[Q] Cleanest way to uninstall app? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So far I have been uninstalling apps by dragging the icon from my app drawer onto the homescreen with ADW EX launcher, and then long pressing the icon and selecting uninstall. That brought me to the uninstall screen where i proceeded to uninstall stuff.
However, I am worried that I will leave behind crap folders in the SD card; random leftover remnants that the uninstall failed to remove. I see a lot of folders in my sd card that belongs to apps i once had but no longer have.
Is there a 100% clean way of uninstall crap off of my phone?

just use a file manger from the market and delete the folders. I do not know of a way to get rid of the SD card contents AND the app at the same time though, sorry.

What i do is i pull open the app drawer, menu, remove app, tap the app, force stop, tap clear data, then uninstall.
That should do the trick i think

Either that or Linda app manager. Linda file + app managers and must haves!

google "sd maid" its an app that clears out the files left behind by the uninstalled apps.

I would recommend using the "File Manager" and delete the folders upon uninstalling (or) Plug into your computer and clean your sdcard. I clean my sdcard every month to conserve a little memory. Just go through every folder and delete stuff you don't need.

I think you can do that with titanium backup

There's instructions in the skyraider sense FAQ thread on how to remove the vzw apps.

Also, not sure if it'll work, but you might try the sense removal script provided by jitajt:

buy rootexplorer from the market.
Just a quick question regarding removing bloatware on the Droid Incredible;
I went through root explorer and changed the names of the Verizon bloatware that came on the phone out of the box, but I can't seem to get the Visual Voicemail removed from the app drawer.
When I open up my messaging it doesn't have the choice at the bottom when sliding through "All Messages" and "SMS/MMS" (which is good) and when clicking on it it brings me to said Messages application, but it's presence in the app drawer still bothers me even though it does nothing. Any ideas?

How do you do it with rootexplorer? I have rootexplorer and I'm not sure how to do it. Thanks
Just use terminal or ADB shell and as root, navigate to /system/app, and rm -r whatever you want. You can **** some stuff up if you get rid of essential apps. I'm not responsible if you don't nandroid backup.

You have to modify the Mms.apk to get rid of the icon if you go into the apk with 7zip and delete the png's for vvm you won't have to re-sign the app then just push it to your phone in recovery with adb. Or you can use the Evo Mms.apk that won't put a vvm icon in our app drawer.

Replace default apps

how can i replace stock rom apps like phone or contacts or messages with rocketdialer? I've tried to remove them with titanium backup but i had to restore them because i was receiving force close everytime.
I would like not to leave them installed(the stock apps) and set thr other apps like default from app manager.10x
Do something that requires you to select a default application ( like opening settings then going to the home screen to select your default launcher), then set it as default and use root explorer to remove the apk file in /system/app/ - make sure that read only is off by toggling the button at the top.

Way to choose location the gallery loads media from???

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
As in, I don't want movies to show up. I also don't want folders with icons showing up. I've also had beautiful Widgets themes I have downloaded show up. Its very cluttered

If you use quickpic you have an option on folders to not show media from that location (basically puts a .nomedia file in the folder). I don't know about just removing video from a folder though.

1. Use something like Root Explorer (or just Explorer) and browse to the folders that contain these files, and inside them create a new file called:
.nomedia
(including the . at the beginning of the file name)
2. Now go into Gallery and force a Refresh from the menu. If that doesn't work, move on to #3
3. Go to Settings | Apps | All and do the following for Gallery and Media Storage:
Force Stop
Clear Cache
Clear Data
4. Reboot your phone.
Bear in mind, if you have custom ringtones/notifications set (meaning, files/sounds that are not stock) clearing cache/data for Media Storage will "break" them, you will just have to reconfigure them.
Using cm file manager, if you go into the folder in question, you can go into menu, and it gives an option to select exclude from media search, and auto adds the .no media file. After which refreshing the gallery yeilds no results. Tried step 3...which led to nothing being included, and no media being recognised in play music either. /cry

[Q] a few questions new andriod user her please HELP ME

hello guys, i did own a iphone but had so many problems so sold it and bought the htc one x while i love it and me being a first time android user i have a few questions please needing answered...ok here we go
1, the home screen wallpaper what size do i need to make one for just to have the middle home screen? so it will stay static across all homescreen's without scroll? what dimension's?
2, how do install ringtones, music , pictures as i'm on a macbook, can i just plug it into the usb to computer and drag and drop?
3, can i alter my default icons to different ones like the phone , sms icons etc...to custom ones i'm running stock everything as its brand new out the box yesterday and would like to keep it that way if possible...? is it possible?
4, how do i delete app's off the phone i no longer want?
5, i saw a app UCCW custom clock maker how can i install one's from here people have posted zip file for where do the files go? and can i use them running stock firmware etc out of the box?
1. 1280x720...someone please correct me if I'm wrong
2. I usually connect my phone and then open my phone's drive and extract my music files into the "dcim" folder. However you can also just use a program like windows media player or winamp or whatever else program and it should do the transferring part for you. Same with images, I put them in the dcim folder.
If you want to set a song or tune as your ring tone simply open your music app, touch and hold the song/tune you'd like to usw until an option menu extends. Option should be there, simply follow it
3. Yes, you can. However changing icons might only seem possible without rooting your phone if you use an external launcher. Try searching for "go launcher" in the play store. Or use "nova launcher".. note that you won't be able to use sense widgets on external launchers.

4. Open your app drawer, click and touch an app you would like to uninstall. The.background will turn to your home screen and the top right corner should be highlighted "uninstall". Simply drag your all over.
5. That is something someone else would have to answer, but they would be doing me a favor as well, haha! Good luck with your one x. Welcome on board
shadehh has replied most of your questions but I could add in .
4 . You can go to Setting > Apps and click on the apps you want to uninstall too . You can also download Easy Uninstaller from Play Store to have a more easy uninstalling experience .
5 . In android , we use a file type ".apk" to install stuff such as Window's ".exe" to install stuff and so on . So maybe the zip file of the app you mentioned consist the apk file in the zip and yes you can use them running stock firmware etc out of the box .
You can create a folder called "Ringtones" on the root directory of your sdcard and put whatever mp3 you want to use as your ringtone in it. This mp3 can then be selected from settings -> personalize -> sound -> ringtones.
The same goes for alarms and notifications. Just create folders called "Alarms" and "Notifications" on the root directory of your sdcard and they will be selectable in the personalization settings.

Missing icons

Hi guys,
I just got my g3 and something really strange happened.
I had the google folder on my homescreen and then deleted it, when i go into my apps i can't see the apps that were in that google folder.
I have to goto the playstore and open gmail from there. Is there any way i can get my icons back from the folder i deleted?
Just before anyone mentions, my apps aren't hidden. They're just gone
Those are just doors to your apps, you deleted the doors.
Just long press on your screen and a dialog will Pop up, go to apps and browse to the one you want, touch it and it should go to your screen.
Yup i know about that also...
I like to have a clean desktop...therefore i use the apps key all the time and access my apps from there.
Is there another way of getting my icons back to where all my other apps are?
