Anyone figured out how to re-map the keyboard buttons?

I need to change my Start button to open another start menu app that I have. And how stupid is it that the IE button only opens up one web page instead of just the app? :x

Any software for making keyboard shortcuts to other programs?

i want easy access to programs by pressing some key combination.
for example Sym and E for excell...

Please start using the search imagine if everyone just posted for everything they wanted......

Predictive text doesn't work on all apps using keyboard

for me anyway it doesn't work (green letter suggestions) on google search widget, on internet, or on market search. Does work on email, 3Banana app and messaging.
Is that how others find it?

That seems to be the default behaviour of the stock keyboard. Try searching and installing the HTC_ime keyboard as it has more configurable options including the one you want!

You have option to enable that predictive text on search input, etc.
It is the same as the stock keyboard, but much more features

I have installed it, but can't get it to "select" eg "long press on any text input field" as the install instructions thread says to do.
As in hold my finger on the input box? Does nothing.
As in hold a key? That just toggles it.

[Q] Dedicated Voice Search Button or "App"

In previous versions of Android I used Google Voice Actions within numerous other apps. I.E. Using a shortcut to start accepting speech actions immediately in Widgetlocker. It seems that in ICS on the Galaxy Nexus there is no dedicated "app" to immediately launch voice action input. There is only the Google Search app which defaults to entering text. I have looked in the Market and couldn't find a 3rd party solution.
Anybody experiencing a similar scenario or have an idea of a workaround?

Yes, I put in a request for this in the Themes and Apps section.
Soft key support with short press = search and long press = voice search would be ideal.

That can be possible only if the manufacturer allows that button to be remappable through a software update

1)Install "Assist Mapper" attached in this post below

2) Open the app
3) tap on the first option "default digital assistant app"
4) you will see, 3 options will be available
None

by default "google" is already selected
But we need to change that to assist mapper, so tap on "Assist Mapper"
5) A disclaimer will pop up, reminding about privacy
tap "ok"
6)NOW, an important step
go back by tapping the back arrow on the top left side
again tap on the back arrow
then you will be directed to a page
7)This is the list of apps installed on your device
Search the app of your preference and select
NOTE: the search bar results will be confusing
But you need to select the app which is titled in BOLD Letters
For example: Search "camera"
you will find multiple camera apps with different directories
Select the one which is in BOLD letters, as in the "IMAGE 1"
you are done
NOTE: this will not remap your dedicated google assistant button
_To return back to google assistant
_just press the dedicated assistant button
_you will be asked to set the assistant button to google assistant instead of the assistant mapper selected before

Hi, do you know how to do this after android 12 ? Seems that this button is physically wired to open only google assist, no other apps work, even after being selected as the default assistant apps
