UK Z missing £ (pound) and € (euro) symbols hardware keyboard - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After spending a few months without the £ and € symbols working on my UK Desire Z (because nearly every ROM is based on the US G2, I think) I finally found a fix that works great!
See the below thread at the CM forums. Posted link here for reference of others who may have the same prob as I did

Multi-lingual Dictionary

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a Multi-lingual Dictionary, say English, Eng-German, Eng-Spanish, Eng-Italien etc.
I would like to know if there is a best deal available some where.
Pocket PC applications are very very expensive compared to Symbian. I bought a 6 Language SlovoEd dictionary for 15 EUR for my Nokia 7710 (Symbian OS) 6 months before.
Same dictionary For Pocket PC will cost me around 80+ EUR.
Any best deals??
Thanks,
-Ari

Wait for discounts
Hi.
LINGVOSOFT ROCKS!!! -The best dictionaries and they usualy are 2 way (not like some ohter English-Panda not Panda-English)
I already bought some stuf grom LINGVOSOFT and I figured out a way to get the dictionaries at a verry reasonable amount.
First check what you want and on the page there must be a link with discounts. So just insert your emaul adress and you will keep getting discounts up to about 70%-80% less.
One of the dict I bought was original price $50 and I got it with $20 that's about 60-70%off. I could have waited for maybe another discount email offer from them but it just seemd a bargain at that price Knowing it is both ways.
Or just give them an offer with just the 30% of the price and see what happens.
Good luck.

Samsung keyboard dock?

Does anyone have or heard of any information on the keyboard dock? I imagined that it would have been released by now.
Perhaps they are holding back on it, because I heard Samsung is going to be making another big announcement in October. No word from the press on what it could be.

It is currently available in the UK with a UK keyboard layout. I contacted Samsung Support a few days ago to ask about the release of the US keyboard, and all they could tell me was that it is "coming soon". No ETA, no part number, nothing else at all. I told them to pass on to that product team that it was a "high priority" for customers.
man wish they would hurry it up already....cant wait
Yes, it would be nice if they let it out. I mean, this is ridiculous to release the product without its accessories. I want to use the tablet as a laptop when I travel instead of the heavy laptop I have now.

Do you know where the UK layout is available? I've found a few but I'm rather curious if you know a link to it.
I picked up my one yesterday at the Amsterdam airport. It was about 59 euros I belive.... now I just need a case to transport the note 10.1 and the keyboard safley.
The N8000 version is $64.

Interesting, I just did another round of Googling for the keyboard dock and it looks like more variants are slowly trickling out. So far, I've found the following models. I've shared links where you can see the differing key layouts. It *looks* like the Hong Kong version has a US key layout, but I can find nowhere on the globe to buy it (well, nowhere I can read at least. I am not fluent in Cantonese).
Hong Kong, EKD-K14AWEGTGY (link)
Australia, EKD-K14AWEGSTD (link)
UK, EKD-K14UWEGSTD (sale link, key layout)
Korea, EKD-K14KWEG??? (link)

Getting it in the UK

Hi all,
From all that I have seen it doesn't look like the ZL will be officially available in the UK. As such the options for buying a C6503 model are:
Import from Europe
It's quite expensive at the moment, and the retailer which should have no problems shipping abroad (Amazon) had the highest price of them all last time I checked. I can definitely see this working fine, with the German version having en_GB locale support and playing nicely with the operators.
Import from Asia (ie HK)
From Expansys (http://www.expansys.com.hk/sony-xperia-zl-lte-c6503-unlocked-16gb-black-247249) the total works out cheaper by about £60, with the shipping not being much slower. The other positives are that in HK they use the same power plugs as in the UK (no need to mess with power adaptors), and en_GB would definitely come preloaded as a locale. The only worry is that the manufacturer model quoted is 'AP_C6503_BLK', where the 'AP' stands for the Asia-Pacific version. I'm wondering whether this could have any implications on the hardware and software. I suppose as software goes it should always be possible to reflash it to a German firmware, but I can't help but think that something could be different.
Also found this: http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=21943
Despite coming up on Google Shopping with good reviews, I found other review websites which seemed to suggest the opposite. They also claimed to have had it in stock two or three weeks ago (I've been following this page for a while), when it wasn't even released in Europe. Both of these make me think that this website is a bit dodgy, and make me wonder where the device originally comes from (HK, Germany, Russia?).
I'm seriously inclining towards the second option, but I'm wondering whether anyone around here has previous experience or some information that might be able to help make the best choice.
Thanks.
Amazon Germany and Amazon Italy now have it for circa €560.
Nooo!! do not buy from simply electronics! I had an awful experience and a quick Google will give you the same feedback.
I am in the UK. Love the phone.
I bought mine from eBay from a seller in HK. Took 2 days to arrive via FedEx $599
Seller: jetcodigital
Expect to pay import tax although they did send as a gift with value of $100 so you might be lucky.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured about Simply Electronics.
So presumably the device you have is an Asia-Pacific version. Did you notice any differences or oddities when it came to the software/hardware?
Thanks for the feedback, I haven't actually checked eBay yet but will give it a quick look.
Hi I haven't noticed anything strange yet. Seems like the right version for me. No odd software or anything. I'm using it on three UK. Everything has worked great right out of the box. Very pleased.
Now I can sell my htc ONE. ( ZL camera is better )

Another 3 uk user here, got my 6503 for ~£500 after shipping and tax from the states seller: never-msrp.
Even works on 3's secret LTE
Only issue is the US AC adapter.
I am gonna buy a white 6503 version from the German site; Cyberport.de
They can send it to several countries and the prices for that aren't that high.
The phone itself will cost you €550,00 and the shipping to the Netherlands (where I live) are only €13,00.
They've got the black version in stock, and the white version (that I want) is gonna be there in several days.
If you want to check out other stores in Germany:
Geizhals.de: black Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: white Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: red Sony Xperia ZL
Well, I ended up buying it from Amazon.de, which worked out to pretty much £500 after shipping and currency conversion. While Expansys.com.hk would have been cheaper, I felt that the European warranty was worth the additional price.
The funny thing is that I ordered yesterday and I should get it tomorrow. Ordering a device which isn't available in the UK, from Amazon.de, and guess what? The device was in the Milton Keynes distribution centre! Seems almost ridiculous, really.
Let us know how you get on.

Yeah it will be white for me, only little thing is that the notification led is better to see on the black one I think...
But I don't like the shiny sides of the black one, and when I first saw the white version I fell in love, so that's why.
And I think the notificationbar and bar with the buttons will look better on the white, on the black ZL it looks so greyish.
I got mine today, and man... it sure looks good and feels nice. It feels a bit heavy, compared to my S3, but I'll get used to that. The screen also looks good when looking at it directly, but gets worse as soon as the viewing angle increases. Although I suppose this is a good thing, as other people trying to look at my device shouldn't see as much as on my S3! The bezel on the side looks a bit bigger than on the pictures, but it's not a big deal. Overall when looking at video or pictures fullscreen it looks stunning, since there is so little bezel.
Now, since I'm a power user, I'm wondering whether I want to unlock the bootloader or just root. I actually don't mind Sony's customisations that much (barring Chrome instead of the stock browser, and the standard Gallery app), however if CM becomes stable enough I might put it on. Perhaps just the root for locked bootloaders will be good enough for now.
Nice to know some others in the uk have one. It's an exclusive club!)
Great phone so far for me. No regrets and no disappointment. I feel the same about the viewing angles. I'm stock all the way for once so will enjoy the factory experience.
I'm trialing the battery saving features at the moment. So far today I have had some good results. I'm not one for these features normally but I thought a the phone has had them I would give it a go.
