Hello
My Desire is gets stuck on HTC bootlogo screen when trying to startup.
I had USB debugging disabled so Unrevoked doenst work.
I'm now searching for the right RUU file for my phone. Because I can't boot my phone, I'm not sure about the software version... (I remembered the radio version by heart: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27)
But I found a file on my SD card, it was the first ROM ever installed on my phone. The filename is: "ns160311-2147-2.29.405.2-update-desire-stock-kitchen-unsigned-MD5-27f95c98b078b357770c47340ab9253c"
So might it be possible that my software version was 2.29.405.2 ?
So I tried the according RUU file from shipped-roms.com, but the file is corrupt. Which other RUU files would be suitable for my phone? I have an unbranded phone, so I think I need WWE release?
Also, the latest ROM I had running on my Desire was LeeDroid 2.3d
Grtz
Going by that radio, this is what you want:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
Assuming you've always had that radio since rooting
Thanks for the quick reply!
I bought my phone second hand, previous owner put a rooted stock rom on the phone for me (the one I quoted in my first post)
Then I put Leedroid 2.3d on there.
Both ROMs had Radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27, so I'll be safe right?
What does the software number mean? Is it not a problem that I'm going from 2.29.405.2 to 2.29.405.5 ?
Edit: I just read the Leedroid 2.3d thread, It seems that Leedroid 2.3d also uses 2.29.405.5, I'm just curious what this means? Is it important to have the same software version when flashing a RUU? Because I thought the purpose of doing the RUU was to install a new software, so it shouldn't matter which version I'm flashing? (sorry for my confusing English )
Thanks again.
2.29.405.5 is the latest WWE ROM so you're fine, worst case is it won't install due to CID error but at least you'd know you're on a branded handset
Thanks again,
also the RUU installers prompts me to connect the USB cable and turn on my phone. Obviously my phone can't be turned on (that's the whole problem ).
Should I put it in HBOOT Bootloader?
or should I boot it in Recovery (I have "Android system recovery <2e>", not ClockWorkMod Recovery)?
or should I just power it on to the HTC Logo where it gets stuck?
I think I have the right drivers already on my PC, I did the install/uninstall of HTC Sense.

Thanks EddyOS, it worked, I'm back on stock ROM now, thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction
(btw, to answer my last question myself: I just turned on the phone and let it boot to where it got stuck, and than I ran the RUU and the phone got recognized)
Thanks again, Grtz!

Hi, everyone.
Got a Desire 2.1 update-1 branded by Orange ES. Hboot is 0.83. Dunno if it's SLCD or OLED, does it matter anyway?
Used unrevoked to successfully root and installed a custom recovery (unrevoked standard). Right after this the phone wouldn't go past the HTC logo but I could still get recovery screen. I tried a recovery but it didn't work either. From there I tried installing RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe (which is the one I want to upgrade from to stock Froyo2.2) but I got a problem in the middle of the installation ( installer says I needed to use the proper file for my phone). Then I used the recovery screen to install a custom ROM, AuraxTSense Froyo and that worked (have it on right now) but from this ROM the RUU WWE installer doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
You'll need a gold card to use the stock RUU file - otherwise your phone doesn't pass the CID check because it's branded...

The Error code the installer gives me is "131" if that helps. On the phone it shows "CID error, cannot continue". Any ideas what does this mean? Help? Please?

now i know.. after flashing to stock RUU WWE, can i still use the unrevoke technique you taught me?
i did flash my phone using stock RUU WWE Europe (as far as i can remember) and thinking to flash WWE Asia... i cant get 3G/GPRS/MMS settings in my carrier.. im thinking if flashing WWE Asia ROM could solve the problem...
Quite possibly yes, and yes you can re-root with unrEVOked once done
thanks again EddyOS ill flash right away
Ok, so now I did a goldcard and the process seems to go a bit further but it stops. It says "Error 104, wrong hboot version - please install the correct version for your mobile phone". Any answers?
to pass the CID check, try this: htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2934

That now means the HBOOT version you have is newer than the one in the ROM you're trying to flash...What ROM are you trying to flash?
EDIT: If it's still the one in your OP then chances are you'll need the stock 2.10.405.2 RUU to get the generic ROM on the handset. You can get it by clicking on the version on my signature
Hi all, would like to know if, after installing a custom ROM, if i use a RUU will the recovery image be restored to default?
Thanks in advance!
Yes it Will
Yay! thank you! so just using the RUUs i will totally reset my desire, so HTC won't be able to tell if it's been rooted before?
Don't know whether they can't tell, whether they look if they've no need to I don't know...so long as it's on a stock ROM I don't think they'd check

What is a RUU and how can I do it, as I'm having the same problem.
I rooted to allow Titanium Backup to have root after using unrevoked but wasn’t aware that meant I also had a custom rom installed now.
I’ve been told I need to RUU as well.
RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility
It's the official way of flashing a ROM. Each phone has a software version running on it when you first get it and you should make a note of the one on yours before doing anything root-related for the very reason that if something goes wrong you can revert back to stock. Not all versions are available, e.g. there are no Orange RUUs about, but the ones that are can be found here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
If you didn't happen to make a note of yours then it's hard to say what it came with. If you've only rooted and NOT flashed a new ROM yet then if you go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the software version we might be able to help
Thanks for all the information it helps fill in some blanks.
I dont think I have put a different rom on it, I only rooted using revoked- does that mean it has a different rom now?
and my settings show
Android 2.2
Baseband version 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 [email protected] #1
Build number 2.12.110.2 CL232610 release-keys
Software number 2.12.110.2
on a side note the link you posted - what do the numbers correspond to, my Kernel or build
Right you're on a T-Mobile FroYo ROM but the issue is there isn't that versions RUU available...how long have you had your Desire?
Damm.
I got mine in April this year, why do you ask.
Can I not use RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_AT_2.12.112.1_Radio_32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2_release_143754_signed.exe?
You CAN use that but it's the Austrian one...the reason I ask is to find out the screen type, you should be on an AMOLED screen so you can flash the older 1.21.110.4 RUU if you need to - you'll need a gold card to do it, though, I believe
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
If I do flash the older 1.21.110.4 version, are there any drawbacks, or will I just be able to update through OTA updates that will then be available to me through T-mobile to get me back to normal?
Also is there a best way to do this RUU as I have seen a few guides, can you recommend any to follow.
The way I'd do it is:
1. Download that RUU
2. Have gold card in your phone and HTC Sync installed on your PC
3. Connect phone to PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the options on the phone
4. Once HTC Sync on the PC shows connected, run the RUU
5. All being correct it'll flash the ROM
6. Assuming it's worked, you should get the OTA updates again as you did before
Replying on here and androidforums is getting confusing!!!
Thanks for all the help and I hope those instructions were meant for me and not some one else
Maybe you have to downgrade your hboot to 0.75.

Yes they're for you but there's someone on androidforums with EXACTLY the same issue - you sure you're not the same person??
Nope thats not me
I followed all the procedures. But the RUU gave me an error after a few minutes saying 'Error 140 Bootloader version error'.
What does that mean and how can I fix it.
Which RUU are you trying to use? And which HBOOT are you on now?
Im trying to use the one you recommended above RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
Bootloader version I found out by holding the back key and power button to swithc on, it says HBOOT - 0.93.0001
This may sound familiar to you but..
Some background. Got my Desire repaired (replaced the motherboard because of a well-known reason..). Previously I had a root access and my SD card divided to FAT\EXT. So I got my phone back, it worked perfectly but today it suddenly turned off while it was charging. Now it won't boot up. I see the darn HTC logo all the time. Did the wipe and..restore. It seems that I don't have any update.zip on my card. I have no idea what should I do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
is your phone rooted? Were you have a custom rom or just a standard one?
Hey, no. After the repair the root was gone. Had the last OTA update installed. I just don't quite get it. Since I don't have that update.zip on the card, that means I can't really get it restored, right? So if i.e. I change my SD-card to another one. How do I get a restore image file? I'm confused..
If your phone is branded you need the goldcard to run again ruu but if it's not just download the latest software and try. maybe it'll help
try running logcat while the phone is hanging on the htc logo

Downloads from shipped-roms.com freeze after a while. So I've found a PB00IMG.zip file in some other place. Bootloader checks the file and goes back to the main screen. No errors, no update options - nothing.

Thank you guys. As I've mentioned before my Desire isn't branded. It was bought in Lithuania unlocked and sim-free. So theoretically I don't need a gold-card. But one .img I've tried to feed em returned wrong CID error. I've downloaded that RUU and tried to run it. Phone's plugged-in but the setup drops an error (170), says it can't see the phone. Tried to do it with in the bootloader mode. Same stuff. I'm kinda messed up.
HTC says they can take it for the repair so I don't need to send it back to Lithuania, but I still think it should be fixable..
Wohoo! I've managed to get the rom.zip out of the latest RUU and fix the whole problem. Thanks guys! You made my day! We can close the thread now.
After breaking my previous desire i got a new one from insurance past friday. I s-off and rooted it with revolutionary and ran the alpharev cm7 r2 partition table. All went fine and i installed the CM 7.2 RC rom and started downloading all my apps and stuff.
All seemed fine untill i shutdown my phone last night and when booting it up this morning it doesn't boot up into anything. I can only get into Hboot and fastboot. I've tried booting into recovery but it gets stuck on the boot screen again.
Now i've read the Q&A troubleshooter posted above here and i have already tried reflashing recovery, which sadly still didn't boot after the reflash.
Now i'm completely stuck on what to do and have been searching for over an hour now.
I've read i could do a RUU for my phone, but seeing as alpharev has protection against that i'm not certain that would even help. What would be the best solution here to get my phone working again. (and if possible with the current data on it , i hadn't made a backup of the full install yet)
Edit: some extra info
Hboot 6.93.1002
Bravo PVT3 S-off
radio 5.11.05.27
CM 7.2 RC
clockwork, not sure newest version for desire afaik
Did you try to remove battery?
yes, seeing as that is the only option right now to turn my phone off .
I also ran fastboot oem gencheckpt to force boot into recovery. The phone got stuck at htc splashscreen. I posted the cmd image information in this post.
when i pulled the battery to shut down the phone, the cmd gave and "error, to many links"
edit:
i ran the alpharev downgrade image to overwrite my hboot and see if i could get into recovery after reflashing that aswell. Sadly this didn't work and after flashing both it still gets stuck at the htc splash screen
i ran the downgrade hboot again and will not try to fix it with a RUU
hmm, the phone is still recognized by the pc, but i have a black screen and can't get it to display anything. did i use a bad ruu or? I"m really confused now :|
after looking in the troubleshoot again i tried to flash the bravo stock from alpha rev, but i'm getting a FAILED <remote: signature verify fail>
well seeing as i most likelly need a goldcard now and don't have another android device laying around i will have to continue this tomorrow or tonight.
if ANYBODY has any advice everything is really appriciated!
what RUU did you flash?
if it was under 2.xx that means you did slcd brick have look here
flash bravo stock from alpharev, then run (if you have a goldcard) the 2.2 WWE RUU, or your carriers RUU (make sure it's the latest one)
Check shipped-roms.com
i think i ran this RUU
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
which i got from this post, which i now see is terribly out-dated xD.
I got my phone from vodafone in Holland, and i just saw an RUU for bravo that was shipped by vodafone UK which also supports the same radio as mine. Is it a safe bet to use that one for the recovery process?
I wasn't able to run any images right now from fastboot for some reason so i will indeed need to make a goldcard. Will do so tomorrow and report back if i've had any succes.
Thanks for the advise!
OK, so i'm a bit confused by that guide i'm afraid...
I've noticed that in step 4 that i'm unable to enter recovery (no surprise seeing as i was unable before the RUU).
I can boot in to fastboot and hboot i think seeing as i get the "device connected sound" in windows. When i then enter ADB devices or fastboot oem gencheckpt it gives me some information, which can be seen in the screenshot.
What i'm now confused about is, do i still need to make a goldcard, and if so how? I tried running that goldcard creater software but it couldn't pull a CID. Should i create a goldcard by just using a phone of my friend (desire s :|)? Or is it possible to just run the right RUU straight away seeing as i can connect to hboot and fastboot, let that run and when that is finished use revolutionary to root my phone agian.
Attached is the cmd for fastboot oem gencheckpt and adb devices, although normally the fastboot oem gencheckpt finished with a "FAILED <status read failed<too many links>>
Gimme bootloader information, also what state is the phone in now, and what have you tried so far. (quick summary)
My bad just read you last posts.
Try the Vodafone RUU, it should work, don't see why it shouldn't. If that fails, make a goldcard with your friends Desire S, and flash the 2.2 WWE RUU.
If that fails then use the 2.3 RUU.
Ah great!!! I ran the vodafone ruu and atleast now i'm getting fastboot and hboot displayed again.
I'll see how far i can get on my own now. Thanks alot for all your help
Darn, aren't there yet...
I can now get into fastboot and hboot WITH it being displayed so that is already a big plus. However i'm still on a off partition format so i need to flash that back to the original partition format.
I'm S-ON right now so i can't do it through fastboot.
So i made the goldcard through my friends phone and place a PB99IMG.zip containing the alpharev bravostock on the goldcard.
When i then boot into HBOOT it gives me the reading PB99IMG.zip but doesn't give me an option to run the update afterwards. I then checked with the RUU i ran from my pc and created an PB99IMG.zip of that and let it run from HBOOT thus checking if the goldcard was functional. This worked perfectly apart from the partition table being screwed.
How can i now either install recovery from my goldcard while being S-ON or how can i succesfully run the bravo_stock image from my goldcard?
edit: I know i could use the old s-off trick from alpharev but i would prefer to use revolutionary instead seeing as it's more up to date...
k i think i know what to do.
i'll just create a bootable USB with the 1.8 hboot from alpharev on it. S-off my device and restore the partitions to stock.
Then run the RUU again so that my phone returns to stock sense and S-on.
After that i should be the basic root process all over again by running revolutionary etc right?
If you're S-ON. You DO NOT need to touch the hboot, and you can't anyway.
If you've got a goldcard just try the WWE RUU. And if that doesn't fix it then the 2.3 RUU.
That's all you need to do. NOTHING else.
The 2.3 RUU (the vodafone one i downloaded) doesn't work.
I don't think any RUU will work for my seeing as i'm still on the CM 7 r2 partition layout instead of the original sense layout (a little mistake i made when running the first faulty RUU). I'll try to run the WWE RUU first, but i don't think it'll achieve anything.
If i would now run the alpharev 1.8 hboot from a bootable USB it shouldn't put my device at risk right? :|
Edit:
i'm actually getting CID incorrect from the WWE RUU from the troubleshoot thread and from another WWE RUU i downloaded from shipped-roms.com
edit2:
alright, i tried 2 WWE RUUs, which when ran from my PC give me ERROR[131]: customer-ID error and a CID incorrect when done from my goldcard... i also tried alpharev hboot 1.8 but that didn't work either for the obvious reason that you need to boot into android and enable usb debugging and the WWE RUUs for i do not know what reason .
Damn i thought i had figured it out before going to college but aparently i was wrong >.<
i don't know if it's relevant but when i try to boot normally i get the HTC splash screen and it vibrates 7 times in a row...
So i think my goldcard might not be as golden as it should be. Should i try it with my other microSD, the one that i actually use in my phone, an 16 gb kingston?
If so can i use the same goldcard.img or should i create a new one?

Lol don't worry about it, everyone starts of a newb I remember posting some scare stories of mine a while back of when I first started messing with my phone
Hey guys, I'm having serious trouble debranding my desire and spent the last days 'n nights searching for a solution.
Three days ago I was given an HTC Desire A8181 by my sister's boyfriend from Canada. I want to use it in Germany and somehow 3G doesen't work at all(only Edge).
So I thought about flashing a European /WWE ROM to solve the problem.
As he told me the phone was unbranded I just picked the last EU RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
But while flashing I got Error 130 - Wrong RUU.
Flashing itself doesn't seem to be the problem: My sister's boyfriend found his old ROM he was using before on this phone and I was able to flash it without problems.
It is 3.14.405.1 / Android 2.3. - apparently Telus branded.
I checked with Terminal Emulator and found out that the phone is indeed Telus branded. So I created a goldcard and tried again.
Now I get Error 140 while flashing ( wrong Bootloader version )
Could it be, that the ROM I want to install is too old?
I'd appreciate any suggestion.
Information:
Bravo PVT3 Ship S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICCROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
Radio-5.17.05.23
The Phone is unrooted.
Both drivers and HTC Sync are installed on my PC.
Btw. Any ideas why 3G doesn't work?
Thanks in advance!
Hi there!
If this is the case you could just flash a stock ROM instead?
Also, this may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726 to unlock the phone fully (though it seems like that's the case already it may help) it's quite safe. I've done it on about 4 Desire's without problems over the last two years.
There is Teppic74's rooted stock 2.3 ROM which is very good and exactly like the RUU version, with the exception of being rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261
To root the phone, last I checked it was pretty simple. You simply downlopad unREVoked, run it, connect your phone when you're told and let it do it's stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
Also, a problem you MAY have is that the phone is CDMA and Europe is mostly GSM networks (I think)
@ Kryten2k35
Thanks for your reply.
Firstly, I already SIM-unlocked it with the linked tool - that was the first thing I did after holding it in my hands.
Actually I could install a custom ROM, yes and I must admit that I already did so before. I tried out Supernova and tried to flash a new Radio ( I used unrevoked to do so) . I was quite sure that I screwed st. up so I wanted to get a nice proper European RUU running on my phone. That's when I always had Error 130 ("wrong RUU") while flashing all kinds of official ROMs. At this point I was given the (obviously Telusbranded) Telus ROM that perfectly worked as the only exeption.
I had the same idea with that CDMA / GSM uncompatability but found out, that my modell Number is A8181 which is sold in Europe/ Asia. So it should work...
Thanks anyways!
Other ideas?
Well, that Teppic74 ROM is completely stock (except it's rooted) so it's exactly like the Gingerbread ROM. He tailors all his stock ROM's to be totally like stock!
Have you tried the offical HTC Desire Gingerbread RUU? Beware it will stop you from ever putting a custom ROM on again (iirc)

I had the same idea with that CDMA / GSM uncompatability but found out, that my modell Number is A8181 which is sold in Europe/ Asia. So it should work...
Thanks anyways!

Well, mate, the biggest problem with compatibility is a band version of device not rom. If you got it from Telus you have to check which frequencies it supports and see which one are used in Germany (I think you said Germany).
About RUU, you can't flash EU RUU on your device without a gold card because of CID version of your phone.
And if you want stock RUU that will work on your phone go to HTC dev site, kernel source code part, configure filter to DEVICE (Desire) and choose OTHER below it, click FIND FILES and the first one to download will be RUU upgrade android version 2.3. It's made for all CIDs and it will work with your hboot version.
Hey guys, thanks for responding.
Have you tried the offical HTC Desire Gingerbread RUU? Beware it will stop you from ever putting a custom ROM on again (iirc)

Why should it do so?
Besides I'm quite sure, that the ROM I'm currently using IS the latest official ROM - it can't be a branded one.
FIrst: Android Task Manager tells me under information - Brand: HTC_WWE
Sounds like HTC's official version.
Second: Current System Software is entitled: 3.14.405.1. ,which is HTC's latest Gingerbread (2.3.3)-update. So actually it cannot be branded.
Third: THe old owner swears that the ROM he gave me was NOT branded.
I just found out that flashing with a comon SDcard would lead to Error 130 while flashing with Goldcard leads to Error 140.
At this point I probably could S-Off and root the phone and put a custom ROM on it but I'd really, really, really like to know why I'm unable to flash those stupid RUUs.

I just checked that THIS RUU is exactly the one I have installed right now!
Thanks for this hint!
So could you tell me why only this RUU works and the other ones don't?
Thanks a lot!
I suppose it's because of the updated bootloader, which is 1.02 and won't be downgraded to 0.93, which would be the froyo version.
Btw, this will not stop you from doing s-off (which I'd recommend you to do). Only using HTC Dev unlock will stop you, so avoid using it.

Yes bootloader is the problem, so you can't flash older RUU. If you go s-off (only revolutionary can do so for you) you can flesh alpharev stock hboot which is write protected and you can try older RUU (but I don't see a reason).
So, go s-off and root now and flash a custom rom of your choice.

Thanks guys, you really helped me out!
So far I flashed CM 7.2 and it's running fine - will try to get a proper radio on it hoping the 3G issues will disappear.
Thanks!
