[Q] CyanogenMod/Tasker 'screensaver' clock question - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Tasker profile that I setup to open the Desk Clock when I put my DInc in the cradle by my bed to use as an alarm clock. When I did this it automatically switched to the "dim" mode. This was on a Sense ROM so I'm assuming that was part of the Sense clock. So, my question is: how can I do this with CM? When I set Tasker to open the default clock it opens but it's really bright and I have to hit the little sun/moon icon which is really what I want. But then at some point the screen goes to another mode where it's kindof a blue color with just the clock and date. I'm assuming that's some kind of screensaver but no idea where that's coming from or how it's managed. If I could get this to automatically start that would be ideal.
Any ideas?

Great question. I think the Sense clock could be launched into night mode via activity com.htc.android.worldclock.NightClock
I don't see the same activity available for the AOSP clock, but I could certainly be missing something.
FYI - if you long-press the night/day button instead of just tapping it, you'll go straight to screensaver mode (the blue clock on black background). You can also control how long it takes to get there: go to alarms, settings, screensaver timeout (and you can also change the color)

That helps a lot. Thanks. Maybe it's time for me to write my own clock app

If anyone knows how to go directly to the screensaver mode using Tasker I'd give lots of thanks

I've just been doing this:
*If phone is on side
*if phone is plugged in via usb
*then launch clock
screensaver comes on pretty quick after that.

[Q] Alarm clock customization or replacement

Hi,
Is it possible to display alarm and meeting (from calendar) notifications on a desktop and not in the Notifications window?
Why I'm asking is: to turn off the alarm I need to tap a small area on the top to access the Notifications Window and only then to stop the alarm. This operation takes time and wakes up all my family. Because it's hard to tap a small bar on the top then you just woke up.
Maybe I'm wrong, but in the stock ROM all the notifications pops up on the main screen. Is it so or not?
What are my options??
- Is it possible to customize the way alarms pop up in Topaz/Rhodium based ROMs (in my case Dutty's)?
- Or should I search for a third party Alarm Clock which would display huge SNOOZE and DISMISS buttons on the main screen?
Thanks
I use Galarm. It integrates into TF3D so your next alarm is displayed on the home screen. When the alarm goes off it's a full screen alarm, no little notifications in the task bar.

Wow.. greate application!
Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Btw.
v2.0 was just released and it's not free anymore!!! It requires registration code. Otherwise - trial will end by the end of this month
5€ is not that much.
Anyway.. I have half a month to test the app and make sure that it really satisfies my needs.
Thanks for the info! This app has been working perfectly for me so I haven't even looked for any updates. I'll be upgrading to 2.0 as soon as possible to help support this great app!
Regards

I muss the utility of the Sense Clock, any suggestions?

I've switched to CM7 recently, and really miss the utility of the Sense clock app.
Would really like something that has clock/alarm/timer/stopwatch in one app.
I've searched for a while and can't find anything.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Well, i can't say i know something that covers all your req's, but I use FlipClock Blue Magic and it is a pretty nice clock. Resembles the sense clock and allows skins and other customizations. It can show your next alarm on the clock (although not set a new alarm). It does allow you to set an application to start when you touch the hours part of the clock. It can also display system information and weather.
No timer/stopwatch though, but if you find a timer/stopwatch app, you can set it to launch that app by touching the hours on the clock.
... Just set the cm clock as the application to launch for the hours and it brings you to a screen where you can set a new alarm, show picture slideshow, access your music, and get back to your home screen. Might be worth a shot
This was written by an XDA dev. Absolutely awesome.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I'm not looking for a widget. I'm fine with Beautiful Widgets/Simi.
<br>
I have it now set up to bring up stock clock when the hour/minutes are touched. I wanted instead to have it launch something else that would include both a clock and a timer/stopwatch.
But I guess if it doesn't exist, then it doesn't exist.
Oh, lol! Sorry I totally misunderstood your question lol. I will keep an eye out now that I re-read lol

[Q] Dumb down defy? + w/ wificalling

I convinced my dad to get a waterproof smartphone for the free wifi calling.
Its his first smartphone and he wants me to lock down the phone so he doesnt mess anything up. Hes quite talented that way.
This thread says some of the roms dont have tmobile uma wifi calling
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931972&page=3
I dont have the post count for that forum.
In new to android and dont know which rom to use? Motorblur has to go lol.
Phone has a red lens.
He doesnt have a data plan only wifi. He will mostly use wifi for calling but might read email and check weather once in a while but wont be surfing the web or playing games or anything.
If i could i would like a launcher with a single home screen with only about 10 apps and they would be locked from moving. There would be a largish call dock icon on the bottom and a clock widget near the top. The notification bar would have the date and a longer battery icon.
While on the home screen, the menu button would turn a flashlight on and off and the search button would launch the music player. Hitting the home button five times and entering a password would bring up the list of all the installed apps so i could go to the settings or market etc to change things.
The notification bar woud have slightly bigger icon and when swiped down would also show wifi and bluetooth controls like on my moms samsung galaxy. Also liker hers the lock screen would change to the puzzle piece swipe when theres a new message.
Get a custom launcher like Go Launcher EX and hide all the apps you dont want to use from the launcher
Stuff like browser I is a bad idea to remove, just hide the icon to launch it.
For WiFi intensive, I'd suggest going with a stock Blurless Froyo, since CM7 could have some issues when using WiFi.
Adw ex has an option to lock the homescreen so nothing moves. You can set it to be one page and lock it.
Sent from my MOTWX435KT using XDA App
adw launcher works pretty good! I was able to remove all but the one main desktop screen and then lock it. Had to set desktop overshoot to 0 to stop screen from bouncing when flicked.
Where would i ask for the following requests.
-Wider dock bar icons. having 3 or 5 dialer icons on the dock looks crappy lol.
-taller dock bar icon.
-menu button turns a flashlight app on and off
-search button launches a music player app
-home button works normally and goes home, if pressed 30 times in a row then brings up menu for me to get to settings/wallpaper/unlock/app drawer.
I am not sure on ADW EX but Go Launcher EX have the option of changing the dock background. Just use a picture with just 2 or 3 icons as back ground and use transparent icons. I set this way to mimic original DEFY launcher home with just Phone and Contacts in the dock bar. Attached the files here. Got it from here only but forgot the original post.
*** Note sure if I have explained it properly here
Try Launcher 7. You can lock the screen so icons can't be moved, and hide the rest from the app list. MIUI it's simple and easy to use, was great for my wife to learn Android, CM7 can get kind of confusing for some people.
Swyped from my MIUI 1.9.23 Defy
Angelus47 I dont like launcher 7 cant put enough icons/tiles on one screen.
Does MIUI have tmobile wifi calling app?
pprakash Is it better to have button image on the dock background and transparent icons over or is it better to cut the button image across several icon sized wide pieces.
In adw launcher the dock background is set by the theme. Im not sure how to create a theme. On the other hand if i didnt scale the split icons pieces to the right size there would be gaps between them I think.
Right now i have one visual voicemail on the left, one messaging on the right and three dialers in the middle.
perhaps i could find where the images for themes are stored and replace the dock backround image for the default theme.

With Go Launcher EX I find having the single image as background provided slightly bigger images rather than using individual icons. But I have attached individual icons as well here hopefully it helps you ..

maybe it just me - bugs in lollipop?

Hi,
So finally I've upgraded my G3 cat.6 (F460K) to lollipop. I find a few things annoying and I guess it is applicable to all G3:
1. lock screen notification - is it just me or LG made it useless? what's the point of all notifications if you cannot enter them from the lock screen. Am I missing something? some notifications (such as calendar) I can tap and then slide below it to arrive directly to the event. other notification does not work so I don't see the point in such notifications. tell me if it happen to you to.
2. my bottom bar is white. in some applications (whatsapp, browser etc) every time I type something and keyboard pops up, the bottom bar turns black. after finishing the typing it goes back to white.
3. no Qmemo (screen capture) from the home bottom
4. the notification bar keeps changing colors but most of it is not the same color as the app. is there any rule?
Please share your thoughts. and tell me if the above happen to you too.
Thanks.
1. works with all. When you press notification it indicates that you have to unlock the screen. After unlock app will open.
2. settings-homescreen-navbar style. Which one you chosed?
3. not using so wouldnt know
4. its material design. Apps that are not built with material design will not have the same backgroud
1. Yeah, and having only 2 notifications there is frustrating. There's room for more...
2. Strange, never happened to me on both stock and hacker's keyboard.
3. Yep, no navring for 5.0! I really hope that it's fixable...
4. The rule should be "let application decide, if it doesn't care - then use color of action bar". Usually, actionbar sits on top of activity, and everything looks fine.

Weather in Android 6.0 lockscreen

Hi! I just got my new LG G4 a few days ago, and I would like to know if there is an easy way to get weather information (preferably via widget) in the lockscreen of Android 6.0. My phone is not rooted, and at this moment I do not intend to do so, either.
I know this can be achieved with alternative lock screens, but as far as I know, those lock screens do not allow me to use the camera in a safe session while the phone remains locked, and this feature is a must for me. So, if anyone knows of a replacement lockscreen that allows this, then please let me know.
Thanks!
No one knows?
Well, you can always use Google now to find that info. Just say "Ok google, what's the weather like today?" (need to have google now installed and voice trigger activated)
The LG G4's lock screen itself has the animations of weather when there is high intensity of rain, fog or storm out there. That's really an awesome feature.
If you still want to see exact numbers on your lock screen, you can get any app that puts the info on your notification bar. Naturally, the notification appears on lock screen on g4 so from there you can get it....
Hope it helps

Thanks a lot! I can't get the weather animation on the lock screen. Does it only appear with a particular lock method (swipe, PIN, etc.)? Or with a particular swipe effect?
As for an app that puts the info on the notification bar, wouldn't that make the notification light blink constantly? Also, wouldn't that prevent the phone from sleeping and thus consume much more battery?

Hey,
So many questions at once! Will answer one by one
You will get the weather animation when the weather is intense, like its raining out there or fog is there. Not for the general temperatures, but for the unusual ones.
The option can be enabled in Settings > Lock Screen > Weather Animations.
For the App that puts info on notification Bar, you have the option to disable notification light for a particular app. You can disable the notification light for the weather app, however some would prefer that light keep blinking 24x7
No, notifications do not prevent phone from sleeping. Understand it this way: when you get messages on any app, say whatsapp or facebook messenger, you get notifications. But does that prevent phone from sleeping or consumes extra battery? no. Similarly, this app will just be getting hourly updates from server just like you getting messages on whatsapp. So Standby mode won't be affected.

I do not have that setting I have not done much to the phone since I got it. I updated it to 6.0, and I am using Lightning Launcher instead of the LG one. Could any of those things prevent me from seeing that option in settings?

Ok, I understand. Though, I see that my lockscreen has space for 2 notifications at a time, so I guess that if I receive an sms and I have a calendar event, the weather notification will be hidden, right? Oh, well, at least it is better than not having the notification at all.

Well Mate, I completely understand your situation.
Unfortunately, unlocking G4 isn't possible and at MM, rooting is not possible too (as of now).
Else I am sure custom roms can provide you all that you want with minimal effort.

And yes, you need to use LG launcher along with weather app from LG.
Anyways, LG launcher is quite stable and once you customize it with your preferences, its actually better than any other launcher out there. It allows you to switch off screen on double tap, the folders are quite good and customization, you can uninstall apps directly from drawer...in short its a good launcher.
I myself preferred Google now launcher earlier before having G4 but G4's launcher is really good.
I have an old app called Weatherbug Elite. It has the option of keeping live weather info in the notification bar. With it turned on the temperature is always displayed and when you slide open the notification bar there is a panel of weather info. This same panel shows on the lock screen via notifications. It does not keep the phone awake or blink the light. If there are several notifications it compresses on the lock screen them and you can expand them with a slide.
This app is no longer available, I got it as a free app of the day from Amazon a long time ago. There must be other apps that do the same thing though.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to track it down. Still, I do not understand why Google nerfed the lockscreen so much in the last versions of Android.
