Will there be the possibility to tether with my omnia 7 via Bluetooth or wifi hotspot in the foreseeable Future?
I am missing this Feature really, especially with the upcoming tablets this would be really helpful
Maybe with Mango. Wait 8 months or so and you'll see.
(Lol.)

Anyone gotten wireless tether to work over bluetooth? My computer never recognizes it as being a PAN capable device. How can I manually tell windows 7 to connect as PAN to it when Im running tether?
HTC used a somewhat non-standard Bluetooth stack on the Evo. I don't think it supports Bluetooth PAN. You'd probably have better luck under CyanogenMod 6 if you can put up with some of its other missing features or going with wifi tethering.
I just have issues with WiFi tendering too. It seems to disconnect every few minutes. Was hoping Bluetooth would work. Poo. May have to end up paying for pdanet instead (i need access to https sites).

If there is one thing that the EVO has over the E4GT is the superior Infrastructure tethering. Such tethering method allows for more compatibility between tablets and other devices. I know there are ways to change the 'wpa_supplicant' file to recognize Ad-Hoc signals on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but I want to avoid issues with other devices (as most devices don't detect Ad-Hoc connections).
So, I know people have been able to change this tethering signal on the previous Epic and so on, but anyone know how to do it with the E4GT?!
Do you people not care about tethering?!
I don't think its "these people" give it some time. There is obviously something missing in either Wifi Tether or the ROM to support this at the moment.
Hi guys,
As the title suggest , is there an ad-hoc support for the gn?

any answer????
Openen Hotspot with Connectify
-Nokia E51 connects (with and without encryption)
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't even show the hotspot.
adding the network manually is not working either

i tired every app and method available with no luck
i think the solution is to add ad-hoc support
I think the default wpa-supplicant doesn't support adhoc. We need to replace it with one that supports. I don't know if someone has made/fixed it yet. Still waiting for it as well.
Ad.Hoc
did you manage to connect through Ad.Hoc? I cannot find Adhoc in my Galaxy Note!! Can we enable AdHoc on Note?
Also need to use adhoc but my Nexus doesn't detect any...
i will try tonight,as i has my laptop at my GF's house.and wont be there until tonight .
but yha. if nobody has posted til than.
than be sure to watch out for my post
Btw,did any one of you guys try wifi direct?
im kinda unsure what it really does.
Did some search in Google and previous NEXUS had the same problem some users were telling to change wpa_supplicant in /system/bin but I think the one they where providing its not compatible with SGN.
As someone already said, I am not even able to see the an adhoc wifi network with my Galaxy Nexus.
My device is rooted but so far I did not find an easy solution to enable adhoc wifi.
However the same adhoc network works perfectly with an EEEpad transformer, so apparently the wifi client is already modified in the Asus tablet.
Has there been any update to this? Been searching this site and others and it doesn't seem like a wpa-supplicant file that can see Ad-hoc networks has been created yet.
I use Connectify - works pefectly.
Supposedly the 4.0.2 update should bring ad-hoc support.
I'm eagerly awaiting the roll-out... (Should have happened ages ago, but somehow it's taking quite a while to propagate everywhere.)
I suppose you could always go ahead and flash your own ROM, but personally I prefer to wait for the official OTA update.
I'm using a 4.0.3 ROM and before that had stock 4.0.2 and no ad hoc support was/is available. There is Wifi Direct which acts like ad hoc but that only works with other Wifi Direct devices.

Oh, Bother!
I was betting on 4.0.2 to solve this, but as you say, it appears that it's only the wifi-direct that frequently gets billed as 'ad-hoc-like' connection.
Is there any other way to enable ad-hoc connections?
Apparently on other devices there exist modified wpa_supplicant files that enable ad-hoc, but so far I haven't seen anything for the GN.

Unfortunately I'm running XP (yeah I know ) here at the office so Connectify won't work - no access point connections on XP.
any possible solution?
Use bluetooth to connect to your computer and share your internet connection with your phone.
I've tried it on windows xp.

Unfortunately no bluetooth on my laptop either...double yeah I know ;-) It really is a POS!
I found the application Wifi Ad Hoc Enabler on the market, it require Root and it works grate for me, now i can see and connect to any ad hoc connection.
I keep seeing some people saying that native bluetooth tethering works and then others saying it doesn't. So for those that it does work for, I'd like to know what your setup is. On my Gnexus it worked tethering to my Nexus 7 for about a week, then suddenly stopped working. However the wifi tethering works just fine. Bluetooth tethering will work through the pdanet & foxfi method although this causes my nexus 7 to run at full power all the time making for insane battery drain.
So please, any input into this matter would be appreciated. I do not want to have to use the pdanet & foxfi method. The native bluetooth tether works much nicer.
I am capable to send files between the devices via bluetooth as well, but not tether anymore. It was working up until couple weeks ago, and now, it won't. I have seen people on the same rom and kernel have the functionality work just fine.
Not one person has an opinion?
Good afternoon,
(Before we begin, I have searched the forum (and the Googles) and found no answers. While this doesn't mean I'm perfect at searching, if anyone can find this quickly, I'd still appreciate being pointed in the right direction. And all snarky comments will be accepted with a grimace and some self-deprecating humor at my expense).
Does anyone know a work around or a way to enable bluetooth tethering on SM-N975U from ATT? We have the unlimted elite plan with 30 GB hotspots enabled on each of our 6 lines, but for some reason ATT decided to neuter how I choose to connect my hotspots. I called and complained, got bumped up to tier 3 support and no one feels like helping. You would think paying $450 a month for service and phones would warrant at least a solution but no, they said suck it.
I have an android auto radio in my truck and I just want to get into the car, and drive, not have to stop, pull out my phone, turn on the hotspot and wait. Is that so [email protected] much to ask ATT???
Anyways, anyone have a solution for this besides using an NFC tag stuck somewhere in my truck, buying a new phone or getting a dedicated hotspot?
Thanks!!
Chad
You mean wifi tethering? That's how you tether it to other phones and computers.
You need a password from AT&T to set it up.
Pretty straight forward even with older laptops and phones.
Once done it works pretty well.

Not quite, bluetooth tethering is an android feature where when your device connects via bluetooth to certain devices it enables the mobile hotspot on your phone. ATT has removed that option from the mobile hotspot function on our devices. I can still use my Note as a hotspot for my car's head unit, but i have to open the phone and turn mobile hotspot on in order to connect.
It's just an inconvenience, but it doesn't make any sense because I'm already paying for the feature (Mobile Hotspot). Why are they limiting on how I turn the [email protected] thing on???

"Tether by Bluetooth
1. Pair your phone with the other device.
2. Set up the other device's network connection with Bluetooth.
3. On your phone, swipe down from the top of the screen.
4. Touch and hold Hotspot Wi-Fi hotspot.
5. Turn on Bluetooth tethering."
This isn't supported on ATT's version of the Note 10 Plus

Stupid Q, why use it if you can tether using wifi?
Isn't it less secure than wifi?
On my 10+ running on unpatched Pie it certainly is.
It's just called Bluetooth Tethering. You're still tethering through Mobile Hotspot (wifi). It just sees you're connected by Bluetooth to a device you allow to use your mobile hotspot and starts the hotspot automatcially.

Once you set up wifi tethering it will do the same thing once the device gets in range as long as you leave wifi and the tether enabled.
Yes but the mobile hotspot times out after you're away from the device for so long. That's the beauty of the Bluetooth tether because bt is on all the time.

Mine would reaquire within a few seconds unless I powered down one or turned off wifi.
That said AT&T is a pain, but the other major carriers are worse in many respects.
AT&T actually gives better tech support than their partner, Samsung. Scary.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I'm trying to enable my mobile hotspot automatically when my Note 10+ connects by bluetooth to my truck's android head unit. This way the head unit will have wifi access through my phones mobile hotspot. Bluetooth tethering is how Android accomplishes this but ATT has neutered our UI to remove this feature even though I pay for mobilie hotspot on my account.
Thanks!
I don't use this but can't you get the phone to recognize the truck unit and directly bt link to it?
