hello
i just installing 3.4.3_11-Stock.UKTmobile_BLUR and my defy now not rooting
i tried su to root and he tell he have new update if updated tell me error
z4root... i click in permanent root and after 1 minute he close the app from himmself !!!
search for Superoneclick v1.7 and it should do the trick
Z4root doesn't work on this rom.
As mentioned you need Superoneclick.
If you look in the Defy Android Dev forum it is in the "how to sticky guide" at the top of the page the version for the 2.51 rom worked for me & i'm running the 3.4.3-11 rom on my Defy.

Ok I have some questions regarding the best method procedure to take with my unrooted defy running stock ROM 2.2.1. Also if this info is consolidated it may help reduce people re-asking.
Can I use superoneclick to unroot the defy on stock 2.2.1 or should I used z4root?
Next what recovery should I install; what is the most recommended?
When Flashing ROMs after successfully rooting and installing a more flexible recovery can a Eclair ROM be installed over a Froyo ROM and vice-versa? I plan on sticking with Froyo ROMs or better, but thought it was good question to ask for other noobs.
Any other helpful info related to the questions above is appreciated!
*********** UPDATE **********
Solved I used Barebones 1.5.1 and used parts of directions from here and here
I will write it out for noobs like me in the next day or so.
z4root did not work for me and I'm having a very hard time finding any info on rooting 2.2.1 version 34.4.9 T-Mobile US...
I can't find anything on this so I'm either the noobiest here or I am just blind.
I have a Defy with me here and its Sim free and just plain 2.1 Blur. So I want to know if I can just install 2nd init download MIUI/CM7 and instal it through clock work? Any advice is appreciated
Please read some more. I'd recommend you take a look at the 'Defy Android Development' section. To help you a bit:
You should first root your phone.
Then flash Android 2.2 (flash a nandroid backup and a fixed sbf to keep downgrade ability)
After you've done that you can install Cyanogen.
Yes, read the CM7 FAQ Thread in the Defy Android Development.
I think you should use fixed and flashing method so that you can have downgradability to 2.1

Go to 2.2 stock via MSU or RSD anyway. Since this is an official update, Warranty is not an issue. You don't need root to do this.
Once there, and you may find 2.2 very usable (I do and you know from the Blade how much cooking I do!), you can then try 2.3 flavours. They need you to be at 2.2 anyway.
Hi
How can i return to the froyo 2.2 my Defy came with? Which sbf do i need for Germany? Or ist this working over a *.zip?
Wanna be able to return to stock in case i want to sell it..
Plz help or guide me to the right thread...cant find it
EDIT: Ok found the info here on XDA...
have you tried browsing through the official SBFs page? There is a list of FULL SBFs (I think) that you may flash on your phone.
But you have to remember what particular CG version you had prior to installation of CM7. Check the thread about the Beginner's Guide to Motorola Defy. It's a very informative guide.
downgrade
is it possible to downgrade from defy 2.3.4 gingerbread?

Click to collapse
I think so. I'm assuming that Gingerbread 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 are under the same CG versions (that's from how I understood the All-in-One guide).
But you haven't flashed any FULL SBFs yet, right? You just installed the CM7?
hi guys IM NOT TAKING NO CREDITS ON THIS ONLY WHO CREATE SUPER ONE CLICK
i successfully root my motorola flipside 2.2 updated with superoneclick
enjoy
Hi
I have tried to root my recently bought Defy+, but none of the "one click"-solutions work for my 2.3.6 firmware Defy+
Anyone got experience with rooting 2.3.6 Defy?

If it's the stock gingerbread (2. 3.4) of the defy + you can root it here http://www.psouza4.com/droid3/

Android version is 2.3.6 (Gingerbread) Pete's Motorola Root Tools gives me an error and states the exploit may have been patched in my newer version.
Any other suggestions?
did you try the droid3 root script?? but it doesnt work for 2.3.5

There is a 2.3.6???
Indeed there is 2.3.6. Might be the Scandinavian edition. I would take a screenshot for you all, but then again I'd have to be root...
You can read the sticky topic "[GUIDE] All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide" and follow the downgrade section.
Oh, you just wanted to root it, not downgrade it, my bad.
