I am thinking of buying the HTC Desire Z for my wife next month.
I would like to know where can I get it from for the cheapest?
I want to buy it new not used too.
I live in the U.K. and want to buy it unlocked if possible if not how to unlock.
thanks guys for

I've personally never ordered from them.
play.com is also pretty good. When I got mine, it was cheapest there.
I got mine from a HTC branded stall in a westfield shopping centre. It was run by some outfit called westcoast mobile. Handset was unlocked even though I got it on a O2 contract.

You can try eBay if you want but always buy from someone who has a high feedback I bought mine from eBay and its been working fine.
well, you'll need to get the HTC Desire Z A7272 not the 7275 or the g2. then the next thing is to check online for a store that sells it. I bought mine off ebay (a7275 though since i'm on at&t) and it seems to be working completely fine.
Thanks guys, why what's the difference between them?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
they all have different 3g radio bands. look it up. i can't remember off the top of my head. but essentially the 7272 is for european countries (supporting all the 3g bands in europe) the 7275 is for canada (and happens to work for at&t since they use the same bands) and the g2 uses tmobile's unique system (1 band for upload and 1 band for download)
A DZ for your wife? LOL its for nerdy people like us. Give her something like desire S or something.

Lol she wants the qwerty keyboard as she has a blackberry atm which is sh*t. I have desire HD and she likes it but to big for her.

Well then its cool, get it. Btw it has a very poor battery life so buy the mugen power 1800 mAh battery with it, its the same size as the original.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
How long does the battery last?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
It was 100% 6 hours ago when I charged it, after that 1 hour of calling, texting n light activities , edge continuously on, now its 47 %
It's sucks big time coz on such huge phone they put 1300 mAh battery. So we definitely need a 1800 mAh one, its the same size, not available in my country Pakistan but I have asked someone um USA to mail me, hope I get it soon :/
Sent from my HTC T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
It usually takes about 11 hours before my phone drops down to 55% and this is with 3G runnng at all times with a bt headset and 6 apps (according to zdbox) running continuously in the background and 4 emails (3 doing 1 hr sync and 1 doing 4hr sync) as well as pulse pulling from 5 sites (engadget, kotaku, gizmodo, android central, bgr)
EDIT: oh and about an hour of talk time on the phone. all this on stock battery
I'm also using the stock battery, Idk why but I'm getting less out of it, I have completed the full charge cycles as well as battery calibration but nothin works. So I'm gettin mugen power 1800 mAh.
Sent from my HTC T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
According to battery doctor, 14 apps r running in the background.
Sent from my HTC T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
i suggest you bring down the number of apps running in teh background then. it seems to be an unneccessary amount of apps running unless you truly believe they're all needed...
I don't need half of them all the time, only sometimes but they auto start themselves.

the guys I spoke to said he cant waive handset fee, they got 8000 in stock yesterday but they still not added to the system so was wandering if I spoke to the same guy as you tomo and see if I can get similar deal
Hmm, well I ordered mine Wednesday last week, and I got a plan @ £15pm 200 mins, unlim texts and data, with a handset cost of £150. The first plan they tried to sell me was really poor, but they eventually matched (and bettered a tmo plan), also I heard simply ending the call, and trying again with another employee can throw up different plans.

Hey all, seeing as how Wirefly has posted the g2x for being 149.99 on pre-order, I was wondering if it was worth it to jump on the bandwagon quickly, or just wait till the reviews come out. The deal ends on Friday if I am not mistaken, so i just wanted the forums advice;
would you think i should wait for the reviews to come out?
do the pre-order devices generally have a worse build quality compared to a month later purchase? (I know that some people said that the g2 hinge got better as htc improved the hinge over time, but i doub thtat)
Thanks alot!
EDIT: mod, please delete this thread, i didnt know ther was an optimus 2x thread, ill move it to there
Pre order just means you are waiting in line for it
Generally, after reading about many devices, never buy it the first time around. Wait a good month or two and read reviews.

Idk?? Ive seen some phones (on youtube) that have ****ty hinges.. ive never had an issue. And why not preorder?? You have a buyers remorse period for a reason.. use it. The only reason id wait is to see development support for a phone. But since cyanogen said he was gettin at G2 i knew id be good.

I say go with the HTC Rezound. Even though I don't know the Rezound the specs are amazing. Even though the Rezound has an LCD display it beats the RAZR/MAXX display. And you can extend the battery/sd card with the Rezound. Sense is better than Motoblur anyway.
If you want a high end qwerty go with the Droid 4, thats what I have now. Same specs as the razr execpt it has an LCD display insted of AMOLED.
Unlike the Motorola devices, there is a method to unlock the bootloader.
I'll have to look into the rezoned. Do you know if it had the radio card hack for tethering so it's not able to be monitored =P and I agree Moto blur pretty much sucks

My wife just upgraded to an iPhone5 by signing a 2-year extension, so I've decided to upgrade to another phone to keep our contract terms the same. I have a Galaxy Nexus that I've enjoyed using - mainly for the official updates. But for $10, I can get a refurb One X. I know these phones are pretty similar, but I wanted to list a few gripes about the GNex and see if they are evident in the HOX:
1. GPS hardly works - I've tried some fixes, but I always seem to have to turn off Google location and reboot for a signal to sync.
2. Battery Life - I'm a pretty heavy web surfer and the GNex will typically last 4 - 5 hours (30%). On a typical day, I usually charge once around 1:00pm and before bed.
I love JB, but if it not released for HOX in October, I imagine I can find a ROM with it?

Great to hear about the October release. GPS is the biggest annoyance, so glad to hear that's all good. When you say :nor happy' with the battery, would you speculate or have observed worse, equal, or a little better than GNex?

I came from a GNexus, battery life for me is about the same - I get about 4 hours screen on time with CM10 and NCX kernel

Battery life depeds on how u use the phone..
If u use 3g all the time and usual auto sync then u can get aprox around 3 hours of screen on time..
Compared to gnex its lower..
U can get 4-5 hours on galaxy s3..
So tbh hox fails on battery..
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
No you do not unless you are hardly using your phone except staring at it. 2 hours on screen time is average and eveb then you gotta be careful.

Sorry, what's that? $10 for the phone? $10 a month? For 2 years? I'd be all over that.
Thanks for the responses. I'll need to do a little more research. It's $10 when signing a 2-year agreement.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
the One X and Nexus are not similar....massively better screen, built and camera, GPU and CPU i don't see the "similar"
just be prepared for a lot of screen off time and less screen on time, Tegra 3 is different from all other phones it gives crazy amount of sleep time thanks to the extra low power core and consumes a lot during actual use, over wifi browsing you can achieve 3.5 hours, don't forget the screen is over 4x brighter so even at 25% you are still brighter than the GNEX, heavy 3d gaming gives around 2.5 to 3 hours on stock ROM
custom ROMs are aplenty and CM10 is fully functional but you loose the benefits of Sense (believe when i say benefits) and you loose the camera abilities like HDR and burst mode
the current 2.17 Android 4.0.4 firmware is almost as smooth as JB
we had the leaked JB alpha test firmware for few weeks, beta is just around the corner and the final OTA is coming in OCTOBER
be careful with refurbs we had lots of QC issues on launch

so most of my comments still stand except battery life
with the S4 version you get more screen on time and less screen off time

Blame AT&T. They called the One XL the One X for some reason.
I'm sure there are plenty of threads with similar topics, but I haven't really looked around...
So anyway! I'm having a hard time deciding what to go for. I'm thinking of dumping T-Mo for AT&T since I'd receive a discount because of my employer. And I'd like a taste of LTE for once. But I'd have the discount option with anyone (except t-mo of course, go figure)
Lately I'm eyeing the GSIII, the Note II, One X+, Nexus 4 n Droid DNA
Thoughts? Opinions? Rants or recommendations? I'd really love to hear from the community
Especially about whether or not I should stick it out with Magenta due to all their acquisitions and promise of future upgrades.

My next device will probably the iPhone due to a few reasons:
- fewer GUI lags due to a different OS concept
- iPhones get their updates right after it was released and not just one but all device models. Furthermore the updates are delivered for a longer time. Even the 3GS got an update to the latest OS version. Now compare that to thenumber of updates for the Desire Z...
Nexus 4 if it ever comes to stock.

well there's more stuff that makes me prefer the iPhone. The active sync support for example. From my experience it is the only mobil OS that truly does Exchange ActiveSync (havent checked WP8 yet). It can sync all of my calendars as they are.
Android makes one big chunky calendar of all of my calendars.. iOS syncs my tasks, stock android doesnt.. only current HTC roms do but they are really laggy.. so I guess it comes out that from a user experience I'm disappointed with android.
what I love about my device is its keyboard and the fact that it basically is a linux which offers me some nice abilities as a software dev.
So I'm crossing off the Nexus 4 from my list due to it only having up to 16gb of internal, no SD Card expandability and no LTE either
Any more opinons?

I am looking for a new phone also, but I really don't want to pay the high price, or extend my contract to get a SGSIII. That being said, the Nexus4, which i think would fit my needs perfectly isn't freaking available. Called Google tonight to see if there was any hope for anything soon, and the guy was like "ehhhh I got nothing, keep checking the website."
So I'm running out of patience with my g2, and also Google for that matter. Whoever planned this sale/manufacture/distribution for Google needs to get the axe.
rant end.
interested to see what you go with.

Has LTE but only activated for tmobile or band 4 LTE so select locations.
Unless you dont have unlimited data or in a poor coverage area, 16GB should be fine for most people. Using google music and other cloud services allows you to not use phone storage for music/pictures so more space for other stuff.
I'm personally choosing the Nexus 4 or by the time i can get it, Samsung GS4 which should be released in april/mayish in the States.
I live in the northern end of SoCal, and my signal SUCKS wit T-Mo. I did see an improvement a little after the AT&T deal fell through, but ultimately I am entirely dis-satisfied with overall reception
Of course, that may be attributed to my G2, esp because I recently dropped it in water for the first time, recently
:banghead:
So cloud services are not a viable option for me at this time. And I currently use a 16gb sd card, and had to erase a bunch of music to make room. So a 16gb phone won't cut it for moi

What I don't like about the One X+ is the lack of an SD card slot, although having 64gb internally isn't bad.

Mission upgrade completed.
After 2 years desire z going for sale.
I really enjoyed physical keyboard and I'm already missing it.
New phone Nexus 4 16GB
I never really bought the newest generations of smartphones, mainly because of monetary reasons, but I like to think I have always made a good choice.
I'm thinking about upgrading the Desire Z to a Sensation XE (I really like the looks, and the specifications are decent to me) or a One S (a bit better than what the XE offers). I really like Sense, so I will definitely upgrade to a HTC.
I went to the note 2 and I am absolutely unbelievably happy with my decision.
I had the g1 the day it came out (actually a little before since I was a pre order) same for my g2. Was thinking about going to the relay 4g but then I found it the note 2 was coming and decided to wait and check it out.
So glad I did! Didn't think I could go without a physical keyboard but then I thought maybe since the phone was bigger it would be easier. If I ever get frustrated I just whip out the s pen and use that. Comes in handy when wearing gloves too.
This thing is so fast but best of all, it has INCREDIBLE battery life! I never have to charge during the day like I used to. I still bring my charger with me out of habit but I've never even used it in the car. It's after 2 a.m. I've been going all day and I'm still at 44%. I change overnight just by habit too. Could go a day and a half with this thing. It is wonderful not having to worry about conserving battery. Just use it for whatever whenever.
Can you tell I love it? No regrets. Anyway. ..That's my upgrade story!
