Get the NoDo Update right now! - Windows Phone 7 General

Hint: Your phone must be unbranded or must have the "000-88" registry hack applied if branded ("registry unbranding"). Be sure you are running the latest version of Zune.
This should work for all retail WP7 devices! You should start this guide from OS version 7008! (This should be automatically installed on a [registry] unbranded phone)
"Force NoDo" (March 2011) WP7 Update Guide:
Solution 1: Using your regular internet connection (Credits go to user Noticed) (Give him a Thanks here)
1. Start Zune.
__________________________________________________
2. Turn off data connection and Wi-Fi on the Phone.
__________________________________________________
3. Connect the Phone to the PC (USB).
__________________________________________________
4. Manually search for an update within Zune. ("Settings" > "Phone" > "Update")
__________________________________________________
Important step 5.:
About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet. (Turn WLAN/Ethernet off)
__________________________________________________
6. The Update shows up!
__________________________________________________
7. Reconnect to the internet and install the update.
__________________________________________________
If it doesn't work try again starting from step 4 and vary the time you disonnect.

Solution 2: Using a VPN dialup connection
1. Download USAIP.pbk from here, then open it and connect to EUROIP PPTP Hungary
with
USERNAME: demo
PASSWORD: demo
(This connection is automatically closed after 7 minutes! Check your firewall, if you have problems to connect!)
(If "Network Connections" doesn't open, apply the registry entry from here and reboot your PC)
and connect your phone to the PC by USB.
__________________________________________________
2. Disable Wi-Fi (WLAN) in your phone, but be shure that airplane mode is off and that in "Settings" > "phone update" both checkboxes are checked.
__________________________________________________
3. Start Zune (if not already started) and keep it running all the time.
__________________________________________________
4. Switch to cellular settings on the phone.
__________________________________________________
5. Manually search for an update within Zune. ("Settings" > "Phone" > "Update")
__________________________________________________
Important step 6.:
After a few seconds (about 10-15 seconds for me, but this could vary from 5 seconds to almost one minute!) disable data connection on the already opened settings tab on your phone.
For the right timing utilize the timing trick mentioned below.
--> The update shows up!
(You can now terminate the connection and download the update using your "normal" internet connection)
If it doesn't work (cognizable by the fact that you get a time out error) retry steps 5 and 6 and vary the time until you manually disable the data connection! (step 6)
Users report this tutorial works with WIFI! So if you aren't successful try to use your phone's WIFI connection instead of your cellular data connection (be sure to set the cellular data connection off this time).
(Thanks goes to vi3txlifv, mikmik111 and kapanak)
A trick to get the right timing (thanks Hardmen):
Get a stopwatch and stop the time until you get the Zune update time out. Subtract 0.5 to 1 seconds and that's the time you have to shut off the data connection.
Here is a nice video demonstrating the whole process. (watch after 3:00min) :
(Thanks goes to windowsphonehacker.com)
NoDo alive...
Please share your experience in the update procedure and participate in the poll!
Enjoy your phone!
Best Regards,
Bonebreaker (a.k.a. ulub81)
Thanks also goes to dawnrazr and xsiriusx!
Even Paul Thurrott uses this method!

Okay.. where is the download?
Edit:
Nevermind. Found it. Thought it was some kind of private file.
I'll try and report

It's [http: //] usaip.eu/en/USAIP.pbk .
Sorry I'm not able to post links at the moment, because of my posting status! :-(

is this for all phones? I have an AT&T Focus (unbranded)

Yes, this works for all phones!

You got this working on a Focus???

Concerns
If you have had phone or carrier specific issues that might be addressed in a carrier update I would urge some caution. There may be some OEM updates in the ATT version that may not be included using this method, I suspect.

No surprises here, didn't work on my Panther.

just be patient.
follow the instructions, i waited longer than 10 seconds.. about 25.. its about timing.. play with it.. it definitely works!!

do i need to debrand my omnia first for this to work?

I tried earlier waiting various different times for data off part, no luck I give up. I rebranded my phone back to Rogers because I don't see them holding back NoDo, they are listed as scheduling on the MS chart. If Telus is starting the 29th hopefully Rogers is too.

OK, as I have a Sprint Touch as well... Here goes...
First go HERE and READ the hell outta it until you have it step by step (BTW use the 2.31 unlocker regardless about the GPS thing)
OK, now that youve read that (happy dance time)
Download the 2.31 Unlocker and a WinMO 6.5 ROM personally I suggest this ONE as it is one I use
And make sure to download the DCD Sprint Carrier cab and copy it to your SD card as you may need this after the flashing is done (will get back to this tasty morsel later)
OK, now you have an Unlocker and a ROM - now what, hmmmm
Use WinRAR and extract both the files into separate folders
Press and hold the Power button+Camera Button and Stylus in the reset hole until the 3 color screen comes up and it says serial, now plug in your cable and it should change to USB
can you taste the rainbow and it is over the land of USB?? great, now go into the Unlocker folder you created and doubleclick on the RomUpdateUtility.exe (going to be called RUU.exe from this point on)
Follow the steps on the desktop monitor (you might get some errors about sleep4.exe - dont worry about it, just keep hitting enter and it will go away after the 4th or so time
At some point the program is going to tell you to disconnect the phone, sounds scarey doesnt it, losing the connection and all - dont be, be a brave little soldier and disconnect it and count to 10, cant do that, get some help in getting there, its really that important LOL once you (or your friend) gets to 10 plug it back in, does it say USB again? good!! happy dance AFTER you hit a key on the keyboard per the on screen directions
its going to eventually reboot, let it and it will be unlocked, let it start up and do its thing, when its done - go ahead and go back into bootloader mode again (remember power+camera+stylus twister move you did earlier, its back to that again) with the cable disconnected and it had better say SERIAL again.. now go ahead and plug in the cable and it should change to USB
Now go into the ROM folder and double click the RUU.exe here ... and follow the directions that come up on the screen...
Once its done and the phone reboots, wait... wait some more.. still keep waiting.. no not yet ... stop touching it.. it wont help pacing.. just be patient... oh look an Orange screen, ok here comes some fun
Follow the drections to go through the setup, dont worry about it being to accurate and all as it is about to be erased anyway... let the autorun happen once windows starts and it will reboot on its own again - yes it really IS a smartphone isnt it LOL
OK, as it is booting up again when there is a black screen - press and hold the red button+green button+stylus in reset hole (known as a Hard reset) until the screen turns gray - follow the directions again (save you some time "press the Enter key" thats the big silver button in the center of the buttons LOL) and when the progress bar moves all the way to the right, press the end key (the green one)
Again, it will restart (told you it was smart) and now go ahead and do the setup and customizations and do them right this time as your hanging onto them this time (sounds weird but if you dont hard reset after flashing it flying monkeys will swoop in and take your phone and your little dog toto too)
OK, now remember that DCD Sprint Carrier Cab, you do, fantastic .. so to the storage card where you copied it to - you didnt forget that step did you??? good I knew my faith in you would pay off, tap on it and run it - it will install all the Sprint goodies to make your life easy, and your sex life better and even improve that certain area of a .. wait sorry wrong channel again.... just go ahead and tap it, run it and reboot
now you have a Sprint 6.5 Custom ROM
Enjoy

Detroit_Doug,
In NFS Fan's v 6.5 ROM, which GPS registry cab should I use for MetroPCS?
Also, is it true that MMS is not supported on this ROM version?
Will this update my radio to the latest version (Radio version 3.42.30) so that GPS is enabled? I was having GPS issues on the latest Sprint stock ROM after flashing to Metro.
awesome, thank you! heheh, flying monkeys.

Yes MMS IS supported on the ROM, but per some steps and depending on your Provider, well that can be the tricky part as they can be a PITA at times
As far as MetroPCS - I really dont know, I personally go to the thread of MFSFANs ROM and do a search through it for MetroPCS (there are a few of you trying to take over the world - I aint skeered though) but there is some info there, I just cant remember every carrier and every issues for every phone - I have my own plans on taking over the world as well you know (are ya skeered???) come on pinky, time to put my plan into action
Detroit Doug
EDIT: Here is the link for MetroPCS - its for the Titan, but ask the person that started the thread - the cab shouldnt matter as it is provisioning data and the like - again ask the posted on the thread, I dont know anything about it - simple search found this as well

If your referring to "what does a carrier cab do" it installs various settings and progs and provisioning data to help you connect to your network for phone, data, internet, GPS, aGPS, etc
As far as finding it - search can be your friend - I dont even know if there is one for USCC or MetroPCS - find whatever carrier is similar/compatible and use it
Detroit Doug
EDIT - amazing a search for USCC Carrier CAB found lots of posts - 5th post through and the preview gave the link you need directly

TMobile US 3.6.390 Upgrade

I just wanted to split this discussion from the leaked ROM thread. From what I have gathered and understand, this newest update is the US equivalent of the Europe 2.51 update. I know many of you have already upgraded your devices to this, so users like me who are late/slow to the game, aren't there yet. In my case I still had the stock 3.6.160 up until last night. I know many have had the concern about 2.51 and not being able to go back. Has US TMobile done us a favor by releasing this OTA update? It would seem to me that this is now a sanctioned update, so anything from here on out would be officially supported and updated. It also seems that if the US and Europe version are the same, any thing that works for 2.51, would work for the US version. Like the 3.4.2 Nandroid backups. It should just be a matter of a simple restore and everything should work, correct? Sorry if I seem a little off. Prior to this device all of mine have been HTC devices which didn't have the locked bootloader. So this concept of of firmware/roms is a little off to me. I haven't had a chance to test any of this yet, I just want to know if the theory is correct. If I'm wrong please point me in the right direction. I'd like to be able to contribute to this forum constructively, especially as I am in charge of deploying DEFYs on our corporate network. The nice part of this is my Director is all for rooting our phones. He looks at in the manner that we need to do what needs to be done. If a phone gets bricked in the process, well we will just buy another. Warranty really isn't a concern.I'd like to get playing on it this weekend, especially with Froyo.

Nope.
The only update for the US DEFY is an incremental one (still 2.1) and it has only been released to 500 or so users according to the offical Tmo forums.
They are testing that one now.
The official froyo for DEFY is probably still a couple/few months away from public release, but let us hope they get it out faster.
More info in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931212
The Incremental has been released to the wild. Both of my Defy's received it OTA. I also know this is not an OS upgrade. Still stuck at 2.1. But my understanding was that the US update changes the boot loader to the same one as the Europe 2.51 update. If this is indeed true it would mean that we should be able to boot any of the 2.2 Roms out there without using the European update. Thats what I'm trying to confirm/Deny.
I registered for the "testing update", and received it this morning. Overall the phone is so much smoother. I'm now using Blur instead of ADW or LP. As a matter of fact all scrolling is smoother. The homescreens, app drawer, lock screen, widgets. Everything. Before the update if I was on Wi-Fi and sent a MMS I would get a delay, and have both icons in the notification bar for Wi-Fi and 3G, but now they send instantly, and I only have the Wi-Fi icon. Battery seems to be lasting longer today too which is one of the included functions. I'm impressed overall with what they did.
I was on of the very first few to get the Official 3.6.360 and while yes some things have improved. I decided to do a wipe after I had installed it. And I notice something interesting. No more root, Z4Root (using 1.3.0 which is what I used the first time I rooted this phone) no longer works, unexpected failure. So yea the have changed something... I run down the ADB route and see what that turns up.
I will have go the ADB route to get back to rootville.

I noticed the same thing. No more root access after the update. I tried to re-root with z4root, super 1 click to no avail. Not familiar with the ADB process. Kinda nervous to be honest. First Android phone and all. Had it 2 weeks. Hopefully a new 1 click method comes from one smarter than I soon.
That's interesting. I noticed right off the bat that Z4Root no longer worked, so I ran Super1click, and that worked fine for me. The only thing I haven't done is wipe the phone, but at this point it doesn't sound like I'm going too.

Did you need to do anything special with Super1click, or was it as simple as z4root? Can you just run it, and wait for it to finish? I mean I read some stuff that you may need to do the "turn debug off, turn it on, turn it off" thing with it because some phones give a "waiting for device". If you did certain steps other than just clicking root can you share? Thanks.
Nope. Just downloaded it, ran as admin and let it do its magic. Short and simple.

How long did it take? I tried it, but it keeps hanging on "waiting for device..."
Mine as well. Just keeps saying waiting. It got further once but stuck in a loop and came back to waiting. I unmount the sd, put it in debug, not sure what usb mode to use or where this admin option is found though. Quite frustrated since the bloatware I froze with Titanium Backup is back and all my root permissions are one. Any help for a newAndroid guy would be awesome.
Make sure when you have it connected to your machine that you are in Portal mode, as well as making sure that your machine is actually picking up the MDB interface. I know with mine it took a couple of plug ins to get it to actually install correctly.

I think your problem might be that you're running it in USB "None" mode (as you would if running ADB). This is a common mistake. With Super1Click, you have to run it in "Portal" mode.
Plug your phone into the computer. You'll get "USB Connection" in your notification bar at the top. Then pull the notification bar down and click "USB connection". Click "Motorola Phone Portal". Then make sure "USB Debugging" is on (in Menu key > Settings > Applications > Development). Now run Super1Click as administrator. Click "Root".
It still takes a while in between steps, especially at the various "Waiting for device" stages. But if you did all the initial steps above, it should work properly. Just BE PATIENT.

Everyone keeps saying 'as administrator'. There is no option in S1C for that. Nor on my phone. How do I execute this as admin? Am I just being dumb?
Edit: Does this mean as computer admin? Like head honcho on the pc?
This is based on the assumption you are using windows 7 or vista. You right click on the program and in the drop down menu select Run as Administrator. It will then open up the program.

Rogers Lumia 900 7.8 Update "how to" Jan 30th

Got this method to work to get the update on Rogers Lumia 900.
I have Windows 8/Zune and the Lumia 900.
1- Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software.. note put the phone in airplane mode
2- Click on Settings/Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is
available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
3- Click the check for update button again, and this time immediately disconnect
your computer from the internet. Do this by pulling the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc. ( I have just disabled the Ethernet adapter) But you should this as soon as the update starts, as your procedure will take some time!!!
4- You should receive a notification that an update is available.
5- Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software.
Just to add to it... it updates to 7.10.8779.8 first. Then redo the steps above to get to 7.10.8783.12 .. and then again to 7.10.8858.136 .. which I believe is 7.8
note.. I got the above information from
http://wmpoweruser.com/windows-phone-7-8-update-now-on-zune-regardless-of-carrier-and-model/
This also seems to work on my HTC Radar, but I haven't finished patching it yet. I will post the instructions on the HTC Radar forum.
What firmware did you end up with?
No matter how many times i try to do this method it just isnt working for me, which leads me to believe the update has not yet been pushed to my area.
Worked for me on ATT, it's all about the timing (took three tries to get it to work). I would recommend using the disable adapter method, as it's much easier to disable quickly.

Upgrade to Official VZW Nougat using Software Upgrade Assistant!

Hi all, I was messing with the Verizon software Upgrade Assistant and managed to upgrade my SM-G930V from 6.0.1 to 7.0. Here are my steps so feel free to give it a try yourself.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if the install fails and your phone is bricked blah blah blah. I also cannot guarantee this will work for everyone.
Let's get started!
1. Plug in Galaxy to computer
2. Pull down notifications and tap USB Charging
3. Select Software installation
4. Find Verizon Mobile in My computer or This PC (It will look like a CD Drive)
5. Run the VZW Software Upgrade Assistant
6. Follow the installation steps on screen
7. Run the upgrade assistant. It will check for an update and download it for you.
8. Change the phone to File Transfer mode the same way as above from the notification menu
9. Click Upgrade! The update files will be sent and your phone will reboot into download mode.
10. Wait as it will take a while. Your phone will reboot to Recovery and install the update now.
11. After another reboot, you will see "Upgrading Android" as it optimizes your apps. This can take a while based on how many you have.
12. You may get a prompt saying some apps must be upgraded. Just follow the onscreen options.
13. You're done! Enjoy android 7.0!
Hope this helped you get the update! Feel free to ask questions. I'm more than happy to help to the best of my abilities. I'm no expert, however.
this is what i had to do on mine......it kept giving me error 402 when I tried to wifi OTA
Thanks OP! The SW update on the S7 Edge I just bought kept stating it was up to date, but it was running Android 6.0. Your steps def solved that issue! One tip was that the VZW SW got hung up forever trying to run some type of update, but the real "VZW Software Upgrade Assistant" that I need to run was hidden down in the systray. I ran that one and all was smooth... didn't even need to open ODIN. lol!
Unlocked?

General Android 12 for everyone :) /RM6,RM6Pro/

Hi guys!
Here's a little trick, if someone might not get the Android 12 OTA update: the update is already on the official website, but for some reason the interface wasn't edited, or I don't know... So, if you rewrite the version number in the download link, the download will start. XD
EU: https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe/NX669J/V510/NX669J-update.zip
North America & Asia: https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe&Asia/NX669J/V610/NX669J-update.zip
I completely reset the phone before that, with Mitool, in EDL mode. Everything works, 5Ghz Wifi, Volte, etc., so far I have not experienced any errors. The interface looks smoother, but that might just be because of the clean phone. I like the new Gamespace much better. If you don't like it or if you find errors, you can use the Mitool-EDL method to revert to any previous version.
The update was pulled from OTA due to bugs - some users experienced boot loops that required full reset (you did that anyhow).
In my case, I've had cellular network issues where it appears the device disconnects from the network when on WiFi - phone calls are no longer received and legacy SMS/MMS won't send/receive until WiFi is disabled or the SIM is toggled off/on.
An update is apparently on its way, but it's been over 3 weeks now.

I did a completely clean update. I completely formatted it, deleted all partitions /even the "persist" by accident, but I managed to restore it, but that's another story/.
Then I reset the phone using the Mitool-EDL method and then updated the clean system to EUCommon-V5.10.
The only mistake is that it lists the battery as 3550 mah instead of 5050 mah.
What you write about not receiving calls on Wi-Fi, etc., also occurred to me on the V3.28 system. If I set the mobile network as preferred in the vowifi settings, the error disappeared. Now I haven't experienced this error, vowifi works normally even in wifi preferred mode.
So far, I have not experienced any errors apart from the incorrect listing of the battery, although I cannot test 5G because it is not yet installed at our place...:/

Sorry, by everyone I meant not only those who are sent OTA. Android 12 has already been released for the 6R in China, so I think it will arrive soon for the 6R as well. :/

I doubt it since it took 7-9 months for the android 12 update to release globally for the RM6 & 6 pro after it came out in china.

I'll describe how I did it, but I can't promise that everything will work the same way for everyone. I don't know if there are hardware differences between each phone because I could only test it with mine /RM6P/. If someone tries it, do it at your own risk!
Be sure to save the "persist" partition before doing anything!!! Also save Qcn, these two are very important!!!
1. Backup partitions:
2. Backup Qcn:
3. /Optional/ Erase ALL:
After backup, I entered the partition manager in qfil, and after right-clicking, I clicked on "erase entire flash". But it's not absolutely necessary, but I definitely wanted a clean install. When I returned from Chinese Android 12 to EU 11 and didn't do this, the first time I started it, the phone setup got stuck in the wizard and wouldn't let me continue. From this I realized that the Mitool-EDL method alone does not completely clean the phone.
If you have completely reformatted the phone with qfil, you will need to restore the "persist" partition and Qcn with qfil after Mitool is finished. If you haven't formatted it completely, you don't need to restore it, but you should still have a backup of them, you never know when you'll need them, believe me!
4. And here is the description of the much talked about Mitool-EDL method:
RM6/6Pro Unbrick Tool - EDL Flash / Switch from CN to EU
Hello guys, I received the following unbrick tool from my supplier in Shenzhen - China and wanted to share it with you since I noticed that many people are desperate to fix their RM6 and swap it to EU. The process is super easy: 1) Download &...
forum.xda-developers.com
5. Update rom:
If you're done with Mitool, you download the ROM you want, copy it to the internal storage and install it with local update in system update!
I did it this way and still found no errors. (Except that it says the battery is 3550mah). I use the EU510.
After Mitool finished, any rom goes up with local update, I tried EU328, UN428, CN810, UN610 and EU510
This method did not require unlocking the bootloader.
According to my theory, I could root with qfil without opening the bootloader, but I haven't tested it yet. If I try it sometime, I will write about my experience.
Two more things:
1: The Firehose file is in the "image" folder of the Mitool pack, it is also needed for Qfil.
2: If someone wants to enter EDL mode from Fastboot after updating to Android 12, the phone will restart immediately. You have to make an Edl cable from a USB data cable, or buy one and use it to enter Edl mode.
It actually seems complicated, but the point is that the black/GND/ and green/data+/ wires have to be touched together while plugging the cable into the phone, and then after a few seconds they have to be separated from each other. The switched-off phone will thus immediately switch to Edl mode.

Bro i got same network problem it's really sad Nubia has to present android 12 like this tho do you know something more
There's a new update on the Nubia download site for the RM6 - this is Android 12:
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
North America - v.6.12
https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe%26Asia/NX669J/V612/NX669J-update.zip
Europe - v.5.12:
https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe/NX669J/V512/NX669J-update.zip
I've installed v.6.12 on my NA RM6 and all is well so far. Cellular issues seem better if not resolved - need more time to confirm.

3.28/4.28 is still the last available version on the official website. The only problem with this trick of rewriting the version number in the download link is that we don't know what was fixed in each version...:/
