Hi gang, i have a few questions regarding factory reset
(settings --> about --> reset)
If i reset after updating NoDo, would i still be in NoDo after the reset?
If i unlocked my phone (with NoDo update), would i still be unlocked after reset?
What exactly does reset do to the OS besides removing media, apps, settings?
Thank you all very much for responding!
It formats the phone and it returns into its original settings. In other words, it starts all over again. You still will have the NoDo update. Now a far as unlocking, you might not able to unlock unless you restore the pre-nodo version saved on the Zune software. I formatted my hard drive s my backup is gone. I'm stuck with the NoDo now with a locked phone. Can't do anything lol.

Freddy is right. NoDo update, together with base-settings is stored in a part of the firmware. User settings and files are in another partition of the phone. During the update the OS partition is backed up and the user partition is backed up. The OS partition is updated and the user partition is left as it is. If you hard-reset, the user-partition, including the unlock-settings is wiped. Leaving you with NoDo and no unlock.
so now the only solution is to wait for a NoDo unlock then...if u want to reset and still be unlocked
wonder how long it will take~~
You always have a workaround. If you need to do a factory reset with NoDo already on then do it. Afterwards flash a 7004 ROM for your device, unlock, reupdate to NoDo It's a bit more work but worth at the end of the day...

That topic may help.
Go to Settings - Security - Factory data reset
It saids that it erases all data on the phone. And if you have rooted your phone you should probably unroot it first.
Do I need to unroot first before go to factory data reset?

actually it does not matter what you do first.
But i would suggest to unroot first, because after factory reset the initial setup will start and you will be prompted to provide all different kind of stuff.
If you unroot first and factory reset its in first sale status and the new user will get the initial setup when he turns on the phone for the first time.
You don't have to unroot if you don't want to. Factory reset just clears the /data partition, to root you have made changes to the /system partition. So if you want to unroot to you have to do it separately (there are some tutorials in this forum)
I bought a used DINC2 that already had 2.3.3 loaded so naturally I am a bit bummed about that.
I noticed that if I do a factory reset from the bootloader menu it always pops up a screen saying it's installing a VZW update. This leads me to believe that the factory reset brings me back to froyo but it immediately updates to gingerbread before I can stop it. If this is the case that means the update is stored somewhere and there's a chance (crossing fingers) that I may be able to delete or at least screw up the signature and fully boot into froyo. I've read that in the past OTAs were stored on the cache partition so out of desperation I tried fastboot erase cache and it said it worked! However it still did the same update after a factory reset. Any ideas?
There was a small update released after GB was released. Chances are it's that update being applied.
Damn I knew that was too good to be true.
Hey,
I have the official Mango update and SPL-4.5.2250.0 (129185) MNG
I want to revert to NoDo so I can install a custom ROM, how can I downgrade without having a restore in Zune (the restore is damaged).
I got an error 'The Storage Card Is Damaged' and it hard reset itself, so now Zune sees it as a new phone, rendering my backup useless.
Sorry.. Im answering in the wrong forum (have to get used to xda app :[ )

As far as I know, the only way back to NoDo, if you do not have a working backup is to flash a OEM rom.
With out knowing your carrier or phone model, there is not much anyone can do to help. I suggest that you look up the threads to your model phone and check the upgrade thread.
You might find a rom but, to roll back and keep your data, that's a different story.
The backup is not useless just because the phone got hard-reset. People restore backups after hard-reset all the time.
However, you can't restore a backup if the storage of the phone has changed. That means adding, removing, or replacing a microSD card since the backup was made. To restore that backup, put the phone back in its old state (storage-wise), then hard reset it (to initialize the card), then connect to Zune and try to restore.
So still no lollipop on my nexus 7 2013 wifi, its not rooted, i did a factory reset to start fresh, i did a backup before that. when it finished factory reset backup restored all and it works ok and again still no lollipop but a new problem started to show. Before i did a factory reset my system update automatically checked for updates 2-3 times a day, but now it doesnt do that at all i can check it manually but it doesnt check it automatically. whats the problem? can i fix it somehow? thanks to all who can help
p.s. i can see that my apps wont automatically update like before even tho my play store is set to update automatically
Why not just flash the factory image at this point? I would never wait for the OTA to prompt me. As soon as the factory image was on the Google website, I would be flashing it.

Yes that is a good idea if you know what you are doing, and i'm afraid that i'll mess something so i'll wait for OTA but can you help me with this update problem for now?
Hi,
I want to unlock the bootloader on my HTC 10. Yeah, I am going to root, but this is a bootloader question. I need to know what gets erased when one unlocks the bootloader. In particular:
1. Does the ROM get erased?
2. Do the apps get erased?
3. Does the backup of the stock ROM (needed for factor reset) get erased.
I understand that app data gets erased. If the ROM gets erased, the phone is going to be inoperable until I install another ROM. Eventually, I want to root, but I would like to have the option of continuing to run the stock Nougat.
Thanks,
Ndmand
The DATA partition gets erased... Basically it performs a factory reset on the phone as a security measure to make sure someone else isn't unlocking the device to install malware so it does a quick factory reset so any potential customer information is erased.
I believe an app is removed so OTA fails when they do a system check and that app comes up missing. That last part might be an old method since now they might just do a hash check.
1. No
2. If you got them from the Playstore, Yes
3.Phones don't have a stock backup. Unless you make it, but that required you to be unlocked in the first place.
Thanks Tachi,
This helps a lot and gives me a comfort level with unlocking. I was afraid I would lose the ROM and be forced to install a custom ROM, which I might do later anyway.
Thank You,
Ndmand
Technically, nothing gets erased when you unlock the bootloader; however, unlocking the bootloader changes the decryption key used to decrypt the /data partition. As a result, you have to factory reset the phone as /data becomes unreadable. The ROM itself is in the /system partition, which is not encrypted and remains readable.

Thanks, that explains it even more. I guess that I should stop worrying now. :good:
