SDCard Not Reading After Rooting - Desire General

Hi Community,
Got a Desire where I've rooted it with Unrevoked3 yesterday. Unrevoked worked fine, without any issues as usual.
Then had 8GB sdcard formatted and partitioned to EXT3 and FAT32. Loaded a custom ROM on the FAT partition and booted to Recovery. Wiped all and install ROM and rebooted, ended up with the same ROM. Did this a couple of times and then memory card could not be mounted to phone.
Memory card still reads fine on PC when loaded to a memory card reader. Tried the same card in Desire HD, same thing, cannot mount.
Anyone seen this issue before?
Got a 2GB card in the Desire now and it reads fine, even on the DHD.
Your help is appreciated.

Try to re-format the Sdcard using Gparted or MiniTool Partition.
Note : u should create a Fat32 partiton first (type primary) and then an Ext2.3.4 (also primary)

Thanks for the reply aca.
I've reformatted a couple of times now (redoing the partitions and then making the whole card a Primary FAT32), was still not showing.
The card was reading before it started to play up. There are a few messages displaying in Recovery when doing a wipe though.
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists)
E: Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists)
EDIT: Did format it again, making sure sdcard was formatted for primary FAT32 and EXT3. Still no good.

Hi, get an Sd adaptor and a digital camera, format it trough the camera and it will probably be fine, or alternatively do a low level format with one of the tools available (just google low level format tool).

[Q] cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 [SOLVED]

I had been trying to install the new oxygen 2.0.1 with and the data2whatever scripts and also tried to reformat my sd card to increase from 512 to 1024mb.
from what ive read i may have somewhoe reformatted my internal sd ext or did something to it.
I followed one fix found from hereHere
but that didnt help it made another problem which is: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1) I/O error
error mounting /sdcard/.android-secure!
does anyone else know a link for a fix or how to fix the sd-ext on the internal storage?
Please please help
Thanks
CWM messed up mine, so that's why I never use Recoveries to do this job.
I fixed it using GParted. Deleted both partitions, created new ones and aligned both.
No problem ever since.

Hey thanks for the reply, can you explain a little more.
you deleted the mmcblk0p2 directory and created new ones?
Did you do that in adb with parted?
if not how did you go about with it?
Thank you
I booted GParted from my usb stick, and the phone was in recovery mode, where I mounted the SD Card (Advanced - Mount USB Storage).
Gparted recognized it as dev/sdb0 (I think) and showed to partitions.
Removed them both (showed 15 GB Unallocated space*) and created the 1GB Ext4 and then the Rest FAT32.
*=16GB is 15 GB usable space (just in case ).

Yeah thanks. I figured out how to do the sd card but i think my problem is the actual sd-ext folder in the system partition on the phone.
E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblck0p2 (file exists) error mounting /sd-ext/!
ANy one else have any other suggestions??
im getting desperate
SOLVED
I finally solved this. the problem was that somehow i dont know but
when i made the ext 3 partition it was extened, so obviously recovery couldnt mount it so that was the problem.
I fixed it by following this guys thread Here using parted and the shell to format and partition my sd card
So relieved i fixed this.
Same problem was in my desire.however, solved by install RUU ROM to remove the root then I root again the problem solved.

Formatted and partitioned SD card (fat32 and ext2) not mounting with Redux rom.

I've created a ~500mb ext2 partition on my sdcard on redux custom rom 1.0.2 on htc desire. However, Link2sd doesn't seem to like this partition (complains that it can't mount and can't write a script to automount at boot), but then I read that redux comes with something installed already. However, it doesn't seem to be using the partition properly.
Mount shows up thus:
#mount
...
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext2 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,data=ordered)
...
Any suggestions about what I need to do to get this partition used as part of the system storage?
Thanks in advance.
Try ext3 / ext4.
AFAIK ext2 is no longer supported in the scripts.
According to EASEUS partition Manager this partition is already ext3, but according to my mount command above it's ext2 - now I'm really confused. . Any other suggestions?
Hi there,
I do have similar problems.
After flashing latest Redux2 Rom, my Desire refuses to mount my SD-Card. I'm not able to see it in the Settings, nor am i able to flash or Restore anything from it in Recovery mode.
After trying going to "Flash zip from sdcard" i get the Error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No sich file or direktory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:
I already tried the SD-Card in another phone and it's working proberly. I Already formated it on the other phone and tried formating it in Recovery.
As a result i'm also unable to reRoot it with unRevoked as the Phone won't go into USB mode...
Any suggestions how i might fix this problem?

Help me fix my SD Card

Hi there,
A couple days ago, I had a usb brick. I quickly fixed it, everything got back to normal except for my sd card : I think it's corrupted. Why do I say this ? Because I've got another sd card, and it's working perfectly. I can't get to format it via Gparted. It says the procedure failed, there was an issue and i couldn't format it. In addition, even though it's a 4GB card, it's recognized as a 3gb card.
When I try to use it in recovery mode, it says :
Code:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
But when I use the other card, nothing weird happens.
I'd like you guys to help me repair my SD card.

Googled and found this: http://www.ehow.com/how_4850280_repair-corrupt-sd-card.html
1. link your desire with pc
2. enter "FASTBOOT Mode", it will display "HBOOT USB PLUG"
3. open dos windows and type adb shell
4. type fastboot oem rebootRUU
5. type fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
and retry
I already tried this, but it didn't work out ! I'm out of ideas...
So it says it's a 3GB card? You had an 1GB Ext partiton before?
If yes, that's where your 1GB's gone.
Recommended is to repartition your card again from scratch - Using Either GParted, EASEUS or MiniTool partiton.
Backup everything from it, then delete all partitions - and re-create them.

Actually, it's 3.7 GB and not 4GB (I guess it's normal though). And yes, the missing space was from the ext partition. Thanks god, the first thing I did was a backup of my SD card. Yet, I tried to format the card with Gparted (I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10) but as I said above the procedure fails.
Then, I formatted in Windows, and I managed to create a 3Gb fat32 partition recognized in Gparted.
But how am I supposed to get my missing space back if this space isn't recognized in Gparted ?
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) - and i'm able to mount my EXT partiton of the SD Card.
As I said, don't just format the card, but delete all partitions and re-create them, then format them.
Also, if your card is messed up badly, maybe you have to use the termina with commands to recover the ext partition.
Always format SD cards with the "SD Formatter 3.0" from the SD Association: http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
This little programs formats the whole card (full capacity, erasing all other partitions) in FAT32 meeting all SD specifications.
Furthermore it alligns the LBA parameters (virtual heads, cylinders etc) and the fat32 parameters with the internal structures of the flash memory (eraseblocks), so that fat32 clusters never overlap eraseblocks. This speeds up write performance (in my case about 50%! ).
There is no better tool to format SD cards.
After that you can resize (But don't move it, just trim the end. The free space in front of the FAT32 partition is part of the alignment) the FAT 32 partition with gparted and generate an ext partition in the free space.
Finally one should run the ext alignment script (it's a zip for recovery mode) from baadnwz homepage (http://www.baadnwz.eu/2011/05/align-your-sdcard-fat-and-ext-partiton_16.html) to align also the ext4 partition to the flash cells.
boot up into android (with any ROM) and go to settings > storage > format SD card
this should restore whole SD as FAT32
funny enough Android could do it, while Gparted could not (gparted didnt see my whole sd, it didnt see the ext partition)

---> As I said too , Gparted fails to create partitions. It displays a "warning" icon by the sd icon. Unless I'm a fool, I can't get any further there.

---> Yeah, Gparted is a bit lazy here.... Gonna try it if hypophysis's method doesn't work out. I gotta admit this kinda problem is pretty disturbing and pisses me off so much.... Waiting forward to get it over with.
Anyway, thanks a lot for helping me, you're good people here !
Well, I tried hypophysis's method. It formatted successfuly. But as you said, I had to run Gparted again in order to create an Ext partition next to the fat 32 one. But I couldn't --> It says it couldn't find the "first sector" I guess, and it couldn't determine the device specifications, it wasn't able to perform everything he wanted. Actually it recognized the whole sd card, but wasn't able to do anything with it. I couldn't unmount it or mount it....
I'm stuck at square 1 Gonna try to perform dzumagos's method later.

[Q] Troubles with sd-ext / sd card mounting

Hey @ all,
ive got a HTC Desire with these specs:
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
HBOOT 6.93.1002
Radio 5.11.05.27
rooted, s-off
I tried ICS Beta with an ext4 partition for about 2-3 months, the performance was too slow, so i decided to get a faster GB-Rom. I did a full wipe and formatted my sd-card with Panasonic SD Formatter (Full Erase).
Then i tried to create a new ext4 partition with Mini Partition Tool Wizard.... (1. Move/Resize, 2. 2048MB of unallocated space - so i got a fat32 partition with 6GB and the 2nd unallocated partition will be turned into a EXT4 Primary Drive with 4kb Clusters) 3. Mini Partition Tool tells me that everything is done and without failure.
Then i boot in my Recovery and go to (mounts and storage/mount usb storage) win7 tells me that a new drive was found with 6GB (8GB SD Card - 2GB ext4). I copy my choise of ROM on it (in my example RSK bravo 7.4.3) - everything works.
Then i unmount USB storage and go to install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sdcard) and then a failure appears: Can´t mount /sdcard/
If i format the SDcard once again (without ext4) it works, i can install .zip´s and i can mount the sd-card.
Im really mad, cause i tried this 100times without success. Also tried a other card, same thing.
Could this be an sd-brick? (But everything works fine without ext4). Is it a problem of partitioning? Or can i solve this problem with another software or what would you try?
Sorry for my bad english
Please help me
Oh and maybe it helps to discover the issues... when i power on my desire it starts the revolutionary boot loader, without pressing the VOL- button...
Anyone got a idea what i could try? Im so
hello friend , this problem was also occur with me
Solution: run gparted and remove all partitons and create new fat32 partition then apply, your problem solved

Thx for your awnser but it also works without gparted (but just with a fat32 partition, without ext4). Have you created ext4 also with gparted and it worked?
I solved it
Tryed to format and partition with the sd card in my girlfriends unrooted desire z.
1st the desire z cant read the sd card and i thought it wouldn´t work again, but after formatting, partitioning i inserted the sdcard again in my desire - and then i go to install from sd-card, and see there: i could choose the rom
Maybe the unmounted usb from recovery was the reason, i dont know but im really happy that it worked

Format internal sd to ext4 format?

Hi Everyone,
I want to format my internal sd to ext4, at some extent I was successful in doing so, as I used mke2fs command to format internal sd, and it work fine while I was in TWRP recovery, partition format shown ext4 there as checked by cat /proc/mounts.
But the problem starts when booted to OS, there was a notification at fastlane saying "your internal memory is damaged and needs to be formatted again". so after many failed attempts I again formatted the partition with vfat, this there were no issues on booting to OS.
Can someone help me got it working, I am on stock Nokia X rom.
Thanks
