Hi there folks!
I've been searching and reading post for two days and i've found some interesting posts, an one that almost fits my case but i still need some advises or opinions
I've bought a HTC Desire branded on Orange (but i already unlocked to any network). Now what i want is to debrand. In many posts i see that some rooms need to root the phone, some note, some may cause wireless, radio or camera problems .. I would like to have an official rom that i can update always when htc launches updates and do not causes issues ot the phone like radio issues(or other), it is possible? I've seen official releases like in thread id 7559576 but it seems it cant receive updates and has some problems :S I've also seen and leedroid and oxygene seem nice roms...
If not possible to have an official rom that can update i would like one stable rom that causes no problems to phone (like radio, wireless, gps or camera issues..) that let enjoy to the max your phone and gives autonomy
Last question: The language of the phone can be installed independently of the ROM or the ROM has to be in that language?
Technical data (that i've seen there and looks important when updating rom):
hboot: 0.93.001
s-on
radio 5.10 05.30

Hi guys,
I love my Desire HD, I really do. Great phone. I get asked all the time what make it is... very nice owning it... BUT I hate Orange UK and their pesky interfering with the ROM. Some things just plain don't work.
So (and I have looked) there are lots of ROMs out there that I can Flash, but it's all very confusing to me.
What I need clear guidance on is:
1. Can I get a nice clean Genuine HTC Rom on it (with Sense)?
2. Will that give me OTA updates to Gingerbread or any future upgrades?
Sorry, but I seem to only find Mod guidance on here, but Im one of those people who like to put things back the way they were designed to be... (Im that sad...)
Ta for any help you can offer

1. Yes, if you just want stock rom you can root your UK branded Rom (if its base 1.72 you have to downgrade first check this guide, thats what i used and there's also a link to a downgrade guide in it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996) get S-OFF and install the official RUU (R om U pdate U tility) from 2.3.3. Or when you have root and S-OFF you can flash Clockworkmod recovery (the thing you need to flash any custom made stuff) and from there any custom rom you like. This is recommended because with it you can backup your current branded Rom in case you need to have it repaired and still want to be under warranty.
2. With official RUU you will get future OTA updates directly from HTC, but when you install 2.3.3 RUU you're already up do date. When you have a Custom Rom you will get updates from your rom Chef that you download over wifi/3g directly to your phone and flash it through Clockworkmod recovery

This is stock rom with improvements. Look at the features list, it will convince you I'd say its the most popular custom rom and a good point to start.
btw Orange is the best provider in terms of Data plans in my country. You get most out of your money. But the branding and support is horrible They have absolutely no clue what their talking about. When i asked them if my DHD was branded when i bought it the sales assistant didnt even know what that is... She had to ask someone else first. If thats the same in UK you're on a good way with installing the Rom YOU want. You'll get support here from guys that do even better than the guys from HTC. Believe me.
I've only ever met one sales assistant who knew what I was talking about, I felt strangely attracted to her...
I've tried a few roms and settled on cm7 for now, best thing to do is junk the stock rom and get flashing, the improvements in battery life should be enough to convince you lol

Thanks guys, this is really helpful....
The thing that tipped me over the edge was a trip to my local Orange Shop, where I went to get some answers as to why the Hot Spot feature wasn't working on the phone. I then had to spend 10 minutes explaining to the girl what the hotspot feature was, then DEMONSTRATE it to HER!
Orange guys must have been tinkering with the rom. Tethering and hotspot options worked out of the box for me but you better switch to a custom rom to get those features back and other goodies. Besides, it's funny .
Yep, like all the others recommended custom rom is the way forward. I was in your position before I started the flashing madness, I can promise you, you wouldn't regret it.. And we are so lucky to have such an active development section...

Yep if you follow all the instructions it is nigh on impossible for anything to go wrong. Even if it does however, due to the active forums, you will get an answer in no time!
Don't do it, once you start you can't stop flashing save yourself and run away while you can
On a serious note, the battery life improvement and virtual 24hr help with this forum are good enough reasons on there own to do it, you won't regret it...
Ok Guys.... I'm gonna give you a laugh.
I've had my DHD since March (from Orange) and like all of you I am now not happy with (what you state is Stock ROM)
At the very tender age of 53yrs and now burnt our with computing and the like I rarely understand all the lingo/terms used Etc ;((
After calling on a phone 'expert' shop yesterday and was willing to shed cash if they could root & flash (presumably after de-branding) I saw the blank expression on their face.... "Nope... we don't know what your talking about"
Hmmm (I thought) So now I am determined to scare myself to death and ATTEMPT to get my phone to where it should be! But I am SOOoo lost on all the termanology used.
I am on 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.32.21-g46445e7
Build 1.84.61.2
At the present time I am running on SPB 3D and have Laucher Pro installed as I was exerimenting with home page mods.
Still awaiting Ginger and can't see me getting it from Orange (UK) for any time yet. Phone does som curios things at times and seems to be getting buggy.
Phone calls drop, incomming second caller now boots me from my original call, icons vannish Etc.
Oh... Not keen on all this Facebook lark which the stock Orange thing has installed.
So.. ok, Not now happy with my DHD, but don't know where to start in geriatric terms.
Love this forum tho'
Hi
I am sending you a PM with a full guide and all the tools you require
hi guy's
thanks for your effort here, i have 2 questions:
1-i would like to install new HTC GB RUU, but the problem is arabic language is not supported this time from HTC, when i contact htc they give me some advices to download some app from market (which can help me in some app like browser, sms,) but Facebook and email service cant be replaced..?? so my question is there any way to include arabic language to the last GB upgrade..??
2- in case i can't add arabic to HTC update, can someone advice me which ROM can be simmler to HTC ROM (GB) i mean classic ROM without tweaks, additional app, i just want something basic...
my device is not rooted..
Before you rush off and update to gingerbread with the new RUU you should do some research. The new update comes with an updated bootloader, meaning it cannot yet be rooted or S-OFF'd. There have been many complaints about phones being soft-bricked after the update also (stuck in HTC screen, phone not booting, no recovery, not able to use fastboot as they are S-ON [you'll learn about what all that means in due time] ), as as of yet, there was no way to fix them.
If you want something similar to the new GB, there I believe is a ROM which is based on the actual official GB that has been released, for sense 2.1, I would try RCMix, it gave decent performance and had very little or no bugs that I can remember.
Last night I managed to de-brand my HTC Wildfire from Vodafone to HTC Generic firmware downloaded from shipped-roms.
The procedure seems to be a success, but I noticed something really weird - my Vodafone ES rom was version 2.24, while the HTC one is version 2.22. I checked for an update from the phone after that but no updates were available.
Is this the latest official version? (I know of some cases where companies change the version number just because they added their own apps/logos in the phone)
The procedure I followed was:
Install HTC Sync
Create a Gold Card
Downloaded the latest WWE rom I found on shipped-roms (RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe)
Ran the installer and waited for it to finish
Thanks in advance for any replies.
P.S. using gold card doesn't root my phone right? (I don't want it to be rooted at this point, so I thought I'd ask)
It's normal. All different carrier branded ROM's have their own version numbers, and the WWE ROM has the lowest build number among these (i.e . 2.22), Most probably, since it was the first one to be released.
And no, you are not rooted, so don't worry about it.

Oh pretty neat I guess.
Any recommendations on which ROM should I keep?
In the past I was always advised to use stock firmware on smartphones, but not sure about the case with modern ones.
Since you don't want to have root at this point of time, you will have to stick with the Stock ROM. If it works fine for your needs, I would say go for it, but, if you feel the need to experiment / mod, then definitely give ROMs like Cyanogenmod 7 and other Gingerbread a try. Or, if so inclined, you can go for Sense based ROMs as well, which look and feel like the Stock ROM, but with various tweaks, improvements, features and optimizations.
Hello everyone
I'm thinking of installing this ROM: FXP117- CM9.0
how to know if my device is Supported, because sometimes I read there are versions of Baseband that will work with the ROM and others might have issues ...etc
I do know it needs Bootloader unlock, already checked my device and I'm set to go.
But I don't want to face signal issues, and other stuff that the dev is saying they are working on the thread. (for example I installed ICS on HTC HD 2 after a week the radio signal stopped working, I know it's a different story but I don't want to face such thing on my Arc S).
Can anyone help please?!
hello
i read a lot bout this mobile and its price is awesome for someone like me who's ready to purchase mid-range mobile for close price...but i lost with ROMs and i'm afraid to buy it and experience hell with it.
i'd purchase it from chinese online store which provide some ROM supports google play and semi translated ROM , so for sure i must be sure to have necessary knowledge before purchasing .
1- what's with heating issue? is it from ROM or the mobile ? cause i read a lot of threads worldwide regarding this matter, and i dont know if it's reasonable or unbearable all the time heating?
2- official ROM is indian one here which should be ZUI 2.0.093_ST_16081 , so im assuming it's %100 english language which is perfect, but i'm from arabian country so i need arabic keyboard and encoding.
i believe arabic keyboard is easy to obtain once i download google keyboard and add language, but for encoding i need someone to confirm it, cause i want to browse arabic contents from apps like whatsapp or from chrome browser, i want to know if arabic would displayed correctly or it won't be supported and appears like rubbish?
ps. i dont want arabic UI for the device.
3- GPS, i read some threads saying that official ROM is the best , and some/most custom roms have some issues, is that so far ?
4- i love STOCK ANDROID experience, never interested with extra customization whether it was official OEM rom or 3rd party ROM, especially avoiding bloatware as possible, who's giving me such a STABLE experience, is it... ?
A- official indian rom?
B- official 3rd party ROMs like cosmic-os 7.1.1_20170317_1.4 , CitrusCAF-3.1-TANGERINE or mokee MK60.1-z2-170413-RELEASE ?
i know there's other roms like lineage , but i wont use something unofficial.
5- is this the correct official indian rom that if installed, would support OTA and receive nougat in may? Z2132_Q01017.1_M_ZUI_2.0.093_ST_160811
sorry for long thread , please help me ASAP if possible, shipping is taking 3-4 weeks so i must order soon before offer/stock finish.
regards
First of all, hey there, glad to know you're wondering buying this phone. Actually, it's not a mid-phone, I guess, 'cause many other (like Huawei P9 Lite, Galaxy S6 Edge) phones are weaker than the ZUK comparing their specs.
1. Not sure where you have read about heating, but I'm not having such a problem. Using stock China version Nougat ROM just with unlocked bootloader and rooted. I haven't tried any custom ROM yet, so cannot answer if it heats with custom ROM. So to conclude, the heat depends not only on the phone itself or the ROM that's installed, but it's important where you'e living too, e.g. in hot countries or so increases your phone temperature.
2. Yeah, after everything you can set up your own language using G-board, btw, encoding is fine, I'm Lithuanian and it has many letters that other countries doesn't have, for example, ąčęė and so on, and the phone displays it perfectly, just unsure how recipient sees it, but I assume it's upon recipients' phone settings.
3. It makes sense - Custom ROM aren't officially released and it's created by some developers; and this is the reason why some custom ROM may have certain problems. On the other hand, GPS /w official ROM works flawlessly.
4. About bloatware.. There's lots of it on stock ROM. Some of them you can delete, some of them you cannot. The only way for now is to unlock your bootloader (otherwise you won't be able to root your phone - and I don't know why when many other phones can be rooter without unlocking bootloader, but whatever..), then root your phone and remove manually using some kind of app (System APP Remover, etc) or just download AdAway. It's all upon you.
5. Nougat is already released, you should receive it either with China or Indian version ROM. But yeah, you must be on that kind of stock version that you've written (I upgraded from that version to Nougat)
If you've any other questions quote me, 'll give a try to answer ASAP.
