Just asked the same question a little while ago.
Try this:
Backup CM7
Wipe everything
Flash a sense ROM
Download MSL Reader from the market and get you MSL
Dial ##gpsclrx#
Enter MSL
Phone will reboot
Open maps and and get a lock
Back to recovery and wipe everything again
Restore CM7
You are using an experimental BETA rom, it says so when you download it. that being said, you are risking having things not work properly, like gps. If you want true working gps, and if you need it to work every single time, switch to a good sense rom. Otherwise you will have to live with it not working properly.
That being said, if you read the CM7 faq, try the ##gpsclrx# sense trick. It worked for me, and now my gps works about 80% of the time in CM7.
Also, there is no need to make a new thread to ask questions about CM7. There already is a HUGE thread for it. If you post in there, it will get answered in a matter of minutes.
Damm bro ur a android god!! It worked so far so good.. thanks a million!

I'm on a Samsung Vibrant and just started having this problem, too (found your post by google searching for a solution).
If I find a solution, I'll post. Maybe what fixes one of us can fix the other.
Have you tried deleting the.cache and data? Sometimes that fixes issues.

This issue comes up in some roms. Viper rom 4.03 had this issue but they fixed it in the new release they made today. You might try sending them a pm and see how they fixed it. But first try the developer for your current rom.

I know removing the google maps update works 95% of the time... Ill be checking on what Viper team did to fix this.

still didnt work..what other options do i have?
about to contact viper guys also..
I fixed mine by uninstalling Google Maps and installing Maps 4.5. Looks like, at least for myself and some other Vibrant users, the latest Maps update caused this issue.
Bionix-v1.2
Dragon kernel v4 Test4
Androdena theme
Running CM7 final, but this has happened on other ROMs I've played with over the last week or so. When going to download an app (free or purchased), I have to download it two or three times before it will actually install.
I've cleared Market cache, reinstalled ROMs from scratch, and just something I've noticed with the newest Market update. Just curious if it's me or if anyone else has noticed this.

Running cm7 as well and am having no issues with downloading apps from the market.
Thanks for the response, I am going to blow away the Market and start over. We'll see what happens.

Just to give a shout to EPEK.WARE and their awesome GPS Doctor app on the market. I have not been able to get a GPS fix on any of the new ICS roms and found this program tonight. Some of the reviews stated that it did or did not work for them but for $1.99 thought i'd give it a go.
To my surprise I went from 1 or 2 sat's in view but not in use to 8+ and all being used! Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone tired of not getting a GPS lock.

A bit late in the reply, but yeah I flashed the FC22 modem (on Blu Kuban Rom btw), updated my PRL and I'm still getting the dreaded "Waiting for location" message when trying to use the Google Maps Navigation app. I'll try the other modems & see if that works.
If anyone cares to try it, this has been around for a while I just made it flashable.
It should work with ICS and GB.
Here is the original thread if anyone wants to reference it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381666
Let us know if it works for you. Thanks - TD
Edit: This does not replace anything BTW. It adds a file to one of the system folders. If you want to know exactly what & where, read through the thread I posted above.
That did it. I don't use GPS much (if ever), but it always bugged me that I couldn't get it to work. Thanks.

Very cool guys. Glad it works for you! That's why were here after all.
Bump!
See post #9 for the fix. I know this worked wonders for GB and ICS.
Hope it also works for you folks having issues with JB.
365 downloads and only 3 thanks. Bummer.
Hey TD can I just push this into my /system/lib/hw and set permissions?
On Kobridge's DeOdexed FL16
I have a gps.exynos4.so there already don't know if they conflict or not.
And since my last JB upgrade (from FL04 to FL16) my GPS has gone to sh^t. And I've tried just about everything already. Could be hardware but hoping just the same.

For JB flash the one I attached.
Hey LB. This just adds a new file and doesn't replace anything. Jellybean is real weird about setting permissions sometimes on flashed files so this zip sets the permissions for you (only difference is permissions are set with this one).
Oh, and let us know how it goes.
Edit: BTW, I'm not having issues but I flashed it anyway and had GPS lock before I even stepped outside the front door.
I'll do it now.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Here's hoping...
Well still didn't get any GPS app to lock. Google maps works but that always had, though poorly and loses connections if navigating.
On the plus side (at least for now anyways) any GPS app I open (FasterGPS, GPS Status & Toolbox etc.) will actually close and stop searching.
Previously if I installed these and tried to get a location - even just on google maps they would launch in the backround (whether I opened maps or Facebook) and I'd get the 'trying to aquire gps location' thingy running even after closing the app(s).
And the only way to stop that is either go to App Info and force close the System UI or reboot. Turning off GPS and/or all location services does nothing once the search had started.
I guess it's getting down to hardware. Kind of really p.o.'d Got rid of my last phone becuase the GPS stopped working. I guess I'm one of the few who use the snot out of it. I moved to a new area a few years ago and don't know where jack is. And nothing is logically laid out here either.
Thanks again. I'll have to start considering other options. :/
help please
running JB 4.1.2 GB08 google nav is unable to lock on to gps unless I reboot my phone then it will work normal until I use nav again at which point says searching for GPS , any idea on how to fix this
Try updating to GB27 modem, updating PRL and profile. I had issues with GB08 too. Also, try Comadose tweaks Goddly put together. It's in the dev forum. It has a jb gps lock tweak. Good luck!

Before anybody flames me, yes, I have searched every forum related to this issue. I am not a noob, just a lurker, so I don't have enough posts to post this in the development section. Here is my issue. I'm running Task650 and Ktoonsez 4.1.2 (build 11.18.2012) and I am trying to install a working version of google wallet. Before I go on, awesome ROM! I flash others and always come crawling back. Anyway, I've tried every variation on getting this to work out there, with no luck. This where I am at now. I can edit my build prop and get the market version of Wallet to work, but obviously it won't once I change my build prop back. If I try to flash the AT&T Modaco zip, I loose NFC in my setting menu. If I try to install the Modaco apk, it acts like its installing it, and at the end I get an "App didn't install" message at the end". My question is, how can I get this to work? If I can't, what exactly is the effect of leaving my build prop set on Nexus? Is it possible to flash the zip file, then extract something from an ota that I can flash to give me back NFC, but leave the rest of the changes the Mocado zip makes alone? If anyone can help me, I pretty much always donate to developers whose hard work I benefit from. Please help if you can. I am stubborn as gravity and will either get this to work or brick my phone trying.
Oh yeah, Its an AT&T phone.
I'm on the same ROM and have not encountered issues. Flash the modaco zip instead of installing, edit your build.prop, then reboot and add your card in the wallet app. After the card is added you can revert the build.prop.

I must have had a corrupt version of the file. I tried again and instead of loosing nfc, or wallet not showing up, the installation aborted. I redownloaded and reflashed with no issues. Thanks!
Glad to hear it! Remember, if you ever switch ROMs always reset the Google wallet app before flashing the new ROM.

One more question. Have yuo had any issue with nfc toggling off randomly since flashing this? It seemed to be working fine but what I have noticed is that if I haven't used nfc for maybe twenty minutes, it toggles off. Its still checked, but I have to uncheck it and recheck it to get it to work. I usually set it to stay on even when my screen is off, and haven't had any issues with it before, even when the phone is asleep. I could write a tasker workaround, I suppose, but I would rather just fix it.
I did notice that occasionally the NFC settings become unavailable. A reboot always fixes it for me.

Hey all, I haven't seen this before and can't really find any info searching. I flashed CM10 and right away the phone said it had to be activated. I figured what the hell and tried to follow the prompts to activate it, it failed. I restored my nandroid backup to the stock TW rooted rom and again it said it needed to be activated, it activated just fine then.
What was that all about? Anyone know why that may have happened? I'm gonna try flashing CM10 again (or some other ROM) , but was wondering what I did wrong or what might have went wrong. It was a clean install of CM10...
Any thoughts?

Yes, I flashed gapps at the same time I flashed CM10. It prompted me to activate the phone before the Google welcome/sign in procedure.

Its possible that when you originally did the activation, it didn't ping the server in time from when you 'completed' activation. I've never heard of that issue, and if you were on 3G when doing it, it could have taken a couple minutes. So that's my go at the situation.
Ok so the fix for this issue was to flash a stock rom and follow the activation through with that, and then flash back to CM (reboot first)
If it still doesn't activate, or just to be safe, you can force activation through the dialer by using "##7...." I forget the rest >.<

Thanks for the replies. I did have very bad 3G signal at the time, maybe that could be it?.
The fix was to restore my backup and when it booted up, I was prompted to activate and it worked that time. This morning I did a clean install of CM10 again from the same .zip and it worked without issue.
This happened to me when I went to CM10 from CM10.1. Others have reported loss of service (need to reactive) in the CM10.1 thread. I restored to Touchwiz and all was good.
Yeah this happens sometime, when it does you just need to follow the activation through while using a stock rom
