I'm trying to set up a Virtual instance of the Samsung Epic 4G with the android sdk emulator.
Problem: I have a large mmssms.db file with all of my sms messages (no mms in there). I recently bricked my epic, and, (since another wasn't available) kinda unfortunately, using an Evo now. The mmssms.db structure for the Epic is slightly different from that of the evo, although the data is mostly the same.
But I don't have a working epic right now and, since I'm sure there's 'sensitive' information in my db (in the 9000 records..), I wouldn't want someone else to do it on their device.
My idea for a solution:
Use the emulator, working as an Epic, replace my mmssms.db with all of my records, run SMS Backup app (which accesses it through the api, and converts it to xml), then bring that xml to my evo and import it with the same tool.
This has to be possible, just not sure exactly how to do it. I was thinking about "pasting" the data from the old database into the new one (with proper headers), but seems super tedious, and not really experienced with db management.
Thx peeps.

Hi all I did a quick search on this and couldnt find much info. I have a friend with an Evo, she is a realtor and wants to access her MLS site. When she does so with the Evo the site says that it is built only for internet explorer. Any way around this, I have tried several setting combinations and even several other browsers all with no avail. Any kind of IE emulator out there? I'm relatively new to Android, the Evo is my first non BB phone in quite some time so forgive me if this is a "noob" question. Any info would be appreciated.
Well i think the problem is that the page she is trying see has hard coded browser restrictons.
So if the creator of the page dont change the code there is noting you can do.
Beside why destroy linux by porting IE ?
That like puting a old-beetle engien in your porche.

Ok, so she actually sent me on a wild goose chase. She can access her MLS from a wireless specific site which she forgot about. So once we figures out the correct address presto all fixed. Sorry for taking up space. Mods feel free to delete as irrelevant.
Ifly
I thought it was a bit funny she couldn't acces that.
Change her user-agent to that of IE in the Android browser.
How do you change the user agent
Sometimes the MLS software requires active X controls that are only available in Internet Explorer. The MLS should have another way to access listing data through a mobile device. Any idea what MLS software she is using?
Hi folks,
I just purchased my HTC Evo 4G and used this forum to modify the living hell out of it.
Thanks to all the developers here for making things easy and possible; for I thought I was doomed when I found out that NASCAR couldn't be removed (no offense to NASCAR fans).
I've successfully rooted my phone with Android 2.2, updated my radio and some other things, and installed the Cyanogen 6 mod on it. I'm very pleased with my phone so far, but I have a few questions to anyone who has knowledge of the concerned subjects here.
I tried using the search feature in this forum, but all I found were convoluted messes of things that only had the words of what I'm searching for in them.
1.) First things first, I noticed that my HTC Sense clock and calender were gone after installing the Cyanogen mod. So! I just downloaded Beautiful Widgets on my desktop and I'm ready to install my phone. I know how to install the .apk file, but the package also came with a 'data' folder. To which directory should I place this data folder in the micro SD card?
2.) In the Cyanogen Mod, the 'Talk' and 'End' sliding keys were changed from the original operating system. Is there a modding section here or any website that focuses on modifying those keys, or other keys in general?
3.) I'm thinking about upgrading my micro SD card. Mine is currently a Class II 8 GB card. What is the difference between different classes of cards and how does it effect the Evo 4G?
4.) I noticed that with installing the Cyanogen 6 mod, that I get a pesky text message from 9016 whenever I get a voicemail. I've used an app to blacklist and ignore these messages.. but is there any other way?
5.) The Cyanogen 6 mod comes with a music player widget. This widget seems to bug out from time to time. If I end up rotating my phone, the widget bugs to where the album art is gone and the skip-track and play buttons become inoperable. This will also happen if I plug earphones in. Is there a solution to this?
That's all the questions I have. I'm sure some of these issues were addressed throughout the forum.. and I answered several of my questions with the search feature. This list is simply what I have left. Thanks in advance!
.data folder? How about you pay for the software! if you pay for and install from the market these things don't happen. Piracy is a big issue and its ruining android.

Alas, I did pay for it. Unfortunately, when I messed something up and started from square one in modding my phone, I forgot to do a nandroid backup and lost it. So! I'm simply trying to take back what was mine (and that I foolishly lost).
apologies. umm market downloads are stored within your gmail account so when you reflash you can re download free of charge?
previously I used to be able to connect my phone to my MacBook and have iphoto start up and find the photos I took with the evo. however now when I connect the evo, iphoto only sees the photos in an older directory on the phone. it is not displaying the photos which are stored in my dcim/camera directory. is there a way to make it go back to the way it was before so I can easily import my pictures to my computer?
same here.
It may be cause by Android using the DCIM/Camera folder instead of 100xxsomething?
I was working not too long a go, but I have been switching roms a lot.
I think is a Camera.apk is used that saves to the latter folder, it should work.
solution:
http://vowe.net/archives/010622.html
make a symlink to the camera folder
It doesn't work, for iPhoto '11 (9.0.2) at least.
Okay, I did a little googling recently on this, yes the symlink method used to work.
However, now Apple support (google and you will find the link) is saying Android is not following the proper convention of digital camera (and guess if they gonna fix it?)
Reason?
Someone did a test (i didnt test it out myself, i may try it soon), if you have more than DCIM folder in your "drive," iPhoto wont accept that.
Question?
Can someone develop a custom mount similar to "Android's Mass Storage" mount, but instead just mount the DCIM folder only?
I am afraid I am not that knowledgeable in that area (yet) to proceed.
I realize it's not the solution you're looking for, but nothing is easier than dragging and dropping the pictures you've taken with your Evo into iPhoto.
Just my 2 cents.
Drag & drop works fine. However, the automation is the dream here.
We can however go to import menu, problem is, it imports everything and forgot about the previously imported images. It creates duplicates.. Yikes!
Apple and Linux never play nicely

Actually, auto-importing is easier.
Tested Auto-Import Fix. Works for me!
Here's an article I found that tells you how to set up auto-importing. It works for me using iPhoto '09 and Evo with Deck's ROM.
Works Great for me! I didn't write it, but it walks you through how to set it up and provides a pre-made workflow for download.
Hope it helps!

Hi guys. This is my first post! I recently created an account with XDA becasue i LOVE the work and information i get and how everyone gives each other a hand Hope this hasn't been posted befrore!... I recently downloaded the droid x multi touch keyboard on my evo. When i installed a message came up saying that the app can store passwords and credit card numbers Has anyone had any issues with this? Is this really an issue? I currently use it for texting and convert to stock keyboard when inputing personal information. I would like to use my new keyboard comfortably. Thanks!
Well you best bet would be to go into settings > application > apps, and find the app and look at all the permissions granted. Some require ridiculous things like phone book access, ect. Personally, if you're second guessing your info being compromised, I'd uninstall it, but again, that's just me.
that's a common warning in android when installing any 3rd party KB. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

double post, but it does the same thing when I enable wiimote control keyboard.

ya thats what android systems tells you when enabling a 3rd party keyboard. i confirmed this when i extracted, signed, and installed the htc sense kb like a 3rd party one and it gave me the same message. its because almost all half decent kb's have word prediction and autocorrect, so they store the data. if you were to, for example, type your bank pin in using the kb, and it would store it in the dictionary, it could possibly be extracted. there is nothing to worry about though. it doesnt say 'this=bank passcode' or anything. it would jsut save the sequence of numbers for its own future referance.
welcome to the xda.
Loving the fast responses! I think im going to stick with the keyboard. Didn't think it was that big of a deal. Thank you fellas
Now these responses are not to say that your phone security is not being compromised. With the growing support for Android and all the open source developing, the likelihood of attacks to your phone is greater. I'm not too concerned with it right now, but it is something to be mindful of.
I just read a blog the other day regarding this. But then again, I haven't heard of any cases where somebody extracted or remotely manipulated another person's phone.
Welcome to XDA!
I've looked around on this forum and others, but I haven't found a tool yet which allows for file browsing and upload/download from a Samsung WP7 device. Most of the tools available seem to be for HTC phones.
The "Advanced Explorer for WP7" allows browsing, but the desktop client to copy files off doesn't seem to work - whenever I try, I get an unhandled exception. Looking at the source code for the app, it seems that only limited file access is enabled for non-HTC devices.
Does anyone know any tools or a way to get files off the device onto a computer?
Thanks!
not yet as of now, but here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021135 claims that he will release one soon
I saw that one - the reg editor works better than any others I've tried, so I have high hopes for the file browser part.
Since I saw people posting on how they got the Diagnosis app off and REed it, I assumed there was tool already available >_<

My webserver is limited (e.g. it doesn't go through device drivers to enable more access), but this is how one may easily pull files off the device for the sake of RE (or whatever).

The webserver allowed me to get the Diag app off, thanks!
This is going a bit OT, but some folders in Windows did come up with error accessing contents, any idea why? Also, I noticed some of the files had size zero when downloaded.
