Okay I just opened up a zipped theme and modified some of the png files inside of it. How do I put those files back into the zip?? I think I extracted them out and then edited them. Now when I try to put them back its not as easy as just copy and pasting. Could someone please help me?
Open the original zip file in the 7zip file manager, navigate to the folder you want to copy the new/modified file into, then drag and drop the modified files from the windows explorer window into that folder in the file manager. If there is already a file with the same name, it will overwrite the original file with the new file.
You cannot modify a .9 this way. You would hand to re do the patches in draw9 then run them threw eclipse

I Downloaded A Theme From The Forum (EnamoRED) But Didn't Like Certain Parts Of It. I Am On A Mac. On My Evo Im Running The Latest Stock Rom W/ Full Root.
I Extracted The Signed Zip File Which Then Revealed Two Folders, "META-INF" & "system".
I The Navigated To "system" and that revealed two files also, "app" & "framework".
I Then Went Into "framework" which revealed two files "com.htc.resources.APK" & "framework-res.APK".
I Extracted Them And Within Those Two Folders Were Plenty In Each Of Them. I Went To "Res" In Each Of The Two Folders (com.htc.resources & framework-res) And Changed A Couple Of PNG's.
Now I Want To "Archive" The Two Folders In "System/Framework" Back To ".APK". Also I Don't Know If I Would Need To Resign Them.
After I Have Everything Ready I Can Zip It Up, But Im Not Sure If Ill Have To Resign The ".Zip"?
Thanks Guys.
WILL DONATE TO SOMEBODY WHO CAN REALLY HELP!!!!!
EDIT:
This Is What I Have. Original On Top, My Edited Files On Bottom. Just Need To Make My Folders ".APK'S" And The Sign The Fianl Zip.

Somebody Please Help!!!!! Im Going To Be Away From My Computer Soon And Would Liek To Batch This Up!
I just started getting into theming a bit too. I have a win7 PC so it might be a little different, but the tutorial i was following said to open the zip/apk's with an extractor, drag the drawable folders out, make your changes, drag the modified files back in ( "update" the archive if prompted ) & then sign the original zip file. I forget which thread it was, but they said signing it may not be necessary.
yes, what Veritas06 said. Don't rezip all the files that you extracted, just drag and drop the files you modified into their respective folders in the pre-existing archive. Signing should not be necessary if you do it this way.
With HTC apk's in the /system/app folder, usually you can just remove and reinstall the new apk to change, the ones in /system/framework should work the same way.
Thanks guys, so what im trying to do is re-instate an apk file back to an apk. i extracted it so that i can edit the pngs within. was i supposed to extract it? from what im reading, with 7zip you can change files within an archive without extracting it? is that what im supposed to do to keep my file as an apk? i also have a win 7 pc that i donated to my mom but i still have access to it so may try it.

Use 7zip (7z.exe to be exact)
Copy it to a folder make a subfolder inside,
Put ur apk contents in subfolder
Open notepad, copy and paste these 3 lines
Save as script.bat in folder with 7z.exe
cd subfoldername
..\7z.exe -tzip archivename.apk "*" -mx0
Exit
Change subfoldername to name of subfolder to the name of subfolder u created ofc lmao
And archive name to sign.. mx0 is best for loadin, mx9 is compression, use signapk to sign if its not a system file
If the "..\7z" don't wotk 4 u use full path in quotes, example
"%userprofile%\desktop\foldername"
Is the same as: (vista)
"C:\users\username\desktop\foldername"
And: (xp)
C:\documents and settings\username\desktop\foldername"
Or use apk manager lol I prefermymethod personally, n fyi, googles ur friend
Should get to know it
thank you doug.
i did google it but found bunch of different programs and thought that there might be a simpler way of doing it rather than getting a program just to compress

Ye no worries just hope it helped sorry if the post seemed rushed had like 5min left 2 my break when I origionally replyed lmao n this methods rather simple cuz when used correct its more or less drag n drop n run, zip is generated in folder with 7z.exe n 7z performs flawlessly
APKs are basically a zip file with an MD5 signature embedded in them. There are apk generators on market if you copy directory to sdcard is prolly easiest to start with specially with the processing power of this phone.
In Windows compressed folders work fine if you just enable viewing file extensions and change between zip and apk
or hold left shift key as you right click apk file in windows.
Now click open with...
and choose browse for application
Choose your favorite zip app or windows compressed folders
Next to last check always use box so checkmark is visible
Finally click OK
Now no need to modify extensions

I'm trying to compile a flashable zip file with the file manager inside this app. It does not do it correctly it creates a zip folder with the flashable folder inside which does not work I need a direct folder that opens to become flashable... Am I doing something wrong can anyone knows try to create a flashable zip file with this utility. I have root explorer and that works great but I would really like to use this app instead

I zipped JusTunBean and it did this
JusTunBean/JusTunBean/flashable stuff root explorer does JusTunBean/flashable stuff make sense? It's making a folder inside a folder

Gimme a little time to unzip then rezip something and see what it does for me! I'm at work so it won't be right now but soon I just unzipped and zipped a kernel file perfect. Are you trying to rezip a file you unzipped. If so go to the screen that has the Meta info and multiselect all of those then zip. If you want I'll show you screenshots, just let me know

Hello Guys i just figured out that the root explorer app has a lot of inbuilt cool features it is lot more than a file explorer it can handle archives like .zip same as winrar so i thought to use it as i use it on my pc
In this guide i will teell you how to edit an app icon using root explorer only
1) Rename the .apk to .zip like example xyz.apk to xyz.zip
2)Hold the xyz.zip and select extract
3Wait for it to extract and go to extracted file
4)It will extract all its content iin a folder open it you will see res folder open it
5)There will be many folder sartibg with drawable like drawable-idpi,drawable-hdpi...etc
6)Search for the icon image now replace the image with any image of your choice but remember to maintain same resolution and a png file format as icons are png in that android
7)Once done go back and hold the foldet and select to zip it then go to that zip folder
8)Rename the zip to apk example xyz.zip to xyz.apk and you are done
Note : The new apk made might not be installed as direct apk you might need to push it to system to make it work
i think this in general section
I found a nice theme and installed it without any problems. But I would like to expand it with more icons so all my apps fit in.
I copied the theme to my PC unzipped it and placed the new icons in the icon folder. I named the icons with the right names (eg. com.twitter.android.png), zipped it all again and copied the modified theme to the hwthemes folder. But now the theme doesn't show up any more and the icons hasn't changed.
What am I doing wrong? How can I get the expanded theme to work?

Well that is exactly what I did and it didn't work.
It seems like the file names are not the problem. I did the following experiment:
Copy a working .hwt file from the HWThemes folder to my PC
Renaming it to .zip
Unzipping it with winRar (v4.11)
Zipping that folder right away without making any modifications to the contents of the folder
Renaming the new zip file to .hwt
Copying the new file into the HWThemes folder, using the exact same file name as before
The new .hwt file didn't work either. Unlike the old file it does not show up in the Themes app.
The new file was slightly larger than the old (11.659 KB vs. 11.631 KB) even though I zipped it using the highest level of compression.
This leads me to be pretty certain that it is not the file names that are the problem but rather the way the folders are compressed into .hwt files.
I hope someone will be able to help me since I would really like to get into EMUI theming.

Try using 7zip to open hwt files and make changes inside without unpacking them.
