Ok.. i want to use my ROOTED EVO as a wireless usb adapter! to connect my SONY TV TO THE INTERNET, my home wifi, not my 3g.
ive searched but didnt find nothing. i read it can be done but idk.. cant find anything.. my sony tv is wifi ready but it needs a usb wireless adapter which i dont have.. but i want to make my evo a usb wireless adapter.. theres gotta be a APP or something to do it. no?
ANY IDEAS?? Thanks!!
Kind of in the same realm but i want my phone to act as a usb bluetooth device.
The only app that I am aware of worth using to tether is wifi tether.
But from what im understanding is you want to use it as a USB tether. If you install CM7 rom. Tethering is built into the rom and you have the option of making it a hotspot OR tethering via usb.

You don't have to. I'm just saying that's what I do and it's easy to use. What rom are you running?

Nandroid backups are your friend! Just make one before you flash anything and you can easily restore your phone to the way it was, should you be unhappy with what you've done....
.........at 8 am today someone poisons the coffee....do not drink the coffee. More instructions will follow.

most all of the sense 2.0 roms have the wired tether option. so there are a few alternatives to cm if you want to keep a stock feel.

To use the Wired Tether for Root you need to have a kernel that supports CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS, right? Anyways, I have found a lot of ways to patch kernels, but they are for the G1.
Are there any EVO kernels that support this? Or any better ways to use a wired tether? I am aware of PDA net and others like that, but I'm trying to use this on my xbox. I was using Wireless Tether, but I can't get more than 1mb down.
Any good suggestions for tethering to an xbox?
Thanks.
What's going to kill you is latency... other than that I don't have a clue if or how you can do this. Never tried since I get bad reception in my house.

I only use it for Netflix right now. So latency isn't a big deal. I would rather have higher download rates.

Yeah it looks like it supports Net Filter for wifi tether, right? Have you used this before or do you know it works? I'll try it out, but just curious.

Oh, wifi tether for sure. I'm looking for wired tether. Have you tried that?
Just use PDA net. It does the exact same thing and there is no special kernel needed.

Kings-Rom]Kinged SHOOTER E3D [sense3.0]Now with working 4G!The future is here! in this rom is the hotspot free to use or do i need to use wifi teather for root.... thanks for taking the time to answer my question
Try it out... It should. If not all you do is use the wireless tether app.

yea not really question worthy... Always try things out for yourself or at least things that wont destroy your phone....lol
I am running kernalpanic's rom for the Nirto HD and it is great! I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the wifi tether so is does not alert ATT that I am using it?
Thanks,
I've heard of a couple of ways to do it, but never really seen solid instructions. I'm using a USB tether setup that is supposed to be unseen by AT&T.
What one do you use? I have tried a couple but was not to impressed...
I'm using ClockWorkMod Tether. The link below will give you all you need for it. It's a USB tether only though.

edit: I forgot to say that it is a free install, but you are limited to a daily usage amount. I paid the $4.99 in-app donation to gain full access with unlimited usage. I felt it was worth it for my situation.
Ok, I will give it a try. Thanks!! I hope there is a CyanogenMod rom soon for this phone...!!!
I have just posted instructions on how to enable the built in tethering in the phone.

Thanks!!

I found it, thanks a lot! Ever found out if Att charges for using it this way? I am kinda hesitant to try it...
Thanks though!!
So, this will probably be the stoopidest question of the day...
JUST got a new Macbook, am playing around with it now. Can I use it to flash ROMs and that kind of thing, or do I have to use the wife's PC?
(I'm told I have to buy a copy of windows to activate bootcamp, and that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.)
Thanks in advance!
~Jason
Well your gonna need a pc or anything running ubuntu (linux) to root it and then after that you really don't need a computer. You can literally do everything from your phone. hope that helped a little

Already rooted an all good there, just wondering about flashing ROMs, radios, that kind of thing.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Hey man,
if your already rooted you just need to be able to transfer the zip files to your phone and I am pretty sure you can do that with your mac. since you flash them from recovery on your phone you dont need a computer other then to download and transfer the file! so yes you can do it!
Just d/l the ROMs on our phone over wifi. No transferring needed

So...(I'm showing my idiocy, I know...) Do I do that they ROM manager or is there another way to do this. Teach this Padawan, Masters!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Yea, you don't use your computer to flash roms, so it doesn't matter if you have a Mac or a PC. It only matters when you root the phone, after that it doesn't matter.

Don't use ROM Manager.
Hi
What is the fastest way to enable free wireless tethering on a stock sprint HTC evo 4g.
It is my father inlaws phone, I don't want to do anything major like install a custom rom if possible.
Thanks so much for the responses.
Just search "no root Wi-Fi tether" on the market. Try the first one that pops up called one click tether or something like that.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
You are going to have unlock it and then you can leave the stock rom on it but you need to look for a hack wifi hotspots zip file and then he can keep the stock rom and have hotspots for free

If for some reason rooting is not an option for you and finding a wireless wifi is not working because you're not rooted... Then resort to plan B and go USB tether with PDAnet
With the new wifi tether beta version, what settings do you use to make it work properly? I am getting an error?
