why is this phone so difficult to get stuff ported to it(cm7/miui) and have everything working on it....every other phone(evo/galaxy-s) have no problems with getting stuff ported to it.....THIS PHONE DOESNT GET THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES!!!
Because Samsung's software and drivers are total ****.

I don't understand this?? This phone does everything I ask of it. It is a tool I use and it works for what I want. Sure I began using custom roms because of the speed improvement over stock, but it does what I want....
Other than just saying you are running the latest version of Android, what are you looking for your phone to do that it won't do now?
Seems like I saw an alpha build of CM7 available around here somewhere...

hi! like many of you i have been waiting for a clean aosp rom and it looks like we get some first taste of the forbidden fruit there. i found the following in the vibrant forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=757000
remember it's for the vibrant and it's alpha (no radio & other things) but i guess it should work for the i9000 as well. it's just a start but finally things are happening . i will give it a try shortly
thanks to eugene, barak and possible others i don't know of!
just flashed it and played a little bit and here is my report:
* wlan works but is slower than stock
* calling works but 3g-data doesn't
* camera doesn't work
i didn't test:
* bluetooth
* gps
everything else seems to work and is quite smooth!
quadrant-score: 859, 875, 845
very nice work for an alpha version! i'm quite excited for what's to come
edit:
* after sync and reboot wlan seems to be as fast as normal...maybe my isp f***** up (again).
* after moving /data/data to /dbdata/data (dbdata is not used by this rom) this thing is FLYING!
* everything seems stable so far
i think i will keep this for now even if data is not working. awesome experience to have stock android (again)!
Very nice to see a asop on the way. Lets hope some I9000 dev have the time to adapt this for galaxy

after playing around with this i think there won't be a lot we have to change! just the kernel and the modules (i still use the JM2 kernel/zImage) and that's easy to adapt...

How did you install this asop rom?
I guess some files mods are needed? Build.prop etc?

nope. just flash the zip with clockwork over an existing firmware (in my case JM2). first boot will take a littel longer because of odex-ing.
Great to see some work on AOSP for the Galaxy S series. I've been surprised that no-one's done anything on it before, but confident that if the right people turned their minds to it they'd be able to get it running (even if all the drivers aren't sorted at first).
I don't really have a problem with TouchWiz, considering that I'm actually using LauncherPro and like the notification bar toggles etc. However, AOSP builds make me confident we'll see Gingerbread (and beyond?) because we won't have to depend on Samsung.
Wow, this is good news! I'm looking forward to having a stock Android. Although I want to try Sense more!
Im guessing once this becomes more stable, Sense is not far off?
wow, very good news.... when 3g-data will be fixed, surely i'll try this, even if i like touchwiz, i think that the sgs will be smoother without it....
hoping also in a AOSP FROYO ROM
report after ~17h use:
* gps doesn't work
* wlan works well and fast (i had 18-19mbit before with speedtest.net, same as my pc) but the driver seems to have some stability problems when it's idle for some time...
* short radio problem before, restart fixed it so radio probably is a little instable in the long run as well
quadrant scores of ~950 but linpack of only ~6.5MFLOPS? strange! everything is running very very fast and responsive (only fix aplied is: moved /data/data on /dbdata/data) and it boots faster. both definitely better than stock!
i am wondering why almost nobody seems to be interested in this. i had the feeling that more people wanted an aosp rom since we had a thread about that almost ever 2-3 days ...
I tried this asop for few hours: slower than best sgs rom's , no data connection, wifi slow, some app errors. Still not good enough for daily use but a very promising start.
Sounds really great, but I'm on JP3 right now and it seems to have less bugs than this :-/
This is only an alpha. I'll be more inclined to test when its in beta, as will many others I think. Especially as there are some troubles with core drivers.
Does this already run on a different file system (instead of RFS)? If not, will it be possible in the future to do so?

no, it does not repartition anything.
yes, if you repartition the nand and have a kernel with e.g. yaffs2 support.
should both be possible atm with some effort...
i'm really interested,although Wiz notification bar is handy (but i could manage with standard power control widget)...i'm not able to program or do other too technical stuff,but i'd be happy to check for bugs (when it'll become a little more usable,i'm on h3g and i absolutely need 3g )
yeah, they are working on it and will soon release the source on github. i use it for almost 2 days now and except the missing data it's working fine for me. really fast and sleek. i guess that we will soon have a beta version with most of the stuff working....i think it's just amazing that this rom is only about half the size of the samsung firmware even with gapps!
although i like stock android more 2 things i already miss are the notification bar and the movie player which can play so many more formats than the stock one, but thats a small price to pay.
Can't the .apk's be ripped and installed anyway? I'm looking forward to try this when data is working!
Is this 2.1 or 2.2?

it's 2.1
hm. the apps could probably be ported but it would be more complicated than installing the apk. they rely on libraries, the custom ui stuff and probably other apps like content providers etc. the only thing i REALLY want is the movie player! it's just very comfortable to just copy some movies/series onto the device before a train ride without the need to transcode

Interested, yea. As in "interesting to follow and see if it becomes functional." At the moment it's an alpha with no 3g data, wifi issues, bluetooth issues, no camera, and no GPS.
What more do you expect with it in its current state? Sheesh.
So I'm a noob here as you can tell by my post count. I recently got a AT&T Tilt. I know the phone is old, but I would like to make it more user friendly. The version of Windows Mobile on there is hard to use and slow. I feel that there maybe an android rom that would suit my needs. I just use the phone,text, and facebook. I won't really be playing games or anything like that. WIfi would be nice, but not necessary.
I have installed on a SD card Myn's Warm Donut RLS 5 on the phone. It seems to run okay, but you can't talk on the phone. Like the mic doesn't work. What would be a good version or rom for me? I know this probably gets asked a lot. Last question does android run better when its on the actual phone vs. a memory card.
Thanks.
I'm not sure about the kernel and all that nonsense. For the Valentine RLS can I use stock base files? I got Myn's Warm donut to work, but I can't get anything newer to work.
I can answer the SD card/NAND question only one way...
The phone works and responds much better when the /andboot and /data are on the NAND in the phone itself.
I have had NO issues with Thoughtlesskyle's "Fat Free Froyo", not even so much as a hiccup, and this is with the .25 kernel installed on the phone.
Sure, theres not much room left for apps, but if you're only using it for text, phone and internet, that shouldn't be an issue.
BTW, the wireless works fine as long as you install the update for it.
Camera is a bit fidgity but usable, and you will need to back up the /data from your phone once evrything is working right. I back mine up weekly, but I have never had to do a restore.
Do some more research, make your own decisions, but most of all have fun with it.
I guess you have to use A Tools any time you want to change the droid os on the phone?

Atools is only for those who can understand what to do
You only need to know correct Device, keyboard type and Panel Type in order to make android work. E.g a Froyo/Eclair kernel cannot work on Donut.
Also, mic/camera related issues are due to older radio version. Get a radio version 1.65.x or higher, and you need HARD SPL v3.29 or higher to do flashing job. I will never recommend a ForceUSB HardSPL
O.k so here is the thing guys. I'm no noob but I'm no master either. Ok so I have a Evo 4G. It's been hacked since the first day that I got it (unrevoked). I'm currently running CM 7 RC 2 I believe and It's not that bad. The thing is that I always get these kind of weird bugs. I know I should be posting this in the CM7 forum but it wont let me because i'm fairly new to the site. Anyway I have always used CM and it's always been super buggy; even with the RC's. So my question to all of you is, am I doing something wrong when i install? I mean I used rom manager to install the rom, I do a backup and everything. Am I nandroiding wrong or something. For ex. my main android keyboard always freezes or just doesn't show up or I just get the most random force closes and other things like that. Help please because if I have to I will dump this CM, I'm getting kind of tired of it, but I just want to make sure it's not me that has the problem. Thanks in advance.
First of all, flash the latest nightly or the latest stable release, with a clean install and gapps, and that could fix things right there. Just backup your apps in titanium.
And make sure you're wiping properly. Instead of flashing the newer version as an update, do a full wipe. The last time I had issues like that with a rom, I went back and wiped everything multiple times and flashed a format all zip. Everything ran flawlessly after that.
I'd ditch Rom Manager too, and learn to flash manually. I don't fully trust Rom Manager to do what I would do, so I've never used it.
My Evo + xda Premium App = This post.
Both of the above posts are correct. Also add to them, CM7 is NOT meant for the Evo, meaning there is always bugs in it. The CM team does a great job, but there is no way to get rid of all bugs when porting a rom to many different phones. This is why there is a nightly release every night, fixing little things in each release.

Pretty sure Toast and Cyanogen would disagree.
What I meant was, it wasn't made for the evo. It's a port that has been coded to work, meaning there will be bugs.

By that logic, it's not made for any device and won't work smoothly anywhere. It's AOSP, with a bunch of improvements. AOSP starts out as device independent and has to be tailored (or "ported") to any of the devices it runs on. I'm not saying there aren't bugs, but it's not that it "isn't made for it." It's just not perfected yet. It's pretty darn close though.

it's technically only 'meant' for nexus s, yet the team supports it on like 30 phones. the evo is fully functional on it, with 4g and hdmi and everything. i'd say it's pretty smoothly fit.
btw you are on pre-7.0. cm7 is now on stable version 7.0.3, with nightlys for 7.1 that only have a small mms bug (can't recieve them).
Hi everyone,
For last few months I've been on a journey through many roms on my gf's Virgin cdma one V. She wasn't happy with the performance of stock rom as it was really very slow at times, sometimes taking up to 8 seconds for a response to a keypress.
Anyway, I (in my foolish way) said "don't worry babe, there's bound to be a lot of roms out there that will speed your phone up nicely". Well, there are, but so far each one has some sort of issue that causes my gf to complain to me lol. As i stated the phone is on the latest hboot, 1.57 i think it is, so I know there are bound to be issues because of that.
But can anyone suggest a rom or roms that will work reasonably smoothly and are fully functional? Her favorite thing to complain about is that some roms work perfectly, but the camera is useless or it will not record video. I installed one rom that seemed perfect, only to find the camera crashed if there was a face detected in the image lol. Have tried roms with 3rd party camera programs, but none seem to work reliably.
I'm not asking for the "best rom", just want one that I can install on her phone and with a straight face say "everything should work now, camera and video recording too"
Thanks in anticipation,
Gonna post here because I'm wanting suggestions as well. Recently installed Rythmic ROM and it's killing my battery

I've moved back to Lloirs excellent Slim Bean, smoooooooth as silk
even more unobtainable I'm afraid. I would advice bumping your hboot down and going with sphongle
i think he's askin for a cdma rom :silly::cyclops:
Pardon me if I am missing something.
Are there no CM12 builds for this device or jflte?
I can't seem to find any here.
I have found them for the jfltexx but people seem to have problems with in.
Anyone have any recomendations?
I am looking for CM because it looks like with this build Puzzles and Dragons work with this build and root.
Any other version I have tested with so far does not work with root sadly.
Just force closes as soon as it starts up.
Cm website
You don't see much here because it's got the same problems as the other builds, if you just want to play a game (s) just flash what ever you come across with jfltexx.
If you need a phone as a daily driver try a kitkat build rom.
Pp.
Yeah I goofed.
Didn't know that it got un unified for the new version
Got the Tmo one installed and working good.
Other then it seems to get really really warm sometimes while using it.
Much warmer than it did before
Try a reboot, it will sometimes clear the overheating problem.
Depending on what you flashed it could have some processor overclocking or you could also have an app that's misbehaving.
