'Me' icon in Messaging - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maybe it's just my vanity but is there a way to add a picture to the 'Me' icon in the stock messaging app on CM7?
I've tried adding myself within my contacts (which uses my Google account photo) but nothing seems to sync up.
I can live without it but I'm just curious to see if there's a way to set it up :-D

weird...i did the exact same thing and now i can see my icon. maybe you need to delete the icon on your gmail account and then sync?

Success!
I had to go into Settings > Call Settings > Additional Settings > My Phone Number
Once your number is added into here it does the rest (I'm not sure if you still need to put yourself within the contacts).
I can now breath a sigh of relief and bask in my own narcissism...

Haha glad you figured it out

Go to Settings > About Phone > Status > My Phone Number
You can enter your phone number there. Once you do so, it should display whatever image you have setup for 'me'.
I am running 6.1 at the moment and this fixes the problem but only TEMPORARILY. The phone number does not persist through a reboot so you have to re-enter it everytime. Not sure if this has been fixed in CM7 RC's or not. Check that thread in Android Development.

definitely well known issue with CM6. CM7 recognizes the number and brings it in every time.

I am running CM7 RC1 and my phone number says "Unknown" and it is hard coded. I am unable to edit that. You know of a fix? My "me" icon is blank as well.

Pretty sure I already said this lol.
But fwiw my icon still greys out even though CM7 recognizes my number. It also doesnt recognize a few of my contacts for pulling facebook pictures down.
U told me to go to about phone I can't edit there and check u might have doubles or triples of certain contacts n it won't use the pic jus seek them out and join them or delete the doubles. And if u have a pic set it should use it. I don't like using fb pics cuz its a bunch of ppl I never talk too lol
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yea well I don't have doubles its really weird. Just 3 of my contacts won't pull in pictures and it won't pull in my picture either.
I do use Facebook a bit. I have it set to only sync pictures with existing contacts, not pull in ALL contacts from facebook to my phone. That would be ridiculous.
So when you go to contacts and type the name of the person the pic won't show it only shows one? Cause when I scroll thru contacts it don't show the doubles when I searched them for some reason I had a lot of doubles. And after u went to call settings and added your number and your phone recognized it did u add urself as a contact?

Yea I even checked via gmail through my contacts lists I have no duplicates. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the FaceBook app and logging out/in again.
As far as my picture, I've tried creating a contact card for myself and it doesn't work.

[Q]Pics aren't saving

I have a Desire Z. Everything seems to work well on it but whenever I take a pic with the phone camera it doesn't save to the gallery and then it'll randomly show up weeks to months later. Has anyone had this problem?
Also, When I add a new contact to my phone, it doesn't save it under "people". It's saved in some random area of the phone accessable by searching for the name. Any ideas?

Are you using the stock gallery? If so, I would download QuickPic from the Market as a replacement. The stock gallery has a way of mishandling my media, but QuickPic is near flawless.
With the contacts issue... I have no idea. Are you saving to google - not to phone? How long since you've replaced your SIM card?

I am using the stock picture gallery. I will try DLing quick pic and give that a try.
I'm not sure if it's saving to google not to phone. Is there any way to check that? If I type in a persons name it will show their contact info but if I just go to the people icon and look through the list it won't show them. It's like their hidden contacts.......

You won't be disappointed with QuickPic.
As far as contacts, I'm not really sure where the setting is with regard to saving to google versus phone. It does sound like your contacts are on phone only at this time. If you go to Settings > Accounts > Google is there a box ticked to Sync Contacts? If not, enabled it for sure. I do know that when I "add a contact" I am prompted with the option to save to google (synced) or save to the phone only. Of course, I always choose google.
Perhaps try googling "how to move contacts from phone only to google sync on Android?" Or something like that...
lots say its a bug, appears after GB OTA.
im using quick Pic. solves my problem, faster than stock gallery/sense gallery.

Thanks for your help

T-mobile contacts(check message, check balance, check minutes)

I've been wondering if there is any way to remove these contacts. I would delete them and they would come back to haunt me each time.
Is this related to T-Mobile contacts sync? Do you have it disabled in the system settings?
Even if you uncheck sync they just come back. You have to hit menu in contacts and filter them out

hmmm did you filter yours out by unchecking the "show phone contacts"? i feel like that's the only way to get rid of it, but that means i would have to use google contacts or something right?
Yea. I uncheck everything but google. But those tmobile ones are on the sim so if you uncheck sim they will be gone.

is there any 3rd party app that will allow deletion of these useless numbers on my sim?

problems...

1) seriously hate the "mail" app on the lock window. i cant find a way to remove it and even after i turn notifications off it still shows that i have new mail. i much prefer the gmail app and would rather see it there.
2) i really wish the spen would control the menu and back buttons on the bottom of the phone. when using the spen exclusively it sucks to have to go back and forth to the fingers.

Just turn off the mail app, ie remove your account from it, no more notifications anywere, just leave your gmail app.
You can use gestures with the pen. Press button and draw a ^ for menu and < for back

Menu > Settings > Lock Screen > Screen Lock > Add security and you won't have icons on the lock screen, or there's an option to choose what apps you have at the lock screen.
Sometimes that happens to me, restarting the phone fixes it.
And ya, what kharizma said... works perfectly.
perfect, i adjusted the mail icon to my gmail icon!
unfortunately if i remove the accounts from my mail icons it will take away all my google contacts (i think) so i have not tried this.

Nope gmail contacts are attatched to your google account in the system (settings > accounts) not to your email client account

dont know. using what came with the phone.
I don't see what's the problem with the mail app, I really like the corporate aspect allowing for Microsoft Exchange giving better push email I believe.

[Q] ATT S3- Managing/copy contacts, SIM and phone and display

ATT S3 i747
There are multiple questions in my mind, all related to the same general thing...management of contact storage on phone or SIM, and managing what is displayed when you hit contacts icon.
a. How do (can?) you choose whether SIM contacts or phone contacts are displayed when Contacts is opened? If you cannot select which set will be shown, which ones ARE shown?
My desire is to have ALL of my contacts on the SIM, but I use some of them only infrequently. I would like to have a sub-set of the total set (on the SIM) to show in contacts. My general idea is to have that sub-set in the PHONE storage, and display the PHONE set in Contacts...but be able to switch over to view SIM when needed.
Is the above possible?
If not, how do I achieve the same result--to have contacts display a subset of my total set, but be able to access the total set occasionally?
Thanks.
Try in contacts
Menu > contacts to display > customize
There you can choose which contacts to display.
I wouldn't worry too much about where they are stored. Sim card contacts are imported automatically and the contacts list is synced with Google.

Huh. Are you talking an ATT S3?
Contacts>(contacts tab)>menu drill down on my phone has no such entry as "contacts to display". It has 8 items...
delete
sim management
import/export
merge w samsung acct
merge w google
accounts
speed dial setting
send email
Hmm my bad I should have mention I'm on aosp not touchwiz. Sorry
So, since that help was for a non-touchwiz ROM, I still am looking for answer to the original question if anyone can help. I don't see how to do it--or how to accomplish what I want a different way.
Some AOSP ROMs have Sim Management the same way, but not with as many options...
I don't have aosp. I have stock!

It's still the same... and don't yell at me...
I just fail to see why people keep bringing up AOSP when it helps not a twit answering the question of this thread.
And it is NOT "the same" as the previous "how to" from someone usiong AOSP will not work on my stock phone whatsoever.
Unfortunately the way you would like to do it isn't possible. All contacts will show. But you can create groups, such as Work, Friends, Family, and even manage them easily at www.google.com/contacts
The groups are accessible in your Phonebook...
I use googke contacts....all of my contacts are stored and added to google.if i mess things up..they are restored when I log back into google.

He's inquiring about the organization of the contacts... creating groups would be the easiset way, but still have a full phonebook...
