Admin access - Windows Phone 7 General

Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

So everyone has been talking about, nodo,.android, blah blah. So, anyone have any ideas on how gaining root access on our phones. In fact I think there elevated access and standard access. And what exactly do we get access to besides those hidden reg keys? And has anyone noticed that ther are .exe files but we can't run them?
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Root is a Unix/Linux concept. We only get adminitrator here~

thats what I meant was admin access. How would we be able to achieve that?

Wireless File Managment App

hey i was wondering if anyone here has come across a app that will allow me to browse the files on my phone and drag and drop files from my computer on to my phone with out having to connect a usb to the computer, pretty much to sync wirelessly but to whatever specific folder i want on my phone . was playing around with Browsix which from what iv read should have that feature but i either havent been able to find out how it works or maybe it dosent have it at all.
Try the built in Samsung Kies Wireless app on your phone. It works quite well over the local wifi network.
Sent from my Samsung Epic Touch 4G using the XDA mobile app.
Kies air. It's in your app drawer. I believe that's what you're looking for. Let's you navigate through everything on your phone wirelessly.

yea i just set it up and essentially thats what im looking for. but for example i have a folder with icons i wanna drop onto my phone. i have a folder for icons but i cant just drag that folder on to my phone through the kies browser and expect it to show up on my phone? when i click upload it only gives me the option to upload individual files not a whole folder. unless im not clicking the right option.
Try airdroid its a very nice app.

spot on man. i like how it gives you a desktop like window to play with. even lets you create folders on your phone and just import the files over. very very nice.
No problem bro, I love that app.

I just installed AirDroid, based on the recommendations, and partly because it uses port 8888 instead of 2121 that I'm using for another app.
One problem I'm seeing is that it doesn't load my Contacts. I get a yellow triangle and the message, "Failed with network error." This is on a Sprint E4GT running Calkulin's 2.7 if that matters.
I have used myphone explorer! It works great. I believe you can copy n sync files and folders from your pc to your phone. you can send sms through your phone from your pc keyboard. I was really impressed with it and it's almost a 5 star free program at the market.

I haven't used XP for a while (other than at work, where I am not responsible) but, I think Start -> run -> msconfig.msc might help you out. You can disable anything you want during startup. You can probably also tell what you are disabling because it will tell you the path to the executable. After turning a bunch of stuff off, reboot and see where you are at.

I am sure you already know this, but virtual memory is much, much slower than hardware RAM. That said, increasing virtual memory probably won't speed up your system, but will allow for additional multitasking (running more programs). Windows does a pretty good job at managing the virtual memory and keeping the more accessed information in real memory.
In short, I don't believe that increasing your virtual memory will make much of a difference. 2GB should be plenty. Additionally, if you are using a 32-bit version, Windows can not access more than 4GB of RAM (including video RAM, and hardware RAM) and that limitation may include virtual memory. Typically, 3GB is about all you can use with a 32-bit OS.

The task manager... right click on start bar (not on a button or application) and start taskmanager. All applications have an associated process but not all processes have associated applications (at least applications with a GUI). From the process list, which will have what you want to get rid of, you will probably have to google each process name to determine what it is and how to get rid of it and if it is safe to do so. When I do a fresh XP install with anti virus and a minimal application set, I have somewhere around 40 total processes.

That looks pretty good. One thing to remember is that "cached" physical memory is almost free memory. The operating system has files and other data that is cached in RAM for quick access but can easily be dumped to make room for new information.
So, now the question is, what is the problem/symptoms that you are trying to solve?

Msconfig is really meant as more of a trouble shooting tool. It's not proper to use it as a maintenance tool. If there's anything that you want to disable at startup you really ought to handle it in that particular programs options. Or consoder uninstalling tje program entirely.
Better than the stock windows defragment is a program called defraggler.
Also, you might try a windows XP forum. I think they would be better help.

Well according to y'all its not my memory I guess I'm running the cpu more than it can handle its a guitar program in basic terms it turns my computer into an amplifier if you need to know its POD Farm 2 and when I try to add a "dual" which is like using two different amp setups it chops the sounds and won't work correctly and was thinking it was my memory not being able to free up the needed ram but I guess my lil 1.3ghz cpu isn't cutting it

There's 'natural' fragmentation of files that happens over time that a defrag'er can't always fix. A clean install is kind of like the ultimate defrag'er in that sense.

Since I had such good results last time I posted about a pc I was wondering something else.
My mother uses her pc for work and it requires certain system files that work like a network or a passage to her works servers. Something in system32...idk anyways... I was wondering if it were possible to image her pc and flash it onto the new pc I'm going to be getting. If not She really just needs xp on it and needs internet explorer 6 and her word 2003 it has a lot of auto corrections/ shortcuts in it. The system files can be put on it by her tech support. Basically she needs xp on her new pc with her internet explorer 6 and word. What would be the easiest way to do so?
I know I could find internet explorer 6 somewhere.
Also for the word I could transfer the auto corrections to the newest word 2010 but I hear it has to be done for each auto correction and she has upwards of 500 hundred.

Setup a dropbox account. Install it on the pc and the app on the phone. The pc will always stay synched and you can get to your files from anywhere.
There are many options to do what I think it is you want. You could set up an SSH server on your system, create a rule through your router/firewall and if you don't have a static IP use something like OpenDNS; then use a VPN client to connect (VPNRoot in Play Store works).
You could also use DropBox, Box.net, SkyDrive, Google Drive or any other 'cloud' sync service for specific files too.
Or more simply you can use something like LogMeIn or TeamViewer. Both are dead simple and if you really do need access to your system while your away (or do remote tech support) these are well worth the price(s).
Are you looking for something like Samba for android?
Not sure if you are looking for something that will allow you to do this when you aren't near your PC, or if you are looking at something so you don' have to hook up your phone to your computer.

I use lookout only for the phone locator service.. I have always had protection turned off and I have downloaded some apps from some shady places and still never gotten a virus.. It's almost as if the whole mobile virus thing is a myth... I've Google searched many times to see if anyone has actually gotten a virus on their phone and I couldn't find anything that was an actual case of an infected phone
Edit: if someone on here has ever had a virus on their Android phone I would love to hear about it.

nothing here. I do have Kaspersky though. I got it in a bundle with my comp software. I simply use it for the remote locate and wipe features
The closest things, to my knowledge, are apps that perform some menial **** task but behind the scenes sell your personal information to marketers and stuff; but the reviews often reflect that and google pulls em from the market after a while

you won't get a "virus"
but you may have info and data being monitored or sent somewhere that you don't know of. key's being logged and stuff like that
Yeah I think android is built on the linux kernel or a variation of it anyways and as I understand it linux doesnt get too many viruses. I too use lookout just for the tracking features. I think that we have to watch out for malware and spyware and of course the dreaded CIQ.
I was actually thinking about this the other day myself. Haven't encountered any. I think it's like buying virus software for a Mac -- it just doesn't make sense.
Android devices don't get viruses.

What is being referred to is pretty dated but it is still a valid example of malware.
(replace the ++ I don't have enough posts for links)
h++p://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2011/03/malware-in-android-market-highlights-googles-vulnerability/
"The malicious applications sent personal details, including the phone's unique IMEI number, to a US-based server. Worse, it exploited security flaws to root the phone, and installed a backdoor application that allows further software to be installed to the handsets. Though Google has now purged the applications from the Market, the rooting and backdoor mean that the anyone who has run one of the malicious programs should reset their phone to stock conditions to clean it up. The flaw used to root the operating system was fixed in Android 2.2.2 and 2.3, so users of those versions should be able to get away with simply removing the applications. The programs were all (re)published by an entity named Myournet; it too has now been removed from the Market."
and
h++p://tinyurl.com/cbypqw6
For the record that is malware not a virus. Most Android issues are malware, more specifically adware (airpush), spyware, trojans, and rootkits. There is a lot of malware for Android, and it is a serious concern. The majority you find are genuine apps repackaged with malware, and about a third of all malware will exploit Android vulnerabilities to gain higher privileges. As far as security apps, a study from the Android Malware Genome Project estimated most available security products only catch between 20 and 80 percent of known malware.
The reason historically Mac's OSX and Linux have not had as many issues with malware is they have a smaller market share. As your market share grows, the cost/benefit ratio of creating malware changes and at a certain point any platform becomes a viable enterprise. Apple's recent issues with Flashback and Mac Defender; the cross-OS trojans " GetShell.A" and "Boonana;" java/Flash exploits that can compromise anything running either outside a dedicated sandbox; are an example of how ridiculous it is to follow a concept like "security through obscurity."
Good find... thx for info
