Problem with connecting to iPhone's "personal hotspot" - Windows Phone 7 General

My omnia 7 could connect to my brother's iPhone personal hotspot without a problem, but after the NoDo update i can't connect anymore! I wrote to Microsoft Answers but they told me to delete the network and try connecting again but that obviously didn't work. So i ask do you have the same error or you don't and what can i do :S
The error is: connection unsuccessful. You phone couldn't reach the Wi-Fi network ... You know the rest

I have exactly the same problem, except I'm using a Samsung Focus. It won't connect to my iPhone personal hotspot. I get the same error message. Of course it doesn't give you any more detail than that. I've not been able to find any fixes either.

I have NoDo installed on an LG Quantum, and a buddy at work has the iPhone 4, and I connected just fine last week when we were comparing phones.

[Q] WP7 Wifi Not Detecting WM6 Shared/Tethered Wifi

Has anyone else tried to connect via WiFi to another phone over WiFi shared internet successfully?
I got my HTC HD7 WP7 today for development, so no plan. I was upset to find out the inability to connect to the hidden WiFi at my work is a known/"by design" issue; however, I quickly went to my fallback plan of using my HTC TP2's (Touch Pro 2) WiFi Internet Sharing/Tethering (CM Internet Sharing). However, this did not detect either! This is not a hidden network, and uses WEP protection. The WP7 phone did successfully find and connect to other networks, so it's not the phone.
Has anyone else tried this or can anyone else confirm this? This phone would be a whole lot more useful to me if I could have a connection on-the-go, as I planned!
Thank you!
I am posting without a lot of technical expertise/knowledge, however if WP7 is at all similar to the Operating System that the Zune HD has (I believe it is quite alike), and the TP2 is at all similar to the HTC HD2, then I guess I might have an answer.
The HTC HD2 creates a Wifi Network, which the Zune HD cannot see. The reason is the network is created as a "computer to computer" network on Windows Mobile 6, and for some reason the Zune HD cannot see Computer to Computer networks. You have a way of knowing wether your TP2 is doing the same as my HD2, by turning on the wireless connection sharing on the TP2, and then using your laptop or notebook PC, and looking at the available wireless networks and their properties. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, Computer to Computer networks have an icon right next to them showing two small computer monitors.
Let me know what you find.
Great point! You are correct, and that explains it and makes sense. I guess if WP7 doesn't even support "hidden" networks yet, there's very slim hope for computer-to-computer networks in the near future. Disappointing.

Tethering network identification buggy on Windows 7

Hi,
each time I use tethering on my Windows 7 PC it recognizes the connection as new (happens with USB and WiFi). I plug in the phone (or enable WiFi tethering) and Windows asks if this is a private connection and calls it network (or AndroidAP on WiFi). I plug it off and on again - the same happens again, Windows calls it network 2 (or AndroidAP 2). Next time network 3 etc. And with every number increase it keeps asking me, if this is a private or public connection, which is kinda annoying. My device is a GSM GNex running Stock 4.0.4. This happened with my SGS too. Any suggestions?
Lol same exact thing happens to me, it bothers me a little but is not like it hurts or affects the performance so I havent look into try to fix it

Sounds like the issue is on your PC end. Try naming your Hotspot something unique and putting PW security on it.
thx, i am using a custom name and wpa2 (no effect) but i used "androidap" in the post so that users find this thread when they want to google the issue.
Edit: I am experiencing the same behavior on my Windows 7 netbook. I tried Ubuntu on my PC - no bug here (WiFi and USB).
That is a Windows 7 fail.
This is a Win 7 issue I believe because it happens when USB tethering all 3 of my Android powered phones. I had over 150 network connections in Windows, until I found the "Merge or Delete Networks" option and was able to delete them.
Now I don't USB tether anymore. I have a datastick, and I also have a Linksys WRT54G with DDWRT flashed on it. Normally I use the datastick, but whenever I do need to tether I just fire up the wifi hotspot on my phone, the router connects, and it provides my lan with internet access.
Semi-Solution
I was having the same thing. It's just annoying, but you can remove the extra networks.
Right click on the network icon in your system tray, select "Open Network and Sharing center", click on the icon of your network, and on the resulting window there is an option to merge or delete networks (bottom left).
From here you can at least remove a load of networks!

[Q] Problems tethering with Galaxy Nexus portable hotspot in android 4.2

I am having a problem tethering my laptop and my desktop computer to my Galaxy Nexus ever since I installed the 4.2 update. My Nexus 7 tablet does not seem to have any issues connecting.
My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T60-2007 which has an Atheros 42T0825 wifi chip. It used to connect to the Android 4.1 Galaxy Nexus hotspot without any problems under Win XP. Immediately following upgrading the Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.2 the laptop had problems. The laptop would connect to the tethering wifi hotspot, but would not be able to browse the internet (or in a few rare circumstances, would browse extremely slowly with frequent errors that would prevent web pages from loading).
I tried a factory reset on the Galaxy Nexus (which still left the phone at android 4.2), and there was no change in behavior.
I tried removing the wifi password and running the hotspot as an 'open network' and there was no change in behavior.
I tried a Windows XP reinstall on the laptop (to Windows XP SP3) and there was no change in behavior.
I replaced the wifi card (with and identical model) and there was no change in behavior
As a last resort (and because the laptop needed it), I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a new SSD and put in additional 2 GB of RAM.
Now although the laptop can still see the hotspot, it cannot connect to it. Even though the correct password is typed at the prompt, it gives a 'Network Security Key mismatch' error and will not connect. The laptop can connect to the hotspot if it is set as 'open', but will not connect to any sites or web pages (i.e. same problem as before with Win XP).
The laptop *does* work with the Galaxy Nexus via USB tethering, which suggests that there is some kind of wifi issue, but the laptop connects to my home wifi network (Linksys E3000 running stock firmware) just fine.
My desktop computer (running Windows 7) exhibits the same behavior as the laptop under Windows 7.
I was able to get a Macbook and a Dell Latitude laptop to connect to the wifi hotspot and successfully browse the internet (I will have to look up the model numbers later).
I am writing to try to find out whether anyone has noticed any similar problems/incompatibilities and whether anyone might know the causes.
Is there a problem with the b/g/n connectivity of my laptop? Did the wifi hotspot b/g/n configuration on Android change with the 4.2 update? Might a bad install of android 4.2 on my phone be to blame? Maybe there is a problem with g or n protocols? Which does the 4.2 hotspot use?
Thanks in advance
same problem with me

The inability to either create a mobile hotspot and connect to it is why I went back to stock rooted 4.1.1. I have tried Muzzy and AOKP and could not create and connect to a hotspot using native tethering or Wifi Tether. It has been a while since I checked the forums, but did not see a solution that helped me
PS - I was trying to tether mobile devices not laptops though
My issue resolved on its own...!! Don't know how..!! but now I can use WiFi tether and also reverse tethering too..!! Reverse tethering is really too handy thanks to xda members for making awesome apps.

I have not been able to get any form of wifi AP to work since flashing over to 10.1 CM. it turns on the AP and I can get wifi to link but can't get an IP and any kind of connectivity to the internet... so far, I haven't been able to find any help for the issue but I'll keep reading!
this was after a wipe data & cache install of 10.1.

Tethering not working

Hi, I'm running the rasbean custom ROM with 4.2.1 on my galaxy nexus, and I can't seem to get wifi hotspot working with my computer. I tried the built in tethering option as well as several apps like foxfi as well as different encryption types with both my windows 7 pc and my windows 8 laptop. It says it has "limited connectivity" on both computers, with no internet access. It works perfectly when I tried connecting using my Kindle so i'm thinking I don't have something configured correctly. Thanks!
No one has any ideas?
For me it takes a minute to sort out the IP address and what not. I usually do an IP release and renew on my laptop if I have the limited connectivity problem.
