Hello, I'm a noob with a quick question about undervolting. I am running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 EB13/EXT4 with the Twilight Zone kernel. I have the SetCPU.apk installed and I have some profiles and sliders set. I would like to undervolt to save some battery. Is this thing already undervolted? If so, is it only undervolted at 1.2GHz? Is there even a way for me to change anything relating to undervolting?
Thanks for any help.

Undervolting is something that needs to be coded into the kernel by the dev. The best way to save battery would b to use setcpu to a max of 1ghz. An overclocked/undervolted kernel will run at 1.2 ghz while using the same amount of juice that a norma kernel would use at 1ghz

and if they've done it right, which they have, 1Ghz will be using less battery than stock at 1Ghz. in theory the lower you set it the less battery you should use, but you dont directly change the undervolting settings, just the clock speed.
Much obliged.
I think that kernel only has undervolting enabled on 1ghz. So if you're on 1.2ghz it will only be overclocked without the undervolt...I think

I believe its undervolted at 1.2. Reason I say this is because I flashed the genecide kernal and set it at 1.2 ghz which I know is not undervolted on genecide only 1ghz is I believe and I got crappy battery. On the twilight kernal I'm set at 1.2 and getting great battery. That's just my observation so far.

I'm sorry, but you can't say that a great battery is caused simply by an undervolt at 1.2Ghz. The Twilight kernel, from my knowledge, is not undervolted at 1.2Ghz, only at 1.0Ghz. The great battery life you're getting out of the Twilight kernel is because of how it was coded and optimized. My 2 cents.
Twilight kernel is not undervolted on 1.2 ghz. Only 1.0. Read the thread

Hey guys is it safe to use set cpu to oc evo? or what app would you recommend?
I use set CPU and it is safe to a certain point. If you overclock to far your phone will lock up and you will have to pull the battery. You have to experiment to see how far u can go. My phone is stable as a rock at 1152 MHz but gets llocked up at 1190 MHz so like i said experiement with it

614 mhz is the new OC! Try over clocking for sure but you see more profitable results under clocking. I do however use set cpu to OC when I am charging

Fellas,im looking to use SetCPU to OC my evo,i need a custom kernel i assume.two questions.
1.can i flash a custom kernel using the mount/unmount zip in recovery for my GodMode Synergy?
2.What Are Good Values,im trying to safely underclock to save battery life.

@gotheart, I strongly suggest freedom kernel by Lithid. There are bugs as it is in beta stage but he is an amazing developer and will implement an incredible kernel. He has one specifically for godmode so make sure you get that. He has versions that underVOLT the processor, using less battery. Though I would be cautious as some phones become very unstable with these changes.
Underclocking for CPU is variable... I like 614 MHz, some choose to go lower. I have noticed Sense ROMs (like synergy) are a bit more touchy with performance tweaks. For me, even in hot weather I need to bump my settings up, as my phone can't keep up with the heat.

Thanks so much man.i was a dev at one point..but i dunno jack about clocking cpu.lol.so youre saying 614,as in set the max value to 614 correct?and i sure will check out that kernel

Not to be a nag,but im digging for that kernel,no dice.can u link me over there pal?

I use 128 min and 614 Max. Depending on my use, and how often I'm flashing, I can get about 20 solid hours

im using 128 MHz and 614MHz with the smartass governor.. runs really good
My best battery life is on AOSP ROM's with this set up on tiamat kernel.

what aosp rom your running?
I had been running decks, however, I have jumped skip to SalvagMod.

Ill also note a program i purchased, was cpu master by antutu inc.
Pretty much similar to setcpu.
Has profile options etc.

Was just curious if there is a way to manually edit something to over clock it, if it can be done at all or if I need to cook it into the CM9.1 kernel. Any ideas help thanks fellas.

You may want to talk with Faux. I know those kernels had overclocked the GPU 3D @ 320 MHz & GPU 2D @ 220 MHz.
In addition, I believe that TDJ cooked these features into his kernels as well.
What are the best CPU Speeds for the Play? and why?
Elaborate. You don't say what you're using it for. For normal use? 245MHz to 1GHz works great for me (stock speed)
For gaming 700Mhz to 1400Mhz max.

I'm currently using 245 MHz - 1.5 GHz with SmartAssV2. Great performance and battery life. =)
245 mhz min and 1.3ghz max SmartassV2
Good for games and daily use.
OndemandX?? SmartassV2's better for all of that.

100mhz with screen off, 300mhz when on the launcher, 750mhz when playing emulators, and 1.2ghz for psx emulator.

Xperia Play R800X w/ supercharged stock 2.3.3 and doomkernel
I'm testing Superbad governor right now and I'm liking it, but it's a kind of Smartass v2.
I think the best maximum frecuency is 1.2GHz because gives a 20% boost with mild battery drain, but with some undervolting you can go up to 1.4GHz or 1.5GHz because undervolting relieves the extra power consume.
but still i dont understand what is governor function ? what is the difference between all those governor ? what each of the governor do . for example what is the difference between smartassv2 and ondemand .
@kuro... To better understand the govs I suggest taking a look @ wedgess kernel posts. He basically has them broken down & describes what each one does or how they work.

I just over clocked, well I should say tried because it's not even working. I set the min/max at 1.5MHz but for some reason it's not using it at all, in CPU spy it's showing that it's staying at 800MHz. Anyone know why it would be doing this? I'm running Rujelus 1.0.4.8, with Agats 0.5.4.

You must mean 1500 MHz. What program are you using to overclock? Also, what is your governor?

Yeah sorry, and the governor is pegasusq, and using ExTweaks. Would it be because it was on the charger? Well actually I don't think it could be, because before doing that I set min at 1200MHz and max at 1500 while still on the charger and it was staying on 1200.

Not all hardware can be overclocked, if it could we would all have 1500mhz cpu in our phones. Have you tried increasing your voltage?

No, I've never messed with that because I don't know what exactly I am doing with it, and I don't want to mess up my phone.
I just realized that I had profiles on, so I turned them off. Still isn't working right, I have min at 1500 MHz and max at 1600MHz. It kicks into 1600 for a few seconds but then scales below the min. Here's a screen shot of the setting and CPU spy.

Or system tuner pro. Remember to never set on boot. At those speeds its likely I will crash and burn.

Often when you overclock additional voltage is needed to run stable at higher frequencies. You may try increasing the voltage slightly to see if it works. I wouldnt go over +.50mv from stock
if your still having problems try viperROM. i got it working with oc. 1600Mhz. even got a higher smartbench scrore then my nexus 7
