From the picture, looks the the right angle connector would be down, so this would be better when you hold your phone while charging.

How True....
Pros: IF you use this angle-end cable for your cell phone charging, you never have to squint at a straight-ended teensy microUSB to figure out which way to insert it into the jack. 100% correct each time instead of 50/50 chance. Other that that, it's just a cable... and slightly more flexible than most stock phone charging cables

Yeah, what i said. LOL I guess it's the same. The cord will come from the bottom up to the right angle and into the phone. Better that the stock cable going str8 in, which is a pain to hold the phone while it's charging.
Ah, I see what you did there.
You are speaking of the direction coming to microUSB port, not leaving.
Damn... they are now SOLD OUT!! that was fast.

Right, but you can get it iboth ways. They sell "left angle" ones and I believe this is the one that has the correct orientation on the micro USB plug so the cable doesn't go up towards the top of the phone but instead down. Kind of like if the connecter plugged in to the bottom of the phone.

If you get the StarTech brand, just match up the product numbers. If you want the cable towards the bottom of the phone, get the Left Angle cables.
1' Product Number: UUSBHAUB1LA
3' Product Number: UUSBHAUB3LA
6' Product Number: UUSBHAUB6LA
I have both the 1' and 3' cables from them, both of which go towards the bottom of the phone. Here is a picture of it plugged in.
If you want the cables to go the other direction, get the Right Angle version. The product numbers are the same, except the L gets replaced with an R.

Okay I have been looking since before launch and havent found anything that came close to what I wanted until now. I purchased the SlipGrip from ebay and I love it. I got the one that said it was for the platnium case and it works great with my innocaseII. The mount is sturdy, the swivel is very adjustable and the thing mounted just right so that I can use AR apps like Layer and it offers a nice typing surface right next to where my hand is on the wheel

You mentioned that you can use layar with the mount, does that mean one of the holes in the back match up to the camera on the phone?
Oh and another thing, would you mind taking a picture of the back of the mount where it meets up with the stem? I'm trying to find mounts that i can rig up to fit the mounting plate and ball joint that proclip uses.
Yes the hole matches the camera ...and the ball joint is removable...upload a pic in a few...if you find a way to convert this to a hard mount that would kick ass....I'm thinking that may be workable....

Just ordered one. This is almost exactly what I'm looking for! I like how you can remove the mount from the arm, but still keep the pivot.
I'm still loving this holder...did think of two things though.
The mold and injection process they are using is cheap, do I think it will break ...no, but its not pretty if you look real close. There are no magnets so there is no car dock mode...but I'm gonna play around with that...should be easy to hack together.

If you've got the car home app (i'm not sure if stock OTA froyo has it as i'm on CM6) and you're using it with car bluetooth, instead of modifying a cable you can use an automatic profile app like locale and set it to turn on car mode when its plugged in and connected to your car's bluetooth (the activation rule can be set for particular bluetooth devices)

Interesting, thanks! I read somewhere that it didn't let you do that. So now I have to figure out if it's worth the effort in grounding the pin versus putting the app on a home screen and clicking it when I get in the car.

The standard dock is a waste of money IMHO. There is no micro usb connection to the computer so you have to unplug the power cord if you want to charge while uploading files.

What garbage. The portfolio case will offer none to little protection, plus it will scratch up the unit with use. The dock is silly, no connections to the computer and places the unit at a very inconvenient angle. I'm not a happy camper. I'm going to check into the return of them.

Yeah I noticed that and decided not to buy. We need a third party dock that allows adjusting the viewing angle and a portfolio case that is not cheap and will allow access to the available ports and power button.
That Portfolio case scratched up my xoom! Grrrrr!!! I am warning everyone I know about that damn case!!
I just bought the black silicone gel case from the verizon store. They showed me the portfolio case, but it just looked soooo awkward and poorly made. The silicone case barely adds any thickness at all and looks quite nice. Since the glass on the front is good, I think i'm good to go with just this case. Also, it says on the box that it is compatible with the docks in case anyone was wondering. $29.99 was a little high in. Y opinion, but at this point it is the only viable case and I'm getting paranoid about my Xoom getting damaged.

Yeah, that one was a little perplexing. Theres a damn micro usb on the dock itself, but none to output to a pc... wtf
Best I can figure, they're using the microusb tip to add stability to the device when in the dock and that there probably isnt anything on the backside of the tip. Maybe somebody will crack one of these things open to see what the deal is...
All in all, I saw it as a slightly more expensive way to get another wall charger.
Does the OCNNSB25 coupon code not applicable to the Xoom accessories? I tried purchasing the the silicone case and hd dock, but the coupon code wouldn't go through. Any suggestions?

That is indeed disappointing. I was expecting at least a usb connection - that way there'd be some hope of debugging from a docked device.
Really. See how far $50 goes now. I only paid $30 for my X's dock which has usb (for charging, but not limited to) and hdmi. I thought that was too high for what it is really.
The cheaper dock, while handy, is not good for debugging at all. I'll use wireless adb for a while, but it shouldn't be this hard.

I wouldn't recommend the dock as a stand-in dock, where you plug it in on the go, or quickly. The phone is only supported by the actual USB plug! So I'd be REALLY worried about the port getting loose over time, so I'd skip that. I had that happen to my SGSII. But on the other hand, you can lay it down and it was made for this, too! So there is no need to worry about the usb plug getting loose. I really like it for this. Just look at the last 2 pictures.
I hope you like it! It's a decent dock, I guess. It's more of a stand now. Haha.

Am tempted by this dock... but don't understand what you're saying here. I mean... in the images it looks like there's a rear-support for the phone to lean against. Do you have to faff with this or something, or does it remain up, so you can just drop the phone on and have it lean?
Alternatively, does anybody have suggestions for docks that work with cases? I got the iGadgitz case (link), which I'm totally pleased with... it doesn't turn your pockets inside-out when pulling it out.

Tap it to the right or to the left, and it'll put some kind of strain on the phone's port. That's what I don't like. I have a dock that DOES support the sides, and still ended up busting the port. I don't use the inbuilt charging feature. I just put it in the landscape orientation and use a normal microusb, and that also allows me to grab my phone while I'm waking up in the morning and unplug it correctly.

Ah, gotya. Yeah, my Streak sits in landscape, with a fat connector, so never realised the difference with the Note and a tiny connection.
And bugger... your port has already been wrecked? So it's a real issue. Bah.
Mmm... not exactly swamped with options that allow for cases though, but don't think I can risk it since I've gotta stick with this baby for 23.75 months yet
That said, this thing does last an entire day, unlike my Streak... so maybe I'll just get a spider-holder or something without charge/usb.
I use the dock daily. I just don't use the built in charger. I turn it on its side and use the regular charger. I think the angle's great.
But this does make me miss the blackberry dock. Blackberry's have metal connectors ONLY for docks that will never mess with any ports . Fantastic idea in my opinion. Oh well. This is a monster of a phone! hehe. Sold my 9900 for it
Awesome.
Thanks for the info, I've gone a head and ordered one.
I guess it'll be safe on my desk, as the odds on knocking it are near zero. As an alarm clock though, I totally get you... I'd wreck it in a single day.
Ah, charging all day at work... I'll probably save a million* in electric bills.
*Ok, maybe $0.01 per month, lol.
Weekend project. Rip apart my WCP-700 Qi charger, remove the guts, and then integrate it all into the ash tray of my car. Here's how it turned out.

This is the 12v to 19v converter I used. Ordered a cheap cigarette lighter adapter from amazon to do the conversion. The WCP-700 needs a 19v (?) 500ma power source. The one I found output 19v, 1.5A.
Almost finished product, it all works with the exception of the cover.
Video of the final product! Wanted to keep the ash tray door and the 12v power source, I think I did pretty well.

You mentioned an issue with the N4. Was this position based, or do you think it's a power/signal issue?

1. I used the LG WCP-700
2. I think it's a little bit of both. The way the transmit coil sits in the ash tray, it ends up being a little crooked. I think the glass back on the N4 is just think enough to prevent it from working correctly. The coil I bought for my S3 is a tiny bit offset as it is, plus it only has a super thin plastic back to go through.

Used this one off of Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004J0Y87S/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
Note, the plug is too large. I soldered all the connections so I wasn't interested in matching up the plugs anyway. The stock plug on the LG looks to be about 3mm OD, center positive.
Looks good, I'm not sure about having to press the phone down in there like that, I think that would scratch the sides at some point?
Other than that, pretty awesome. I liked my wireless charging mod, but I finally stopped using it because I wanted a protective case.
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 Tapatalk 2
Here is my simple question.
Did you try running the Qi charger with a 12v input before doing your stepup to 19v?
I have read at least two people who claim that even though the input is rated at 19v it will work with 12v.
It makes sense to me that 12v would work since the output is only 5v anyhow.
I know your setup is all need already but can you or anyone else confirm if that is true or not?
Really quite interested in a mod like this but I don't really like the idea of stepping 12v up to 19v back down to 5v if I don't have to.
And I would also rather not spend the extra $12 if I don't have to.
Thanks!

As a former Moto 360 user, I'm pretty happy with the Huawei watch but the charging experience is horrible. The Qi charger of the Moto 360 works as the dock and it makes charging effortless.
Enough with the whining, let's fix it. This dock that I bought for around $8 is designed for the Apple Watch and the iPhone 6 Plus. No big deal. The wood is soft and easy to work with.

First, for the watch:
-Make the hole bigger for the Huawei magnetic charger.
-The charger has to sit tightly inside the hole, doesn't come out with the watch but still easy to remove. I don't want to buy another charger.
Before:
After 10 minutes with the rotary tool:
It's much easy to dock the watch now. I found out that once I drop the watch on the charger, just press the screen by 9 o'clock. It will make the pogo pins align with the contacts on the bottom of the watch. Tried it a few time and it worked every time. :good:
Next, I want to make the USB-C connector permanently attach to the bottom of the dock so I can dock my Nexus 6P. It looks like this from the bottom of the dock:
To be continue...
Well done!
