[Q] 32 gb mico SD card repeatedly "damages" itself for no good reason - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have an Epic 4G for Sprint, never unlocked, stock ROM Android 2.2.1 EC05.
I recently bought and inserted a 32 gb microSDcard from Amazon (search "Patriot Signature 32 GB Class 10 MicroSDHC Flash Memory Card PSF32GMCSDHC10", can't insert hyperlinks yet).
I once made the mistake of NOT unmounting the card when disconnecting from my Windows 7 64-bit desktop. The phone told me the card was damaged and had to be formatted. I did this and everything seemed back to normal, although my card was wiped clean.
Since then the phone has randomly shown me with the same message twice, even when it has not been plugged into a PC or a wall charger for hours. Wiping the card clean has been my only option both times.
Ever since the failed Froyo update and the patch, my phone has had multiple annoyances, sudden freezes of the notification pulldown etc. I can't exactly pinpoint when the MicroSD failure happens or if something causes it. otherwise the card is fast and read/write speeds are excellent - 30.91 gb available. Both times the phone was at low battery, but not zero battery.
I do have Advanced Task Killer (start when Android starts) and a free app to move apps 2 SD. Both were downloaded from the Market.
Please help! Not having reliable memory means I can't do much with my phone at all. If its a bad card, then oh no! But if there are ways to troubleshoot or just discard this card and get another one.

When you format the card, are you doing it from within the phone or Windows?

Always from my phone. It won't let me do anything else unless I format it.

Try taking it out of the phone, then formatting it directly from the computer, FAT32 format.

Put it in an SD card adapter, formatted to FAT 32 in Windows. That took half an hour. Everything is good so far. Any other precautions I can take ? Thanks again.
Alternately, is there a SD card and/or phone contacts backup utility you guys recommend.

If your contacts are saved to your google account it should automatically sync them.
Alternatively, you could save them to your SD card and then copy the entire contents of your SD card to your computers HD.

There is a bunch of generic micro sd 32gb cards that do not function properly even they are not truly 32gb as they say, I had one of those and nothing but problems I think it was like around actual 4gb but they made to appear like 32gb.

I'd disagree. Don't run it in the background or use the autokill functions, but it does let you kill more apps than the built in task manager. That's useful for when some apps freeze or get started in the background but aren't showing in task manager.

I'm surprised there aren't many more advocates of Watchdog on here. It's a very efficient monitor of app activity, much smarter, and gives you much better options to decide whether you really need to kill an app process or not (rarely should you need to). The widget on my home screen has become essential for me.

Apps2SD+ non damaged edition?

Hello!
I'm wondering if there's anything out there that does what Apps2SD+ does but takes out the unfortunate bit of me needing to reformat and restore every other day because of the SD card becoming damaged.
Thanks guys!
Are you disconnecting your phone from pc only while in "charge only" mode?
That is the main reason for corrupted sd cards, there are no issues with a2sd+
You mean if I plug the phone into my computer to charge only, there's a step I have to take before I simply pull the plug?
No, file transfer to/from sd card (disk drive mode), you need to return it to "charge only" before unplugging usb, as it can cause sd card to unmount by itself, and finally stop working
Ahh. I see. Thank you, I'll do that then from now on.

Hmm.. did everything right and it broke again. *sigh* now to start the several hour long process of extracting everything off the damaged MicroSD card that I want, formatting it (which only Windows XP can do for some reason) and restoring the ROM on the internal phone storage (since it now can't boot up with or without the damaged card in).
Apps2SD+ is just too great to abandon for this reason, so I guess I won't use disk mode again. Kind of a pain in the *** if I want to transfer anything big. Dropbox is pretty awesome, but it'll only get you so far.
This makes me wonder if there's some kind of threshold or number of apps you can have installed through Apps2SD+ where if you do anything over that number, there's just too much going on to enter and exit disk mode successfully.

there must be somthing wrong with your sd card pal. im using apps2sd+ with a 1gig ext3 partiton, i must have 2 or 300 apps easly and its never happened to me, maybe you should move the dalvik cache back to your fone as the constant i/o does wear down sd cards quickly

And again today... I've finally retired my 8gig MicroSD (the problematic one) to my Canon. I guess it's that 2nd partition that just pushes it over the edge. Or it's just plain defective, as has been suggested. Looks like I'll be falling back on the 4gig the Desire came with. It won't be my main music / podcast player, so that capacity should be more than enough.

FroYo + ADB App2SD: Goodbye, Kingston microSDHC?

Good eveneing dear community
I realize that FroYo was a major leap forward for quite a few of us, especially those limited in phone storage (I'm talking about Nexus One and Desire owners in particular). However, I think there is something seriously wrong with those App2SD capabilities.
I recently got the impression that moving applications to SD storage is killing SD cards too fast. Just after the first official FroYo OTA, I discovered and used the posibility to force move applications to SD storage using ADB shell. The result was that virtually any application could be moved out of the phone's internal storage. So far, so good.
But considering that we get updates from the market every few hours, SD cards are under much more pressure now than they were designed to, aren't they? I'm saying this, because in the exact same configuration I mentioned above, my cards keep dying. Before the OTA, I bought an expensive class 10 Kingston microSDHC card and the performance was indeed remarkable. However, after the OTA and my ADB stunt, my card would get mounted as read-only every few days now. In addition to that, I can't run any applications on the card anymore and the entire system becomes unstable. Unmounting the card using the Android system settings is not possible and neither is formatting. Instead, my phone would sometimes reboot. At first I thought this was a problem with my Kingston SD.
When I ran some tests and did the same things with the official 4 GB card that shipped with my phone as well as with another 8 GB card that came with an older Nokia phone of mine I realized that it wasn't a problem specific to my Kingston card. All of them showed the exact same behavior. This is not just annoying, it also causes data loss, which in my case is unnacceptable!
Has anybody experienced the same? Is this a problem of Android 2.2 or is it just the way microSDHC works? What, besides mounting said damaged cards in a Laptop in attempt fix, can we do about it?
Thank you for any suggestions.
My next phone must have at least 8 GB of internal storage...
Define "dying".
If by dying you mean Android reports there's something wrong with your card, then more likely the problem is software-related rather than the SD being overused.
I got the "your card is fubar" message from my phone but it was as a result of me damaging the file system with a sketchy file manager app. I put it in my computer, did a scandisk. This found the problem, fixed it, I put it back in my phone, voila, perfect again.
Or your problem might be related to the method you're forcibly moving the apps to your SD card. Since you're doing it with ADB rather than through the operating system itself, it's possible apps are corrupting your card's file system as a result of not realizing where they're located. Just a guess.
In any case, SD cards don't (and won't) die from the sort of use you're describing. What might be harmful is storing frequently-used cache on your SD card, but that's not something that you're doing.
Keep in mind that SD cards are intended to be used in cameras, camcorders, etc, and these things write a lot more frequently and aggressively to the card than a little app storage here and there.
I'm not exactly an expert but I'm definitely what I'd call an enthusiast, and let me tell you with certainty: you really have nothing to worry about. Your problem is most likely a software (or related file system issue) or else caused by a one-in-a-thousand random hardware defect. Android, or more specifically, app to SD, isn't a problem.
Maybe you've heard of solid state drives for computers, these are becoming more common. I use one in fact. They operate using technology similar to SD card storage and if ANYTHING was going to stress these things, it would be running a whole computer off them, temp files and all.
Finally, if you're still a little afraid, let me remind you that in fact your phone itself uses the same kind of flash storage as an SD card. Every phone, MP3 player, and similar device does. So in a sense, if wearing out your storage is a concern for you, isn't it better to wear out a replaceable SD card than your phone's irreplaceable internal storage?
----
So now assuming you trust me that there's nothing to worry about, I would suggest you stop forcibly moving apps to your SD card as a possible long-term solution. If you stop getting card problems, you know what the problem was. Since this means you'll run low on storage, I'd then suggest you install a custom OS that allows you to force-move apps from within Android itself, such as Cyanogenmod.
I've been using this mod since it came out and have had no problems. As mentioned above it must be software related to your phone.

Thank you so much for calming me down. I just got the impression that my cards are toast. However, as long as there is a possibility to fix this using my laptop, I'm on the good side.
I disabled that ADB stunt, let's look what the next few days bring.
Just an idea: if your phone (or the sd slot, for that matter) would be somehow messed up, wouldn't that show the same symptoms? It would even explain why _every_ card acts that way. Maybe it's a bad contact in the slot, who knows...

[Q] Some random questions about 4G Touch

I have a few questions that have been accumulating that I would like to get the answers to. If you know the answer to any of the below please chime in.
1. There are a few grayed-out icons that are in my app menus from applications that I have uninstalled and some that are duplicates of applications that I still have installed. Any way to clear these out? I'm assuming these are a result from using the move2sd application at some point.
2. I have Vlingo start automatically when I connect a bluetooth headset. It finds it necessary to remind me how many missed calls I have since I last flashed the phone... I'm up to almost a 100 now. Any way to stop it from doing this?
3. I currently use a suction cup phone holder in my car. Is there any way to have it emulate the official Samsung car dock by going into car mode when I plug the power cable in or is this specific to the Samsung dock? Are there any alternatives to the Samsung car dock with this capability?
4. Whenever I mount the phone as a USB device it reboots itself after I unmount and disconnect the USB cable. Is this normal?
5. My phone is rooted but I have to have a password on it since I use it for work. Is there any way to NOT have it lock immediately after I use the power button to turn the screen off? In other words, I just want it to lock based on the Screen unlock settings timeout value. I know there are some widgets that will do this but I'd rather press the power button instead of scrolling to the screen with a widget.
Thanks for the help!
Argh... no one knows the answer to ANY of these???

If they're still in the list they're probably stock apps that are designed not to be uninstalled. You can remove updates for them but the original app stays. In this case, Titanium Backup is a generally recommended solution to really uninstall those. Just please check what you're doing before you uninstall it.
I snipped #2 and #3 and #5 below as I don't have an answer for those.

Not in my experience. Please make sure you have the current version for the drivers on your PC. If not running a stock ROM you may want to try that (ex. EL29 Rooted or not) and see how it behaves.

Nope, not stock apps. For instance I have two icons for Amazon... one color and one greyed out. Another for "Drawing Pad"... a program that I uninstalled, another dual icon for Google goggles, and another grayed out icon for PNF Lite, a game that I uninstalled.

OK, thanks for the feedback.. I didn't think that this was normal. I think I'll wait until ICS and then reload everything from scratch, including the SD card. I hoping that this rebooting is not damaging to the file/file structure. I only transfer files about once weekly to sync up passwords. The rest of the stuff I just move through dropbox and such.

Hmm... possible that you had these installed and moved to SDCard and they're no longer there? That may explain that as well.
And just so I'm making sure that we're talking the same thing, you're talking about inside Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All, correct?
I was actually referring to the "Applications" button off of the main screen, which shows all the applications... but you gave me an idea... I checked manage apps and removed (uninstalled) all the single instance grayed applications. The ones where both the color and gray icons are present are still there.
Is there a "cache" for the manage applications that I could try clearing?
Otherwise I'll try to uninstall and reinstall completely but I think I may have tried that route already.
Thanks for the help!
Couldn't you open the app drawer and push menu. Go to edit then long click on the icon and click the x to remove? Also in my experience when I remove an app a reboot should fix the apps still showing as greyed out. But you could also reboot recovery and wipe dalvik and cache it should remove those upon reboot

Thanks, I just D/Led the app. Yes, I always use the safe eject option on the PC. Maybe it's some crucial app that shouldn't be on the SD card that is doing this? I'm actually getting a little more concerned about this because I've come back to a the phone a few times with an "SD card was unexpectedly removed" message waiting and ALL the apps on the SD card greyed out.
+1 thanks to all of you!
I experience number 1 quite often too and yes it has to do with moving apps to sd. I think this phone has issues reading sd cards. Only way I can remember fixing this is by playing around and switching the apps back and forth between phone and sd or sometimes tapping on both icons for the app on the app drawer will magically make the grayed out one disappear lol.. I'm using my sd card from my og epic which is a class 2. Maybe this phone needs a better quality sd card.. All I know is if I move all my movable apps to sd card my phone will go into a bootloop frenzy until I remove the sd card and let it boot without it. Then I would put the card back on and hope it won't reboot while scanning media (which it did sometimes) till eventually I would get lucky n get a full scan without rebooting. Now I only move a few apps n not all lol

Hmm, I'll have to try the double-icon tap trick. I have not experienced the boot issue. The last two cards that I've used have been class 10 cards, the current one being a Samsung. I would hope that their phone would work well with their cards. I did have issues with the first version of the Patriot 32GB Class 10 card that I previously used in the phone, but a replacement card with updated firmware seemed to have alleviated most of the issues. Nevertheless I switched to a Samsung card since I have a lot of mission critical info on my phone.
On another note I just ran out of space on the "internal SD" storage and since I'm not sure if there is a way to force apps to move to the "external SD" card, I guess I won't be moving apps to SD any longer.
Actually the apps go directly into the sd. They never go into the internal memory. I know that sounds weird being that when moving apps it shows you the available internal memory but as you move them you will see it won't decrease. That's because its actually going to the sd card. I confirmed this by checking my sd space from the storage section and it did decrease. And my sd card is a Samsung its from the first Epic

Suggested Fixes
1. - This sounds as if you have a corrupt SD Card. I suggest reformatting it. If this doesn't work, switch roms and do a clean install of said rom...
2. - Manually clear the calls
3. - I think this was already answered
4. - Try answer 1 above
5. - Samsung made the pw protected lockscreen this way. You can try the widget if you like.
BTW, if my answers for 1 and 4 don't work, go back to stock UNROOTED and see if the issues persist. If they do, go back to sprint. Your phone is not acting the way it should...

I'm unclear about how the install location is actually determined... I know that if the SD card is unmounted then a lot of the normally available programs go gray so I know those are installed on the external SD card.... however, the "internal SD", or "USB storage" on my phone is almost completely full so not everything is getting installed on the external (plugged in) SD card. Apps have a separate place where they go. It has a built in 2GB for apps that's separate from the internal memory. So apps are either installed there or the external sd card. Your internal must be full with other stuff like music, movies, photos and things of that nature.
Edit: Game apps even tho they don't install into the USB storage they do copy all files like the music and stuff into the USB storage. That can also be draining your space

Tablet destroying SD cards?

In August, I bought a 128GB PNY microSD card. It lasted almost two months, and then the tablet started acting funny. It would randomly unmount the card, it couldn't find my music files, and apps I had moved to the card would just disappear. I assumed the card was broken, so I eventually replaced it with a 128GB Samsung card. It's worked fine until the other day, when it started exhibiting the exact same behavior. I haven't been able to fix it.
I've tried formatting them both, but nothing seems to work. Windows can see the cards and the contents, but it's not able to format either card - it reads them both as write-protected, even though they're not. The only thing I can think that might cause it besides my tablet is Link2SD. I use this to move the large app data to the card since I only have 16GB of regular space. Could this be causing it? I'm at a loss, and I can't keep buying new cards. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I regularly read this forum and this is the first time I've heard of an issue as described. I bought a a cheaper 64Gb mSD card and used it with my Tab S day one. I've never had an issue. Could be you just have been unlucky? Were your cards from recognized brands? I suspect that the larger GB cards have lower yields so you need to buy a better quality card.

I definitely won't rule out being unlucky, it's definitely in my blood. I just find it odd the exact same thing would happen to two cards, months apart and with different brands and purchasing locations. PNY isn't super awesome, but they're not garbage, and Samsung is fairly prominent.
Samsung phones and tablets are occasionally said to be sd card killers. The GS3 definitely was, killed like 3 cards with the same result as you got.
Sometimes I feel it also affects certain sizes of card. The GS3 ate 16gb cards, but not 32gb cards. So it's quite possible that a different size card may have a longer life.
Not saying this has any base in research, just my experience.

I've read this on other forums as well, specifically the GS3 part. I wish there was a way to be sure. What happened to destroy the cards?
I am using a Samsung 64GB and Link2SD. Haven't encountered any issue so far. But on a related topic, I managed to destroy a 1 year old Sandisk USB drive yesterday while trying to format it as NTFS. Now Windows won't recognise it al all. It could just be that the flash memory had defects to begin with.
Does Windows make the bell sound when you insert your microsd, if it does you should be able to recover it, if it does not and you have checked the reader is working the microsd might be dead, if you have an sdhc adapter see if a camera or any other device will recognize the card, if it does format it in that device then see if windows will see it, I had an 16GB microsd a few years ago completely die when i froze while i was copying music to my phone, nothing would recognize the card after that it was totally dead, and i got a refund.

Windows does recognize the card, and I can see the contents of it and copy all content OFF the card. However, trying to format it just tells me the disk is write protected. I've done everything in my power to try to unlock the disk, including third-party programs and commands in the DOS prompt, but it's still write-protected. So bizarre!
I had the write protect problem on an card myself a few years ago, I downloaded an app that let me remove the protection and the card worked fine after that.
Does the write protection stop a camera from formatting the card, or only windows, as i said it`s been years since i had my problem.
Have you tried a partition manger app, I have used the one below for years, but i dont know if it will be blocked by the write protection as well.

I actually don't own a camera, the only things I have that take SD cards are computers and Android tablets/phones. I haven't tried that particular partition manager (Chrome won't let me download it - it says it's unsafe?), but the Windows manager and an HP one someone recommended both say "Failed to format disk."
I have uploaded the app i used, It years old so i most likely does not work but you can give it a try.

I would download partition wizard with another browser or force chrome to download it. Its a perfectly legitimate app which I've used many a time.
You need a low level format and partitioning software like that. Windows is useless on its own.
Delete the sd card partition, recreate and reformat.

I downloaded it through Edge, and everything worked fine. It even seemed like it was going to work, until I hit "apply". Then it sat and thought for a while, and told me there was an error with the format of the disk. Instead of trying to recreate 2 partitions, I tried to just see if it would format at all, and when I applied that change, it said it completed successfully, but the disk was still in it's former state - full of my files, fully readable, and definitely not formatted. I feel like this stupid thing is haunted.
So for this problem, can anyone give me an opinion on whether it's hardware or software based? Such as, do you believe this is happening because it's a Samsung tablet, or with a bug on their current Android version? I'm hesitant to keep putting cards in it, but I want to use my tablet!

It was rooted, but it was on stock 5.0.2. I used root to run Link2SD.
Link2SD only moves apps not music, so why did your music disappear, have you used any cleaning apps as they can delete files that you want to keep.

Well I had Link2SD moving all kinds of crap. It was linking games, books, comics, magazines...lots of stuff. My music didn't disappear - in fact, nothing did. It's all still there, only the tablet can't see it. My computer can see it, I can copy and open the files, but I can't write anything new to the card, and I can't format it.
It sounds like your tablet is loosing the location of the files on your microsd, I would say Link2SD is at fault, I would give the developer a email with the problem your are having and see what they say.
EDIT: I just read the reviews of LINK2SD and some people are reporting files are disappearing.

@greycobalt: I recently had Link2SD card stop mounting the 2nd partition (formatted as ext2, that is used for Link2SD).
I'm using a SanDisk 64 GB micro SD.
1) Did you have this same problem? Were you able to recover your app files when you put the SD card into your computer?
2) Oddly enough, I can see the files on the 1st partition of the card, which is formatted to FAT32 and I can see everything on that in file explorer. You said that these even disappear?
3) What file format did you have for your microSD for Link2SD to be able to link apps to it?

Saving pictures to SD Card

Have an SD card, formatted it for the phone. The phone doesnt let me change storage location for pictures taken. Is there an easy way to do this that I overlooked?

I would imagine it's in one of three places:
1) In the camera app settings
2) Gallery settings
3) Haven't opened my Razer Phone yet, but,I'd also look in the general phone settings, guessing there's a storage section, perhaps it's there.
Once you do find it,if it's something you frequently access/change,you should be able to create a shortcut to it on your home screen, since Nova Launcher is the default U/I for the home screen(s)/app drawer.

1. It's not there.
2. The only gallery pre-installed is google photos, and it's not there either.
3. Not there.
Ive been on chat support with Razer all day. They need to "examine" this in their lab, as this is a huge concern.
They said within a day or 2 someone will be getting back to me.
Do you currently have an SD Card installed?
I don't on the phone I'm using ATM (Note FE) & there's nothing there for storage settings, until an SD Card is installed.
If you have an SD Card installed, then it indeed sounds like someone dropped the ball in the software department....

Yeah very strange...I doubt I'll hear anything from them. I'm surprised an issue this severe isn't being reported by other people.
I've done everything there is to do. factory resetting the phone, formatting the cards, in and outside of the phone. using other camera apps, other galleries...it's like the camera app and the sd slot aren't linked somehow. I switch phones often, and take alot of pictures, and never have any problem transferring the card between phones.
I guess lesson learned with using a debut device. Hopefully theres some kind of software fix soon. otherwise this thing is going back.
I have no option in the default camera app either to change storage location.. I also have a sd card inserted and formatted correctly as I can access it in other apps just fine.. There literally just isn't any option to choose location!

Perhaps in the meantime, you can move the photos in the gallery app using a file exploer,or,the SanDisk app.
Not a long-term permanent solution by any means....
........Since this is near-stock Android experience, almost sounds like the photo storage software was ripped from the Pixel twins,as neither have an SD Card slot....
On the topic of SD Cards I have a few questions as regarding this. I have been using iOS since the 3GS and new to Android and this would be my 1st Android device.
I am not an app heavy user and have all the apps I use already on the internal storage and running at 17.67GB out of the 58.90GB.
1) Would an SD card be worth buying 256GB Class 10 U1 card to be used to just storage Photos and Videos?
(only reason on size is because I just want the biggest storage on one card rather than on lots of smaller ones.)
2) With unlimited data on my phone is it worth buying an SD Card at all if Google Photos is a thing?
(I dont like the idea of my media just being in the cloud which why im unsure what to do here)

An SD Card is more of a nice option in your scenario, but,it's one I'd recommend to have.
However, I'd recommend getting the fastest card you can buy with the same money you're willing to spend on the card you mentioned.
Get a U3 rated card, even if that means a lesser amount of extra storage, quality over quantity......

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly I have concerns about the type of card thats best for the phone as Razer's spec site only says it can handle up to Class 10 and when I asked about U1-U3 they kinda didnt mention it at all.
Would a U1 or U3 work in a class 10 supported device and not give the extra read/write performance or will it not work at all?

I'd be lying if I said I knew with 100% certainty, but, I'll be putting a Samsung 256 GB SD Card (U3) in my Razer later today & I'll follow up with what I find then/post here in this thread.

Thanks for testing this for me if i dont get any benefit out of the U1-U3 in performance i may just grab a Class 10 as I will want to format it for the device as I don't plan on moving SD cards between devices as I only have two devices using this media and the other is in my Nintendo Switch so again formatted for that device.
With Black Friday coming up Id like to get it sorted soon so i know what to buy.

My apologies, back on topic ...... :good:
BTW,I have the unlocked version/carrier-free.
Finally opened mine up,after initial set-up,had a 250MB update out-of-the-box,still nada regarding camera/photo/video storage options.
I found an app in the Google Play Store,Open Camera, that has the option:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera&hl=en
I tried to enter an alternate file (from my external SD Card) & it wouldn't take.
Looked in developer options,as I'm sure you have already, nothing specific for media/photos,just the adoptable storage option for (non-system) apps.
Just took a look @ Razer Insider/Forums,nothing set up for Razer Phone just yet.
https://insider.razerzone.com/index.php?forums/mobile/
Priorities for users here run the gamut, but,I'd safely guess most here would put fixing this near the top of Razer's priorities for bug fixes/updates.
@iStasis Sent you a PM..............
Got the phone last Saturday. This is the only issue I really have so far.
Submitted a support email. Hopefully this gets resolved soon. I suggest everyone submit a ticket for this and hopefully it will get resolved faster.
Having to same issue here. There is a camera app up date coming according to razer so maybe there will be a fix for it in the update
I guys spoke to razer about this and this is what they said
If the SD card is set to Internal storage, you have the option to migrate all the data. Then the default location of the data will be the SD card including the camera.
Have not tried it yet but will tomorrow
Slightly related, I can't seem to be able to transfer any files to my MicroSD card I've been using on my S8 and have it shown in the phone.... It won't show anything I transfer to it other than a System Volume Information folder that shows up for whatever reason.
Just copy/move your photos to your SD card manually.
Go to Settings>>Storage>>Internal shared storage>>Images.
Select the image you want to move/copy by long pressing the image file icon, tap the three dot menu on the top right, your SD card should show up from the left menu tree. From there, select the directory you want to move to on the SD card and voila.
Hope that helps.

THX,but, that isn't what were looking for, most here know how to move pix from one spot to another.
We are wanting the option to choose the storage location , before the picture/video is taken, not just moving it afterwards.
