[Q] Deleted files in /data/app - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I am desprate for help here.
I foolishly deleted all the files in /data/app folder using root explorer, I am quiet sure they were al apk files but I guess I was wrong.
Now alot of apps do not work like marketplace, gmail, maps, navigation etc. When i try to run it says "Application is not installed on your phone"
Please help, I have no idea what do now.

What rom are you running?
Flash gapps to get your market back and start from there.
Have fun!

Try reflashing the rom

you can grab the rom/gapps and just push them back into data..but best thing to do is a wipe and flash rom and gapps again

about to root, which rom? (Telstra Branded)

I have decided to finally root my desire was wondering, in everyone's opinion, which is the best custom rom to go with? The one off Modaco's forum seems to be the pick of the town???

They all have their merits. Get ROM Manager. Flash a ROM, create a backup, flash another. Then you can just restore from backups, with all your settings for that specific ROM saved, and keep switching between them until you find one you love.
Does that also backup additional installed apps and their data as well? Just in case I start setting myself up with a new rom, install some apps and then decide to flash another rom?
Cheers
I'm sending this from a telstra desire running defrost. Been good to me so far but I still run out if memory which is a bit of a worry. Heard the official update is coming so might not be worth it.

[Q] CyanogenMOD, where is the market?

So I recently installed CM6 RC1 on my evo, and i guess there isn't a market app on this ROM along with a lot of other apps I actually wanted from my old htc stock ROM. How can i get the market back? Also is there a way I can bring back other apps from the old htc stock?

like calendar, since the only way i can get onto the calendar preloaded with cm can only be used with an exchange server, weather, etc.
User launcher pro plus instead of adw launcher. It has sense like widgets.

That will take longer than to just re-download them.
Go back to the thread and read EVERYTHING in the original post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
It's probably a good idea for you to read this post too, even if you're not going to mess with flashing nightlies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729802

Gmail.apk

Hello pplz. I installed CM 7 mod over the weekend. All went well except for the gapps. I downloaded the gapps from the provided link and flashed it using recovery. But gmail, market and goggle maps failed to install. And they were also not be shown in the market. I searched the net and found the apks of all. Market and maps were installed successfully and gmail gives the error of application not installed.
Then using root explorer I copy the gmail.apk to the system folder n still smell problem.
Please tell me a way to install Gmail
Apk.
Thanks

Were you using a different ROM before? And if so did you wipe before installing CM7?

yes did both the things
Check the permissions and you need to be s-off if using root explorer.

That is strange then. Personally, I successfully installed CM7 and then (during the same session within recovery) Google apps and had no problems whatsoever.
What kind of error message did you receive when flashing Google apps in recovery? Did you confirm that checksum of the Google appps file was correct?
And are you sure you downloaded this file:

And no some other by a mistake?

Thanks for the link, when you say flash the it? flash the gapps using clockworkmod?
Yes, put the file on the root of your SD card and flash it as you would do with any other rom.
ROM Manager premium can download Gapps on the phone and flash it for you, piece of cake.
<--CM7
Having same question
Do CM7 users just don't use Market to get apps?
get g apps from cm official site.. put it in your sd card and flash it using cwm
and then you will have market installed on your devce with all other google apps

Yah, I got them, just wondering why they aren't included in CM7
Thanks for the reply, I have now flashed gapps. I have now a market. but my gmail and youtube is always force closing. any ideas?
and also I want the old messaging from wfs, it has a backup and restore feature, any suggestions for cm7?
Use Go sms pro, the best app for sms.

[Q] Cyanogen 7.1 and HTC Sence

Hello, I have HTC Desire HD. I rooted the phone with Ace Hack Kit and installed Cyanogen on the phone. I have a few questions:
1. I did a rom backup with all my apps installed with ROM manager just before I did the install. Then I did the factory erase and did a rom backup again saving it under a different name. My question is when you do a rom backup does it backups everything such as your apps, messages in inbox...
2. On HTC I had HTC sence so If I lose my phone I would be able to trace it and lock it or erase it. Can I install this on Cyanogen?
3. I had some messages in inbox, but they didnt come back when I synhronized. I was wondering if they are stored somewhere in the rom backup and if I can extract them back or I can just install the rom backup?
Thank you all for help
1. Do not know about the sms/mms, but it backs up everything apps ect, and you will find those in clockwork recovery / restore / advanced restore / system /data (i think)
2. Go to the market and install Cerberus, its classed as a free app but it does ask for a 2euro donation to unlock all features, which is the cheapest app on the market for what it offers you in protection with out any monthly fees ect.
3. Text messages are not synced with google servers, if they are stored on the backup i dont know what they would be under maybe someone else can help you out with that one, but imo they are only text messages, im pretty sure it wont be long before someone else texts you again. (You could always in the future use smsbackup and just make a backup before you flash a new rom again)
Try titanium to back everything
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
in the first question, I think it will restore the whole things such as the ROM
