HTC Desire solves dodecahedron Rubik's Cube, will blow your mind + Video - Desire General

A very interesting video that i thought i would share with you.
If this image doesn't have you completely dumbfounded, scroll down and watch the video. Sufficiently awestruck? Good. Now, for a little background on exactly how someone got a pile of Legos and a smartphone to solve the devil's puzzle Megaminx. The aptly titled Megaminxer enlists the Mindstorms NXT kit to do the dirty work and an HTC Desire, running a custom Android app, as the brains of the operation. Said app uses the phone's camera to take individual images of each of the puzzle's 12 faces, then processes the information and sends a signal via Bluetooth to the NXT controller, which in turn goes to town. Unfortunately, there's no explaining how they got the Android to dance like that, but, really, why ruin the magic?

[ROM]3.25.2011 Continuum Clean (In Progress)

Ok, so normally I hate placeholders, but I'd like to give you guys an update of where I am at. Once I am finished tweaking, I will release. The base rom is done, now the modding and tweaking needs to happen.
So far:
--------------
Deodexed, Debloated, Debinged, and mostly, detouchwizzed. Debinged...even in the framework. I think* all Bing traces are gone now.
Visual voice mail gone, voice mail button in dialer opens Google Voice.
Verizon Wireless carrier banner replaced with something....better.
MMS app will not longer do multi-part messages, but instead convert to MMS automatically once the 160 character mark is hit.
GPS tweaked.
Wow in one day of having the phone you have a rom halfway competed
Sent from my Rooted Space Time Continuum w/h a 2600mAh battery
:3
Wow, I can't wait for this even though we have had bad experiences with place holders, I know this isn't the case lol..
I don't know how many times I'm going to say thank you, but here is another thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA Premium App
along the lines of changes to the voicemail button.....it would be awesome if the ticker's voicemail icon could correspond to Google Voice...but I am sure that is a lot more involved than changing the button's link in the Dialer.
a similar desire exists for the sms icon to correspond to Handcent
I used titanium backup to remove the stock messaging app and that killed the ticker's SMS icon functionality....I saved the stock app to reinstall but that introduces a different problem....the ticker icon doesn't go away reliably after having read the text in Handcent.
maybe this thread wasn't intended for our wish list items.....if that is the case, I apologize.
thanks for your help to our little Continuum family!
thanks for the help here adryn! my wife has the continuum, and i got hers to load red recovery, and the other modded rom.
question on this rom you are building..will it have the bstats and fxpms scripts? are the ones for fascinate compatable with contunuum?
thanks...

curious (warning - n00b question) - would it be possible to make the GV VM connection optional for those of us who don't use GV?
Also, what do you mean by GPS tweaked? The only thing i've noticed about mine is when i'm out geocaching with c:geo or using google maps to navigate while walking, sometimes the compass seems to be off by 180 degrees. when driving, google nav seems fine - likely since it can figure out direction based on previous locations in the same way it figures speed, but i don't walk fast enough for it to figure out direction - especially when geocaching since i'm always stopping to look for the cache.
all told - that's pretty impressive that you knocked out so much stuff in the short time you have had the phone! Thanks for your help with this device!
Any chance you have cracked open the ticker, or at least made it more useful to people who don't use the stock apps (that is... EVERYONE)?
One suggestion i saw somewhere (probably here) really interested me - put the notification area in the ticker screen and make it big enough to fill it, so you dont' have to try and hook into their custom ticker app - just use the existing system one, only relocated/resized. that way all system notifications (no matter what app they're from) will be visible in the ticker, all the time, as well as the time of day, and apps won't have to be custom-written to take advantage of the ticker; they'd just WORK.
I just can't wait till it is out I am looking forward to it

shoot - as long as it doesn't affect anything else, i'd take that over the annoying, noisy crap vzw put on there. is the shutdown screen also black/silent?
I don't have the phone right here handy atm but, I've already downloaded the Rom and alt browser. looking forward to flashing it to my boy's phone! I know he'll be happy too. One thing I love about these Android phones is how they give us the ability to have that "new phone" feeling any time we like, thanks to their rich development community. This is one thing the Continuum crowd has missed out on until now.

[Q] Some general questions about Sense from a new Android user

Hey everyone!
I am formerly of the Windows Mobile camp and finally made the jump over to Android. My Droid Incredible 2 comes in [hopefully] by the end of this week. I've played with Android as a dual boot on my HTC Touch Pro2, but it certainly doesn't compare to the look and feel of a real Android device.
So, I have a few questions that have been burning in my mind, maybe some folks could help me out.
What are the different versions of Sense on HTC's Android devices? I hear good things about the newest version, but I am told that the DInc2 doesn't have the latest and greatest.
Does anyone playing with the leaked Gingerbread ROM know if the Sense version was updated at all, or are there hardware requirements stopping that from happening?
What is up with HTCSense.com, I hear the DInc2 won't be compatible with the site, any idea why? It seems like a really good value-added type of feature.
What are some of the benefits of the upgrade to Gingerbread?
Any good suggestions for managing notifications? My fiancee just got the DInc2 and she charges it in a different room. I like to use my phone as an alarm clock, but I noticed notifications going off all night on her phone. Any way to stop notifications between certain hours or even just toggle them on and off easily? Ideally I would like to automate this with a way to override sometimes.
Any general advice that folks have for the phone itself?
Thanks everyone, and sorry for the extremely noob questions.

Kind of like Timeriffic??
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alfray.timeriffic&feature=search_result
sense was not and will not be updated throughout the gingerbread roll out for the dinc2, probably any bugs or issues in the system will be addressed but i don't see them giving us a different version at all.
Thanks for the help folks!
Shush and Timeriffic seem like they might be what I am looking for. I'm not too hung up on Sense being an older version, I think what I was thinking of was when I heard HTCSense.com and its backup utility was said to be not compatible with the DInc2. From other things I have read, it appears that it will purposely never be compatible because of Verizon.
I'm also really really hoping this phone gets the ability to play Netflix Streaming. If the original Incredible can get it, I can't see why they can't find a way to make it compatible with the newer model.

Interactive boot screen

Hi guys. I don't know about you, but I'd love to play a little game while the phone boots up.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Me too, would be great if one of the techies could some up with something...
it's like me saying : i want to make a phone call while it's booting up Lol
You two are taking the biscuit
Not necessarily, some resources are dedicated during a boot to run an animation sequence or soundclip.
BUT I think at best it would be something akin to the Wii progress bar where you make Mario jump as he runs across the screen.

the title of thread : Interactive :means he wants to play a game or something while the phone is booting up.
bootanimation: you can't interact with it
you can't interact with the phone ,till when its fully booted
We are merely assuming that the current code during its boot sequence blocks any input whether from the display or hardware keys. We are further ASSUMING that perhaps a limited interactivity could perhaps be unlocked via new code.
You've made your stance perfectly clear on this so why bother trying to undermine what others deem to be a potentially novel feature?
There's actually research to support that end-users are much more patient when waiting for a download or load time if there's some form of interactivity involved, thus making the initial wait seem all the more shorter.

A game could simply be a key input to correspond to a rough graphic blob. Pop the weasel.

You can interact whilst its booting up. Take ChainFire's logcat and dmsg apps. Whilst booting you can tap the screen to change which one you want, split, logcat or dmsg. Whether or not it's possible to have a game who knows but nothing is impossible.

I would be surprised if they did because Sense is closed source. HTC might frown on someone using their propriety software.
.....
If you wanted sense, why didn't you just buy an evo3d. I had sense on my droid incredible and it drove me insane. So buggy and so in your face. A phone shouldn't make thunder noises. There were times I went to my homescreen and couldn't see my icons because there were random clouds on the screen lol. Seriously. The widgets are pretty, but use them for a couple of days and see just how bug and unusable they are. The news reader literally doesn't have a mark all as read button. So you either have to individually mark each story as read or just ignore the little unread story counter. The music widget doesn't update itself when the song changes with the screen off. In addition, the album art in the actually app isn't cached, so you see the album art visibly reload everytime you interact with the app. The bookmark widget stores a new thumbnail everytime you visit a webpage, but it doesn't delete the old one. So your sd card fills up with old thumbnails. The weather app almost always has a temperature that is 10 degrees off, even if you just refreshed. Try to enter a custom location in the weather app, I can almost guarantee it won't find it even if you enter the zip. So you have to enable automatic location, which is frequently wrong and drains your battery.
I hate sense and will never buy another sense phone. Rant over.
If bubby gets this phone he might... He did for the ns4g i think..

The Ever Elusive "Miracast" Feature

Okay let's see if we can clear this up, cause I've seen many different unanswered posts on this subject, and my brains about to turn to goo
Alright, Google announced that Miracast (screen mirroring for display on a compatible smart TV) would be included in version 4.2 . Obviously, this feature would only apply to devices that already contain the necessary internal hardware (such as Samsung devices that come stock with AllShare Cast (not AllShare Play which is just a WiFi-Direct/dlna push app))
With dlna/WiFi-direct you can, with the press of one button, send almost any picture, movie, or sound file to a smart device. Which always works for me.
With Miracast (also known as Wireless-Display) you can show your whole device screen on your TV so you can do whatever you want on your phone, but show it on your TV at the same time.
So why is this feature not only NOT included in most ROMs, but the stock feature itself has been stripped from the ROMs as well??
How do I get it?
My brain is so close to exploding I can feel the cold hand of Death on my shoulder

I use it to mirror my phone on my appradio 2 in my car. I asked this question long ago in a thread which u replied to. It looks like we are the only 2 who care
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
My opinion is pure speculation.
I would imagine that since our device has not had an official release above 4.1.2, Miracast is probably something that is low on any dev's priority list (as was HDMI out for a long time for AOSP etc... hell I don't even know if it has been fixed).
I would imagine that it would be pretty hard to build or cook into a ROM for our device since we do not have the official drop (yet) and on top of that, it would be pretty hard to test since it seems only two/three members of these Note II threads are wondering about it (although it would be a neat feature). IMHO anything that I would share with my TV would be photos and videos; both are easily accessed through my DLNA device (PS3) over WLAN.
Also, there is the external hardware needed for Miracast to work and I can imagine a lot of us do not have said device (Push2TV or a Miracast certified HDTV) and so to test it, a dev would have to go out and grab it or count on the community to have it for testing... I think a lot of that energy and time would probably be best put towards stability and solving more "popular" issues.
Again, pure speculation.
It would be a neat feature but after all of the reviews I've seen on it, there needs to be a lot of work done to smooth it out in the first place.
Damn shame too... AppleTV's got this feature down very well...
You guys want to take a look into the Chromecast threads.
I'll just say this I have All Cast working again on my device no problem:thumbup:
I DO understand we'll like the mirroring thing to work but maybe it'll take sometime to get it functioning correctly.
But you can take a look HERE:
