Hi all,
I am fairly new to XDA, and used the HTC Touch Diamond 2 thread to install android on my device. However, since the short batterly life bugged me alot I decided to get the rather cheap Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 until new phones end 2011/begin 2012 will be released.
I tried to search for a S5660 thread on the XDA forums but I couldn't find anything about this phone. Did I not search properly or is this phone just no interesting to developers? I'm looking for info mainly on a android 2.3 update.
Regards
I've been searching for this too for few days now with zero result.
I hope someone soon come out with the utility to root it easily.
Thanks.
My wife has the Gio. So i hope that we find many people who are interested on customizing this phone.
what will happen if I use one click root application for other galaxy device? has anyone try it before?
how i root my samsung galaxygio S-5660
Hello, anyone found any way to root it already? please share it here..
Thanks.

There is no way yet to remove the galaxy gio, free (but you can buy a code to unlock it).
SuperOneClick workss, I hope there comes a rom/kernel soon to get it OC to 1ghz
Thanks,
Does this mean that the method of Hex-editing "nv_data.bin" file that works on Galaxy S is not for Gio (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045)
Also i want to backup the /efs and imei. But right now the phone is new and very fast and i am wondering if it safe to root it without slowing down or bricking the phone. I really want to backup the system folder as it is under contract so i need not to void warranty.
Can any give some advice plz????
I can confirm this works fine:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
but too bad I can't find modified ROM for this model.
After I installed ROM Manager, when I attempted to install CWM, Gio is not listed in the phone model available.. It's just too bad.

I can also confirm SuperOneClick works fine on the Galaxy Gio. But I'm in the same boat - ROM Manager doesn't recognize the Gio. Any hope?
I rooted with SuperOneClick, straight up install and run with nothing fancy, and root works just fine. I haven't noticed any difference in performance, better or worse. However, ROM Mananger and Clockwork don;t support the Gio yet, and there's no mods out that I know of so overclocking isn't yet an option either.
Now its clear that Gio can be rooted with SOC but as a noob i have two further questions, some help needed plz !
1- Is there any possible way of backing up the current phone state so that in case of screw up i can revert back to original settings to claim warranty ???
2- Lastly if above is successful then does any one know how to remove the network lock to use different operator sims???
I want to know more my GT-S5660 samsung galaxygio. send root software in my postbox

I'm using recently bought un-rooted Galaxy Gio (S5660XXKQ5) with stock 2.3.4 ROM. The reception has been pretty bad right from the start and few days ago I read that the reason for that might be the modem of my current stock ROM.
The question is - can I just flash new modem via Odin without rooting the phone and installing custom ROM? Is there a collection of S5660 modems somewhere?
HI !!!
Hi!
same new member here...
this analogy maybe ll help you...
which one do you think is greater, the brand new car that hasn't been modified or the modified car that its components, including engine, brake, and body has been modified into the best one???...
when you play NFS or GT sure you ll upgrade your car components, right?
same like the custom rom compared to the stock...
even the stock has a lot of problems..
here mine when i bought, i got nothing special with my gio with 2.2.1 stock FW
even the galaxy mini is better comparing to gio with the stock in GPS test
so u better root you phone, without being care about the MOdulator-DEModulator stuff and going to new custom rom
there are a lot of Best rom in the Android Development forum like the one created by phiexz, search yourself
to have custom rom sure you have to root your device, and don't think it's complicated that you should get other's help
u can do yourself
1.)search the root tutorial based on your current rom (when i first root my phone i used superoneclick, but if it's kinda complicated, seach another way)
2.)then install Clockworkmod Recovery, download in the market or else by the name ROM Manager (or the customized CWM)
3.)download the rom (complete components, if existed)
4.)flash the rom by rebooting into recovery... (don't care about rooting again, u ll find most of the rom will be automatically rooted with new CWM, and a2sd enabler)
5.)short tutorial above depends on the rom you ll be flashed
i'm a bit being advisor, hope u dont mind...
I know all the advantages of having a custom ROM but this time I'm really interested in replacing my modem to get better reception. Could it be done?
Hello,
after having had a HTC Desire HD I have upgraded (actually downgraded) to a Samsung Galaxy Fame S6810p.
However, as I am not very satisfied with TouchWiz and the bloatware on the phone I would like to flash a 'vanilla' ROM on the device, a task which is quite new for me, but something I would like to learn.
Having read myself into ROM Managers, Goo Managers, etc. I have not been able to find any ROM suitable for the S6810p. Therefore here few basic questions before I continue reading on:
- can I only used ROMs that have been adapted to my phone?
- Is there a vanilla ROM for my phone (Samsung Galaxy Fame s6810p)
- and if not, how much is the effort to port one to my phone?
I had used the search function looking for entries for Galaxy Fame etc and have not found anything (apart from rooting the phone)
Thanks

1st yes you can only use a rom adapted to your phone
2nd vanilla rom? I don't think there is any custom rom for this model
3rd you have to try anyway first find a phone that suits your hardware specification and port a rom from that device

So has anyone found a CWM for this phone yet? It's driving me crazy! I'm starting to regret buying this phone because of this. How is it that nobody has done a port yet? The phone has been out for more than a year.
I'm wondering what else will pop up for this.

I'm in the same situation of many other users: this phone is really slow with the stock rom after some months of medium usage. I'm not a developer, I really don't know hot to create a new rom, but I can use my Galaxy Fame as a tester for a great new rom made in xda :good:
A pure Android experience like Cyanogenmod should be very useful for this phone, it could be much more light and smooth than the stock rom.
Many others phone (for example Galaxy W, Galaxy S Plus...) has some good roms that are CM based. It's a pity that Galaxy Fame hasn't any specific section on this incredible Forum I'm sure that many people will find interesting and useful a Galxy Fame Section with Android Development, Q&A, ecc...
Once you root the phone you can at least disable/freeze some of the bloatware that comes with the phone using Titanium Backup Pro, but yes, a clean custom ROM would make a world of difference and hopefully help with the freez-ups.
Also an overclock/undervolt kernel would be useful.
anyone tried the cwm posted?
CLOCK WORK MOD, or CWM, is not a rom, so does not count, i also am regreting buying this phone for the lack of custom roms..........gues we can't have anything, and have to move along to other devices.

Hello there! Im here with a request if someone can help with unlocking, rooting, clockwork mod and custom rom stuff.
Im using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM) Maguro running on the lastest android 4.3 and since 4.4 is out from 2 weeks or so i really wanna get it on my phone even when Google wont update our gnexus with their latest os. I know the current state of the KitKat 4.4 AOSP versions is not 100% stable and mainly those gfx issues when rotating and stuff but ill be okay.
I know there are alot of guides out there but all i need is a simplified one with intel from where to start to where to end it.
There are many stuff on the internet ive already searched but somehow i dont do it because of all the info inside it.
I know to read and before my galaxy nexus i had the Sony X8 using custom rom GDX+ and it worked well everything was easy. But with my nexus now i think there are more things to do now.
All im asking is the easiest way to get it ready to flash the package and the GAPPS. (i already picked the one from here and i have the gapps on my pc) Now i need info on how to unlock and everything with clockworkmod and backup my current os.
Thanks in advance!
No offense, but if you can't follow the guides in here on how too unlock/custom recovery/root then no one in the world can.
The methods showed here are simplest as it gets!!
As a last alternative, try the GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Hi I second this. I would also like a stable, stock, deodexed, rooted and busyboxed kitkat rom for my gsm gnexus with instructions on flashing and installing gapps. Any advice is much appreciated.

Hey ADDOriN, what's up?
First of all, I found the same problem as you... I spent some hours trying to understand the whole process and honestly didn't reach my goal... The tutorial pointed out by the friend t1.8matt is great and easy, but if you don't feel confartable yet, you can try to follow the steps on youtube video called "How To Root Android 4.3 On the galaxy nexus" made by Manley (sorry, but as a noob, I can't post the link)
Some considerations about:
- the tutorial uses CWM but depending on the version of 4.4, you should use TWRP... The process to apply the image file is the same, differing only in root step
- if your bootloader is locked, in the moment you unlock it, all your data will be erased, so a backup is highly recommended
The GNex Toolkit 11.1.0 quoted by the friend wysefreakz is easier than made everything by hand, but honestly, I didn't find an information if it is or isn't compatible with 4.3 version, so I chose to the "hand-made" method.
Just to say, I used custom firmwares on my old Defy and made the same for a Galaxy S, but I found some doubts to gnexus (even had converted it from yakjuvs to yakju in the past)
I hope I can help you
I would not use a toolkit, as pointed out by many experienced users, they can do more harm than good. Not always the case but it is possible. I you get the android SDK setup on your computer, its actually not hard using adb and fastboot once you learn the commands. There are plenty of tutorials out there to help you with getting it setup and learning about adb and fastboot.
@leocasarin, @t1.8matt, @wisefreakz Thank you guys!
Actually there is no problem for me is to follow slowly the tutorials here and there. I made this thread to ask if there is something i didnt found my rolling on the forums or the internet as general. @t1.8matt yes the tutorial you give me is maybe the one ill follow. @leocasarin i will follow the ideas you said to me and im really thankful.
NINJA EDIT: I just used the video tutorial posted from @leocasarin and i completed everything and i now have KitKat 4.4! KUDOS FOR YOU MATE <3

I've used this site many times, so it should work. All you need to do is download the correct rom for your region.

PS. Don't download any Froyo roms, the gio gets stuck in a boot loop if anything below GB is flashed
Froyo ? for me the best android version for our gio. With this version we could record in 640*480 nad the battery usage was less then now

unfortunately, it's just not compatible. I've tried going back to 2.2, but after getting a boot loop and everyone else confirming this, it's not worth trying something that just won't work. You will have to go to gingerbread, sorry

Assuming that your phone can every support custom ROM's, it will depend on the type of custom ROM you'd like of which there are tons of great ROM's out there. Your first goal is to research which ROM you want but read this all the way through before you start. While you do that, the ROM's you are considering need to have a KitKat Android version (it might be depreciated). After that, you need to make sure to find the right ROM that works for your phone model and then follow the instructions on installing the custom recovery. This custom recovery will be used to wipe and then flash the new ROM to the phone (NOTE: wiping will erase all your personal data and apps so back up your app data first and if you want to also backup your apps). The ROM may or may not have pre-installed apps, however it will not have any Google Apps (including the Play Store) which means you'll need to find the right package online that fits your phone processor and android version to flash with but after the custom ROM. Anyways hope this helps and good luck ?
