ps: m pretty new to this forum ..xda and all the custom rom and stuff...total newbie.
Sounds very much like you have a dodgy sd card. What brand is it and where did you buy it from?
And what else have you done to the card? (eg. partitioning it )

Hello,
friend got her hands on a htc desire. She let some small shop unlock it before really testing it. Now we got the following problem:
The SD Card doesnt work. At first everything seemed to work okay. She took 52 pictures, even installed on app on the sd card. Then it basically froze.
We can delete half of the pictures and make some new ones. After the phone is rebooted all pictures are gone. Apps cannot be installed on the sd card.
If I remove the sd card and put it in my Nexus One everything works fine. New pictures survive the reboot, old ones get deleted.
When she puts the sd card in her desire, everything is back to 52 pictures and 1 app on it.
You cannot copy stuff like update.zip on the sd card, because the phone will only notice 52 pictures on it... Rom Manager has a "fix" option which doesnt work and partition it didnt help it - if it did anything at all.
We even bought a new 8 gb one, same problem. Some other people reported the same problem in forums, but there is never an answers what did fix it.
Its S-OFF with AlphaRev.
Sadly we both have no idea how to fix it and no android development skills. My plan would be to go back to RUU to see if the problem is still there. If yes, just get a new one from HTC. If no, unlock it again.
Sadly when it comes to roms and the "simple guides" we fail to reproduce even the first steps. "Go to fastboot and enter command XYZ" - yet we cannot enter any commands there.
Any help is welcome.
Can you connect your phone to pc in adb mode? Or simpler: what happened when you are connecting your phone to pc? Does it ask about mass storage mount? Is it in debug mode? If not, I think that it is classical USB-Brick, else... I don't know what is wrong...
I had also a problem with my sd-card.
Put it in a card reader and make checkdisk with windows solved my problem.
Weird, my answer disappeared.
When we connect it to a pc, we can delete files, format it, run scandisk, copy stuff on it. Everything works fine. When we put it back into the phone, the old 52 pictures and nothing else is on it.
And I thought I was the only one…
My problem is as follows, I had with my 1st Desire a 8gig Class 4 Transcend SD card which was perfect and connecting to and from my home and work pc was effortless.
Then my Motherboard burnt out on that phone sent it back and when I got the new one I put my 4gig Class 2 SD which I got with the phone back in and no issues.
A few days later I bought a new 8gig Kingston Class 4 SD ( I lost my Transcend SD card) and after 2 days I would get “SD mounted as read only” so formatted the SD copied my data back to my 8gig Kingston card which worked fine on my PC but the same problem persisted when I put it back in my phone. I was using ADW launcher and kept getting the same errors all the time, then I switched to Launcher Pro and since then I have had no SD card problems.
Also when I was using standard HTC sense I also never had a problem, I hope this is of some help.
I rooted my htc desire using Unrevok 3 and also tried to partition sd by mini tool home version . unfortunately after partition i cannot access or recognize sd in my desire.
Still not making any progress, ..
Hi, I seem to be having an odd problem with my Desire, I'm running a Stock Desire on T-Mobile UK, using the SD card that came with the phone, I had no problems until yesterday when the phone reported that no SD card was in it, it is acting as if no card is in it at all when using the Samsung card that came with it. First thing I tried was to put the Micro SD card in my Laptop, it worked, could read the files, so I was worried that the card reader on the phone had gone, they I found an old Nokia 512 MB card and tried that in the desire, it worked fine, no problems, so I'm not quiet sure what to do from here.
I was thinking backup the micro SD that came with the phone, format it in windows, and then see if it works, one question, what would be the best way to back it up?, are there hidden files that require extra software rather than just dragging and dropping in windows?
If not then I will buy a new SD and hope that works.
Thanks for any help
PS. I don't know if this is in the wrong section, so sorry if it is.
Since it can't read the card anymore, you can't backup apps. Format it with Android, or use SDFormatter.

No, you can select and move or whatever you want.
Heya,
I just received my repaired HTC Desire Z and seems they reset it and removed (and stole -.-) my SD card.
Now until I have a new SD card, I already wanted to try and root it again. But is that possible without one? Guides say that I need one with enough capacity but can't I use my internal space with 1GB?

(Evil people.) No u can't, u don't have access to this memory, even when u connect the phone to ur computer, u will not get any popup. When u will try to push something into the phone though ADB, it will say something about sdcard not mounted.

Yes You need an SD card, it's the only area of memory that you can store files to be flashed/restored/backedup/etc as rooting/flashing etc is going to wipe that internal memory anyways depending on which action.
Did you least notify them that they did not provide back an SD card?
But yea you'll need to get a new SD card for you to do anything recovery/rooting/etc wise.
Well I'm quite sure that I won't get my SD card back since it was the HTC repair center and I guess it is a standard procedure to remove SIM card and sd card before resetting anything. I was warned by the shop with the sim card but guess he forgot to tell me about the sd card. Gonna try it but well...
Anyways, can I borrow an sd card from a friend, root my smartphone and give it back afterwards? Or are the files on the card required?
Nope you can use the borrowed sdcard and then not use an sd until you get one. Any files put on that sd are not of use for the most part after root. You can save them to your pc and download them to your sd when you get it if you'd like but you'll be fine with out them as well

Great thanks for the quick reply
I have started having sd cards issues recently... (like 1 month now)..
1) i sometimes get usb brick according to 4ext ... when i boot in recovery, it says sd card can't be mounted and i need to use the usb unbrick tool (never had such issue with cwm.. maybe it's 4ext related).. often get this when i have copied big files to my sd card or i have just flashed a new rom or sometimes without doing anything special... maybe after a black screen of death)
2) when i copy files to my sd card, it sometimes takes a lot of time (at some point, progress bar remains static) or sometimes i get an error IO device error... need to unmount and remount to my pc.... and windows asking me to scan and fix
3) i often get scan and fix when connecting my htc desire to my pc...
4) i sometimes gets black screen of death and this most of the time results in "scan and fix" message by windows when i connect it to pc..
is my sd card getting old and not working well as i used too much a2sd based scripts? or is my phone sd card reader getting defective (hope it's the first one as i am getting a new class 10 card anyway soon)
how will know what is wrong? are the a2sd scripts damaging my sd card? thx for reading and waiting for your opinions and help thx
How did you partition your sd-card?
i used one of the tutorial on xda... (the one using gparted) and i have been using this partitioned sd card for about 2 years now with no major issues... it's recently that it started to show issues.
Try repartitioning it. If it's still faulty, then change it.
ok thx will try that... but how to know whether it's my htc desire sd reader which is faulty or it's the sd card?

Try using another card afterwards. If it's the same, then it's a reader fault.
haven't try repartitioning my sd card yet.. i have too much stuff to backup.. anyway is there a cause for usb brick/io errors? i got a usb brick today.. can't copy files and 4ext recovery can't mount sd card... i never got that before
Yo Bro,
Need your help. So just yesterday night i downloaded a music from an apps.
all of sudden the memory card just removed ( in-terms of unmounted itself) where i didn't physically remove it by myself.
I experienced this problem before and found a solution to recover but i just cant find that link back
So , I was hoping you guys could help me out a little hope for me to recover them.
The SD Card run as 8gb itself.
Things i've tried;
1)Factory Reset
2)Physically remove the sd card by myself and insert back in
3)Restarted the smartphone right after the problem occur
4)Reset my battery
5)Trying to get into my PC by using Disk Drive mode but doesn't shown at HTC screen.
From what i think;
I dont think my memory card have any problem so far or maybe memory full because of it ?
btw , will 16GB memory card compatible with HTC Desire HD ?

1.Try wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery. Sometime my old DHD sdcard have same problem.
2. Yes, 16GB memory card compatible with DHD. My sdcard is Sandisk Extreme Pro 32 GB. And it run perfect.:fingers-crossed:
Hey guys.
I have an issue with the SD card as well. Actually, the phone doesn't detect SDcard at all, even in recovery.
I've tried mounting USB storage in 4ext, can't do that, can't partition it, format it, anything. The SD card works ok in card reader and camera, so I guess it's an issue in the phone?
This happened after I opened my phone to clean it out. It isn't the first time I'm doing this, but nothing ever went wrong.
It's confusing to me, because I didn't even touch anything around the SD card slot, just removed the back panel, cleaned the upper part of the phone where the speaker is and that's it, I didn't even take the entire motherboard out, no need for that.
Does anyone have any clue how could I fix this?
To be sure, check in memory card reader.
SD-cards don't have unlimited lifetime, but this is too soon tho.
