Hate for this to be my first post, but I'm out of Ideas.
I loaded CM RC-1, after the install it could not read my SD card, and like an idiot I let it format it, which nuked my backup. Now I seem to be stuck CM, I can load RC & nightly builds with no problems, but for the life of me I can not go back to Sprint Lover's Image, or any ROM's other than CM's. Any suggestions?

Just redownload whateva rom you would like to use put it on the root of your sd card then go into recovery, full wipe (data, cache and davlick (system, boot [if you are using amon_ra 2.3 if not skip this])) then flash it friend and you are golden.

You need to re-download a rom and place it on your sdcard. Then boot into recovery wipe your factory/data, cache, and dalvik, then flash the from from install zip from sdcard. If you're flashing a gingerbread rom, you need to flash the latest gapps with it.
That's the problem, it will not install anything else. Either get could not find script error when trying to install from multiple different roms.
Tried just running the RRU, but neither HTC sync drivers or hboot drivers can see the phone to run the restore.
Using RA and selecting Flash zip from sdcard does the following
Install : PC36IMG.zip ?
Press power to confirm, or any other key to abort.
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Can't fund update script
Installation aborted.
I'm starting to think it may be some kind of issue with CM and the SD card.
I've downloaded multiple times, and multiple times I've copied the zip from the computer to the phone it's been slow copying.

The PC36IMG needs to be flashed from the bootloader. When you boot there, give it 10 seconds and then apply the update and reboot.

Can you get into recovery? If you can and if it is amon RA, go to the Partition SD Card menu and select Partition SD. Afterwards, select Repair SD:ext. Hit RETURN and then go to the USB-MS toggle menu, but before selecting it, attached your EVO to your computer. opy the rom(s) to the root of your SD card. Also copy a fresh amon RA recovery .img file just in case you need to reflash amon RA from the bootloader screen.
Try to flash the rom you copied over to your SD card and see if you are successful. If you are not, reflash amon RA, preferably, version 2.3.
By the way, there does "appear" to be a growing number of issues involving CM7, SD cards & recovery problems. People are trying diligently to find a solution to those complaints.
Finally got it fixed, the issue seems to be with how CM is formatting & R/Wing to the card. What I had to do was download the Stock-Rooted image via Rom Manager and then flash to RA, boot into RA, and install the image from RA.
Reformatted the SDcard and I just tried transferring files to and from the sdcard, both copy & move. Copies 200megs to and from the card in a flash once again.
Well, glad that you got it fixed.

HI, I have rooted my Desire running stock official Froyo 2.2 and have backed up using nandroid in recovery.
I was trying to install Wake from trackpad/menu zips but clockworkmod does not allow me to flash it. I get the following message
Finding update package....
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/menu-to-wake.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
the sdcard is fine.. Able to create/restore nandroid backups
the files are named xyz.zip and not xyz.zip.zip
I have the signature verification and script errors turned off
The zip file themselves are fine. I can open them from windows and can also extract in windows without any errors
Still i cannot flash the zip while no one else in the thread has reproted any issue in flashing it on their desire. Can someone please help on how to make the clockwork install the zip files??

Hi vpraveenis, I am just curious if you found a resolution for this? I have the same problem, admittedly for a different .zip but the same symptoms. I can flash other zips fine, the zip itself is fine as I can unzip on windows and md5's match, i have toggled the signature verifcation off and run file system checks to make sure my sdcard is ok. Still clockwork can not flash this 1 zip (leedroid) which hundreds of others have flashed fine. I am at my wits end, so if you found a solution to yours, I would be happy to hear it
Did you try to re-download that file again, it may be corrupted.

Yes, apologies I should have mentioned that. I downloaded it 4 different times, and all times the md5 checksums were fine. I even tried different methods of getting the file onto the card, incase there was a level of corruption there. I have used adb push, standard usb mount in windows, taking the card out and using the card reader in my PC, and using andFTP to download it from my ftp server directly to the phone.
I can only think it's a problem with my sd card, so i'm trying a new one now, taking a while to make it a gold card though.

Ok, I went and bought a brand new class 6 16gb lexmark sd card (my unknown class / unknown brand 32gb off ebay was causing me too many hassles anyway). I immediately partitioned it with gparted, then went through the goldcard process. Then dumped clockwork including my nandroid backups and leedroid rom onto there. Reboot into recovery and bam, still get the exact same error, bad zip.
I've also tried full factory wipe before hand. I also get the same error on the latest radio ROM from the leedroid guy's drop box. Not having much luck.
That's weird, Can you flash other zip file? :\
Maybe change to Amora Recovery will help?
Try Amon Ra or check if the ClockWork has "File Integration Verify" option and disable it. It should help. Some custom modifications do not pass through integrity verification at recovery state.
Regards
need some help- while trying to flash new leedroid rom get this message:
writing boot.img
assert failed: write_raw_image ("/tmp/boot.img"."boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/LeeDroid_2.3d_A2SD.zip
(Status 7)

is there a solution?

I couldn't get AmonRa up and running, tried using unrevoked or whatever to flash it on there, but just wouldn't complete. Clockwork is a fair bit easier since you can just copy on a file and name it update.zip and you are done.
In regards to other zips, it seems I can flash any "theme" based zip, just not any RUU zip such as new ROMs or radios. This probably implies my card is not a gold card, but I have been through the gold card process 3 times, all without fail, so I dunno why it wouldn't be one.
I've confirmed that I can flash these files from my 2gb gold card that I originally made. So there is definitely no zip corruption.
Edit: In case others stumble upon this, the solution for me was to scrap the partitions on my SD card and start over. I used the proper sdformatter from the official sdcard site to create a FAT partition using up the entire disk, then used gparted to resize that partition leaving 512mb at the end to fit my ext3 in there. The official sdcard formatter leaves 4mb of unallocated space at the start of the disk, I left this there as I didn't want to mess with it. Once my new partitions were setup, I can again flash ROMS from the sdcard. So although there was a proper FAT32 partition on there previously that seemed to be working fine, for some reason it wasn't.
Hi there i was just bobbing my self lmao because i had the same problem and dint backup or anything and i dint no wat to do, Buy... i found a solution.. I just put a different sdcard in my computer and put the rom on there whih i was trying to install then i placed that in my phone and then tryed and it worked..
I'm a relative newbie at this but I have AMOLED DInc that I rooted about 3 months old. I was trying to flash the CMOD 7 through ROM Manager but after installing and rebooting, it would hang at the splash screen (the HTC white screen). I pulled the battery and then tried to reboot again, same thing. I pulled the battery again and held the vol- with power to get into recovery. I tried to restore the one backup file I had and it just looped back saying no files. I then remembered I had kept a couple of backups on my hard drive. I hooked the phone to the computer but the sd wouldn't mount. I then went into CWM Recovery to mount the USB that way. I was able to pull the SD card up but nothing was on it. I tried copying over my old backups but the message I got was SD card was read only. I then went to format the SD card via the computer and then was able to pull over the files. However, when I go back into CWM Recovery (via the vol- and power), and then to backup/restore, it says there are no files. Anyway to manually flash or install a ROM without having ROM manager and just being able to get into CWM Recovery?
the only way to flash a rom is through CWR don't use rom manager especially for CM7. boot into recovery if you are able and try to restore one of your old backups. if not. mount your sd card to your computer and put whatever rom you wish on the root of your SDcard once done boot into recovery and DO NOT USE rom manager.scroll to factory reset. and reset. then i usually use caulkins format tool i keep a copy on my sdcards root at all times. i do it because apparently it formats the system folder to. then when everything is nice and clean then scroll to apply zip file again then flash the rom( if you want to flash any kernels do that after the rom). then reboot. and crosss your fingers.
No luck...
tried that, downloaded virtuous and incredible roms on my mac. Its weird - they say .zip when they're downloading but then show up as folder on my mac. When I moved them to the sd card and attempted to install zip file from sd card, no zip files would show up - just the folders and subfolders and indvidual files... I then "compressed" the folders to create zip files and tried again but it would attempt to install and then abort installation...
I'm guessing I permanently bricked this guy...
What version of RomManager and CWM are you on/were you running?
ROM Manager offers you a CWM update when you open it to flash an update to the underlying CWM recovery.
When updated, sadly, this is giving people across the community all kinds of trouble when a ROM that doesn't have the 'latest' (according to the developer) scripting techniques in it - as such, much pain is being felt by folk that upgraded to latest CWM and are using ROM Manager to flash.
Once you get your device back working, perhaps flash your CWM version back to something earlier than 3.x - how? Scroll to bottom of menu when in ROM Manager, look for All CWM Recoveries, flash something other than 3.x, like 2.5.1.4.
These ideas are a stretch, but worth a mention/thought:
(prefaced w/ idk much about mac)
Have you tried another SD card?
Did/can you format the SD in the device? I've read mac formatting of SD to FAT32 takes some extra steps if not an additional app on the mac. Can you get to a PC and format the SD on a PC?
fwiw, frequently on PC's, the .zip file extension is not shown ~ is it possible the files on the SD have blah.zip.zip, and are therefore unseen? This is more common that you might think.
All that said, if you can boot device at all, successfully d/l a Virtuous ROM .zip to computer, transfer it to a viable FAT32 formatted SD card, boot into recovery, choose option that says 'select zip file to apply' navigate to the Virtuous zip file, flash it, you may be back in business.
For context, AOSP ROMs (CM7) interact quite a bit w/ the SD card, even during boot - as such, SD issues or wipes or other such things are painful when booting an AOSP ROM when SD is wonky.

So i went to flash a ROM and now it says while flashing that the flash was aborted because the system can't mount the SD card. I'm using the newest CWM and have flashed stuff before. Not sure what to do, it wont let me make backups, restore, or flash anything.

Did you use the Mounts menu to try to manually mount the sd?
Also, Which method did you use to get into CWM?

Ya i went into the menus and manually unmounted and then remounted the SD card but that didn't do anything. I used the typical three finger method to boot into CWM like i always do.
i think
I believe this has something to do with the way in which the SD card is formatted I also cannot mount in to usb storage in CWM i get an E: error
Have you guys tried to "Reboot recovery" from the "Adavnced" menu in CWM, and then try to flash the ROM?
I've had this happen before, it was a formatting problem. The easiest fix I found was to back up SD-card data on your pc, reformat the card from the Android system, then copy your data back over. CWM should be able to mount your card now.
I had a problem with the mount dropping mid flash it was my sd for some reason was chipped I always keep backup files

Just flash another version of CWM and u'r done. I faced this problem after flashing Siyah Kernel v2.3 which includes CWM 5.0, and I tried all the methods online; formatting, error-checking, etc... nothing succeed!
Finally I flashed another kernel (Which includes CWM 4.0) and it worked fine.
Thanks!
Same thing happened to me just now... found this thread.. pushed new CWM in ODIN - Worked like a charm.. Fixed in 2 minutes..
Flashing another CWM (ACS recovery this time...) via Odin did not fix the issue. Going to try the format /sdcard fix and see... argh!
*Edit* aaaand that didn't work either. WTF... I literally just got this phone 2 hours ago... brand new.
delete the .androidsecure folder on your sd that worked for me formatting wont work if you put your files on the same with me because i always copied that folder along too
Hi all
Got an issue that I just cant solve.
I have a desire, rooted, s-on. Was running leedroid 3.3.3, all was working well until couple of days ago when after a reboot all the content on the SD card seemed to disappear. Strange thing was, it could still be read when mounted.
So, after trying a few things I decided to reflash, so wiped cache, data and anything else I could do via recovery.
Copied the leedroid.zip file to my card, renamed update.zip but now when I try to apply it from recovery I get the below error:
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) E: signature verification failed. Installation aborted.
Cant work this out.. people have suggested that I disable verification checking in recovery.. but I dont see that option in the recovery menu I can access?
I wonder if anyone could help me as I am phone-less
many thanks
Assuming you are using clockworkmod recovery, this option should be in "Advanced".

Hey!
When you're flashing a .zip rom use the "install zip from SD card" option, not "apply update .zip". The signature is different, so it wont work.
So just try and wipe cache, data, ext, system, dalvik and battery stats, and then install the zip from the sd without renaming it.
What recovery are you using? I suggest CWM for a clean experience.
Also i suggest to put your sd card in a computer and back-up the contents, than format it again in CWM. At lease fix the permissions.
Check the advanced menu for dalvik wipe, battery stats and fixing permissions.
I hope that helps. If not, write here and we will help you.
Cheers!
thanks for the replies.. i got it working late last night
the problem was that I didn't have the CWM recovery file update.zip on my card.. i had cleared everything and re partitioned the card, so the phone was blank and i only had the rom .zip file
so without the proper update.zip i was unable to get into recovery.
i could not find update.zip anywhere at all for download, but luckily i had an old copy in my dropbox from months ago that i was able to get on my card
then i was able to flash
so.. the lesson i learnt from this issue is always a keep a copy of update.zip
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

hey i'm quite new to this, but i recently rooted my phone via revolutionary and installed clockworkmod i have an htc evo 4g 2.3.3 and i followed the steps to installing a rom i installed kingdom rewind 3d rls2 it was running perfect i enjoyed it alot, so i decided to try another rom to see how it would run(which i didn't like) Now everytime i try to go and install kingdom rewind it says this

is the ROM on the root of the SD card?
Could be a bad download. Try re-downloading the rom and flash again. Are you fully wiping everything? Also, I would recommend using Amon Ra recovery because many people have had problems using clockworkmod.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
okay i'll try amon ra, but i do have a question my mac reformatted my sd card i still have a restore saved on my computer of the oringal 2.3.3 but is there anything i should have on my sd card beside the zip of the rom to install it? like is there a file or something i'm missing for clockworkmod
scottypeterson is right, use RA.
For the new ROM:
Load New ROM to ROOT of SD Card | Format Tool)
Boot into RA recovery
Flash Format tool (Calkulins Format All | VR Superwipe)
-Or just use RA to wipe everything, once or twice)
Flash ROM
Reboot
As for your Backup Rom, if it was created by Clockworkmod, then just load the backup folders to the SD card, and do a restore from within Clockworkmod.
If your gonna start all over you might as well partition your sd card after you download the recovery and get that straight, most of the newer roms will eventually use all of the partitions including the swap partition.Heres the link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386911 ,this link will help with most of your problems.
finally figured it out... my Mac unzips roms when i download them and for whatever reason when i compress it into a zip file it basically puts a file inside of a zip... so the recovery couldn't find all of the files in the zip to start the installation.. such an easy fix thanks everyone who tried to help me!
