When will the official 2.3 Gingerbread update be provided for HTC desire..it has bee released for Nexus one bt not for Desire yet! Any Ideas??, Thnak you.
According to UK carrier three its around late April early may that they plan to actually release 2.3 on desire. That is for 'three' branded handsets I hope unbranded ones get released earlier than that
Check out Android central they have an article
Hope it comes with new sense too

I tried posting link but I'm a new user and can't sorry. Check out Android central its there apparently the news released on Twitter

Be careful what you believe, if you read their timeline then you'll see that Three UK gave the exact same answer on Twitter for questions regarding HTC Desire *and* HTC Desire HD (when asked for a 2.3 date by different users with different phones). Giving the same answer may have been a mistake.
Reports from MWC Barcelona 2011 said the newer HD and Z will be updated first, followed by the original Desire a while later (early summer). Personally, I still believe this schedule to be more accurate and more realistic.
There is 1 definitive answer... q2.

perhaps in june 2011
reports say telus will recieve there ota late april early may but thats what they said about froyo and it was delayed quite abit
Considering with Desire-S still not available in any market (it will be outdated already on its day one but this is another issue) assume our Desires will not get it before 2 months after its release = Q3/2011 (shame HTC) presumably my next device will be a SGS.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Does DesireHD already got Gingerbread? Because we wont get Gingerbread before DHD for sure.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
DesireHD doesn't have gingerbread yet.
I hope the updates all come out soon.
Does anyone know if the new sense will be coming to the original desire with update?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I think yes.
And we will have to wait :-( they should translate gingerbread for Russia. So I hope we will get it in q4 2011. But of course you can use unofficial mods like I do;-)

Don't get a age you will regret it massively the desire is a much better device. I tried the sgs I have used it for about a week and it's now on eBay. The lag when using the phone gets worse and is a pain to open apps as they takes ages because of rfs. The build quality is also really bad compared to the desire. Only good point about it is the screen.

we had a similar thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730416&page=15
also I'm more inclined to think that the DHD and DZ will get the GB update first as already mentioned - then the Desire Original a little later - best case is that it comes at the same time -
also I imagine that the GB update will include a newer sense version as it makes little sense to have a DS, DHD, DZ on a newer sense than the DO - else it's two platforms (DS/DHD/DZ on new and DO on old) to keep updated/fixed rather than just one (across four devices)

anyone know when 3UK might be releasing the 2.2 update as i have looked everywere and found nothing solid about a release date??
I read on another forum that rollout will be complete within two weeks, possibly hitting OTA servers from Monday. It sounds likely to be accurate, 3 cannot possibly drag it out any longer.

Now that USCC and HTC have released froyo for the Desire, when will Gingerbread be released? Or can it on the Desire? Would it be a hardware incompatibility? Anyone have any inside info? Since it took sooooo long to release froyo, can we expect Gingerbread to be a Christmas present? Thanks all.
CanyonLand23
There isn't any hardware requirements for android gingerbread as far as I know. And the desire is capable of gingerbread.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply. Now, it will be interesting to see how long it will be before the USCC Desite gets Gingerbread.

That's for unbranded handsets, you then have to wait on the operator versions if your phone is on branded firmware - which could be months
Once a new firmware is available, it will be quickly "adapted" to branded handsets, always have been.
So why has it taken til 2 weeks ago for USCC customer to get FroYo when it was released last August?
I don't expect Gingerbread until at least Q2. The track record so far is sub-par at best and the rate USCC is going with updates, It'll be christmas before we see anything.

Just saw this on ZDNet for our Desires. No Gingerbread...

Yup, it was on wired. HTC has officially said no GB for the Desire because there is not enough memory to place nice with sense.
Your only chance is a customer ROM.
when the official Gingerbread update for htc desire?
When it's ready.

For HTC Desire Z is before end of June:

The Desire Z is similar to the normal Desire, so i think this statement can also used for it.

It's probably going to be somewhere before the end of june...
This dutch article states that a reliable insider said that they have taken out some of the downloadable apps, like facebook and twitter to make the new OTA update fit on the system partition and that they'll begin rolling out in a week or so.
End of June... so probably end of August
Next week... Friday 12.33.

You won't be able to update a custom rom with the official over the air update but you should be able to unroot using an official RUU. No official 2.3 RUU is out yet and its unconfirmed as to when 2.3 will be released for the Desire.
i heard you can update in july or august
You have a lot of Gingerbread lying around. You shouldn't worry about a lame update (HTC reported that they have to trim it in order to fit the memory). It will never be able to support a decent Sense and the changes will not be as spectacular as those made in some of the custom ROMs. Plus you will have memory shortages and all the headaches associated with non-data2sd ROMs.
I'm hearing of some unbranded UK Desires receiving an OTA update to Gingerbread, has anyone else seen this? Nothing on mine yet, and since it's unbranded I imagine it's not a staggered rollout.
Anyone know what's going on, or are my sources false?
I've not heard anything to maybe a fail. I guess if you find HTC's RUU then it will be rolling out soon. About now is when it's rolling out so maybe so.
Well after some checking I can confirm that a desire, possibly on TMob got a system update a couple days ago, but can't confirm whether it was 2.3 or just a pre update of some sort, also not sure if the desire is branded or not.
unfortunately the phone is a work phone that my friend doesn't have currently so can't get any more details at this moment.
Nothing here. Unbranded handset :-(

HTC Official Update
I received the following email today from HTC Customer Care in response to a question as to when they will fix the widely reported Google leak (potential security flaw in Android).
In regards to your last response, in order to to get the security update when it is being issued, you have to have a base of the 2.3 Gingerbread update on your handset, in which case will be released this summer for devices such as HTC Desire.
Currently we do not have a specific date as to when the 2.3 will be released for other handsets as at this time the update is only being issued to HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S.
summer? geeez... I thought it was going to be anytime soon this month... Bit fed up of waiting...

Check my sig. I can't say I noticed something actually does not work, which I can say for some other roms people swore are rock stable, but it drains battery and there is obvious lag especially with alternative launchers and animations. That said, I can cope with some lag, but I can't cope with memory leaks, bootloops, ads etc.
So you can't just yet say it is as it is meant to be, but it comes to that this actually works. Not extra smooth, but it does.

Huh?
It will be great if Desire receives ICS but I doubt because of marketing reasons. The guys from HTC want to sell their new phones to old customers as well as new ones so the old Desire won't get an ICS update, as it didn't get an Gingerbread one (with new Sense).
Desire isn't a recent device anymore
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Yeah, but I think there's a bit of good will at stake too. Many people are on contract with months left and aren't willing to shell fora new device just yet.
If HTC nurture the customers that have had a good experience with the desire (I'm one of them) perhaps they won't be lured off to samsung, motorolla, lg, huwai, nokia etc come end of contract.
I reckon if they could do it with sense they would.

Then you either spit moar dough when you buy it to get shorter contract, or you take a two year, and then don't whine every second about it. I won't even mention shelling two year contract in early 2011. and similar silly moves.
I think some of you are forgetting the Gingerbread update saga.
After several announcements and retractions from HTC only an unsupported developer build was released.
ICS will only ever be a custom build from the dev community.
Fingers crossed for CM9, hardware permitting

Desire was never a recent device in the first place.
If HTC could release ICS loaded with their sense experience, while leaving room in the rom for carrier apps they would. Perhaps it's naive of me, but there you have it.
Problem isn't the age, or the cpu, or even wanting to force you into a newer phone. It's the limited memory with which to drive a relatively high pixel count on the screen and a version of software that probably wasn't even dreamt of when the desire was getting her specs.
The development community will possibly be able to shoehorn ICS on, without sense, but htc is saying they don't have time to bother with that level of customisation for an older device. If it were simple they'd do it.

HTC's making money out of selling phones. The End.
Not from supporting new shinny flagship os's for "Mezozoic" phones.
Look at Apple, they support almost all new os's for deprecated phones but with small feature set and performance penalty.
Is that what you want?
