there have been pletny of GPS threads, obviously. but im wondering what you guys did to fix yout GPS on cm7? my gps worked in the past, but recently when i flashed RC4, the GPS stopped working. and i flashed the latest nightly and it is not working as well. i just baffles me because it worked in earlier builds, and you would figure it would work in more stable builds.
so.
what have you guys done to fix your GPS/what nightly are you on?
As an avid Foursquare user I use GPS every day, several times a day, these GPS issues are the main reason I'm still on the stock ROM.
i know what you mean. my GPS works on sense based roms, which is great. im not sure whyyyy its not working on CM7.

First things first: No indicator on notification bar when starting GPS traffic assist application?
Then you are living under a rock or having bad reception. Go outside. Using some kind of widget which uses GPS also and has a on/off switch in it? Try switching off and reboot. It simply should work with the latest nightlies. Try reflashing and fix permissions. Do not wipe your entire phone before flashing.
Doesn't work for me either with RC 2 or RC 4. I've tried some of the fixes out but no joy. I know how to use it and it works fine when I go back to stock. Issue is definitely with my CM 7 install. I'm hoping for a solution soon as this my only issue, but it's a big one for me.

I don't use the navigation much but if I understand the program gpsstatus, it is working for me. I have used CM7 RC2 and RC4 (which is what I am on).

That's right, yours is working fine. If the GPS is "broken", you won't have any activity on GPS Status. No green dots for the satellites on the round display, and no bars on the bar graph below that. Those will be blank, and you never get lat/long coordinates
It's still working for me on RC4, but locking takes about a minute, whereas it was almost instant on stock.
CM7 definitely does something to gps, very weird how everyone is getting different results.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
had problems with gps locking on stock radio with cm 6.1.1 after flashing .27 i get almost instant lock in the house, that did not happen with stock rom or radio.
but my wifes with stock radio and rom did that from the box
both g2
GPS doesn't work at all for me in CM7-RC4 (I mean nothing, no signals or indicators or anything). Works fine in CM6.
I believe I'm currently running the "stock" T-mo OTA radio 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M and haven't tried a different one. Think changing that might help? I don't understand why some people have it working with this radio but not others.
Edit:
OK, I got it working. I had first installed CM7-RC4 using clockwork recovery (in the boot menu) after wiping out the stock ROM. GPS didn't work so I installed CM6 using ROM manager. GPS worked. I then installed CM7-RC4 using ROM manager and voilà, GPS works in CM7-RC4 now. I have no idea what the difference is.
Try .27 worked for me on cm 611 , just flashed the new one, works great, satellites get higher value on GPS test

Sorry, didn't see your post after mine. I edited mine to show that I got it working simply by downgrading to CM6 then upgrading to CM7. Could be a ROM Manager thing or maybe something left over from how CM6 configured the hardware, or who knows.
I do wish CM7 was more stable though, seems kind of wonky.
I had the same problem with CM7. Download gps.vision.so from either nightly #4 or nightly #34. Open up adb:
adb remount
adb push gps.vision.so /system/lib/hw
adb reboot
GPS should work after that.
Radio .26, CM7 RC4, flashed also the "auto-patcher" that patches files to your ROM based on what radio you have.

For some reason my gps isn't working correctly, I can only occasionally get a solid gps lock when i'm moving around outside but the majority of the time it won't work and my cell signal the only form of location. Am I the only one that has this? I have never updated my radio so i'm wondering if that's the issue...
If it helps, I flashed from skyraider to cm6 rc3 and then upgraded to 6.0.1
Thanks,
Justin
edit - not sure if I tried GPS or not. I'll try it later tonight if a nightly comes out.
If your GPS isn't working with your new ROM, then try this method. It has worked for me for every ROM I've used with a problem connecting to GPS. I've seen the problem posted in several ROM threads, and instead of posting it in each one and having it get lost in the hundreds of pages of posts, I figured I'd start a new one which might be searched for a little more easily.
- Open 'Settings' and go to 'Applications'. Choose 'Manage Applications'.
- Choose 'Running Apps'
- Find the 'Maps' app and open it. Click 'Force Stop' and choose 'Clear Data'.
- Go back to your app drawer and open 'Maps'. It will have you check off the disclaimers. Close it after you have done this.
- Open your 'Navigation' app and check off the disclaimers there. It should connect after that.
Like I said, this has worked for every ROM I've tried with a problem connecting to GPS. I don't know why it works, but it does.
tags: gps not working, gps won't connect, gps issue, broken GPS
Didn't solve my GPS issue...which is that it doesn't toggle on what so ever.
Each new nightly I flash, I have to push an old gps.vision.so in order to get my gps to toggle on and off again.
Thanks anyway.
edit: No app on the market will make my GPS work...That is the type of GPS problem that I and some others are having.
try install the gpxfix or gps status from the market.. work well for me..
Same here...this didnt help.
Also installing GPS status did not help either.
As discussed in the nightlies thread, Cyanogen presumeably updated a crucial library responsible, among other, for GPS functionality which requires the/a new radio.
This also could explain why some users while having identical devices to other users do have GPS while others dont. They simply did upgrade the radio already earlier while the ones which are stuck with a bon-working GPS didnt and are still on the original radio, an "old" one in regards to the prerequisites of the "new" library added to the build.
Makes sense?

Yep...this is 100% correct.
And for what its worth, I went a head and flashed the new radio again just too see if in fact it does fix the GPS and yes it does.
Back to the T-Mobile US OTA radio and the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 or earlier.
not 100% correct, i have the new radio and still have the gps problem... i've seen at least one other person with the same.
But i'm using a Bell Desire Z, maybe thats why

Did you happen to use the app 'GPS Status' to check your gps after you upgraded? If not, what was the first gps application that you opened after you upgraded to CM7, if you can remember?
Scratch that....just reflashed the radio and nightly 13. Gps works a charm now! Thanks

Im on the stock ROM and have a problem. I think the GPS on these phones are messed up big time. Here is my problem.
stock rom with ota update and ota update radio= no GPS AT ALL it will just stick there blinking tryin to get a fixed signal but it wont! Happens in alll my GPS app not just maps.
So I downgraded my radio to the pre-ota one and GPS gets a fix but takes a minute or so.. after that I can leave the app and come back and itll refix itself within 5 seconds (what it should be normally).. So even downgraded I still have slight issues with gps.. plus for some reason if I loose signal for more than 5 mins on this radio it wont ever get a signal unless I reboot.
Im going to try your method but dont think itll work since my problem is not Maps specific.
EDIT: this seems to have worked, even on my the ota radio. I just dont understand why Maps would break GPS for all apps. Funny things is when something like this usually happens I clear app data but didnt do it here because it was all my GPS apps.
I'm glad it has worked for a couple people anyway. I don't know what the problem is that causes this, but it has worked on the ROMs I've flashed, so I figured it might be a good step to take before updating radios and things like that. Just in case the solution is as simple as just stopping Maps and clearing the data... If you have done more modification to your phone beyond just flashing ROMs, then this may not work for you since the problem may be bad radios or other issues. If you are just a ROM flasher without tweaking too much else, then this may solve your problemo.

I used to not have GPS issues either - european Desire Z btw - having said that, CM7 #14 breaks with that uuhm... tradtion. It's the first build giving me no GPS unless a new-ish (the 26.04 and 26.06 works) radio is flashed.
So wat is the new radio, I recently flashed a different radio but I'm not sure if its the latest radio out. Thx

Follow the instructions in this thread. Flash the updater and then the efs wipe tool through recovery.

Hi,
I am having trouble with GPS on my desire since installing gingervillain. On both versions 1.4 and 1.5 GPS just doesn't seem to be working at all. I've tried a factory reset from the recovery menu and have tried re-applying the zip file but with no luck. GPS is enabled but I don't even get an icon on the status bar at the top when it is supposed to be searching for a signal.
Thanks,
Chris
Reach for the skies
Go outside of your house. Point your phone to the sky. Your position should should showing on your GPS.
Or it could be the program itself? Try different gps using apps like maps, facebook places etc etc.
Also do post what radio you're currently using on your phone. It could help people diagnose your problem better.
Tried outside and using gpstest off the market with no luck. I don't usually have any problem with gps inside my house anyway. I don't even get an icon in the status bar at the top it's like it's not working at all. And before anyone says yes it is switched on! My current version is:
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Any help would be much appreciated!

You must have the worlds strongest GPS in your desire. In normal ones, you need to be outside with the phone pretty much able to see the sky. On top of that, ideally it will need to be a clear sky.
Turn on GPS, open up Google Maps / your Navigation software (while outside). On my phone it only used to show the GPS icon in the task bar when a program was running that could use it.
Alternatively download GPS tools from the market (I forget the exact name).
If your GPS is indeed stuffed, take your phone back (if its under warrantee).
My GPS died on my phone. Completely. And before that it kept rebooting the phone. Had to take it back.

Hi
very interested in this thread as my GPS worked fine until I installed Gingervillain 1.4 last week and then updating to 1.5 on Friday
Radio : 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
I downgraded to GV 1.0 and my GPS was working ok again. I heard there was a known GPS problem fixed in GV 1.6 so I upgraded but the problem returned unfortunately. Any ideas?
Update the kernel with Villain set up, it cured my GPS problem.
GVChangelog:
Version 1.6:
* Fixed GPS problem (Thanks to CM Team)
+ kernel update defo works.

Hi,
Could you advise how I go about that? I thought the Kernel was updated as part of the gingervillain setup anyway?
Well I've had more fun with this! I just couldn't get GPS working on anything other than GV 1.0. I completely wiped my SD card and re-formatted the EXT3 partition. I then installed the stock RUU at which point GPS was predictably working. I then went through the flashing process of GV 1.6 and GPS was working this time. It was fine for a week or so but then the GPS stopped working again! I'm thinking it must be something to do with the dalvik cache now, that's the only reason I can think of for the GPS to stop working. I'm running out of patience with GV now so does anyone have suggestions for another stable 2.3 ROM I can move onto?
Thanks again,
Chris
When using GPS it always says waiting for location no matter where I am..but on my zte blade its almost instant.
This happened on reduce rom, and now on cm7.
Please help as I need GPS alot

GPS is buggy in those 2.3 GB ROMs.
However one of them has it working fully (Gingervillain or latest Redux, I think).
But if you use it a lot stick with 2.2 ROMs.
Try another Radio or Kernel
tried all suggested but no luck.
Which CM7 build are you using? I had this problem with CM7 RC1 and RC2 but after I switched to RC3, GPS started to work.
GPS could be faulty. Flash the stock RUU, test again, and take it back if it still doesn't work.
Had this a couple of times before. I used fast reboot from the market to stop and start apps and processes worked a treat for me.
Make sure you disable GPS before you run the app. Hope it helps.
The thing is, that the GPS works fine when i get a GPS lock/fix.
But it takes so long to connect e.g 1-5mins.
My ZTE Blade has an instant 3-10sec lock every time.
So i was looking for way to fix the gps on my Evo 4g running CM7 RC4 and i came across this fix:http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/fzqnc/evo_cyanogenmod_7_gps_fixprls_and_htc_sense/
If i back up my rom and then flash the Fresh Rom fix the gps and then flash back to my back up, will i lose my apps? More importantly i do not want to lose my progress in Angry Birds. Thanks
yeah you can use nandroid for this fix. Just warnen ya though, that's what I did initially and I've been having trouble recently. I just fresh formatted everything today.
Nandroid backup your current setup, flash the Sense Rom, do the fix, then nandroid restore. You can always use Titanium Backup to backup your apps + data in any situation. As long as you backup Angry Birds with TB, you can restore your progress.
Also, try GPS status in market. I'm running cm7 rc4 and get perfect lock after doing this.

What's strange is that GPS Status has worked for me so far, but it doesn't work at all for my brother running an Evo, exact same parameters.

I can confirm that GPS Status did not work for me. I'm running CM7 final and I'm still getting flaky GPS. It locks for a second, then turns off. It will turn back on after a few minutes, lock, and turn back off.
So I tried GPS Status and cleared the GPS cache and downloaded the A-GPS data, etc. Same thing. Even in the GPS Status app, the GPS turns on, find a lock, then turns back off.
Therefore, I grabbed MSL Reader, wrote down my MSL code, flashed Sprint Lover, and while in Sprint Lover, turned on GPS, got a lock, performed ##GPS fix and entered MSL code, rebooted, tried GPS again and it worked, updated PRL while I was in Sprint Lover, and everything worked. Then wiped everything, flashed the new CM7 final and can confirm (though limited testing) that GPS is working now as it should. It doesn't flake out on me anymore. I'll test it on my way home tonight.
Hope this helps...

Yep, this works. The GPS Status app never worked for me, but flashing back to SL, performing the GPS fix, and back to RC4 worked. Now on CM7 Final, GPS is working OK.
When you restore your nandroid backup, everything will be exactly like it was, but you can backup your apps with titanium to be sure.
worked 4 me mahalo
Running decks 1.1 and tiamat 4.0.1. GPS status fixed all my problems.
Excuse me im sorry if im ignorant, but what is Sprint Lover?
Thank You!
It is a Rom that looks just like the factory Sprint rom with some tweaks. Here is a link.

Hi folks,
I am running CM7 stable and I had the GPS problem big time. It wouldn't work at all.
I read this post and tried out the fix.
I flashed Koni Elite III ROM, booted it using amon ra, updated prl, then profile, did the ## Gps fix as linked above, checked GPS on the sense rom and it was working, went back into recovery and reflashed CM 7 from nandroid backup, didnt wipe anything, and all is absolutely great again, the GPS locks instantly and Google maps and navigation works fine and dandy....... easy 10 minute fix.

+1 yup, this works all the time.
All I did was turn off "allow mock locations" and rebooted the phone. GPS Status now gets a near instant fix and Google Maps works again. Not sure if it will work for everyone but it sure is easier than having to fiddle with the software.
