What's so special with the new alliance between Sprint and Google Voice? I've been using Google as my voicemail forever. I guess Sprint wants to offload all their voicemail to them.

I've read that. Being able to have 2 different numbers is a feature I would hate to lose.
As much as I love Google, getting support is terrible (even with their premier package). I can't imagine what would happen if you had an issue with your number.

I think the only difference will be you can decide to have all your incoming calls go through GV without having to port your sprint number. Otherwise it just stays just the way it is

Here is the deal I have a friend that has Verizon. She has unlimited texting from Verizon to Verizon phones. Since we have sprint phones is there a app that would allow you to text on the Verizon network on order for them to use unlimited messages

The only thing I can think of would be google voice.

...LOL.......Verizon txt app

haha, set your phone to roam only. more than likely you'll send a txt over verizons network.
Problem is the carrier has a block of numbers that the fcc assigns to them and the system would recognize your number as a sprint number not a vrz number.

What plan do you have OP? AFAIK, the EVO requires an "Everything" plan and those typically include unlimited text messaging to any network.
Sorry OP, but texting doesn't work like that. It will ALWAYS be done through the carrier your phone uses for calls. The only way to get around this is email-to-text (send an email to your target's email-txt number, like [email protected]) or to use Google Voice for texts.

hope this helps
Did this come from an App ?
Someone just texted you, either randomly or you gave them your number. Keep in mind many apps can see your phone number, like the Facebook app for example. The Facebook app in some cases actually lets your friends facebook apps, not Android apps but Facebook apps through the Android app, see your number.
Just ignore it. On other carriers I would recommend blocking the number but it really doesn't matter since you have unlimited texting on sprint. You can block numbers easily on sprint and on google voice though, so if it is bothering you just block the number on sprints website or on the google voice site, depending on which you use.

lmao I got one of these a while ago. I got a text bombing app and sent them 1000 texts telling them to f off. havent got another text from them
I just bombed that number for reassurance.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Be sure to add them to your block list as well.
So if I login to sprint I can set call filters?
That Google voice should I set it up?
I thought I didn't need it?
Got a text like this too... Maybe 2 a month. Just found out sprint charged me for one international text. Must be an app causing this. Either way I suggest saving it if you ever receive another, in case sprint wants to charge. Or just bomb the number.
Epic-ly tapped from my Galaxy SII
What's the name of the text bombing app lol?

I don't recommend bombing the internatioal one.. That could be kinda spendy.

Google it my man, found mine within 20 seconds of reading this thread... even came with a QR Barcode, used Google Goggles and didn't even have to mess with the SD card
To save a few bucks I use Google Voice exclusively. One thing that I hate about GV is that the ui is lacking and the text messages are treated like emails not like text message in the sense that I can have 20 conversation with my Mom or Girlfriend as opposed to the stock messaging app where they are all together. Another annoyance was that I couldnt get the GV notification/notification on lock screens. This app basically uses your stock messaging app to send GV messages. You still cant send mms. You can choose to send either native message or Google Voice. This is a trial version. The developer says this May not work for all roms. Oh yeah you have to be rooted.

GTalk & GVoice aren't designed to "send" media (say a picture) in the same way MMS goes about it.
You could always just use your GMail app and tap labels, to switch to the chats/gv label & read your sexy messages to your mom.....errrrrrr my bad, girlfriend I meant to say.
I save my contacts number. Then I text them Through Gvoice and when they reply I get their Gvoice number and I just save and edit that into their contacts. And I just text them thru the stock messaging app and receive messages there like normal.

Was doing that when I had prepaid plan with unlimited text. Now that I am on the value plan I just don't pay for it at all, hence I use GV and now I can use the stock messaging ap

I'm currently on the prepaid plan with unlimited text and data with 100mins.
What is ur value plan and how does it save u money. Can u explain further I'm kind of confused. I was thinking about switching plans.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I pay about 60 for unlimited data and 500 minutes plus free wifi calling, nights and weekends. I got tired of having only 100 minutes paying for. 10/minutes. Or dealing with voip apps which don't always work. I also pay an extra 20/month. Since I can't buy the gs3 upfront. Before I had the payment plan and the unlimited data I was paying about 50/month
Sent from my SCH-I110 using xda premium
Oh okay that makes sense. Yeah the low voice minutes r hard to not go over but I really need the data. I can't afford that much for an individual plan as I'm a student but I have been trying to get a good deal and get a family plan.

After using this ap for a month I can say this fails. At first it was too good to be true, then people started not getting my text, I wasn't receiving theirs, I would get duplicates randomly, sometimes my whole GV inbox would start crouding my text message inbox. Needless to say uninstalled now waiting for my GV number to be ported to T-Mobile so tired of GV lol

That never happened to me I never even use the voice app just the stock messaging one. How did u get our number to port and did cost to port it ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yeah. This app flat out blows.
It cost $3 for google to unlock your number so it can be ported out.

Does anyone else have issues using GVoice for voicemail? With every other phone I've had its been a 10 second setup, but with every rom I've tried on my S3 I can't get it to work.

Initially it cost me $20 to port my cell number to GV. Unfortunately, when I switched from Sprint to TMO, I could no longer use my cell number as my GV number.
Although since I have a 808 area code and now live in 843 area code, my new GV number is 843 area code.
I can only find the pay visual voicemail app. Sprint had an app where the voicemail would be sent to your phone and you could listen to the sound file without calling your voicemail. Does AT&T not have anything like that?
Before anyone says it, I don't want to use Google Voice since I want that to be a separate phone number.

Try Visual Voicemail Plus. It even works with aosp.aokp, cm9, cm10, etc.
I ise att's visual voicemail app...not the att messages app. Do a search for it here on xda. Make sure you are provisioned for visual voicemail.
That's the link I posted.

Doh!!!!
I have used this AT&T Visual Voicemail App since the Original Note.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.att.mobile.android.vvm
Before opening it for the first time you need to call Customer Service and have them completely reset your voicemail.
Once they reset your voicemail open your AT&T VVM App and go through the steps.
It works for me every time.
Good luck
Sorry guys. When I said free, I meant completely free. No app cost, no monthly cost (don't want to pay for visual voicemail).
To those that suggested Google Voice, did you even read my original post? I want to keep my Google number separate from my regular number. Am I missing something here as to why people suggested it despite my OP?
Anyway like I was saying, Sprint provided a free voicemail app that would allow you to listen to your voicemails without calling it up. It would send the voicemail to the app whenever you got one.

Sorry again. When you guys told me about that app, I saw the 3.99 price in the Google Play description and didn't realize that was for an upgrade. I didn't even have to call AT&T to provision. Just started working.
Thanks for the help.

You don't need to use your Google Voice number to have use google voice vvm. I've been using google voice vvm like this for 2 years now like this.
Everytime I try to set gv as my default voicemail it keeps giving an error though...anyone else having this problem?

I got the same error. If you just change your voicemail number to your GV number it will work. Also go to google voice on the web and follow the instructions to deactivate and reactivate your phone.

I recently switched from Google voice to sprint visual voicemail and I cannot get sprint voicemail to work . I disabled voice from the PC and when I try to use sprints all I get is a busy signal . I called sprint and they couldn't figure it out . any help would be appreciated. I'm running TW stock odex

with changing from GV to Sprint VVm you have to go to Google voice under a PC and disable Google voice on your phone.
The enter *730 and end no answer call forwarding. That should make all work correctly.

Call Sprint support and they will deactivate Google Voice in your account for you.
Since Sprint partner with Google and does the integration on the voice mail, the only way to deactivate it's thru them. Good luck!

OMG, please at least be 100% sure you're giving the right advise. Calling Sprint is not the "only way" to deactivate GV Mail. I've done it a zillion times via the settings page on the GV website.
O.P, did you try * 38 ?
If you call into care or go into a store simply request that they remove the GVOICE soc code from your account. This will resolve the issue with no waiting. While it is true that you can do it from google.com, there is often a long wait. Doing it through sprint is instant.
