1575 rooted stock ROM
i use quickpic so haven't tryied the galery app
i see the ladybug... TNKS!!
panorama / burst mode / pic(flash) / 4k / slowmo / >>> all working for me
what would "exposure weight" be? under < feature settings >
i see i have many greyed parts... ___slow motion override // HDR frames ... would that be cose we don't have camera2 API yet? tnks

Hi everyone now that i also own an Xperia x i have found that it has a lot of features either missing or turned off when compared to my Z2! The first thing i noticed was that 4K was not even showing up! I have modified the supervideo app and it now works perfectly so i will share it with you, i will share more as i go along.
Instructions: (must be rooted)!
Download at bottom of post.
1. Download the zip.
2. Extract the apk.
3. Copy the app to sdcard.
4. Adb push or manually copy to /system/priv-app/SuperVideoCamera-xxhdpi-release either backup or over write your original.
5. Set permissions to 0644 rw-r-r- and owner/group to 0 - root.
6. Backup or delete the odex file if it exists (oat/arm64)
7. Reboot

I have been trying desperately to get this working on Android 7.1.1 but given the symptoms experienced I think it is being blocked from full access to the camera modules by drm, I don't think the old drm fix works properly on this fw version as the credmgr tables are empty! There is a new drm fix in the xz forum so I am hoping that can be ported over to our devices as I am sure that drm is the problem here.
