Hey guys, my friends evo won't recieve picture messages. She can send them, but never recieves them. She is currently using Go SMS Pro, but even on the stock app/handcent, etc. she still has no luck recieving them. Her phone is non-rooted btw. Any input to help her recieve pictures is greatly appreciated.
She just never receives them, or she is getting an error?

If it's not rooted just go the easy way and make Sprint fix it.
Go in a corporate store, they'll get on it.
Turn off Wifi.
MMS only works over mobile data.

You don't have to turn wifi off but the 3g radio DOES have to be enabled.
Just download chompsms fron the app market that will fix it

Can't send mms on my HTC evo's
It seems this is a wide problem for EVO users. I've had this for some time now and just about had enough. Going to the store tomorrow to get it ironed out. Dialing 611 for help does NOT HELP! Bad enough I'm paying for 4G and can't get it in my area let alone not be able to send mms's.
---------- Post added at 03:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 AM ----------
By the way Chomp and Handcent does the same thing.
Got it to work by going to settings, Wireless&Settings, then turn on Mobile Networks. They sent as soon as I did that. No 3G required.
Are you using Google Voice?

when someone sends you a picture message, what exactly happens? do you get an error? blank screen in message, etc..?
No, I never get any message. No text or clue that they ever even sent a message until they text me to ask if I got the picture.

Sounds like a Sprint network error. Are you roaming? Do you have good 3G signal? Try updating Profile and PRL.
Here are some more questions...
Is the person sending you the MMS message on Sprint's network? If not, which network is he/she on? What phone is he/she using?
Also, is it only the same person who is sending you a MMS message? If it's multiple people, are they all on the same network? Same phone brand/OS?
ok... i've fixed this problem many times before. take the battery off of your phone.. leave it off for about 5mins. put the battery back in. boot phone up...update prl and profile. turn phone back off..leave it off for 2mins. then turn phone back on. this time send yourself 2 text and pic messages, see if you get them.
it's more of a network connection "hiccup" between your phone and the towers.
this should correct the problem. if it's doesn't, call sprint, and tell them to reset your data profile. tell them that you have already updated your prl.. then they will tell you to turn phone off then back on. you should be good to go.

what you have to do first...is a self network test. you have to see if the network is responding from your end first...then you know from there.
Tried your fix and it worked, thanks much Androidmaster. A guy I know who's a phone tech says it is a poor signal issue so I might have to do this repeatedly.:-(

I've used some ROMs where I could never use MMS, even with that fix. In that case I just had to use a different (or newer version of the same) ROM where it did work.

If the ROM had Sprintandroidextensions.apk removed MMS, voicemail and updating PRL will not work.

Hi guys,
I live on campus and we have wifi everywhere and so I have the 200mb option to save some pennies.
Can I disable mobile data somehow but leave MMS (MMS does not count towards tmobile data). It already racked up 60mb. That and it might save some battery too, who knows.
Are you saying if you turn off mobile data you lose MMS? I'm confused..
Settings-> Data usage-> untick Mobile Data

Yes, that's what happens, I don't know how to stop it, but it looses all mms capabilities when you loose mobile data.

If you are on stock ROM i think there is a way to use MMS over WiFi calling. But after a quick google, it seems like third party apps such as GOSMS and Handcent dont like MMS over WiFi calling. So just use the stock MMS app. Remember, this is only if you are on a stock ROM or TouchWiz ROM. AOSP ROMs do not work at all with WiFi calling (From what i remember)
There is no way to disable data and still receive MMS.

Yes there is. Google MMS over WiFi calling. Kinda wish it worked on AOSP
What do you mean by "Google MMS" ? The stock messenger? OP it seems like it should work unless you don't have wifi calling enabled?

Let me rephrase that: There is no way in stock android to receive MMS while data is off.
If you're rooted, download LBE Priacy Guard or Droidwall and disable and whitelist only the messenger

this seems like the only solution so far. Thanks
The only solution, even though not the best, would be to switch to an HTC phone.
The only phones I know that are able to receive MMS with Mobile Data off are HTC phones.
Otherwise no other phone I've used does it and stock Android doesn't do it either.

Dude just call T-Mobile and ask them to disable your internet data but leave your MMS open!! Works perfectly!
AT&T unfortunately doesn't do this, but T-Mobile sure does. I used to be on T-Mobile but switched 3 months ago and found out that I was screwed by AT&T since they won't disable internet.

Dear i'm samsung glaxay s2 4.1.2 jb user n i was also this problem but now solved :good:
go to system settings-> more setting -> Mobile networks ->Access point name and leave only MMS settings But delete WAP settings
INSHALLAH you will can access mms without wap. try it
I've searched through quite a few threads all day, and found a fix that involved changing some APN values manually. Fixed MMS on 3G, but it still refuses to work while on WiFi. Any way to get it working on WiFi as well?
Oh, and yes, I have re-flashed to no avail.
EDIT 9/22: Now I can't receive or send out MMS messages. Tweaked my build.prop a bit ago, though I'm not sure that's the cause.
EDIT 9/23: Deleted cache and dalvik cache, now I can once again only send and recieve over 3G.
A harmless little bump.
Well I can't help you fix it on wifi. But I do believe that it actually just doesn't work on wifi. I'm sure that anytime I was ever on cm7/9 I had to connect 3g when I needed to send or receive a mms. So I think there's no way to really "fix" it, its just like that.

as far as mms, it will work obviously with 3g (which is data) but not required,
certain roms have toggles that u can turn off data,
but your network will be on, so you can recieve, make calls, send text n receive also.....
now if your doing picture mms then you need data,
and if u receive a picture mms while on wifi
it wont download <<<< my carrier explained that to me, when i first had this issue.

Disable SMS to MMS Conversion
This modification disables the incredibly annoying "feature" that Samsung chooses to add to its messaging app, where any SMS message of a sensible length (ie. longer than 3 SMS messages) will be converted into an MMS message.
A brilliant idea for those who pay for each message they send, as 3xSMS is about the cost of an MMS, which can carry much more text. Unfortunately for Samsung, they're a few years too late here - most people don't pay for their SMSs individually any more. And they likely would need to pay to send an MMS.
Enter this modification, which lets you send long messages again without issue.
Attached is the LEGACY version of this plugin for Xposed API 2.0 RC2. DO NOT USE THIS VERSION. Use the up-to-date one in the download manager.

disable sms to mms conversion
Thanks all for help so far.
The Creation mode doesn't seem to make a difference. Reason I want it disabled is because my company don't allow MMS, so long SMS just change to MMS and fail to send! I was wondering why this guy hadn't replied to my text........
I have tried the Application, and it appears to install but makes not difference. Reading more it looks like I need to use that general Tweaking app, and that you need Root?
Please confirm, because I cannot root my phone as I need to use Good, and my company have Good set to not run on Rooted devices.
I'm really not bothered about having to use another app, as I already use Whatapp wherever I can to keep my SMS (which I have to get billed by text for) down, so would prefer not to have two seperate 'Text' apps, further to the core Android one, which I am generally pleased with?
Solutions appreciated... or, is there an app that brings all Whatapps, texts and Emails into one 'stream' that you can disable SMS to MMS on?
XDA rules...
The app needs xposed framework to run. You have to be rooted to install xposed but once installed and activated you can unroot again. I don't know of any way to disable the mms conversion without rooting first
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm a little late on here, kind of a noob when it comes to this as well, but anyways so i've installed xposed installer and got a couple modules to download, install and work properly but when i try this one, i get "Parse error". Any ideas? I absolutely HATE that Samsung has this limit!
You can use wannam xposed from the play store, it has this option in it. Sounds like a bad download though

So annoying. Whenever someone sends me a text in GROUP MMS I keep getting that No Subject crap over the message.
Only happens on incoming Group MMS, not individual messages
Tmobile has no clue what Im talking about
Besides going to a 3rd party app(Textra does not work), anyone have any ideas?

Is there a fix for this, or is it just something we have to deal with? I'm experiencing this same thing having just switched to T-Mobile from AT&T.
Because group messages come in as mms messages.

Yeah, but on my old SIII on AT&T, it would leave off the "Subject: <no subject>" line in MMS messages. I was wondering if there's a way to get rid of it on this phone or if it's just something we're stuck with.
