I have recently picked up a SE MBW-150 Music Edition... Just to be plagued with the super dim OLED screen issue.
From what I have read, there seems to be two major issues with these watches that are deal breakers for most people, as SE won't repair/replace your device unless it is still under warranty (kind of hard to do since they are out of production).
1) Battery issues. Status: solved, thanks to XDA members
2) Fading/dead OLED display. Status: doesn't appear that anyone has tackled this problem yet.
So, after being plenty pissed that the gift I had just bought myself was broken. I decided to get past it and make the best of it.... And take it apart.
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't like reading, start here.
The top part is just me being long winded.
--------------------------------------------------------------
There are two pieces of good news...
1) It still works after I got done snooping around inside and put it back together.
2) I think I have sourced replacement OLED displays.
I am waiting for the display panels I ordered to be shipped, and I will be the first guinea pig to see if my solution works.
After that (providing that everything goes well) I would be willing to offer repairs on a first come first serve basis for a nominal fee (cover parts, shipping, and buy me a beer lol).
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't like reading, stop here... Lazy.
--------------------------------------------------------------
So all in all, I really have some hope for extending the life of a product that all of us paid way to much for to get just enough life out of to get out of warranty. I really don't see how Sony Ericsson can do this to us in the first place, charge top dollar and then out right refuse to service them if they are out of warranty.
Once I get the panels in, I will post pics of before and after.
Hopefully after will be a pic of my MBW-150 Music with a working display... But there is always the chance of it being a pic of melted pieces, char marks, and bandages... Lets hope for the first one

30-Mar-2011 Update:
4-8 week for delivery of initial order of red oled displays.

31-Mar-2011 Update:
Added information on OLED displays I am trying
to work with. Link to post
--------------------------------------------------------------
This is very good news. My display went out too, but when I tried to take the watch apart something seemed to be catching, so I chickened out.
I'll be watching and waiting to see your results.
Just an FYI.
The displays I am getting are red OLED.
having the music edition, I wanted orange, like the OEM screen but I couldn't find them anywhere. Red seemed like it would semi match the color scheme.
The brightness rating was lower on red, but predicted lifespan was almost double that of the other colors.
The Executive that I have and the Classic both have white displays, so if you get it figured out, I hope you can get some of those too.

Just checked mfg datasheet. If the displays work out, white is available.
Thankkkk....... ...
count me in as a future customer, if your project goes good!
UPDATE FROM SUPPLIER:
4-8 Weeks for delivery.
UPDATE FROM ME:
Prices are looking good. My initial order was only two displays (one for the watch, and one in case I screw up). Total price with displays and shipping was just under $30 US.

Once I am certain that it will work, I will post all the info I have.
I'm not pulling a Sony and saying that I am not giving info out, just that I want to be sure that the info is actually correct first.
There's a set of 96x16 for $15 on Ebay; I was thinking they might be similar to the originals for my Executive edition (says blue). I haven't disassembled my 150 yet to see if they're the same display, but the specs mentioned hot bar contacts. My soldering skills wouldn't lend themselves to something like this, but definitely keep us posted on how this works. I would love to get my 150 working again. I hope you manage to solve this issue!

Just looked up the eBay one.
Those use a tab connector, not solder-on. And ribbon location is wrong. Good find though, I am constantly looking for alternatives in case mine won't work.

Already have that. But thanks.
Their internal photos are public through the FCC. But they applied for, and received, a permanent confidentiality status on the parts list. Which, from what I can tell, only screws us on the screen as all markings on the chips and other components are readily visible.
Been thinking about why I was holding back on specs for the displays I have on order...
Mostly holding back in case I was completely off the mark on these actually working, and didn't want to look like a dumb ass if it failed... But that doesn't make any sense, if it fails I will look like a dumb ass regardless of if people know what components I was using or not lol.
So, in the spirit of XDA, and getting things done as a community, here's what I am using.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer!!! - I don't know if these will even work yet!
If you further break your broken watch by using these,
it is NOT MY FAULT. Proceed with caution.

Edit: Also, you will see in the tech brief that these are available in red, yellow, green, blue, and white... If they end up working this leaves us some new found room for customization.
Edit Edit: sample photo from manufacturer.

More info.
While I had an electrical engineer in my office today, I decided to pick his brain on this whole project... his verdict was that he is certain that the Truly displays will work, which leaves the only potential issue left to be fitting the face of the display into the black plastic behind the face of the watch. (Hopefully it fits right in)
Awesome news?
Yeah it sounds like good .... I Hope it Works
Waiting with bated breath
Looking forward to hearing your results. And I thought I was a fan of the MBWs!
I have 3 of them, one with the dim oled.
Anyone know where to get a replacement band for the Classic?
Thank you!!

I have three of these myself, also one with the dim LED. In the OpenWatch thread, someone posted a link to replacement Music Edition bands here: http://www.gigatel.hu/G21654. It's not in English so I can't tell if they offer the other bands or not. Maybe they're the same anyway.
Someone else bought an aftermarket tan one that looks good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7240435
I would be interested in repairs/replacement of OLED display as well as i have the executive edition and realize how important it is when it's NOT working properly!!!

Greetings
I havent seen the picture of both colors side by side here in the forum so I thought I put the pictures here for people to come and see directly
I prefer the HTC Legend body, but those are the body alternatives (Silver or Urban Brown) if you want a full horse power of the HTC Desire

The Silver version does look much better then I thought it would look.
But I think in the end I am still going to choose the Brown version

agreed, .. i wish that they shoved the horse power of this beast in a legend-like unibody ...
but meh, cant have everything right?
the urban brown will be nice, it will catch people's eyes (is it black? is it brown? what is it?) Lol
I think I also saw a black one on amazon.fr
I really want a silver one, anyone know anywhere in UK selling it?

there is no "black" desire, .. its Urban brown, .. sometimes it looks black in the pictures but it isnt really black
contact clove.co.uk, and ask them wither they will get a silver version, they are very helpful
They are both ugly, if only the brown one was brushed metal like on Hero
Silver paints tend to scratch very easily
Hi I just received an interesting response from a mail I sent HTC - I asked if it was possible to tell from the part number as to what colour the device will be and what would be avaliable sim free in the UK;
Thanks for your email,
In regards to this the current pre-order will be for the item as shown in the picture which will hopefully be the black/grey colour, we will have more info closer to release day and if you are unhappy about pre-ordering an item without knowing the colour is confirmed i would advise holding this until it is evident the colour that is going to be released,
So it would appear there is no brown model at all! Which makes sense since it doesn't look brown in any of the pics I have seen. Personally I want a silver one.
wow sliver looks much better than i originally thought. Might consider that now..
I personally like the silver version, it looks more expensive and high-quality. However, scratches will probably be more apparent D=

there is no black, .. there is only brown, dark brown, .. in some pictures it appears to be black, .. but it isnt,
Can be pre-ordered at PDA Shop in the Netherlands
I think the silver would be a great eye catcher
Have preordered the brown one. Reason: I don't like a greyish paint that easily scratches and is in too much contrast with the many dark screens that most app/site developers tend to favour.
Besides that: Brown sounds perhaps ugly as a phone colour but it almost looks blackish (so no ugly retro-brown). And, once you went black, you'll never go back
The Gunmetal (silver) color looks nice, but I think I will stick with the brown/dark color. If it had the metal-back like the HTC Legend, then that would be a major seller

Agree.
Btw, I am really starting find it funny how HTC's strategy works! Again, here is a person saying 'IF the Desire had SOMETHING THAT ANOTHER PHONE HAS WHICH GOES ON SALE IN THE SAME MONTH, it would be great'. They really leave out options so they can sell their next phone! Or somebody here that wants to tell me they just COULD NOT have used the Legend's metal-body on the Desire? (maybe because of the amazing hardware?)

No its not funny strategy, thats how they can generate more revenue, .. imagine that HTC (and all other manufacturers) instead of making different features phones, make one super/pretty phone. Who will buy other than that phone? noone, and the users will keep that super/pretty phone for years without drolling over other devices.
I also wish if i could get the the Desire inside a Legend body (who does not?) but that is the way it is there is nothing perfect

True. In the end, HTC has to worry about revenue. Either way...this phone will be going into a protective case with a screen saver ASAP

sorry for any misunderstanding, but I clearly mentioned the source (at the time of making the thread) in the first post which is linked to your Flickr page
I had a completely terrible experience with this company. I was told a product was available early, so I ordered it that day and it took them 3 weeks to ship it still. I finally get my product, and I failed to actually read the description (probably my own fault) and its a clear snap on case. The picture makes it look like its a white snap on case (the coolest one Ive ever seen). So I call them, and their customer service person and I argued about how the case appears exactly as it would on the phone.

Like I said, Its kind of my fault. I tried to tell her the picture was very misleading and she was very rude. They took forever and a day to ship my product and some of their other things are overpriced. So, just letting you all know, I had a terrible experience. Buyer Beware
I just bought the same exact thing from them for my Captivate and I like it . It slides easily in and out of the pocket and it allows you to see the carbon fiber back still and logo for Galaxy s which is cool . I would say yea that the image needs updating but all in all I personally like the way it looks . Just my 2 cents
I agree its a good case, but Im not much for the clear cases... So as far as my experience as a whole, terrible. Product- good, but not my type.
The biggest thing for me is that I was told it was available august 12th but it wasnt shipped until sept 3rd.
it's obviously waaaay thicker than what the pic leads me to believe. color aside, that thing is a monstrosity.
Keep in mind, I didnt have the front faceplate on., so it probably looks bigger than it is. I just took a quick pic because I sat there for 10 or 15 minutes with this lady on the phone arguing that their picture wasnt an accurate depiction.
That's retarded...the picture is clearly white and the real thing is clearly clear lol.

According to her, it looks exactly as it would on the phone. She apologized that if I thought it had a smoky haze it was just a misconception. I was just mad I had to argue with her over it...
Deleted because I was wrong.
It turns out the product picture in the OP is that of the Azmer Clear Snap On Crystal Hard Case - which is described as having a color of "Clear"
http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-Clear-Snap-On-Crystal-Hard-Case-P88843.htm
Yeah, I realized after I got it that the description says clear... I ordered this when it was only on 1 or 2 sites. But I was looking through pictures of cases on google shopping to find one i liked, and I saw this picture... Didnt even bother to read because it looked awesome.
I think the problem is that the "picture" is not a photograph but an artist rendering. This rendering shows what parts are covered and what are not; it clearly does not show any cutouts for side buttons - this should be visible in either the front or back image.
They took a picture of the phone and shaded around it with an opaque image to show how the case would cover. The case is bigger then pictured, and has a completely different level of transparency. I see no disclaimer that this is an artists renderring.
This is misleading and i would dispute with your credit card company or paypal.

So Just to bump this I PMed ^that guy^ over a week ago with my order number and still no reply. So still not looking like a fantastic company.
Strange how they showed up lol. I have been thinking of getting a clear case. Just so i could paint the inside of it. Use some krylon plastic paint and it should look killer. Just not sure how tight the cases are so it doesnt rub the paint off. But tons of possibilities if the paint does hold up well. Could make for some amazing custom cases.

That may be a good idea... If I knew how to draw with anything other than crayons I would give it a shot lol. And ive seen this company pop up in lots of other forums, always in the form of their own company, not faking good reviews or anything. theyre really trying to get some good publicity and give good customer service. He PMed me and is going to send me a free case of my choice, seems legit. Im starting to change my mind about the company, although I did have to jump through hoops in the first place.
So, I'm coming from the MyTouch 4G. I remember in the beginning, HTC was making the phone with screen from Sony and LG. The Sony screens were of higher quality and many people were exchanging them for the ones with the screens made by Sony.
I want to know, is there anything of the sort going on with this phone? Is there any reason right off the bat that I might want to do an exchange for?
Anybody??

Well I don't know about my touch 4g but the nexus one which was HTC had an amoled screen made by Samsung but there was a shortage of amoled screens and Samsung wanted to use them on their phones so HTC had to get screens from I think Sony and from what I remember they weren't as good. Samsung makes the screens for the sgs3. That's not gonna change. Unless there's an actual defect or u just don't like the phone you shouldn't have any issues like that.

No, there are no MAJOR issues with this phone, but that doesn't stop some people from returning it for nitpicky reasons.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of the stupid stuff I can recall people returning their brand new SGS3's for:
Power button is "loose". I don't think it's meant to be a supertight fit; mine wiggles a little too (big deal). Also, if you check out the ifixit teardown, you can see how it fits in there (loosely).
Volume rocker makes "squeeky" noises. Mine doesn't.
In absolute darkness, with the capacitive button lights off too, with the screen on, and showing a black screen, ... you might be able to see a few faint ink spots. oh no!
"MMS isn't working". This is not a hardware problem, but rather than just doing a factory reset to default, and contacting your carrier, this user EXCHANGED the phone instead and got extra free accessories too! derp.
The white version looked a little yellow-ish to some people. Don't what to say to this one, as I haven't seen any pics, and my white is white.
Some people snapped the locking teeth off their back cover, but want to blame it as a manufacturer defect instead of just buying a new cover for $10.
And much more trivial crap that I'm forgetting...
In short: no gaping flaws with this phone.

Yeah well when you spend this much money on a brand new flagship phone that most people keep for 2 years they should be able to return an imperfect device. I for one had a loose power button. Did it work? Sure it did! But 6 months from now I don't feel the need to shell out extra money just because it stop working or fell out or whatever the case may be.
If you don't like your phone your well within your right to exchange it or return it within 30 days. I did the same with my HOX. I love HTC but the HOX just was not the phone for me.
Nit picky? Yes! Is it needed? Yes! Its a high end device. When I spend that type of money Id like it to be as close to perfect as possible. Again the S3 has no "major" flaws but it has some like any device. I still think Samsung did a great job with it's release. Other than the shortage but that's bound to happen.
Again this post isn't meant as a flame so please don not take it as such. It's simply my own personal opinion. And for the fact that ATT/Samsung is willing to change them in great CS in my eys. Not that they have much say if your within your 30 day return period. That's why this period is here to begin with. Because ATT/Samsung can stand behind there device and they are.
Cheers...
PS. Sent from a mobile device...Sorry for any spelling errors!
Some people are having Wi-Fi issues. Maybe it was just a small batch of phones. If you do get the phone definitely test out everything.

Reception and yellow screen tinting. I'm on my 3rd gs3 and still have both issues. I've read the gs2 had similar issues and we're later fixed. I'm thinking the yellow tint is normal. Just everything else we are used to has a blue tint. My Samsung tv setting is on a cooler setting as I don't like warm much.
I'll probably swap one more time and if I still have a yellow screen ill just deal with it

Wow, those are some silly reasons. Yeah, I was looking for something major. That might be known. Like in the example I gave, people were able to go into Terminal Emulator and find out. HTC was trying to brush it under the rug, blah blah blah. I was lucky enough to get the Sony screen.

Thanks for the info.
The new GameKlip™ is here! I started a new thread to keep things organized. Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027611
Hello again everyone! I just launched an accessory for the Galaxy SIII (and other android phones) that you guys might be interested in! I've always loved playing games on my smartphones, but on screen controls were always frustrating. When I discovered the Sixaxis App, and native usb host and controller compatibility with the SIII, I had to figure out a good way to attach my phone to the controller. I came up with the GameKlip™.
I am a university student, and long time xda member. I've been tinkering with this project in my spare time and am now ready to produce them. I hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think!
More information and ordering info available here: http://thegameklip.com/ Starts at $15!!
Update: I shot another quick video showing how strong the GameKlip™ is. Take a look!
Update2: I have replaced the photos of the Galaxy S3 GameKlip™ with a cleaner, more accurate, representation of the final GameKlip™ (still hand cut). Its actually the same one I used in the video above! I have no issues pressing the buttons. The final version has the tabs moved up a little as well to accommodate for the bottom curve on most phones
Update3: I added a lot more information to my website. Check it out!
Update4: I just took some new photos of the production model! Notice the smooth cuts and plenty of room to press all the buttons. I have also updated the first image above.

haha I use it with a battery pack like the Tylt Powerplantl if I'm worried about running the battery dead. Endless gaming! Surprisingly though, I played a couple hours of GTA and still had quite a bit of battery left.
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Unfortunately now it means I'll need an extra battery or 2
Looks awesome. once a video goes up ill probably get one.

I tried Kickstarter, but they rejected the idea unfortunately hopefully I can get the word out there on my own! They're available for pre-order on my site for $15
ordered it, cant wait
Thats funny..cause I think this is a great looking product.
can't say how much I appreciate innovative people...and not just innovative people..but innovative people that take action.
Patent this tech before apple steals it and sues you!!!!!!!!!!
I'm looking at the pictures of this device and I don't see how it is secure? it is just molded hard plastic in the general width of the phone. The plastic touching the phone is smooth. There is no tensioning device to squeeze the sides. i imagine if i put my phone in it and tipped it past level the phone would fall right out. Thats probably why that phone and hand that is "holding it upside down" is cut and pasted out of its original surroundings. I would imagine that it didn't get picked up by Kickstarter because they know it will be the cause of many a broken phone. Sorry to be a downer.

The phone isn't cut and pasted in the balcony picture. I held the phone with one hand and took the picture with the other I used a fill flash to light the controller, which may be throwing you off.
The material itself has a little spring to it and is molded to be just a hair thinner than the phone. The tabs hold it very securely. I can hold mine upside down with my S3 and shake it without anything coming lose or falling off.
I was looking all around for a clip with no success. Even tried to talk a Gamestop worker to give me their display clip! Found this the other day but seems so un elegant. http://imgur.com/a/sRiLs Thought about epoxying a case to the controller, but glad I found the GameKlip before I went that route.
Hey Ryan when do you think you'll start shipping? Good luck brother, I'll be spreading the word.

Thank you! I put 2 to 3 weeks on my website to be safe, but hopefully I'll be able to ship much sooner! And thank you for helping spread the word! I tried posting something over at AndroidCentral and got perma-banned for it. Oh well, xda is better anyway

Ha ha, I just posted it over there in the Accessory section.
Why did kickstarter reject you?
And it looks like it works even with a case on right
Would you be able to make one for the xbox controller?
I just hate using the ps3 controller.
Okay so recently I found myself with the chance to get my hands on a Tab S.
It's used, but only as a kiosk application. Everything surface wise is in perfect condition except for some slight screen burning, but that is barely noticeable, and it seems to work just find.
But I recently saw someone say to avoid display models as they tend to have weak battery life due to being on charger all day.
But I'm not sure if ones used as kiosk applications and display models are the same.
So I just figured I'd ask, should I take the chance and get this tablet? I really want an S, and this is the best chance I've found.

I'm thinking it better be pretty cheap, like about 100.00 or less. It might cost about 60.00 or so to have a shop replace the battery. They can be had on ebay for <20.00 and there are videos on youtube to show you haow to open it and change the battery. It is pretty much EOL for this model...don't think that that's official but it's got to be very close. Keep that in mind.
But...I'm also wondering if these chargers really do damage the battery being on 24/7. Don't they have protection for over charging and they seem to taper the charge rate as the battery gets closer to 100%. I know I've ruined several laptop batteries by leaving them in and on the charger. Aren't these batteries of a different technology?
Buy it cheap, do a full reset and run it and see how it does for a week..
Okay I just stumbled upon another for the same price. Not a display model this time, still used of course, the only thing wrong is it has a crack just under 1 inch long in the bottom corner of the screen.
Would this impact how well it worked? Like would I be better off getting the display model? Or would this one be perfect and the crack would just be something I'd have to get used to being there?

All things equal, I personaly would probably go with the one with the 1" crack. That's according to how prevalent the burn-in is. The burn-in more likely effects a larger portion of the screen.

Hmm, one last quick question, the screen burn ones are listed at 10.1 inch. Is there a 10.1 inch Tab S or did they just mislabel it? Don't wanna end up with a tablet that isn't even the one I want.
I would rather go with the cracked screen, but I messaged them to see if it works, and they responded with it seems to, which isn't that clear. I asked for clarification and they haven't responded yet.
there is tab A 10.1 tab S is 10.5inch
Ignored the two I spoke of and jumped on another that the best one availible on the site. Wasn't sure I'd get it as it was bidding and not buy now, and I've never won anything in my life. But I just did it ten minutes ago, cost 240 but I got it.
Oh and it's not just the tablet. It also comes in box, with the charger, usb cable, manual, a samsung smart cover case. And most important of all, an official Samsung Tab S Keyboard attachment, which considering I'm an author, or want to be one, it'll come in real handy.
Here's a pic of my spoils of war.

Oh, and unlike the other two I'd looked at, this one is 32gb's not 16.
I like success stories! Congrats, hope it works well for you! Looks nice and a decent deal I think.
BTW, I'm not sure...but I think BestBuy was the only one, or one of few, places that sold 32GB versions.
Thank you! It was a real close one. I had bid 250 which didn't change or the final six hours, but I couldn't help but feel a little gittery, been watching all this time, no way was I losing this. So in the last minute, I upped my max bid to 275, and when the auction ended it turned out someone had bid 256, but because of my raise I won for 260. It's just crazy to think how if I hadn't raised it then I would of lost.
And 32GB being rare makes alot of sense. There are very few on ebay, and the cheapest at the time was 269. And all it came with was a generic usb cable, not even the official samsung usb cable.
Wish I could tell everyone how my new tablet is, but the stupid thing isn't here yet. Spent 17 dollars on Priority Mail shipping and it's only moved one state over from where it started in the past 6 days. Priority mail my ass.
