I have a query around certificates. Coming from an iPhone, certificate management was really easy. I have no idea how to manage certs in Android. I've copied them to my SDCard, installed them. How do I delete them? In iOS it was really straight forward but I'm buggered if I can figure out where to do this. Am running just the standard HTC standard ROM.
I'm assuming not possible? Done a fair bit of searching now...seems like a lot of people asking but not many people know how..

Hello there to all the souls of the xda forums.
im new to wp7. never used one before like 3 days ago. i like it, great device my surround is. but im not here to tell you about how good it is. we all know its good.
im here to ask if theres any real hacking going on with this thing yet. im looking for at least some kind of command line.
from there i could use tools such as aircrack, nmap, metasploit, SET, etc.
ive had an iphone for about 3 years, booting iOS and Android. i am used to hacking from that, but at the same time i know there a bigger user base for those devices, so theres more devs for it. i just wanted to know if anyone has already started on such a project before i dedicate alot of my time to developing this for you all.
BTW i am not interested in pirating apps, cracking apps
With enough effort, command-line interface *might* be possible - the OS technically supports such things - but the underlying core is Windows CE. Even less so than NT, CE really isn't meant for a CLI; apps are written with the intent of being run on a graphical interface. Also, having no POSIX compatibility and only partial Win32 compatibility, a lot of apps that you're used to from the desktop (or from POSIX-based phone OSs like iOS and Android) aren't going to be available.
That said, if you want to get started in the WP7 hacking space, there's certainly plenty to do. One project that I have on the back burner until I get some more urgent stuff out of the way is a SSH client. There are a number of things that are required here. First of all, we have homebrew Socket support, but the official SDK lacks it so you'd need to use a native Homebrew DLL. Second, there's no official command line interface, so you'd need to write one. The second point is all sorts of fun, since what you're really writing is a terminal emulator.
Other interesting projects include getting a unified cross-platform approach to writing to the filesystem, or even reading from all of it (instead of the relatively small portions currently accessible) or figuring out how to make third-party apps run in the background.
thanks man. I think I'll work on getting a full file browser for the phone. That should happen , i think, before anything else. As far as a terminal emu, it sounds like its going to be more of a chalange for me. Again, I'm used to more Linux and UNIX systems than I am windows. I had to reinstall windows 7 onto a partition just so I could sync the phone with the Zune software Microsoft insisted I use.
So is anyone currently working on the file browser? Has there been any progress with it? If so, who should I contact so I can help?

TouchXplorer. Do a bit of searching. A lot of homebrew has already been in the works.

Thanks. Just found that page
Hello experts on this forum
I`m a total newbie into this technology. I got myself a nice HTC desire HD. After a while, I got aggravated, feeling monitored by Mr. Orwell, whith this Android system. To my great surprise, I believe that I managed to route the phone, and install a Linux firewall. However, I still feel a little paranoid.
I know that people like me, stumbling around on a forum like this, might be a pain in the a. because we don`t "RFTM": However I tried, but there`s so many words that I don`t understand. I`m not a computer expert, and I`m not familiar with DOS programming. However, If I get my hands on a clear list, I know I can do it.
My question is this: I Use a modern iMac, with a card reader. I`ve two separate micro sd cards. Do anyone of you know about a nice, and simple explanation that idiots like me would understand, in order to completely wipe out this Google OS, and install a "clean" Ubuntu? I`m willing to make a real effort to learn, and I have patience. I love my HDHD because of the big nice screen, but I like to keep my personal life only for myself. I can`t stand that Mr. Orwell snap up all my datapackets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, from you experts. I fear that this might be hard with a Mac, but I do have access to full DOS- utility on my computer. (iMac with i7 processor.
Also, am I pretty safe, with Ubunto on my machine?
Thank you so much in advance.
You do realise that running ubuntu on a device that only has a touchscreen is kinda fail...
Also, i doubt Mr. Orwell - whoever he is ( The only guy i can find on google is some author) would even be able to monitor anything. Android is completely Open source, so it would be kinda suspicious to insert code that sends "Packets" somewhere.
Even if someone is somehow monitoring you through the Android OS, i doubt that they would bother monitoring a single person, out of the tens or hundreds of millions of other android users.
Regardless, following this guide, and doing a full wipe (Download superwipe from android revolution, flash it in CWM) should completely remove android. (And install ubuntu)

Hi, and thank you very much for answering my question. Mr. Orwell wrote about 1984, if I`m not wrong. Today, my gut feeling tells me, that all the apps onboard my HTC sends away datapackets that I would like to stop. After installing this Linux firewall, I was amazed to see how many apps that sent away packets with headers, containing mye personalia. Even my camera stopped working properly, when activating the linux firewall.
Nix ok for me. To bad, because I found the Android system very nice and intuitive to use. My great challenge, is that I`m not a nerd. I whish a was, in a technical perspective. Many thanks for your link to the guide. As long as I can type text messages, check the web/mail, and maybe the weather forecast, I`m happy.
What I really fear, is that I will manage to mess up this machine of mine. Well, it`s just a thing, and I `ll survive, if I brake it. My economy isn`t the greatest, but heck, it`s worth a try.
Best regards!
You could always try flashing a clean install of CM7. It doesnt have any HTC Apps, just google.
Also, the packets are either log data, or sync data for HTCSense.com contact/etc backup. You can disable it by flashing ROM Cleaner and only removing the HTC Hub related and HTC "Spyware". This is only required if you want to stay on sense.
Google backup can be disabled by removing your google account, or going Settings>Privacy and untick "Back up my settings" (I think its disabled by default on CM/Miui roms)
Hello everybody,
So these days I've been interested in theming MotoBlur since I had PS skills and wanted to put them to use since being 17 and with so much free time I said it might not be THAT hard.
However, **** happened.
Finding out those pesky MotoBlur apps wasn't that hard - found it rather easily after checking up a system backup. But finding out the MotoBlur apps wasn't the problem - the problem were the apps.
This is how a simple .apk file (MotoBlur Phone app) folder looks like:
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/secretalex125/untitled.jpg
See that little thing there? Yeah, you're seeing right - that is the Motorola FlipFlop (or how it's named) phone. But God, why?
Don't ask me; ask Motorola. This may be the reason why they ended up making a striped version of their newer phones' skin/OS updates' skin.
Not to mention these images come up with .xml files. Now, as a dumb idiot with relatively limited text editing (.xml / .ini / whatever coding files) knowledge, but still a basic one enough to know not to screw up with the position of some text, I know that checking up ALL these files would be a damn hard task. Not to mention editing them properly. However, I'm in for the images. And I'm somehow sure that some of these files are pretty much useless. So they should be deleted. But then, when you have 2 apps called "BlurContacts" and "BlurPhone" and notice both of them feature pretty much the same images in some folders, you know you're screwed.
But this is only the foreground idea. The background, the immense sea of files is what is annoying. How could someone be able to create an entirely new skin? All that comes in my mind is that he must be a masochist.
So questions pop up:
1. Did anyone else try to skin ALL the files?
2. Did anyone try to remove files?
3. I know that out there is only one more GB skin. One more. But is it any better?
4. Are there replacements? How easy is to replace these files? Would simply removing these Motoblur apps make my life easier and revert me to classic Gingerbread?
4. I think there's more on my mind, but it doesn't come up right now.
All in all, I don't like what I'm seeing.
I was able to theme almost all motoblur apps when I was on ms2ginger rom, so it was the gb version of defy. I didn't remove any of the files, but yeah it takes some time to understand where goes what.

In summary I am not a developer just an android enthusiast with a very good understanding of the rooting/modding side of the community on multiple devices. I am trying to side load some apk's from my rooted Sony nsz-gs7 to the firetv in hope to get the IP Bluetooth remote (NSG-MR5U) to work with it but that's aside the point as there is already a thread on that.
When trying to install any of the apk's from that device I get "INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY" and I was hopeful that someone with a bit more knowledge here could help me deduce how I can determine what shared libraries its missing. Maybe someone can shed some light on something I can look into to try and move forward. I might just be trying to make the impossible happen.
The other part of this post is I am curious seeing as I do have root access to the NSZ-GS7 and its IMO one of the few decent google tv devices out there with root is there anything on there that could be beneficial for future fireTV developers, such as information related to the search subsystem, default launcher, etc. It would be neat to see if maybe some of the NSZ-GS7's functionality could be ported over easily. Maybe not but I wanted to extend the offer since I may be one of the few that have it. Thanks for everything you guys are doing, things are shaping up nicely on our fireTV's!

I think it generically means you are missing part of the Google api or an associated apk. Have you added anything yet like google services framework?
Also, do NSZ-GS7 even run at least jellybean? if not that's one of your main issues. Most GTV apps prior to jellybean are totally different than normal android.
I finally figured out the deal with the missing libraries and now just have to troubleshoot a new issue with "INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT" which I'll chase down. Looks like the nsz-gs7 runs honeycomb 3.2 so not sure what that will mean in the long run but I'll keep fooling around with it while I still care. Thanks for the info so far.
Hello all!
I've been a creeper around here since 2010 (obviously not on the G4 forum), and I have just now decided to register. I got into rooting and ROM'ing with my Droid X, and now I'm a "phone enthusiast" (I suppose that's what you can call someone who irresponsibly spends money on different phones).
So I'm a third year Computer Security student at my University and I know languages like Java and C. Java, being the language that Android is based on, and C, being the basis for Linux systems, I would imagine to be very beneficial to me in Android development. Basically, what I'm trying to find is a good resource to tell me how all of the system image files work. I've had to reflash firmware plenty of times and know of the system files like system.img, boot.img, etc. and I want to know how they all work and work together.
My end goal is to be able to unlock the bootloader (which I imagine is decrypting the file and editing something within it) for the community. But, I can't even try to do that without knowing how all of this stuff works together and what exactly it means in the technical sense to unlock the bootloader.
Are there people on this forum who know or a resource to learn about this stuff, or a user who is experienced enough to explain to me how this all would work?
PS. I know there are some really smart people working on unlocking it, and I'm certainly not trying to jump in and act like I can do it. I'm just purely curious in trying to do this.
Thanks in advance!
