[Q} S-Off noobproof superuser - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I was trying 2 S-off my htc desire.
Got it rooted along time ago and was thinking to s-off it.
I've booted the cd of alpharev, and connected my desire when it was asked. Then u should get a window that alpharev is trying to get supersuser acces. But I'm not getting it.
I've flashed 2.10.405.2 Stock ROM with Radio from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Because i got from gingervillian 1.8.
I've installed titanium backup to check if root is working but this one is asking for root so the rom is definitely rooted.
Is this a problem or can i just continue? Because I'm frighted that I'm bricking my phone if superuser is not granted.
Thnx in advance

To s-off a gsm desire you need to use alpharev.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

I've used alpharev sorry got bit confused by all the names
Alpharev 1.8 HBOOT reflash utility

Did you check usb debugging and usb charge only?

yes got it on debugging and charge only

I doesnt seem to be a rom problem either. Tried a couple of roms and still no superuser window.

Does alpharev detect your desire when you plug it in?
Maybe you should try different usb ports or a different pc for that matter. Could be a usb incompatibility or something of the sort.

Yea it detects it, and i tried to update the superuser app but this isn't helping either.

hi,
is your sd card format with ext partiton coz this get an issue with alpharev...
U should use only fat32 as far as i know.
if doubt about root U can try root checker from the market or get an emulator terminal and see if # is on (may be u soulg type su to get it)

[Q] Strange Unrooting Problems

I purchased my Desire back in June and as soon as i found out about rooting
i used the one click unrevoked 3 method. Due to it being unbranded i didnt need a gold card i simply did so. After which i had problems installing some roms and its become too difficult so ive decided to unroot it and use it as it was meant to be until i gain more knowledge.
My problem is no matter which RUU i use following the unlocker method nothing works. I continue to get the error that none of the RUUs are suitable for my phone.
I have looked through the other posts but couldnt find an answer that worked for me.
my radio is 32.44.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2

Hi,
Is your Hboot 0.93 ?
try this RUU : http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
Enter bootloader (vol.dw+power), then plug the phone to USB and run the RUU it should work...
Have u installed HTC Sync again after using unrevoked?
U need the htc drivers installed
Have u tried LeeDroid?
Running stable and fast in my Desire, I rooted nd unrooted the phone twice, but every time i go back to unroot status i get bored, so root again, i think u should try another ROM first before unroot, try mine : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Download de ROM,
Install thru ROM Manager or directly thru Recovery, but remember to Wipe data before u install make a clean install, if u still experience any issues go back to Stock...
My Hboot is 0.93.0001
Ill try the RUU tomorrow when i have enough time at my disposal
Although ill try leedroid first just in case. Hopefully it works and is good enough
thanks for the help
Just curious, but did it work?

[Q] DHD rooted using Unrevoked3

I have rooted my DHD using unrevoked3. I have super user permissions app, and clockwork mod recovery. Then I read that you can't install a custom rom without S-OFF. Do I still need to do the Visionary+ w/DHD eng script?
I thought my DHD still had S-ON but now I don't think I could have clockwork without it being off.... I'm confused.
Anyways I did go ahead and attempt the Visionary+, but perm root doesn't seem to do anything. I could probably skip that step I guess. The DHD script complains about busybox not being installed which is probably done during the perm root of visionary. I then installed Titanium Backup and did the check errors function and installed busybox. It said it installed, but terminal emulator still complains about busybox.
Confused. Can anyone help me?

are you sure you have a DHD unrevoked is for the desire/evo/wildfire ect anyway however you rooted, you can use this tool to s-off

btw if you have rooted using unrevoked and have clockwork mod installed, you dont need to s-off to flash a rom, you already have write acess to the nand in recovery
How did you do that using unrevoked on DHD?
or you remove nandlock only with unrevoked and root with visonary ?
Something isn't right here. It isn't possible to root dhd with unrevoked

Someone Swyped my idea.
Further information on Unrevoked & DHD
I seem to be having the same problem as the OP.
A bit of background: I just upgraded from my HTC Hero, and had some experience of rooting and installing custom ROMS on that device. My first job when I got my new HTC Desire HD was to get it rooted so I could get all Orange's crap off of it and have a streamlined new phone.
However, in my haste, I used Unrevoked, failing to notice the difference between a bog-standard HTC Desire and the newer HTC Desire HD. The upshot: Unrevoked *did* succeed in rooting my phone and installing ClockworkMod Recovery, but now the recovery partition thinks it's an old-fashioned HTC Desire and so won't install DHD ROMS. I can install bog-standard Desire ROMS to my heart's content.
So, I'm in a bit of a mess. I want to install a DHD ROM on my DHD, but I can't. Also, now that I've already gone through one rooting process, the standard procedure doesn't work, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I:
- try to get the phone back to its unrooted condition as it was when it came out of the box (in which case how do I do that?)
- flash a different recovery partition in the hopes that I can get it to recognise that my phone's a DHD and not an old standard Desire?
- fiddle about with the ROMs to get them to bypass the device checks (in which case how do I do that?)
Any other suggestions, let me know. It's possible I may have stumbled on a new method for rooting a DHD...
To fix it, just flash 1.32.405.6 RUU.
But I have to say, that is not possible
Desire ROMs on DHD, without S-OFF, everything is just simply wrong. Are you even sure that you have a Desire HD? Please send me a picture of your Desire HD running some Desire ROM.
oops
OK, it appears that there's a much simpler solution. Orange appear to have sent me the wrong phone.
Sigh...
Hahhahhah, good job Orange
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
ok, so to Orange's credit, I've sent back the wrong phone, and they've sent me the right one, next day delivery, having knocked 40% off the original price. Looking forward to playing with it this evening - I won't be touching Unrevoked with a barge-pole!
thanks @jkoljo for alerting me to the possibility that I might have been sent the wrong thing!
we get there in the end...
Very nice, good luck with your new phone

[Q] Probs while flashing with unrevoked3

Hi @all,
i started to root my Htc Desire via unrevoked3. Unrevoked3 says after flashing "... error. Is u firmeware to new?".
SU was installed but diddnt work. Its an T-Mobile branded Desire. Android Version 2.2.
Is Froyo not supported with unrevoked3?
What can i do?
Tx for help.

Use unrevoked 3.21.
Sent from CM7
Hi and thx for u advice. But i cant find the 3.21 Version for download. I have used the newest version but no root. I really want to root this device but i have no idea what to do. Any help?
Try again and again. Sometimes it will work after a few times. Assuming your did everything like you should do
unrevoked website has only got this for EVO 4G and Wildfire - it says "some applications from the market that cause incompatibilities" it maybe the same thing so uninstall a few apps and retry
Make a factory reset (settings - sd card and internal storage)- and then try again.
That helped me, when getting the "is your firmware to new"...
REMEMBER to backup your sd-card on to pc!!

thx... what is pvt4 and where do i have to normaly find it
greets nikkylodion
1. Power off the phone.
2. press volume down and power at the same time.
3. See on top left corner of the screen, confirm if it is PVT-4 on the screen.
If it is, most likely you have erase size 40000. This can be further confirm by issuing command in terminal 'cat /proc/mtd'.
But if you don't know how, forget about it.
Anyway...if it is pvt-4, make sure to you use amon-ra recovery instead of clockwork.

[Q] USB brick - Pulling my hair out - Please help!

Hi all
For the last few weeks I have been trying to fix my HTC Desire back to some sort of working state. After awhile, I managed to get back to stock (from CM7), but soon realised I had the USB brick and SD Card issue. For info I used the stock HTC 2.3 Gingerbread RUU and used Alpharev PB99IMG_downgrade.zip for HBOOT (I was using Alpharev S-OFF with CM7).
So, I followed this guide, http://android.modaco.com/topic/309939-usb-brickrickrolledb0rked-fixed/ and managed to mount the SD Card. However, I could not get the update.zip file to apply because I was no longer rooted.
So I followed the guide linked in the USB brick article, http://android.modaco.com/topic/307...ide-now-with-hboot-080-and-os-to-121-support/ and soon realised that I did not have the HBOOT version required. Either 0.75 and below, or, 0.80 and below. I have 1.02.0001.
Not a problem, I thought. I will follow this guide to downgrade, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 as it specifically says that "...the downgrade does not depend on any version of HBOOT" which is what I need. However, first step is to get a working Goldcard. This is where I start to get into trouble and I'm already losing track of what I'm doing, but I soldier on...
How do I create a Goldcard? I followed this guide, http://android.modaco.com/topic/305672-creating-a-goldcard/ and got stuck at running the ADB command as because my USB is broken, Windows 7 (x64) refuses to see the Phone. Luckily, my father has the same phone, so I put my SD Card into his Desire and managed to create a Goldcard (he is running CM7 on his Desire too).
So Goldcard in hand, I go back to the downgrade guide and then spot my next issue. I can't get Windows to see the phone to use ADB commands and I also can't get Windows to see the phone when it is booted up (the charge light won't even come on now), meaning I can't run the downloaded application.
Not to be outdone I went back to the Rooting Guide and tried both of the downloads with the "step1-windows.bat" command just in case they did work, but both give an error, which on searching, is to do with the HBOOT version being incompatible.
I tried putting on the PB99IMG_downgrade.zip file from Alpharev again, then re-running the HTC 2.3 Gingerbread stock RRU and taking the ROM.zip folder and re-loading it on to the phone, but it hasn't changed the HBOOT version. So my cry for help is.... how can I downgrade HBOOT without using ADB commands or having to have Windows detect my phone? I'm basically stuck with Fastboot and my SD Card.
Even though my phone looks stock, I can't call people as it disconnects straight away, the USB is broken and the battery drains stupidly quickly.
Thanks for any help!
now this IS a sticky situation.. well done on what you've done so far by the way.
On my guide there's a section on how to temproot and flash recovery without USB connection, then flash a recovery that restores usb functionality, but it's only been tested on 2.2 and S-OFF... could be worth a try though

Hi bortak,
Thanks for the reply. It is a bit of a strange situation I agree. I've been putting off signing up and posting for help as I feel quite dumb for breaking my own phone, but I have to admit defeat on this one.
I saw your reply also in this similar topic, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290391, so I will definitely try your suggestion and report back.
Appreciate you taking the time to post.
Thanks.

I still have the same problem and tried to get temp. root with the "rageagainstthecage" and terminal emulator method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639&page=73
But I had no luck. There is no way to write the Misc patition... I´d like to downgrade (to Froyo), but without USB it seems to be impossible. Alpharev did not work. Revolutionary needs USB !USB brick with official Gingerbread, S-ON and HBoot 1.02 seems to be a dead end so far....

well this sucks, it's also strange how there is so many people at once with exactly same problem as well!
you could call HTC and ask if they'd fix it for you, and say that this happened after you did the update.

I´ll have a try
just fixed my desire 1 hour ago and it works.
look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1296916
What I did:
I was able to connect my pc and phone through wi-fi and adb worked (adb connect phones-IP-address ) and then pushed, chmod'd 755 and executed zergrush. Gained root via cmd with adb shell in windows and after that I just pushed flash_image and mtd0.img to phone and ran it like you supposed to in the guides (chmod 755 and execute). Rebooted and voila! USB connection is working and now my phone signal isn't dropping anymore - phone fixed!
I fixed my unrootet Phone (official GB 2.3.3, HBoot 1.02, S-ON, USB Brick)!!!!
I wifi connected with adb and got temp root with zergRush!
Then from cmd in adb shell I flashed the misc with mtd0.img!
Rebooting and everything was fine ))
Many thanks to all of you!!!

You may now want to install 4ext touch recovery now u have sorted it. This has a USB unbrick feature and will save a lot of time should this happen again

I can't do both of this, because my phone is not recognized by PC in any way, i must root it without PC.
If you have 2.3 connect to same wifi as your pc and adb connect to your phone's IP. Then run zergrush and you will have temproot over adb from your pc. Then you can flash your mtd0.img and your brick will be resolved

The phone is not seen by pc in any statement, not in bootloader, or fastboot, or recovery. I need to either downgrade to 2.29 rom version, or to root it in some way.

You can root and s-off htc desire cdma running hboot 1.06 froyo 2.2, here is how

All you have to do is download the revolutionary package and unrevoked 3. You guys should all know about the usb debugging and stuff so you have to s-off before you root it's weird. Also you must install htc sync on your computer for it to work. Or atleast i did. So with htc sync installed and phone set to usb debugging and charge only run alpharev with the betta key it gives you let it do it's process could take a few minutes after it says complete and closes run unrevoked 3. It might scare you and apear to have bricked your phone I know it scared the hell outta me but just pull the battery out and it will reboot normal. Then your good to go with a fully rooted s-off htc desire running hboot 1.06 i currently installed cyanogen 7.0.3 but i'm going back because i'm having problems with google apps so i'm going to re do it. Thanks guys. Took me forever to figure this out for some reason. lol
just found out that the screen that you might think looks like you bricked is actually changing the radio so don't panic and wait for them to say done or finshed. Alpharev will close it's self.
You don't need unrevoked at all
