I'm kinda new to all this root stuff so I hope you guys can help me out .
So here's the problem;
Recently I've been trying to explore the world of rooting and with a little help of a friend I was finally able to root my DHD with these guides (I also did the engineering s-off thing):
From addictivetips
*Since I'm a new user I can't post any links. Please PM me if you want the links*
After that I flashed cyanogenmod on it, but now I want to go back to stock rom to prepare for the gingerbread update coming soon from HTC.
So I flashed back this rom:
HTC Desire HD Stock ROM from MoDaCo
*Same as above*
All went fine and stuff but there are a few problems after I flashed the last rom:
- I can't enter recovery mode the normal way: When I press volume up+power button, the phone will vibrate 3 times and the little (orange) led light will keep flashing and it stays that way until I pull the battery. I can get into recovery mode through rom manager and hboot though.
- Hboot doesn't work properly anymore (first it did and I could get into recovery through hboot, but not anymore). When I get into hboot it will show the usual menu, but it will not respond to anything I do. After some seconds it automatically starts doing some weird things that I don't understand, giving the following message:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PD98DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PD98DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PD98IMG.zip]
After this a new message appears:
Parsing... [SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER
[2] BOOT
[3] RECOVERY
[4] SYSTEM
[5] USERDATA
[6] SPLASH1
[7] SPLASH2
[8] TP
[9] TP
[10] TP
[11] TP
[12] RADIO_V2
[13] RADIO_CUST
Do you want to start update?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
If I press update, it will load but nothing will happen (First time I flashed the stock rom, I got into a bootloop and this 'update' helped me out of it for some reason, but as for now, it keeps displaying the same message, but no noticeably changes this time)
Also: This problem does NOT occur when my sd-card is removed.
Now the REAL problem I've actualy wanted to go to; I can't update to the latest official release of HTC. I did update once after I flashed the rom and now I'm running version 1.32.405.6 right now, but if I try to find a new update it says that it can't find any and that I'm running the latest version already...
I want to update to gingerbread as soon as it comes out and I don't think I will be able to if I can't even upgrade to the 1.72 update...
The other 2 problems above were only mentioned because it makes figuring out the problem a lot harder and I figured that it may have something to do with this problem. First I thought it wouldn't really matter, because I'm not going to enter recovery and hboot anyway, but I do need it now, to solve this problem I guess..
So, any suggestions?
The bootloader problem: You have the PD98IMG.zip on your sd card so your bootloader wants to install it. Boot your phone and delete it from sd.
Recovery: its normal that the only thing you get is that triangle.
Ota update: 1.32 is the newest firmware at the moment. 1.72 was pulled due to some bugs

Wow, it really was all this simple? Thanks for the help! Just weird that the triangle is actually normal... Never saw that mentioned somewhere before..

Hello folks,
First of all can I say what a great site this is and how many super and generous people there are who help out twits like me every day!
I have rooted and flashed my phone many, many times, so I am not a Noob as such, though I am stuck on this one....
Here's my issue......
Got phone back from HTC repair - New motherboard - Worked fine.
HBOOT 0.93
I rooted phone using Unrevoked version 3
Then I installed LeeDroid 2.2d - latest version from XDA developers.
Phone worked fine for a few days.
I downloaded a few apps and synced calendars etc.
Then this morning - I unplugged my charger from the phone and Bang.....Phone seems to be not working, my Calendars are blank, so I decided to reboot phone.....................
Now I am unable to get past the HTC White Logo screen. AND I cannot access Recovery mode or Clockworkmod.
Though I can get to the Hboot screen by holding the down key and power.
Cannot boot into recovery though even from this menu.
The initial Recovery bit - the green writing that pops up when the phone looks at the recovery image, seems to be saying something like wrong image - Below.
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
I have rebooted several times, but no good.
I have plugged my Desire in to PC and gone into Fastboot mode and then tried to install the Stock HTC RUU by running the exe from my computer.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
However I just get either error 131 or Error 140 depending on which SD card I put into the phone..........
This has got me completely stumped? Am I bricked completely or is there a way around this?
Any ideas?
HELP!!!!!!!! - I thought I was good at this!
Download a PB99IMG.zip from www.shipped-roms.com
put it into the root of your sdcard and it should reflash without a problem.
Well i don't know why both your recovery and system has got corrupted without you doing a thing to it. It usually only happens if you messed something up.. Not saying you have, but now would be the time to tell
Otherwise everything you say is exactly what i would expect your phone to do.
First of all the green writing in hboot is not a look at the recovery but a check to see, if you have put a zip file with that name on the sd-card. This is just an alternative to using the ruu.exe
Second of all the stock rom you try to flash may contain an older hboot version og something similar, which is just giving you the error because you are not allowed to downgrade to an earlier software/hboot version. Try the newest one instead with your goldcard in the phone of cause.
And finally no you are not even close to a brick here seriously some people should take a deep breath and read through the forum(not specifically you but people in general. There is just too many topics with people screaming heeelp i have no idea what i did to my phone). Theres plenty of solutions, and it is quite hard to actually brick the phone. Unless you actually tried pulling the battery while flashing a hboot or radio update almost any other software problems are easily solved, because of the way this system is build.
edit: and if you try the above suggested by h3llb3nd4. You should be aware that your phone model on that page is bravo and not desire, which is the cdma desire. So if your phone has a sim card you should pick bravo. You still have to choose one with a similar or newer software and hboot version than your current.
Hi guys,
The latest with the saga is.
I managed to get the latest Froyo RUU to run and install successfully on my phone.
However - Phone still will not get past the HTC white screen, it just sticks there.
I am pretty much out of ideas now?
h3llb3nd4, thank you for your advice, I will give this a go, but as I cannot access any menu's to do a reflash I'm not sure I understand how this can help me? - Not that I'm saying it won't, it's probably my lack of knowledge.
Otherwise, I have to say this phone seems to be a big trouble. I mean even a successful RUU install and still no reboot? Weird
Thanks so much for your help and advice...keep those ideas coming

Well I tried this, and placed the zip file onto the root of SDCard. However then I restarted phone and it simply stuck at the HTC screen as before?
Do I need to do anything else? - I cannot access recovery to install from zip card.
Do I need to unzip the zip file? or maybe rename it?
Also I am now installed with the latest froyo Bravo RUU Rom 2.10, so the image file that is for 1.21 may not be right for this?
Help........
Put PB99IMG.zip on to the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader (power on with vol down held down).
The bootloader will automatically scan the SD card root for an update file and install it. That should get your back to running stock again.

Hi Bigstoo,
Sooo close, it actually started reading the PB99IMG.Zip file. However it failed to update sadly.
The error message was "update fail"
Could this be that the ROM image that is on the phone is a higher one than this PB99IMG file? Is there one that is suitable for use with
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed
Thanks though! - Nearly there maybe..............

Right I have found the correct PB99IMG file for my current stock Rom.
The phone found it in Bootlaoder and went right through the installation process correctly and successfully......................
Outcome - Phone still not working at stuck at the HTC White screen.
I would say it's now looking like hardware issue to me? I cannot think of anything else that might get this bloody phone to work again...............
Sheeeesh

Everything went as planned, however now when i try to reboot the device to recovery, i get a Phone Icon with Red Triangle & An Exclaimation Sign. And then i use the Up Arrow Key with Power I guess i reach the recovery screen with error at the bottom saying:

Thanks, this just saved me another night of google-ing. Sometimes it surprises me how simple some things can be.
I'm also having the same issue however doing S-OFF and then trying it again does not fix it for me . Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Just to confirm, you are rooted and have S-OFF, turned phone off but now when you try to turn phone on you get the red triangle? Or when you try to get back to recovery?
What version of CWM recovery are you using?
What step of the guide did you get to?
Im using this guide..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954997
I'm on part c #1..
My phone right now has the following settings..
Android Version - 2.2
Baseband Version - 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Build number - 1.32.405.6 CL278359 release keys
Software number - 1.32.405.6
Browser version - WebKit 3.1
I can boot into the android OS but when I try to use CWM (3.0.2.6) and install ROM from SD Card the red triangle with the ! mark comes up.
Yes I am rooted and I did the S-OFF
Not sure if it matters but I don't have an update.zip file on my sd card.
Anyone?
Really need help
Hi, did you find any other way to solve the problem? I am having the same problem and am not having any success what so ever.

i have the same E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command error in stock recovery and im thinking it is related to a emmc called M4G2DE that is known for causing bricks
Hello,
after release (Roottato) I could successfully installed the ROM MIUI 2.3.7c following the guide on the first post,
ok just do not know why I did not have root permissions,
So I tried to redo the unlocking with Advanced Hack Kit Ace, but at some point you are stuck staying the screen that says HTC, I waited about 30 minutes pensado he was working, but nothing, I disconnected everything and then when I turned the phone on me HTC was always marked with the white screen,
Then I went into recovery planning to clean up everything and reinstall the ROM, but going into recovery I check a phone icon with the red triangle,
them by pressing vol + and power gives me this error "E: Can not open / cache / recovery / command"
I up the options between which "apply sdcard_update.zip"
the start and it says it can not find the file.
how can I fix this?
ok problem solved : D
How was this solved?
Sent from my Motorola Startac running ICS.
First I put the file on the SD-PD98IMG GB2.zip (renamed PD98IMG.zip) in the zipped file aahk-17122011, so I went to recovery. The DHD has asked me if I wanted to continue with the update: accepted, and 5-time ', my DHD was working again and downgraded
So I repeated the procedure for rootarlo BUT before you press 1, on the advice of my guardian angel of the development team dell'aahk, I pressed t, because 'the DHD appears to have problems with fastboot: all went smoothly!
Help!!!
I rooted my phone then installed clockworkmod recovery v3 (not sure if it is actually there)
I installed Radio S-off but upon getting to the bootloader I see ENG S-off
I used ROM Manager to flash the Android_Revolution_HD_2.0.13.
I ticked the wipe data and cache but didn't tick the backup existing rom (noo!)
Upon rebooting it is now stuck on the HTC logo screen =[
I got into the bootloader screen and tried the following:
*factory reset -> ended up going to the HTC logo again
*recovery -> goes to HTC logo again
pretty much choosing any option = HTC logo
I've tried formating my SD card but that didn't change anything
sniff sniff
Help please!!!!!!!
Are you running clockwork mod 3.0.0.6? if not, update to that and that should fix your flashing problems. Not more than 2 hours ago i was in your same situation
Are you using the dhd from telus or elsewhere?
Oh, I believe I installed 3.0.0.5
How do I update to 3.0.0.6, I cannot get into the recovery menu =[=[
I've been stuck with this problem for the last 4 hours XD, I'm reading all the forum threads to try and find a solution
Oh yes I'm on Vodafone
Are you able to start the process over again?
just search clockwork mod 3.0.0.6 and there is a thread here with a zip file you can download and upgrade to ver .6

Can you get into recovery? try flashing the ROM from recovery and see if that helps. I have seen many people who say that their DHD is stuck at boot screen. And almost all of them have used ROM manager to flash the ROM...so i do not know if there is something going on there with ROM manager (which it should not).
Before flashing you should have made sure that, you have Eng S-Off. Read this if necessary:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
try pasting PD98IMG.zip on your SD card again, boot the phone into bootloader, and let it install that zip file again.
if that doesn't work, turn your phone off and take out the battery, then put it back again, and try again the above.
it worked for me in a similar situation, I hope it will help you also.
Thanks everyone for your help!
I was able to get past the problem by downgrading to cwm 2.5.1.3
After 5 hrs at it I was afraid that I would end up with a brick phone!!
xxo!!!
I had the same problem yesterday...moving down to a clockworkmod 2.5.x fixed the issue for me as well. Glad you got it sorted out.
Yesterday, my phone notified me of an available update (probably android 2.3). I downloaded the update, used a file explorer to move the update ZIP from download folder to the SDCard root and renamed it to update.zip. I rebooted into recovery (ClockWork) and selected 'apply update.zip from SDCard'.
It was going fine and looked like a successful update, however ... the phone kept rebooting and never started.
What happened exactly is:
- HBoot became 0.93
- The phone never starts, hangs at HTC logo (no quietly brilliant) for a few seconds then reboots.
- I think I lost the clockwork recovery (I get a picture of the phone with a red rectangle and an exclamation mark instead of the recovery screen).
My phone was rooted using unrevoked 3
Can anyone please tell me what happened to my phone? is there any fix for it or is it gone forever?
Moved to Q&A where you will hopefully get more help than in General.
Never apply OTA updates on rooted phones!
Use a Ruu to go back to stock then root again.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I tried using a RUU, but it cannot detect the phone. (I cannot get passed the HTC logo)
Can I apply the RUU whe the phone is in HBOOT?
1st try in fastboot.. and if not detecting than.. in fastboot got to hboot and than try
THANK GOD!!!!
Finally, I got it.
I applied a RUU with the same rom number as the update and I finally got to the Android interface.
Ohh well done..
Here is a short story of what I did tonight to brick my Desire, at least I think it's beond fixing. I am open to suggestions however if you have any ideas.
1. HTC Desire 2.2 untouched.
2. I first rooted it with UnRevoked.
3. Then I wanted to try out some rom with Sense 2.1 so I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940. Noticed that I needed cm7 hboot from alpharev.nl. So I got the liveCD flashed it. Everything went smooth.
4. Flashed the actual Rom, wiped data/cache etc.. rebooted.
5. Phone got stuck with the joker and never moved beond that for extended period of times. I tried flashing it several times. Same results.
6. Read in a thread that that could happen and they suggested Clockwork 3.
7. Tried to flash in clockwork with adb. Got the following error:
~ # flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-heroc-20110121.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-heroc-20110121.img
flashing recovery from /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-heroc-20110121.img
mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00040000
8. At this stage I gave up on clockwork and wanted to try alpharev again. I restarted the phone and tried to launch recovery. The joker again, and stuck again. I'm not sure but i think clockwork managed somehow to install perhaps partly and messed up alpharev.
9. Left with no recovery anymore and I couldn't start the phone normally so I couldn't attempt a new installation of alpharev i downloaded RUU:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
It went as far as 90% and then dropped with an error that some file was wrong and I had to get the "right" RUU to fix this error.
10. Tried RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.
Same couldn't even detect the phone.
At this stage I also had the Black HTC logo with white triangles in every corner.
Last thing I've tried now was the official gingerbread update from HTC. It too ended up with an error and said: Please get the correct RUU.
So i guess i messed up and ended up with a brick.
Any clue what I did wrong? So i wont do the same dumb mistake again?
After the failed 2.3 RUU update i got a summary on the screen.
Radio_V2 = OK
Splash1 = OK
Recovery = OK
Splash2 = OK
Radio_cust = OK
Bootloader = bypassed
USERDATA = OK

Could this be because of the Alpharev's "Downgrade protection (cannot be overwritten by a RUU, unless you flash a downgrader HBOOT first.)" ?
Believe it or not but I managed to fix it. I'll explain how, incase any of you get stuck in the same way i did.
I took the official GB RUU, Started the flash program while it was runing i extracted the included rom.zip, erased system and hboot from it. Rezipped it and copied it back to the temp folder. I then continued with the flash program. It did all but touch my system and hboot.
Afterwards I then downgraded the alphadev so it wouldn't be protected anymore. Then Since i still had a corrupt recovery I had to run the RUU once more and flash it properly this time so I'd end up with stock in all ways.
Now I'm in the process of downgrading to 2.2 and then it's back on the aim for custom rom once more.
