For those of you who haven't seen...
ZodTTD just released psx4droid 3.0.0 free on his website: http://www.zodttd.com/downloads/psx4droid.apk
Been playing around with it for a little... Not sure if its an improvement over his v2. It features ads, and for some reason, its not saving my key mappings and seems very laggy all around, even just changing settings around. FPSe still seems the better option
Awesome! Haven't seen it yet, thanks for the heads up!
FPSe is a great emulator... I'd bet it kicks psx4droid's butt any day...

Yeah, I tend to agree. I haven't played around with both of them extensively (and haven't tried PSX4Droid 3.0), but FPse seems to be compatible with a lot more ROMs than PSX4droid.

What are you guys talking about? Fpse had a buggy menu (hardly ever saves changes) and the music and sound emulation is downright horrible. Play the beginning intro to ff7 for I've good example. This 3.0 doesn't give me shying over psx4droid v2 except a force closing menu when changing virtual keypad settings.

in the fpse menu have you tried pressing "Default Config Save" in the menu to save changes...? If so, idk then, I've never encountered your problem
from my experience, they're both pretty ****ty in sound but fpse is a lot more smooth in gameplay (despite its ugly ass menu) which is more important than music (at least to me)
Why can't I get any roms working? Do you have to download the roms from the computer only? I've tried downloading three roms from my phone and each time it says the rom is not supported.

sometimes when you download psx roms, they come in a compressed format. You gotta uncompress them, or un-ECM them
here's an article and tutorial on it: http://androinica.com/2010/08/tutor...configure-the-playstation-emulator-psx4droid/
or maybe you might be missing BIOS, idk lol
In other news, he just updated it again to 3.0.1 and its supposed to fix all the bugs in the menu, but I havent tried it out
Eh, sounds so confusing to me haha.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
He means that some roms are packed into a winrar/zip file to make the size of the rom smaller. Using a program called Winrar you can unzip the rom and place it on your phone.
With the bios he means that EVERY emulator needs to have a bios to work, just google for a psx4droid 3.0 bios.
this might be worth another go,
What’s new in psx4droid 3.0.0? Well it’s based on a different emulator, PCSX-ReARMed. It has a better dynarec (cpu emulation technique) and lands up being much faster in general. It’s using a software GPU for graphics rendering, though I have an OpenGL ES 1.1 GPU made. OpenGL ES 1.1 is hit or miss for this type of rendering on Android devices. Many of these high end devices have slow Adreno 100 GPUs. So soft GPU is the way to go for now, especially with some improvements to come.

I happen to use andless to play flac files on my phone, and I've noticed that there is an unbearable lag and tons of choppy audio when on ultimate Droid. Has anyone been able to fix this? Even if overclocked it will lag a ton when I lock it. I don't have setcpu and the phone runs fine aside from the audio. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? It was great on the desire z Rom.....

No. 1st rom that i never replaced it. Until now, i had no problems except for wireless tether failing occasionally, but a reboot would fix it. What kernel do you reccomend? Theres so many and im just not sure now lol...
invisiblek
I can highly recommend invisiblek's #16 kernel found here:

Performance is great, and battery life has been truly epic.
Best AOSP kernel I've ever loaded, without question.

I just installed it, seems a bit smoother and havent found any issues... except choppy sound.. I simply sont know what it is. I have a class 10 card, am overclocked, but every time i lock my phone it gets choppy as hell. Could the built in overcllocking be doing this?

It could - perhaps try stock speeds (no overclocking) and see what that does.
Idk if it was a typo, but what are the file formats in your OP?
Also, have you tried updating to UD 2.4?
Are you using the native UD media player, the themed one, or the Android one?
Finally, do any other media player 'helpers' or media players at all make any difference - example - DSP?

Well, ive tried screwing with the overclocking settings. Stock speeds didnt help though. Im really not sure why. And yea. im running 2.4.0 and uh.... its gotten worse lol. Not sure why. Im listening to FLAC files using andless. as far as i can tell, the music app cannot find them. but they are on the internal memory so idk. Ive switched kernels and its better, basically it just lags like a mofo when i lock it.
It def. seems like a clock speed thing, but leaving it on defaults hasnt helped. Im really not sure. Are there any other good flac players for me to try? maybe the app sucks?
Stumped on this one .... idk anything about flac files.

Does your kernel change performance when you lock it, screen off? Can you use SetCPU to change the screen off performance?
Have you tried UD2.4 yet? Also, 2.5 is suppose to release sometime Sunday or Monday. Maybe the issue has been fixed in one of the last few updates.
Under UD settings and the overclock/underclock feature, what is the minimum clock speed set at? Maybe raising that value would help?

On Cronos Gingerbread I have ~60FPS in Neocore. But many grafics are invisible... And Angry Birds still lagging.
The lag on angry birds on hero is down to the advertising plain and simple. I've installed adfree from market and it runs alot faster, in fact on cronos it runs smother than I've ever seen tbh.
However to be fair I haven't yet compared to cm7 as yet, once have given both a fair run of a couple of days, I'll report back.

As i have said on another thread...
Yes the add's make a bit of diff, but they are still fairly unplayable without the add's.
its the fact the game isnt actually made well for our none GPU'd phones.
They are working on a version specifically aimed at out phones, so will have to just be patient.

it's actually mostly due to the huge amount of large graphics being thrown around on the screen in multiple layers. advertising blocking gives a very small improvement on my phone, but the 1.4.2 version of the game with it's working graphics is just unplayable. get version 1.3.5 (search for apk around the web) if you watn to play it on the hero - but the reason THAT version runs half decently is because it's missing a ton of background graphics so the game engine has a much easier time.
and hello again to the optimist who believes they're still working on the hero version of the game . Do you know how long they've been saying that? I think they intended to do it until they actually got into it and realized how tough the job would be for them and have silently given up. I really hope I'm wrong though... I love the game

yup, and long since then elelinux has been codeveloping (maybe a generous term but certainly he's helping immensely) cronos gingerbread with feeyo over at the cronos site. and that one has gps working (but with very weak signal), usb working, wifi working, bluetooth working (including bluetooth audio).
I didn't make this, I just found it and put it in a flashable zip.
It was in the meXdroid Pre-Ghost Chili ROM, but for some reason not in the latest AIO version. I think it was also in the CM7 nightlies, but I'm not entirely sure.
Anyway, it just makes the webkit browsers(pretty much all browsers except Opera and Firefox) a little smoother, especially when pinch-zooming in.
I tested this working on CM7 nightly 204 and meXdroid Ghost Chili AIO.
It didn't work on MIUI and Sense ROMS. MIUI hanged at boot and Sense crashed the browser. You can try it if you want though.
Download:
http://www.multiupload.com/P4UCPVX4IY
The .zip flashes 2 files:
system/lib/libwebcore.so
system/lib/libwebkitaccel.so
Do you have some benchmarks or something?
Because I don't know if I will flash it if it is a "little smoother"
Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DZnie3u0YI
Dang! That's smoother than Opera! Wish it was working for MIUI though :/
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It's not smoother than Opera, but it's definitely an improvement.
Zooming out is still a little laggy like normal, and scrolling on large pages(like xda forums expanded view) is still laggy.
I wonder why they removed this from the CM7 nightlys though.
When I first judged the performance, I was basing my observations on the YT video. Now, I'm running CM7 and using the stock browser.
- the stock browser seemed smoother than Dolphin HD, but yes, not as smooth as Opera. Rendering wasn't perfect on Opera 100% of the time though (the google mobile page comes to mind).
- it was definitely smoother than normal, mostly after the page finished loading. When the page was still loading, scrolling was still fairly choppy. But still definitely recommended for those not on Opera.

Definitely some difference on CM7. Stability is noticeably lower though.
Still not at Opera's level =/

I use stock browser on meXdroidmod ghost chili AIO. It is buttery smooth. Way better than the video posted above. I really can't imagine it being better cause its that smooth.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I actually used meXdroidmod AIO in the video. After I flashed gapps(non modded) it broke the theme.
Also, because all browsers on Android use the same webkit engine, I doubt one is smoother than the other. Because of this, this should work on all those browsers(incl. Dolphin HD).
With the exception of Opera Mobile and Firefox though. Those 2 use their own rendering engine.

I haven't noticed any stability issues myself though, but I also rather have a occasional crash than the normal choppy browsing. I always had to use Opera, since the stock browsers were so horribly slow.
Let's hope IceCreamSandwich will be better. The ICS browser will supposedly have full hardware acceleration in the browser.
Also, I just tested this on my sisters' Nexus S, and it worked. Perhaps it works on more devices?

Yeah, it should work for any phone with 2.3.4 and above. The latest CM Nightlies build 220 has a performance option to smooth scrolling in general. Combine with this and its pretty darn smooth. Opera is a great alternative but its rendering can be screwy sometimes. Plus, it always opens pages in overview which drives me nuts, lol! But ICS, we are ALL looking forward to. I was unaware that the browser would have full hardware acceleration. That's awesome! Our devices have a decent GPU and great CPU so we should be set!

No, it also works on a Nexus S and probably more devices. But I'm not sure if the .zip will work on your device.
If it doesn't, you can just extract the zip and use adb to push "libwebkitaccel.so" and "libwebcore.so" to system/lib/.
Yep it works, snappy. Thanks dude

I'm all about the coolest looking ROMs.lol. I'd like to stick with 2.2 because I still use the original PSX4Droid.. It's the only ****ing one I could find that works extremely well. Plus it's the only one with support for UP+LEFT, DOWN+RIGHT.. etc. At least from what I know. I haven't checked in several months, so if I'm wrong, PLEASE let me know. I can't understand why PSX4Droid worked SO well until he made a new version..and completely ****ed it up.. Makes no sense to me..
Oh ****, ANYWAY. I'm using Viper 5.0 at the moment, but lately I've been having major issues with it. It worked fantastic for quite a while, but now 90% of my apps force close, every other time someone calls and I answer it, it will lag for a few seconds, then I won't be able to hear anything they say until I completely restart my phone. After like the third time I open it, Maps will say there is no data connection, even though there is.. So I have to re-download it.. Makes me sad because I really like the ROM and would like to keep it.. But I can't stand these issues anymore. I just downloaded the NEW Viper Rom. But I thought I'd ask you guys if there is a better, more stable one.. I have used CM7 in the past, and I think I used CM9.. but once again, after a while the bugs start kicking in and drive me insane.. Not to mention when you're on a call and receive a text message your face vibrates..lol. That drove me nuts.
So... if anyone kept reading this.. Thank you first of all.lol. But what are your suggestions? I REALLY wanted to try ICS, but there is no visual voicemail That's a dealbreaker.. I barely check my voicemails as it is WITH it..lol. But if there are any newer roms, with amazing working PS1 emulators (I play a LOT of FF7), please let me know! Thanks guys!!
The Visual Voicemail is working on all ICS ROMs. They took the one from the Epic Touch ICS. If you are looking for the most customizeable options for appearance try AOKP B29.

Lulz this is my help all day long.. I love to play emulators on my phone. I use cm9 and run with the samurai kernel it has a fps uncap to 72hz and runs at 65fps =]. Overclocks to 1.5ghz stable and not warm. I play zelda on n64oid... with my playstation 3 control with sixaxis controller app off the market. I use fpse for playstation one and it runs amazingly smooth.. haven't tried any rpg games on it but crash and tekken run pretty slick at 1.5ghz. If your a gamer then the samurai kernel is a must.. but he makes em for all types of roms. Touchwiz el30 bml or mtd. Cm7,miui gb and v4 and cm9. Hope this helps.. oh and with fpse you'll need a ps bios if you don't already have one otherwise it won't work but I had mine setup and every game I downloaded played great. Hope this helps.

So I recently unlocked my bootloader and have been trying various roms; however, whenever I try an ICS rom, I always experience framerate lag on gameboid (with sound on). The framerate is fixable with the frame skip, but the sound will always experience that distortion. The better your CPU and RAM, the better the sound is processed, but overall it's difficult to get rid of the sound problems.
I use a Galaxy S 4g and I still get those sound issues.

The framerate is fixable with the frame skip, but the sound will always experience that distortion. The better your CPU and RAM, the better the sound is processed, but overall it's difficult to get rid of the sound problems.
I use a Galaxy S 4g and I still get those sound issues.

Well the sound works perfectly fine on CM7, but on CM9 it gets very glitchy. I'm assuming it's because how much of a ram hog ICS is.

That's funny, because FXP has only released 115 CM9 for the Play so far. Expect 116 later today, though, unless you compiled one yourself.

WRONG! Stock official ICS isn't actually a ram hog or battery hog, but other unofficial builds for some phone models are. For example, CM9 experiences battery drain and consumes half of the ram for Sony Xperia devices and others while it does not for some other phones, then there's the official Sony ICS beta for the Xperia devices built separately for each one, which runs smooth, and has its own problems, like broken wifi indicator.
tl;dr: If you are going to blame someone, it's the ones who built CM9 for your device, not Google, AOSP or your carrier.

But in general, ICS is more resource intensive than GB will ever be, so even stock ICS (IMO) probably wouldn't run as efficiently as say CM7. (I might be talking out my ass, but this is the conclusion I've come to from user experience)
Edit: Also, my gameboid games are starting fine on CM9
This is what I did to fix the problem.. Turn your data connection off and the emulator will run a lot smoother
